The Planet of the Apes trilogy is one of the better trilogies out there, and I think it’s pretty underrated. I’m interested to see where this series goes from here with the new one.
I actually find them quite rewatchable. They’re not the best films ever but there are some definitely cool moments like when caeser first speaks that I tend to stick around for if they’re on tv
The reboot trilogy was awesome. Andy Serkis’ Caesar definitely carried that trilogy forward with such an emotional performance in the end. Made me tear up!
I don't know I liked his acting and all but I kind of felt like the motion capture/CGI apes lost something. They were samey as each other. I liked the original and the actors in makeup because you could them apart better and the actors were able to emote through the makeup. As much as I like Serkis he never reaches the level of McDowell.
@@criticalcommenter I think they were okay but like I said I personally like the use of make up over CGI and motion capture. The apes lost individuality and character that way. I think that is why they gave them scars and stuff but that is no replacement for what was lost. I will always like the originals best of all even if the new ones are more slick because the writing is stronger in the originals even the less popular later ones.
Still waiting for The Kingdom of the Planet of the Continent of the Country of the State of the Township of the Cul-de-sac of the Little White House of the Apes.
YES! There was such a simpler way to title them: Planet of the Apes: Dawn Planet...Apes: Rise Planet...Apes: War After the first one, go with POTA: Rise, etc. (Minor Edit - think you could have worked "Shire" and "Area 51" into your version. Still, 8.9/10.)
Twitter call these guys the sexist alt-right bigots, yet here they are discussing Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, and never once did they complain about the strong female character
@@liamphibia Ah, but the problem is two-fold. Wanting quality movies runs contra-message AND, labeling thigs that way is just lazy, because those types have no comeback.
I forgot it became Disney. I did notice the strong female character and the human civilization in the bunker at the end was majority women with like one dude.
THE KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES was not bad. It felt slow to me in many places, but I wander if the pacing was meant to reflect to slower, pastoral gait of a world without technology: no planes, cars, telephones, iPad, TikTok, deadlines, afternoon rush, radio, etc. Imagine a world (or our daily routine) without all our technological urgency. Much will be said of the special effects, which are astonishing-consistent, intricate, and excellent.
It wasn't an awful movie, but I felt a lot of my interest was only held with mild mystery aspects like "what's up with this girl who talks and has clothes" then "what is her plan". None of that really makes sense though because she's there through the movie but then has an objective to get into this bunker. The more you think about her character the more she's just there to be whatever the movie needed.
@@notanactualuser I hated her, actually. The second to last scene with her made me hate her and I think she ruined what the whole reboot franchise was about.
Honestly I did want them to continue the story so they could finally tie in the original Heston movie. I'm very interested to see how they remake it in this version
Except, if Disney were doing Logan Runs 2, Logan would be bi, and Jessica would be played by Lizzo. Despite CGI special effects, no one would believe Lizzo was actually running, and fans would call it “Logan’s Waddle.”
I love it. At first thought that it’s going to be hard to top off Caesar’s trilogy, but Wes Ball and team did a great job! Would recommend people to watch it :)
I think actually this one used humans the best out of the four reboot movies and it really expands the world leaving lots of possibilities going forward.
I like they it was shot when Noa and his friends first see a humam, running through the trees, but you can't quite make it out. Almost like you would see a cryptid

Literally 2 mins before The Drinker mentioned her, I looked up Estella Warren. She is the only thing I remember from the Tim Burton one. I was thirteen when the movie came out which explains it
I've rewatched the rebooted Planet of the Apes trilogy and they've aged like fine wine in the years since their release. The best part is indeed Andy Serkis' performance as Caesar. The writing and development of his character is amazingly well done, especially with how well the films are directed. That said, I still have problems with the story and some of the other characters. The biggest problem I have with the series is that it kept teasing a huge battle that will decide the fate of which side becomes the dominate rulers of the planet, yet they never really went for it in the 3rd film, which was a huge letdown for me. Another problem is that I wish they had introduced the Colonel character in Dawn and built him up more as a villain, especially in the aftermath of what Koba had done. I don't want to see Kingdom for multiple reasons. The biggest being that the rebooted series was Caesar's story and War ended that story, so I'm going to leave my experience there. The second biggest reason is that Disney is in charge of this one and I don't trust them. And third, the people who directed and wrote the trilogy are not back for this one, which tells me that the same quality is not going to be there.
