Jacking holes.............I had no idea but it works. I have a small vibratory tumbler for rocks. I made a bigger one for bigger rocks but I am still developing it. The set screw plugs is a great idea. It is always good to see you. It is a good thing that you bought two. I hope the bottom one comes out easy. Stay warm!!!!!
Great video, Josh. There are few things more satisfying than bringing a tired old machine back up to snuff. Now, if I could do the same with my 74 yr. old body.
Drilling and tapping the jackscrew holes is a great idea. Instead of grubscrews i would use normal hexscrews. In wet/moist conditons grubscrew holes rot out or get filled with grime. 😊
06:59 - "this will come of real easy" 13:11 - "that came out a lot harder than I thought it would" Mr. Topper, please stop jinxing yourself, you deserve better.
It sure sounds 90% better in the video. Glad you were able to find NOS ones. They're probably better than what the new ones are. I know I sound like an old fart (and I am) but it sure seems like everything is built cheaper and cost twice as much as 5 years ago. I don't even trust the legacy OEM brands anymore!
Just a comment/observation here. The three holes used for jack bolts would lend themselves to attaching a 3 lobed flat puller with a blunt pusher bolt in the center (like a steering wheel puller). Operating the single pusher bolt against the shaft would separate the bearing assembly from the shaft with less tedium than sequentially tightening 3 jack bolts. Having used pullers like that in my 52 plus year career as a mechanic, that sort of just popped up naturally when I saw the arrangement of your machine. Nothing wrong about how you did it, but an alternative method came to my mind watching you chase after those 3 jack bolts. 🙂
Good video! A lot of people don't realize the maintenance that needs to go into machines, to keep them running nicely! I think that's the first time you left out the 'Get in your shop, and do it right the first time' ending. No worry... I said it to myself as the video closed! HAHA!
The volume change with recording vs being in person suggests that it might be a good idea to test bearings using a camera, sometimes. Which is wild, as an idea; if you said recording it on film would make it easier to see what was broken without taking the top off, I'd say you were nuts. ;-]
Hi Josh, my only complaint was not only did you drill and tap for jacking screws you even fitted grub screws to keep the thread clean so I didn't have anything to comment on for engagement 😂
I remember when you bought that right before HGR went out of business. But they started up again as HGR24 I have had good luck buying things from them.
@blitzkrueg07 I was happy with the transaction. The salesman was a little bit of an A$$, but whatever. Overall I'm happy, you always take a gamble on used stuff.
Hi Josh , I got my 4 jars of honey yesterday , and just ordered 2 bottles of Anchor Lube from you . This video was very informative . I like how you explained the clean hands . Don't want to end up with a grease monkey after going to the bathroom ! 😁 In a pinch , when I've had to go real bad , I would use my shirt as a go between to keep the monkey clean . You'll find as you get older , that you can't hold it as good , and comes upon you real quick , especially in colder weather . Take care , Jimmy
Very good idea of putting set screws in the jacking holes, I would’ve notched the shaft with an angle grinder simply because the mark could’ve gotten erased, all in all good job.
I stopped marking things like that with a paint pen because of it can come off, I used the hashmark out of my number stamping set to put a mark if I can. Not saying what you are doing is wrong because you have to take each case by case. Sometimes you can’t put a hard mark on something.
@ keep up the good work. I don’t like telling someone how to do things because watching a video you can’t see everything going on that why you have to look at it job by job. I had people tell me to mark something but the customer did not want any visible marks. Just keep the video coming.
That's the difference between a machinst, and how a part thrower would do it, no impact wrench set to max torque. As good as, or better than built, though the OEM looks like a high end engineering company. Happy rumbling.
Mr. Josh, greetings from a very cold oldest town in Texas, Nacogdoches. Hope you’re keeping warm and busy. The low was 24 degrees here and sunny with a high in the mid 50s. Another great video.
@user-oi8tg3dq7t we still don't have any snow. It was completely gone 2 days ago. We got a couple inches yesterday, but no base to use the blower. Looks like it's working great again this year.
@MikeB0001 these bearings are sealed, once the seal gets pushed out by the grease, it's game over. One pump every 25 hours of run time is more than enough. Most people pump until it comes out, that is wrong for these.

Good repair Josh.
Nice score on the New old stock bearings.
Thats a nice machine. 👍
Good idea to put set screws in the threaded holes. Not many would have thought of that.

Right on!

I was thinking that. I may swap them out yet.
i love fixing old machines making them run like new ,most the old machines are well built and will run for more than a life time if maintained.

Lol. Yeah, that was my bad.
Enjoy your videos and the no nonsense approach. I will say I'm immature at times and you had me laughing through the whole video.
Lol. It was the jacking, wasn't it.
Another nice video Josh. Look forward to the next one!
More to come!

Yeah, it's hard to find quality these days.

I hadn't considered that. I don't even own one. Just never saw a good use for one as they are so flimsy. I usually make what I need

Considering how my shop is going under, I feel I don't deserve to say that anymore. 😪
Nice work that was a good idea putting those holes in. I work in a machine shop for Pitney Bowes and we had one of those and it was loud
With new bearings, it is very quiet.

I couldn't believe it either. Absolutely shocked at the sound during editing.
When ya sped the video up, it reminded me of the 6 million dollar man
@@davidaarons2488 I'm only the $6.00 man. That's my entire retirement savings. Lol.

Lol. Finally, I am ahead of someone's comments. But you know I should have used short bolts, because the set screws holes will fill up. Lol
@TopperMachineLLC LOL, but grub screws look neater even if they are covered up

@@TopperMachineLLC the old equipment is built better and most times just needs cleaning and a few bearings. Such as your case. Have a great weekend.

Glad you got them. Just saw the order come through. Thank you. The shirt idea is great.
very nice repair!

I didn't want permanent marks, as changing the location of the counterweight, changes the vibe.
Do you think you can rebuild those bearings now that you have one of them out?
I plan to take one apart and just see. I've never opened a spherical roller before. So, curiosity is getting me.
Thanks for sharing

Since the location of this counterweight is meant to be changed, I chose not to permanently mark it. I usually do punch marks on most stuff.

Good repair Josh, I've got hundreds of new old stock Timken bearings on the shelf all sizes shoot me the numbers if ya ever need some hard to find..
Hope the pin jaws turn into a profitable income stream!
Me too.
hahaha. Anchorlube now available from your store!!
Whats so funny about that? It's a great product.
wait they are not supposed to be that loud? ours at my old job was twice as loud & we all just thought it was normal. The more you know lol
Yup, it is actually very quiet. You can stand next to it and have a conversation.
Thanks

The snow blower is doing its job keeping the snow away.
@user-oi8tg3dq7t doing it well too.
Come on Josh- get your 3/8 extension so you are not working in a hole.
The difference between a mechanic and a doctor mechanic washes his hands before it uses a restroom a doctor after he uses the restroom
Lol. Yup.
What is so special about that bearing? You will keep this machine greased i bet.😊
Double row spherical bearing. Based on the amount of grease on this thing, it was over greased.
Cant over grease them...@@TopperMachineLLC
Could you not buy the bearing and make the insert?
