My comment is for anyone that comes along looking for advice of what to do in a storm... DON'T DO WHAT THIS GUY DID. Always ALWAYS get to the lowest most interior room. Get away from windows and glass. Bathrooms can provide good safety because of the plumbing that is usually inside the walls. . It can sometimes help give you more protection with a direct hit. Put as many walls between you and the outside walls. You will not always see the tornado coming... Even in the daytime they are hard to see especially if they are wrapped in rain. They can also be erratic in the way they move. Play it safe and take it seriously. Even if the tornado isn't hitting your neighborhood directly you win still have to deal with insane damaging winds and possibly flying debris along with the possibility of very large damaging hail that could easily bust out windows. Take care y'all.

The tornado could be only a mile from you and you wouldn't see it. He NEEDS to take shelter if there is a tornado warning.

I never trust that any building is going to completely keep me safe in a tornado. After seeing photos of the Joplin tornado and what it did to the High school, Walmart, Home Depot etc that prior to that tornado seemed like buildings sturdy enough to keep you safe. Just scary how powerful they can be.
Joplin and 2011 was an unusual year for tornados. They are usually not that powerful. But hotels are usually built sturdy enough to sustain F5 winds. If you don't trust any building. What do you trust?
@@notthefather3919 I live in Florida and haven’t seen any big EF 4 or EF 5 tornados but if I did live in an area where they can happen, I would ideally want to go into a designated storm shelter underground or an above ground one, and if all else failed I would want to be in a sturdy building on the lowest level in a room in the center of the building. The Joplin high school and St. John’s medical center were both destroyed but people did survive in the hospital by taking shelter, no one was in the school but even though that was destroyed, there were some places which may have sparred you from the worst.

Meteorologist here...... at 1:49 you can see the tops of the thunderstorms at sunset off in the distance in central Oklahoma just southeast of Oklahoma City. The large shield of clouds on the horizon to the right of where the sunset are the tops of a line of storms moving out of Kansas and northeast Oklahoma. All of this was a significant severe weather outbreak that occurred on Oct 21 2019. A significant tornado (EF3) passed very close to where this video was shot.
Thanks for the detailed info. When this guy said "there's a tornado warning.. I don't SEE a tornado" and proceeds to stay in his room.. This is definitely how people get killed. That definitely would have been a smart move to head to the stair well and pull up a radar on his phone. Very cool video though!

As soon as the tornado warning was issued they should have made an announcement on the intercom for everyone to take the stairs to the first floor, get in an interior hallway, or closet away from exterior windows and doors.

So it is his responsibility to get to the lower floors and find the safest shelter possible. No matter what some person may yell out over a Intercom system. Indicates that there is a strong and dangerous tornado on the ground and that you need to take cover immediately Tornado Emergency - These rarely get issued. Indicates a strong and potentially violent tornado is on the ground. Usually issued for areas with a population and you need to take All tornado warnings should be taken seriously no matter what. Especially at night, most of the time you can only tell night tornadoes by radar or when lightning strikes as it would be very hard to see.
Also it was night as you now tornadoes blend in with the sky so you can’t actually see the tornado until a lightning strike then the tornado is actually visible as you can see the outline
If there’s a tvs marker on radar I go out to watch it. I’d do the same in a tornado warning. If it’s coming toward me I definitely wouldn’t. And if the hail is over me I wouldn’t cause that would hurt. But if I’m not in its path and have a good view I’m gonna go outside and get some pretty photos.
I would have headed down to the lowest floor as soon as the warning was issued. It's not worth the risk to stay up there, and I definitely wouldn't be near a window.

