Green sky is caused by the reflection of hundreds of thousand pieces of hail in the hail core. Many times when there is extremely large hail, that means that there is a significant updraft in a very intense storm system.... Which in turn, when coupled with strong in flow, that updraft gets stronger, and cross winds cause the storm to rotate faster and faster. Ultimately creating a tornado. So, tornados and green skies (caused by dense hail cores) have connections but are not directly related to each other.
Hail shafts reflect as a white color in a storm. Green color is usually thought to be from extremely high moisture content in the storm. You can often see a green sky without large hail or tornado.
Everyone here is wrong. Hail reflects blue spectrum. Tornadoes usually happen in the afternoon or evening. Yellow light mixes with blue and makes green.

Some of you guys obviously have no idea what you're looking for. This is some of the best footage I've seen of the most severe storms we've ever had in Northern Illinois. I've tried capturing footage of tornadoes myself but they've never been as clear as this. One of the most spectacular parts of this is the extreme difference in the light. When severe storms like this occur, it is so difficult to get digital cameras to balance the really rare kind of light that happens during storms like these. And somehow you managed to set your equipment perfectly. I feel like I'm standing right outside with you. Honestly, those lightning strikes scare the s*** out of me and most people would not have the balls to keep standing out there after that. Not to mention the, um, tornado coming after that? LOL!!! I really don't know how else to say but that you are an incredible human being and I certainly appreciate everything you went through to post this. Thank you!
This day was the start of a crazy week for myself and my family. I’m from the Birmingham, AL area and was on the way to St Louis to visit my wife’s cousin. We stayed at the Marriott(I think) Union Station downtown. As we approached ST Louis, we could see the horizon was VERY dark and ominous. I dropped my family off at the door, and pulled around to the large, partially open air canopy on the back side of the hotel with booming thunder and lightning cracking over my head. I sat in the rental for several minutes, scared to move because of the lightning. I made a run for it and got into the hotel. No sooner I got to our room, tornado sirens went off as one of the two tornadic storms that day hit Lambert. A Cardinals game that was going on or about to start, was postponed if I remember correctly. We left Sunday, and on April 27, an F5 hit the Birmingham metro, missing our house by about 4-5 miles, and my old job by a mile or two.
That thunder reminds me of the tornado we got on April 4, 1974. I awoke at 5:35 in the morning to that same type of thunder in the distance. One minute later, we got hit by a very fast-moving tornado that damaged our house and destroyed the one across the street and over to the left of our driveway. It was completely slabbed. The family survived, all because they were clinging to the toilette plumbing. Two of them were injured enough that they required treatment at the hospital, but they all made it through. Our street, driveways and yards were all stripped of grass and dirt along with the pavement. I'll never forget having to step down from our carport into the driveway, because all that pavement was missing. It was utterly terrifying!
I love that there's lots of positive cloud-to-ground lightning that's what you see just be careful that you don't hear a zap sound or buzzing because those positive lightning strikes can hit anything at any given time unlike regular conventional lightning positive strikes are the worst because you never know when they're going to hit you the only way you'll know is if your hair stands up on end then it's time to head inside quickly this only happens when tornado activity occurs
This for me is one of the best tornado/storm approach videos yet on UA-cam. I love the build up and atmosphere. Nice house/houses too and you are very calm and informative. Hope it passed without too much incident? Greetings from the UK by the way, we don't get impressive storms like these but I lived in South Carolina for a few years as a kid and had a few close calls. If you perform a search with St. Louis Tornado at Lambert Airport, you'll come across some pretty major footage, and yes it was a tornado that did lots of damage to the airport and sent people running to get away from broken windows and very strong airplane fuel fumes.
That is exactly how it looked over our trailer one day. The tornado was brewing, going round and round as if it was in a big iron boiling pot. It went on over and hit in a trailer park about 5 miles or so away.
I don't know anyone who saw a funnel cloud, even people who realized after the fact they were pointing their cameras directly at the tornado. Wide, rain-wrapped and amorphous it was not easy to see. Even at the airport people looking directly at it couldn't see anything but destruction occurring.

The worst case scenario possible would be a rain wrapped twister, obscured by hail, in a huge metropolitan area such as Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma City, you name it, at about 1 or 2 am, moving in an anti-cyclonic pattern with speeds clocking in at over 318 mph. The worst part about that is that people would have warning, but hardly anyone would be awake enough to realize the situation, let alone be watching tv. There's not even news on at 2 am, I don't think. Thousands, or even millions or billions in damages... Countless lives lost... Destruction everywhere. It would be devastating. I pray that this never happens...
I've only seen one brief image of the Good Friday Tornado and it was a YT image showing about a 1/4 mile stove pipe tornado. I'm still amazed their were no deaths with it.