@@nicholastaylor9687 It has the same producers, but not the same writers or directors. I am aware that two of the producers, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa did the first two movies, while someone else did the 3rd film, but they're only the producers in this one.
The Caesar Trilogy was never about the coming of a war that would decide who inherits the Earth. We all knew who would eventually come out on top (I mean, it’s right there in the title: _Planet of the Apes_ ). The “war” was always about Caesar’s internal conflict; the war within himself to balance his humanity and his ape-ness. _Rise_ was about discovery. For most of the film, Caesar struggles with his identity. He doesn’t know if he’s a human, an ape, a pet, or an individual. He’s treated like a family member by Will and his father, but like an abomination to the everyone in the outside world. When he’s thrown into the “sanctuary” with the other apes, he sees that he doesn’t fit in there either. He’s an outsider amongst his own kind, and his privilege sets him apart. However, when the man who is basically his father tells him that he can’t come home, Caesar is hit hard with the fact that he is not human, and he’s not part of a family. Maurice, the orangutan, helps him accept that being an ape is not shameful. This turning point is the “rise” of the ape in Caesar; his awakening. This kicks off his entire character arc across the three films. It’s now his purpose in life to elevate and lead the apes to freedom. _Dawn_ is a tragedy filled with hope. It’s about Caesar’s bias and failure. It’s about loss and desperation; innocence and ignorance; Koba’s fear and hatred; Malcom’s empathy and connection. It’s about brother versus brother. It’s about how dark things sometimes have to get before they can get better. That’s the dawn of the title. _War_ is about the war for Caesar’s soul. In this movie, Caesar becomes the villain. He’s motivated by fear and hatred, and he’s becoming the very thing he thought he destroyed in the previous movie: Koba. He thinks he’s trying to protect his people, but his selfishness puts them directly into harm’s way. His battle is not with humans or apes, but with himself; with his capacity for compassion, empathy, and sympathy. His quest for vengeance is in direct opposition with his purpose to elevate and lead apes to the promise land. These movies were never about a war between apes and humans. They’re about the battle to retain humanity and community in the face of chaos, death, and destruction. Apes together strong.
2 different directors did the reboot not one consistent one. I just got it of it and it was a good movie. Criticizing a movie you haven't even seen is weirdddd@@tjjordan4207
If nothing else at least the Apes movies give us something different to watch besides the endless superhero films. First time I saw the preview made me think of the original movie. Funny how the Orangutans in the original are kind of the villains but in the newer reboot trilogy they are the compassionate ones.
The Orangutans were trying to maintain the balance between idealistic chimps and warlike gorillas. In reality, chimps are more aggressive than gorillas. Dr. Zaius said he knew man had destroyed themselves, and thus when Taylor (Heston) shows up, Zaius was worried for the future of apekind. In the second movie, Zaius fails.
The first one was already sh*t. The astronauts didn´t realize the alien apes speaking f-ing English (!!!) is an obvious clue they are not aliens. The "shocking plot twist" with the remnants of the Statue of Liberty worked when I was 7 or 8 and my suspension of disbelief was much stronger. Nice masks and effects for an old movie, but the plot was absurd.
@@mousemetal1679 What’s absurd about the plot? Man lands in a strange environment after being in space, on a mission to find another planet. Man only knows that he is 3,000+ years into his future. Man is captured by a strange species. Man is thought to be an animal, but then exhibits he is intelligent. Man escapes and learns a secret that could upend his captors’ entire existence. Man then learns a shocking truth that upends HIS entire existence. There’s nothing absurd there, especially considering the fact that it’s science fiction. Seems pretty straightforward to me. What I think _you_ think is absurd is the story, not the plot.
@@eyespy3001 The highly educated and intelligent astronaut can´t figure out it´s impossible for alien primate-like creatures to speak f-ing ENGLISH, the language which is spoken on EARTH? And for some reason humans totally identical to those from Earth live on that "alien" planet too? How is it a plot twist he´s on Earth when everything was pointing out to that direction like a giant blinking red arrow since the very beginning? This is not absurd only for a little kid who also doesn´t see Santa Claus and monsters under the bed as absurd.