Cars can be thrown more than a mile away and end up at the top of water tower, look up the Smithville tornado of April 27th 2011 . You are only safe on a central room with no windows on the lowest floor on your building for an EF3 max or underground for an EF4/EF5.
@You WILL Eat My Turds I don't think the're numbers for that, but if you watch enough tornado videos, you will that debris is launched at least 100 feet in the air, so at least 9/10 floors up. Most of the time an EF3 will destroy the roof, and the last or 2 last floors up. The others below will be also hit and the only "safe" please would have been the lowest floor. But keep in mind that most people hit by tornadoes live in single or one story home and that the safest place is a central room with no windows or a basement.
"Eye of the storm", LOL. It's definitely not a hurricane. You got a bonus, unexpected, free entertainment. But, that giant glass foyer would scare me far more than the room windows.
The thing is, tornadoes are pretty much impossible to see at night unless it's not rainwrapped and there's constant lightning present at the same time, then you can see the silhouette of the tornado if it has a condensation funnel. You actually may have been in either some strong inflow or you could've been in the outer wind boundary of the tornado if it touched down. A little helpful fact: When rainwrapped, it's like putting a thick blanket over a mirror. It happens in seconds but usually lasts five to ten minutes, then the RFD (Rear Flank Downdraft that causes rainwrapping to happen) clears off maybe little, some or completely, revealing the "bear in the cage". Be safe out there if you come across a supercell storm or severe thunderstorm like that.
@@dougmcdougal3777 He needs to be careful around storms like that. It's always best to be educated and well prepared for the worst at any given moment. After all, there's no guarantee as to how strong a tornado will be or when and where it'll touch down. Reed Timmer, a brilliant storm chaser learned that the hard way in 2018. He was outside of his tornado tank (Dominator 3) and a violent tornado with EF3 force winds starting off touched down right on top of him while he was scanning a wall cloud not too far from where he was. He had no cover and couldn't get the doors to Dominator 3 to open, so he just grabbed onto the bottom of the vehicle and held on for dear life. He's very lucky to be alive after that.
There's no real profit in a mini bar and also that means the hotels would have to check every single item to make sure it is not expired. Keeps the health department away. Imagine checking 350 rooms for food storage and cleanliness
The minute the warning hit, you should have closed the door to your bedroom which you criticized. Then if you are in shape to be able to climb stairs well, go downstairs to lowest level. Once down, get in an area away from glass dome. Usually a public restroom by the breakfast area or under the second floor rooms. While there you would have discovered that they have a snack shop by register. If you couldn’t climb all the steps if needed then go into your hallway or bathroom. That building seemed to have a back up generator and you could have made it on elevator. Never stand in front of windows. Always close doors to exterior rooms and try to get to the lowest floor possible. The Embassy Suites has a good set up away from windows and you could have always used the pillow sections of sofa to cover yourself. If you used bathroom for cover, shut the door, putting as many walls and doors between you and windows.
as a person from europe that has never seen a tornado, i wouldn't just stayed in my room in a hotel like that just bc i am pretty sure its safe, its not really common sense.

Going to the first floor will allow you to have easier access to escape, so that if the tornado rips off the top half of the building off, you're not inside it, so that high flying debris has a less likely chance of hitting where you are, etc etc, I'm sure there's a lot more! ^^

OMG! Love this video. Being from California I was freaking out being exposed to southern storms and it wasn't half as severe as your experience. Appartently, it's normal. I understand now what people mean when they say "Yes, Califonria is the worst but at least we have good weather."
you should have taken shelter in a stairwell or an interior room away from windows. If there is a tornado warning, dont wait to see or hear the tornado. very bad idea to watch it come at you by looking out a window.
Story- One time it was night and me and my parents got a tornado warning and my mom told me that it meant that there could be a tornado but the storm was bad and the next morning it turned out a tornado hit 1 mile from us. Hope you all stay safe. At that time I did not know that a tornado warning meant that there was a tornado spotted in my área. 😅
When I was a young man, I worked on the embassy in Rogers. The building was built with severe weather in mind. It was the NWA areas first major hotel and was built with extreme code.
LOVE Embassy Suites. I knew that's what it was when you were entering your room... before checking the location. The atriums in the center of their hotels are awesome. I stayed at one in Richmond, Virginia that had a major waterway running through the ground floor with bridges across the waterways... through the entire atrium... it was awesome. Really love Embassy Suites... even the way the rooms are laid out.
Thunderstorms like this are _exactly_ why the alarm clocks in hotel rooms throughout North America (especially the United States and Canada) should be required to be NOAA weather radios containing specific area message encoding functionality without exception, in addition to being able to receive traditional AM/FM radio. Different chains would be permitted to use different brands of NOAA weather radio warning devices, but none without the ability to receive NOAA weather radio broadcasts and alerts for their area. At home, I use a Midland WR400 NOAA weather radio, and I couldn't be more pleased with having it in my possession. I am espically pleased to also have a Midland ER310 that I can take with me when I travel.

Yeah, this guy was pretty damn stupid when it comes to severe thunderstorms/tornadoes. The tornado that this storm produced was an EF3, and had it hit his building, he would have been in a world of hurt, or possibly killed. Hope he learned something from this.

