Honestly? These lyrics don’t remind me of my girl hood. It all feels more like mental illness symptoms. Like the way people act when they’re self destructing. And some of these (the inability to leave bed, retail therapy) all remind me of my own experiences with depression.
This seems like he’s seeing Girlhood as synonymous with being mentally ill. Which is actually not true and some extreme problematic thinking and truly misogynistic ideas.

Because the music industry can make anyone into a music star nowadays. Music isn't a sound anymore. It's not a melody anymore. It's not instrumentation or a great voice anymore, because those things can all be made by someone else. So-called musicians rarely write their own music anymore. Studio musicians are just hired for recordings, and more and more, they aren't anything more than computer generated. Even a horrible singer can be filtered through an autotune to sound decent, even if they're horrible. Come to think of it, since this video contains a woman who's pretending to be a man, I guess it's a metaphor for the entire industry. They can just make anyone into a music icon these days and it's all fake.
Being promiscuous and not remembering names is a female stereotype? Did those switch at some point? I thought that was always a stereotype of men that's been overused in movies since forever.

I think this was pointed this out in a video in which Dylan said that "girl" is used instead of "woman" because it is depicting the beginning of a transition and didn't want to "skip" the developmental years of biological women.

I understand the message Dylan was trying to make but it just felt extremely stereotypical and insensitive because the things Dylan mentioned are far from what being a woman means, and some of these stereotypes men use against women as a way to be condescending. I feel awful for the trans women who are simply trying to live their lives because people like Dylan are giving them a bad name and are making people perceive them the wrong way. Literally every human on the planet is "non-binary" if you define it as having both feminine and masculine character traits or preferences in some way or another. To say that all people who don't identify as "non-binary" are just fully and completely feminine or fully and completely masculine is the most conservative definition of gender expression I've ever come across. People didn't used to be as conservative about those definitions back in the 90s and 00s. But it could also just be a declaration of adhering to a certain belief system. Dylan is pretty good at delivering that system's message, almost like a kind of TikTok prophet.

As a trans woman, yes, I agree, it’s frustrating, they’ve been on hormones for what? A year? Maybe less? What do they suddenly know about “girlhood”, why couldn’t Gigi gorgeous be in a Kim Petra’s video. Kim Petras (also trans also in the pop sphere) had horrible dysphoria, transitioned as a child, is wildly successful on her own because of her vocals and talent and is great representation in her videos (IE: doesn’t feel like I’m watching a mockery of trans women making a mockery of cis women, just feels like I’m watching a woman).
I’m all for empowering trans women to be themselves and not make passing into a mentally unhealthy obsession, but I also hate the idea that this is our representation. They have 0 idea of what it means to be a woman.

Wednesday: studied early morning, had to get a few orders ready for my clothing business and dropped them at clients, au paired, went for a run, did a LOT of admin.
Thursday: same basically
Friday: same
Saturday: went to a charity event where we try to get people to get more involved with kids with non-supporting parents, did some gardening, worked on my clothing brand. Went for a hike with my friends.

If im being honest, I don't actually hate it. If it were advertised as a parody like we all know it is, it would be actually funny. This however is not "girl" hood.. maybe college-hoe-hood. I found a part stuck in my head but unintentionally it was versed more like "pick up my backpack head to school" it took me a minute to realize that was that song, and not the actual lyrics... Well the thing about cosplayers, is that they are a more liberal community, and they are the ones to identify as trans, non-binary, etc. I see many cases of that in that community where they dress up as a character that is their actual gender, but lable that as cosplaying someone of a different sex. It's honestly astonishing 😅

Was looking for this response, I really think conservatives are mostly responsible for Dylan rising to relevancy from the start, wich is a shame because I dont see why Dylan himself is worthy of so much attention, a cringe individual yes, but not a number 1 monster worth mentioning.

I understand both sides. Im conservative and thought it was insensitive of what being a woman really means but I get why people like it. I just don’t think dylan understood the reality of how several women were going to perceive the song. It’s catchy but I don’t like the lyrics and how she treats womanhood as a costume. And I feel really bad for the trans women who are getting extreme hate from the radical alt right conservatives because of people like Dylan.