Kingdom seems more like more character work and set-up for a much more complicated ape vs human conflict, now that humanity is in a very interesting place. The apes are also interesting, because they're starting to act far more human here than in Dawn and War. Seems like Noa and Mae are going to be the crux of the new trilogy, with their relationship and rivalry making things very complicated going forward. Proximus also came across as more of a potential future for Noa. 8/10, in my opinion.
It’s understandable why Drinker wasn’t totally enamoured with the planet of the apes. A typical night out in Glasgow on a Saturday night, is way more wild and dangerous.
Walking out of the theater, the teenagers in front of me said something to the effect of "the human spirit always survives in the end" and laughed, which is very fitting, and also not maybe the best quote to hear walking out of a movie allegedly about apes.
@@vernontk For the MCU the consensus seems to be "phases 1 to 3 great, with the odd stumbling block e.g Thor 2. Phases 4 onwards awful ". For the DCEU it seems to be " doomed from the start". The Transformers and Monsterverse franchises seem to occupy the "turn your brain off fun" ground. I would put Apes into the same bracket as Bond in that there is no consensus. It all depends on who you ask.
@@benglasspool2166I don’t know, man. The consensus on the original movies is “groundbreaking.” The consensus on the Caesar trilogy is “underrated” and “the best trilogy since LotR.” The consensus on the Tim Burton movie is “atrocious.”
1:35 “The third movie brought this whole storyline to a close.” WTF? No lol. It’s called Planet of the Apes, not the Personal Adventures of Caesar. The third one ended with a few dozen apes hiding out in the wilderness. The storyline will be brought to a close when the apes reach the same level of sophistication as humans have today, and when the astronauts from the first movie return to Earth. This series is leading up to the scenario in the original 1968 movie but this time we’ll see it from the apes’ perspective.
I'm older than most of you guys (Mr. Burnett's closest to my age) & the original Apes movies were WAY cool when I was a lad! Sure, most of the sequels may come off as "TV movies" to you (&, while I rewatch all of them, most of the sequels come off as shite), but 1, 2 & 4 were REALLY revolutionary for what were considered "family adventure" films. And Mark Burnett was also right on the "restored" version of "Conquest" - if Fox had the stones to release that cut, well, it would either have gone down in flames or it would've been hailed as a sci-fi "Taxi Driver". It was that damned gutsy Now, I do love the reboots (they've been the most successful reboots of this current pack of them), but Disney/Fox should've resisted the temptation to do this new one. I just wasn't that fired up for a new "Apes" saga & if your consensus holds true, this film is as middling as they come. Sadly, all sagas must end, at least for a while, & "Apes" is no different.
Everything I’m hearing about Kingdom leads me to believe that it’s good. It may not have the pathos of the recent trilogy, but it sounds like a good continuation of the series. I don’t trust these guys’ opinions as far as I could throw them. They’re too into outrage culture, and they like to focus on very nit-picky things that only appeal to a very particular demographic of chronically-online people.
@eyespy3001 It's pretty good, go watch it. It respects the previous trilogy very well. It slowly re-introduces you to the world but it's almost completely new. It's a solid first story that hints to a bigger plot that is yet to come. Probably biggest flaw is that the ending feels kinda anticlimactic. But overall it's still a pretty solid film. It's a worthy sequel so far.
@@christiannoriega428 That seems to be the consensus at present. I'm still leery, but I'm likely to see it. But Disney/Fox has ONE shot to amaze me!....🤔
I adore Planet of the Apes, it's my favourite trilogy of all time. I cannot get tired of it and I'm in complete awe of Andy Serkis as Caesar. I love this world very much. I love the fact that the central theme of the trilogy has always revolved around empathy in some way. Can you empathise with someone that isn't your species? Can you imagine yourself in this conflict? Can you find empathy in your enemy? It's remarkable stuff. I saw the early screening of Kingdom and came away rather disappointed. The movie was rather plot heavy instead of character-focused as it should be. I didn't really find myself to be invested in any of the characters as they weren't as fleshed out as much as they should have been, or they were lacking in screen time. And too much time was dedicated to the human subplot which infuriated me because it just undermined the ending of the third film. I think the creators of Kingdom were too afraid to imagine a world without humans, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO SEE! But we didn't get that.