Welcome to Arkansas. We were brought out of slumber at 4:15AM this morning to a tornado on the ground about 17 miles south of us. The only reason I woke up was the EXTREMELY loud thunder. Then the sirens went off. A little too late for some.
@@OutSidrQQn This isn't entirely true. I live in texas in the heart of tornado alley and have been through over 8 tornadoes, one being an EF4. I still get incredibly scared everytime a warning goes off and to all texas and oklahomans who don't take it seriously, I quite frankly don't feel bad for them if something happens.

The worst storm I’ve ever experienced was Hurricane Ida last Wednesday when it hit my area, there was so much flooding and tornadoes by my area, I was in New York
I'm studying meteorology in college and use videos about the weather to help me learn and this video was recommended to me. Learning about the weather in some videos and using my textbook I'm able to actually able to answer some questions.
Even when a tornado is halfway across my state and i still get that warning on my phone by the National Weather Service I always go as quickly as i can down to the basement because tornadoes are serious and you can get killed
thats so weird I kinda had the same experience before too. One time I was staying at the embassy suites in Lincoln Nebraska in 2011 and a very bad storm hit and downstairs the bars doors blew open and all the shelfs at the bar collapsed it was crazy lol and its my favorite hotel to stay at
I'm from this region, and I'm just happy you know we exist. I remember this storm too, this had a tornado that hit Rogers and was ranked EF2. It was a small crappy tornado outbreak, but it was still fascinating to me. However, my girlfriend at the time did not enjoy a single ounce of it. (Also that wind was the tornado going by you, I am not even kidding.)
This was in October 2019 in Rogers Arkansas. I live here. It was a tornado that traveled pretty far f2 or f3 if I remember. Unfortunately one person was killed in this storm. The tornado tracked about .5 miles to the north of the hotel he was staying.
Ours would never let us out when they know it's gonna storm.. They either make us stay inside all day or they do early dismissal- We did that once before and when they said bad weather it didn't even do nothing but rain- ☠️
My first experience was back home in Texas. I was alone at home and it was also night time. It was scary but exciting at the same time. I looked out the windows before it got bad but it was similar to this experience I took a peak outside and came back in and got into my bathtub with some pillows. It turned out just fine. Ever since then I have been so fascinated with tornados. Glad you’re safe! 😊

Here in Texas, it had been loud too! I had to hide in my closet to make a video, but It was too loud. It was pouring hard. In February it was snowing and ice was everywhere! In Texas there is some crazy weather. Today it is sunny, but tomorrow it will be raining and lightning.
I’m in Northern Ireland and I’m so excited for the thunderstorms tonight. Supposed to be intense. It’s been a good year for weather. We had quite a bit of snow, actually a blizzard in February.
I was in The Joplin Missouri tornado in 2011 was 15 blocks away from me absolute worst day of my life sounded like a fraight train and I will never forget that day
Just an average day out here in the Midwest. Weather is bipolar as hell out here. Southern Indiana especially. We are in a valley so extreme bipolar weather. Sirens will be going off and people will just be doing normal things outside like it's no big deal.

Many years ago, I was in North Carolina staying at a hotel I believe it was in Greensboro. I was watching TV when a tornado warning came out for our area. We did not have a tornado, thank God. However, that storm was wicked!! Stay safe man. I know how bad Mother Nature can get. By the way, you have a beautiful family. I am new to your channel and I like what I see so far.
When it comes to tornadoes at night you usually can't see them, but you can definitely hear them. They have a very distinct sound. You can hear it pass by right around the time the visibility started to go. At 4:50 It sounds like a lot of rain/wind outside the building but that is the tornado.
It's amazing how many people don't know the difference between a tornado and a microburst. This was a microburst in my opinion. If it was a tornado the building would have been badly damaged and a lot of windows broken and cars upturned.
I laughed out loud at the end when you're listening to the announcement that you can return to your guest rooms... Great footage of the windows in the atrium and what sounded like the wind. That was a pretty intense storm! You certain received more than your fair share of 'helpful' comments.
I was in a bad thunderstorm 1 or 2 weeks ago at 3AM I woke up to it and noticed it. I was soooo scared. My mom also woke up and told me theres nothing to worry about. Luckly the storm ended and I went back to sleep. (This was in Colorado btw). The thunder was so loud so I wasn't able to sleep through the storm plus the lightning was very bright so it kept flashing in my eyes. The winds were also very high so I was worried a tornado would form. The rain was heavy also. I was scared that night but luckly no tornado formed. I was very scared though, like 1000 chills going down my spine, very fast heartbeat, and heavy breathing. I was just so glad nothing bad happened. Anyways, sorry if my grammar is bad. Last night, me and my family were in Brandon FL going to get dinner at a pizza place we hadn’t visited in years. We were a few minutes away from the place when all the sudden the skies opened up and rain began pouring down and gave no visibility. There were lightning strikes too close for comfort (one was literally a foot from our car) and then, as if it couldn’t get worse, it started hailing. My dad found a gas station to pull into an others soon followed. The wind was insane, 60+ mph and throwing things around as if they were toys. People were racing around, nearly hitting each other to find shelter so there vehicles wouldn’t be totaled. Once the hail stopped, we left the gas station and continued driving but that’s when the rain got heavier. The wind was swaying power lines around, blowing signs and trees down to the ground, the roads began to flood and everyone literally stopped in their tracks on the roadway because it was impossible to drive. We pulled into the restaurant parking lot to wait the rest of the storm out but it refused to stop raining. We ended up parking and dashing inside to safety but that was honestly the worst storm I have ever experienced besides a few hurricanes and one tornado and I am still left shaken from that experience.