Greenage is often associated with tornadoes but that's not always the case, as stated before.
Tornadoes can also make the sky appear yellow before hand. Green skies usually indicate a heavy amount of hail in the supercell, however, not always a tornado, just more likely than not, like greater than 50%, or as The Weather Channel may call it, a Tor-Con of 6 or better.

Where did this take place? I have never seen such black clouds! Or, at least, rarely seen such black clouds. We were hit with tornado systems here in Ottawa, Canada, in September, 2018. There was an awful lot of damage. Rare for us up here. My building did not suffer damage. We were not injured; only inconvenienced, as we were without power for 52 hours.

Did you know that when the sky turns yellowish-green like it does in parts of your video it means a tornado is imminent? My Mom taught me that and she lived in tornado alley as a kid. Your video is excellent!
Not necessarily. A green or yellowish green sky is usually a sign of an incoming hailstorm. Of course, if a storm is powerful enough to produce hail it can probably produce a tornado too. I've lived in Tornado Alley on the Great Plains for more than 50 years and have seen green skies and hailstorms hundreds of times.
Omg I remember this storm!, i was in florissant during this. Those lightning strikes were absolutely horrible. The bank building by 270 got its roof torn off. My roof got shredded and a lightning strike struck the air conditioning unit. The storm also knocked a tree onto the powerline in the back yard
That looked like an extremely dangerous situation! There was definitely a wall cloud. Then the wall cloud, and possible tornado, quickly became rain wrapped. A violent rain wrapped tornado is probably the most dangerous of all tornadoes, because no one can see the tornado until it’s too late.

he must have been on the northern edge of a storm that was moving east with close lightning going on right behind him.the storm was nicely building, the funnel was rain wrapped he was looking right at it! he was facing south maybe southeast?

Definitely a bunch of positively charge bolts, usually a sign of a really severe storm/tornado.

Where did this take place? I have never seen such black clouds! Or, at least, rarely seen such black clouds.
We were hit with tornado systems here in Ottawa, Canada, in September, 2018. There was an awful lot of damage. Rare for us up here. My building did not suffer damage. We were not injured; only inconvenienced, as we were without power for 52 hours.
Yikes!! 😬😬. ☁️ to ground ⚡ at 3:46!!! Don't 🤬 with it!! And throughout the whole video one would forget that the sun stayed out for almost the entire duration of the video off in the opposite direction cause your so concentrated with the dangerous, impending weather right there in front of you. Looks like a very nice gated community that your living in. All the 🏠's and properties look very well maintained! 👍👍

My daughter and I were getting massages when that was hitting down the road at the airport! Weirdest storm we seen! Calm on one side absolutely quiet and other side poured rain! Told her we’re out!! Sped home to basement!! Terrified!

Did you know that when the sky turns yellowish-green like it does in parts of your video it means a tornado is imminent? My Mom taught me that and she lived in tornado alley as a kid. Your video is excellent!
Ny brother would say to me there's a green cloud. I thought he was just teasing me but lo and behold later he was right .
Not necessarily. A green or yellowish green sky is usually a sign of an incoming hailstorm. Of course, if a storm is powerful enough to produce hail it can probably produce a tornado too. I've lived in Tornado Alley on the Great Plains for more than 50 years and have seen green skies and hailstorms hundreds of times.

Omg I remember this storm!, i was in florissant during this. Those lightning strikes were absolutely horrible. The bank building by 270 got its roof torn off. My roof got shredded and a lightning strike struck the air conditioning unit. The storm also knocked a tree onto the powerline in the back yard

That looked like an extremely dangerous situation! There was definitely a wall cloud. Then the wall cloud, and possible tornado, quickly became rain wrapped. A violent rain wrapped tornado is probably the most dangerous of all tornadoes, because no one can see the tornado until it’s too late.
The typical pea green color associated with them is clear in this video! What I learned living in the southern USA!

Rain wrapped tornado
I have seen a tornado once in Houston back in November 1992, it was an F-2 as it hit Hermann Park.
he must have been on the northern edge of a storm that was moving east with close lightning going on right behind him.the storm was nicely building, the funnel was rain wrapped he was looking right at it! he was facing south maybe southeast?