I haven’t seen Kingdom yet, but how you compared it to the Caesar trilogy sounds like a fair criticism from someone who actually understands the purpose of those three movies. I’m still very interested in seeing it, because, like you, I have fallen in love with this world and just want to be back in it. I applaud the choice to move the story ahead far into the future. It gives enough distance to explore new avenues within this world, where the focus can shift and new themes can be explored. This is something Star Wars needs to learn in order to grow.
@@asellandrofacchio7263 Agreed. Having finally seen it, I can wholeheartedly say that I enjoyed it. Was it on par with Dawn, or War? No. But it didn't have to be. It was a great adventure movie, and it stuck to the basics of the Hero's Journey.
It's a JRPG but with apes. SPOILERS... ... It opens with a group of (monkey) teenagers in the middle of a quest to get the thing for the big coming of age ceremony only to come into contact with a forbidden thing which leads to the destruction of their home town and a quest for revenge which involves taking down an evil empire to prevent them from getting their hands on ancient super technology from a lost civilization.
I think Andy Serkis gets too much credit and the animators’ contributions are dismissed. Cesar and his performance are a collaboration between lots of artists not just Serkis. Although if you ask Serkis it’s just him.
Serkis gets a lot of credit because he also started a company that does the motion capture. And he works hard to make sure that it looks natural. He is involved in a large part of the character. But of course it takes a team and many people to pull it off. I have no desire to see the new Gollum movie they announced but I am partly intrigued to see what Serkis can do as a director with it.
Motion capture is very different to traditional animation though. Andy Serkis actually did all of the facial expressions, body language, movements etc. It essentially is him in a high tech ape suit.
I haven't actually seen any of the Planet of the Apes movies (I've seen about half an hour of the original Heston film but nodded off, forgive me it was after a 10 hour shift). What's a good place to start in the newer ones?
The first of the trilogy is where to start. The one with James Franco. Third one was a bit of a disappointment to me but others like it. Edit: It's called "Rise of the planet of the Apes"
Rise and Dawn are Great films. When you watch WAR, don't let the name fool you. It's not a tradition war movie but more of an internal battle within Ceasar. It's a good movie if your invested into Ceasars story or more of a story focus movie goer you'll like the film. As a War action film, it's a bit of a let down. However i would still recommend to watch to to complete the journey.
@@CactusInsane I still watch it when I marathon the trilogy. I love a good character driven story. Taxi Driver is a great example of this. But it just didnt work for War. Especially being a direct follow up of Dawn.
I just don't understand destroying a little village without killing all military aged men! OK Noa escaped barely with his life, but his young friends are still alive? It's not a way to control a population that you have pillaged you would just leave maybe old women and children but got rid of anyone who could gain control.
Woke media is more than just social justice moralizing. I has an incredible heavy handedness to it and is the focus of the media, not a good story or characters or respect for existing material. I am fine with Left politics in media as long as it complements the story, not when it thrashes it to bits.
I JUST watched the 2010s PotA remakes, and was surprised to find that I _loved_ them! The concept was something _new_ that I hadn’t seen before, and Fringy is right, Serkis’s performance as Caesar was _phenomenal_ and SO moving. I just watched Kingdom last night… and I would rate it a 3.5 out of 5. It was a fun one-time-watch adventure movie, an enjoyable theater experience, but nothing _special_ like Dawn, Rise, and War were. I felt like Dawn introduced a fascinating NEW concept that was really _well done._ I felt like Rise was a really smart and meaningful “next chapter”. And I felt that War was a great conclusion to Caesar’s story. I cried when he died! But I didn’t feel like there was anything new in Kingdom. It was predictable. And worse than that, one of the best parts of Serkis’s performance in Dawn, Rise, and War was the _incredible_ animation of his facial expressions. Every little expression was captured, and it made me absolutely invested in his character and moved by his every emotion. I felt like that was lacking in Kingdom. They just weren’t as… Expressive. Which is sad.