I was camping at a music festival called Wakarusa in Arkansas and we had a crazy tornadic cell come through. It was crazy being in a tent during that. Several poles snapped, my rain fly was 300 feet away stuck on a car exaust. Got so bad we had to jump in the car soaking wet. Good times

Derechos in the midwest are fairly common, but they're never really all that bad. Winds gust to around 60mph at the most normally. The derecho we got here in Iowa a year ago was an exception. That storm was insane. I hope to never experience something like that again. It is the only storm I've ever been in where I was legitimately scared.
We had one come through Virginia in 2012 and it was rockin. You always hear the cliche about something sounding like a freight train coming but it really did sound like that. I think that was like an hour of 80mph winds. F that
I would have kept the lights off, opened the curtains, looked out at the raging storm, jumped into bed under the covers and would have been sound asleep in 1 minute listening to the storm outside. You're in a well-built hotel, no need to worry; I would have had the best sleep of my life listening the rain and thunder.

So it is his responsibility to get to the lower floors and find the safest shelter possible. No matter what some person may yell out over a Intercom system. Use your own intuition and do what is going to be best for you. The intercom idiot could get you killed.

So, actually most tornado warnings get issued when there is rotation in the sky. There are 4 levels of tornado warnings.
General Tornado warning - Rotation in the sky, a tornado to form is likely (or could be on the ground just not confirmed by someone)
Confirmed tornado warning - A weather spotter has confirmed the tornado on the ground
PDS tornado warning - "Particularly Dangerous Situation". Indicates that there is a strong and dangerous tornado on the ground and that you need to take cover immediately
Tornado Emergency - These rarely get issued. Indicates a strong and potentially violent tornado is on the ground. Usually issued for areas with a population and you need to take
All tornado warnings should be taken seriously no matter what. Especially at night, most of the time you can only tell night tornadoes by radar or when lightning strikes as it would be very hard to see.
Also it was night as you now tornadoes blend in with the sky so you can’t actually see the tornado until a lightning strike then the tornado is actually visible as you can see the outline

I remember in April 27, 2011 there were so many tornado emergencies.
If there’s a tvs marker on radar I go out to watch it. I’d do the same in a tornado warning. If it’s coming toward me I definitely wouldn’t. And if the hail is over me I wouldn’t cause that would hurt. But if I’m not in its path and have a good view I’m gonna go outside and get some pretty photos.
General tornado warning would be more "Radar Indication of rapid rotation or tornadic touchdown in a certain area", but thank u for the explanation
I would have headed down to the lowest floor as soon as the warning was issued. It's not worth the risk to stay up there, and I definitely wouldn't be near a window.

Cars can be thrown more than a mile away and end up at the top of water tower, look up the Smithville tornado of April 27th 2011 . You are only safe on a central room with no windows on the lowest floor on your building for an EF3 max or underground for an EF4/EF5.
@You WILL Eat My Turds I don't think the're numbers for that, but if you watch enough tornado videos, you will that debris is launched at least 100 feet in the air, so at least 9/10 floors up.
Most of the time an EF3 will destroy the roof, and the last or 2 last floors up.
The others below will be also hit and the only "safe" please would have been the lowest floor.
But keep in mind that most people hit by tornadoes live in single or one story home and that the safest place is a central room with no windows or a basement.
The wind is stronger up higher like that too since there isn’t friction with the ground.

The thing is, tornadoes are pretty much impossible to see at night unless it's not rainwrapped and there's constant lightning present at the same time, then you can see the silhouette of the tornado if it has a condensation funnel. You actually may have been in either some strong inflow or you could've been in the outer wind boundary of the tornado if it touched down. A little helpful fact: When rainwrapped, it's like putting a thick blanket over a mirror. It happens in seconds but usually lasts five to ten minutes, then the RFD (Rear Flank Downdraft that causes rainwrapping to happen) clears off maybe little, some or completely, revealing the "bear in the cage". Be safe out there if you come across a supercell storm or severe thunderstorm like that.

@@dougmcdougal3777 He needs to be careful around storms like that. It's always best to be educated and well prepared for the worst at any given moment. After all, there's no guarantee as to how strong a tornado will be or when and where it'll touch down. Reed Timmer, a brilliant storm chaser learned that the hard way in 2018. He was outside of his tornado tank (Dominator 3) and a violent tornado with EF3 force winds starting off touched down right on top of him while he was scanning a wall cloud not too far from where he was. He had no cover and couldn't get the doors to Dominator 3 to open, so he just grabbed onto the bottom of the vehicle and held on for dear life. He's very lucky to be alive after that.
There's no real profit in a mini bar and also that means the hotels would have to check every single item to make sure it is not expired. Keeps the health department away. Imagine checking 350 rooms for food storage and cleanliness

The minute the warning hit, you should have closed the door to your bedroom which you criticized. Then if you are in shape to be able to climb stairs well, go downstairs to lowest level. Once down, get in an area away from glass dome. Usually a public restroom by the breakfast area or under the second floor rooms. While there you would have discovered that they have a snack shop by register. If you couldn’t climb all the steps if needed then go into your hallway or bathroom. That building seemed to have a back up generator and you could have made it on elevator. Never stand in front of windows. Always close doors to exterior rooms and try to get to the lowest floor possible. The Embassy Suites has a good set up away from windows and you could have always used the pillow sections of sofa to cover yourself. If you used bathroom for cover, shut the door, putting as many walls and doors between you and windows.

Going to the first floor will allow you to have easier access to escape, so that if the tornado rips off the top half of the building off, you're not inside it, so that high flying debris has a less likely chance of hitting where you are, etc etc, I'm sure there's a lot more! ^^

you should have taken shelter in a stairwell or an interior room away from windows. If there is a tornado warning, dont wait to see or hear the tornado. very bad idea to watch it come at you by looking out a window.

Story- One time it was night and me and my parents got a tornado warning and my mom told me that it meant that there could be a tornado but the storm was bad and the next morning it turned out a tornado hit 1 mile from us. Hope you all stay safe.

When I was a young man, I worked on the embassy in Rogers. The building was built with severe weather in mind. It was the NWA areas first major hotel and was built with extreme code.

I stayed at one in Richmond, Virginia that had a major waterway running through the ground floor with bridges across the waterways... through the entire atrium... it was awesome. Really love Embassy Suites... even the way the rooms are laid out.

Thunderstorms like this are _exactly_ why the alarm clocks in hotel rooms throughout North America (especially the United States and Canada) should be required to be NOAA weather radios containing specific area message encoding functionality without exception, in addition to being able to receive traditional AM/FM radio. Different chains would be permitted to use different brands of NOAA weather radio warning devices, but none without the ability to receive NOAA weather radio broadcasts and alerts for their area. At home, I use a Midland WR400 NOAA weather radio, and I couldn't be more pleased with having it in my possession. I am espically pleased to also have a Midland ER310 that I can take with me when I travel.

Yeah, this guy was pretty damn stupid when it comes to severe thunderstorms/tornadoes. The tornado that this storm produced was an EF3, and had it hit his building, he would have been in a world of hurt, or possibly killed. Hope he learned something from this.

Welcome to Arkansas. We were brought out of slumber at 4:15AM this morning to a tornado on the ground about 17 miles south of us. The only reason I woke up was the EXTREMELY loud thunder. Then the sirens went off. A little too late for some.

I still get incredibly scared everytime a warning goes off and to all texas and oklahomans who don't take it seriously, I quite frankly don't feel bad for them if something happens.

Even when a tornado is halfway across my state and i still get that warning on my phone by the National Weather Service I always go as quickly as i can down to the basement because tornadoes are serious and you can get killed
thats so weird I kinda had the same experience before too. One time I was staying at the embassy suites in Lincoln Nebraska in 2011 and a very bad storm hit and downstairs the bars doors blew open and all the shelfs at the bar collapsed it was crazy lol and its my favorite hotel to stay at

I'm from this region, and I'm just happy you know we exist. I remember this storm too, this had a tornado that hit Rogers and was ranked EF2. It was a small crappy tornado outbreak, but it was still fascinating to me. However, my girlfriend at the time did not enjoy a single ounce of it. (Also that wind was the tornado going by you, I am not even kidding.)
Must have been a funnel-cloud above the hotel, passing-over but it was quite low!
This was in October 2019 in Rogers Arkansas. I live here. It was a tornado that traveled pretty far f2 or f3 if I remember. Unfortunately one person was killed in this storm. The tornado tracked about .5 miles to the north of the hotel he was staying.

My first experience was back home in Texas. I was alone at home and it was also night time. It was scary but exciting at the same time. I looked out the windows before it got bad but it was similar to this experience I took a peak outside and came back in and got into my bathtub with some pillows. It turned out just fine. Ever since then I have been so fascinated with tornados. Glad you’re safe! 😊

It's dark and storm clouds/tornadoes can be super fast. Even the wind could seem to blow the wrong direction and suddenly it turns and you're screwed. If there's a warning, take it seriously

Many years ago, I was in North Carolina staying at a hotel I believe it was in Greensboro. I was watching TV when a tornado warning came out for our area. We did not have a tornado, thank God. When it comes to tornadoes at night you usually can't see them, but you can definitely hear them. They have a very distinct sound. You can hear it pass by right around the time the visibility started to go. At 4:50 It sounds like a lot of rain/wind outside the building but that is the tornado.

In the south, we get tornado warned storms sometimes where there are no storm spotters and there's rotation on radar.
It's amazing how many people don't know the difference between a tornado and a microburst. This was a microburst in my opinion. If it was a tornado the building would have been badly damaged and a lot of windows broken and cars upturned.

I was in a bad thunderstorm 1 or 2 weeks ago at 3AM I woke up to it and noticed it. I was soooo scared. My mom also woke up and told me theres nothing to worry about. Luckly the storm ended and I went back to sleep. (This was in Colorado btw). The thunder was so loud so I wasn't able to sleep through the storm plus the lightning was very bright so it kept flashing in my eyes. The winds were also very high so I was worried a tornado would form. The rain was heavy also. I was scared that night but luckly no tornado formed. I was very scared though, like 1000 chills going down my spine, very fast heartbeat, and heavy breathing. I was just so glad nothing bad happened. Anyways, sorry if my grammar is bad. I just wanted to tell what I been through and how I felt- T-T
Last night, me and my family were in Brandon FL going to get dinner at a pizza place we hadn’t visited in years. We were a few minutes away from the place when all the sudden the skies opened up and rain began pouring down and gave no visibility. There were lightning strikes too close for comfort (one was literally a foot from our car) and then, as if it couldn’t get worse, it started hailing. My dad found a gas station to pull into an others soon followed. The wind was insane, 60+ mph and throwing things around as if they were toys. People were racing around, nearly hitting each other to find shelter so there vehicles wouldn’t be totaled. Once the hail stopped, we left the gas station and continued driving but that’s when the rain got heavier. The wind was swaying power lines around, blowing signs and trees down to the ground, the roads began to flood and everyone literally stopped in their tracks on the roadway because it was impossible to drive. We pulled into the restaurant parking lot to wait the rest of the storm out but it refused to stop raining. We ended up parking and dashing inside to safety but that was honestly the worst storm I have ever experienced besides a few hurricanes and one tornado and I am still left shaken from that experience.

I was camping at a music festival called Wakarusa in Arkansas and we had a crazy tornadic cell come through. It was crazy being in a tent during that. Several poles snapped, my rain fly was 300 feet away stuck on a car exaust. Got so bad we had to jump in the car soaking wet. Good times

Derechos in the midwest are fairly common, but they're never really all that bad. Winds gust to around 60mph at the most normally. The derecho we got here in Iowa a year ago was an exception. That storm was insane. I hope to never experience something like that again. It is the only storm I've ever been in where I was legitimately scared.
We had one come through Virginia in 2012 and it was rockin. You always hear the cliche about something sounding like a freight train coming but it really did sound like that. I think that was like an hour of 80mph winds. F that

I would have kept the lights off, opened the curtains, looked out at the raging storm, jumped into bed under the covers and would have been sound asleep in 1 minute listening to the storm outside.