I think this trilogy is the most underrated storytelling film experience I can remember. They are solid, confident films. I'd agree they didn't move the cultural needle as they should've, but that doesn't take away from their intrinsic value.
I actually think that Planet of the Apes is maybe most underapreciated current franchise. Those movies has good ratings in general, but not that much of a recognition for its actual worth. And Kingdom is a great new addition. I wish more franchises would get that much of a care in its making, concetrating on telling actual good story, modernizing and honoring original film(s) at the same time and not pissing on them. This could be another interesting trilogy, if it gets greenlighted.
The original series back in the Seventies was driven by a love of the franchise by the people making it and actual viewer demand for more apes. Battle for the Planet of the Apes drove a stake through its heart by being so bad, but even after that there was the live action TV show and the animated series (Return to the Planet of the Apes) plus all the comics. It's one of the most loved film franchises of all time. Where's the enthusiasm for the new series? I didn't even know this new film was coming out, and if I had I wouldn't have known where it slotted into the series. I watched the first of the modern movies and despite the effects it had nothing to add to the mythology; it was just a retread.
I loved the new Trilogy -- GREAT! I really liked Kingdom - it had to make room for new world-building, different concepts bringing things full circle, VFX (especially around the eyes greatly improved). Dull? I wouldn't say that at all. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I feel like the trailer made me think it was going to be more epic. The story still feels small scale. I think there should of been a massive kingdom of apes with proximus as the king.
@@Charlestouchdown Exactly. Apart from RMB, it's clear that all of these guests - sorry Drinker, you too in this case - are clueless about Planet Of The Apes, especially the Aussie sidekick of Mauler.
I saw Kingdom today. I was surprised at how good it was. I really wasn't expecting much, it is a film about pre historical, none technology Apes. But I enjoyed it.
5 more films to go then. The apes are still not as evolved as they were in the original so they still some ways to go. My guess would be this trilogy will be about Noah and the last 3 films will be the original astronauts storyline.
I'm assuming by nine films they are including the first 3 already? I think ending this trilogy with a remake of the Original would be best, and then explore something new in the final 3 where the Astronauts influence leads to interesting new things, or perhaps just explore a more futuristic sci-fi era in this world.
I would say it’s good, not great. The VFX are good, the villain Proximus was actually pretty interesting, I just wanted to see more of him. The 2nd quarter of the film definitely dragged. Felt like too much of a set up for a sequel. Still, I’m intrigued to see where the series goes next.
I grew up watching the original 5 Apes movies and liked all of them (except for Beneath, tbh). The remake was honestly one of first ones I saw, always thought it was kinda mid, but the makeup effects peaked then. The reboot Trilogy was SO GOOD, through and through. I want to see this new one, but with little hopes it could match the previous Trilogy.
I have a great nostalgic love for the original Planet of the Apes movies; scared the crap out of me as a kid. I especially love the first one with Heston. In the originals there is always tension between the past history of man and the current history of the apes. And that because hatred was never resolved it ends in destruction with discovery of the mutants and their atomic bomb God. It was a tragedy.
Disputable. I think it's more accurate to say that these are leading up to a remake of the original. The original timeline had no virus and a terminator style causality loop.
@@slang1517 Wes Ball, Director of Kingdom - exact quote: "In my mind if we had our choice, we wouldn’t go back and remake the 1968 version, we would build all the way up to it then start over, just go back and watch [the] '68 version and the franchise through." This was also the case when they created RISE. The Serkis trilogy would act as a new "Prime" origin that will eventuate ultimately with the world of the 1968 movie. In mine, and other Classic Apes fans mind, all the original sequels from BENEATH onward still work, since the Ape-onauts in ESCAPE altered the timeline when they came back in time to 1973, causing the Ape Revolution to happen much earlier in history than originally recorded, with Baby Milo becoming CAESAR. The original Classic movie sequels can easily therefore be seen as taking place in this Alternate Timeline.
@@liokaizer1662 I see how it could lead up to the the 68 movie, and that is how I interpreted Rise. However, in Escape, Cornelius mentioned the cat and dogs dying, and the ape servants, even though he came directly from the 68 timeline. The virus also changes things. Were all the astronauts immune? Were all the modern humans in Escape immune? Personally, I want to see a remake of 68, maybe with a more advanced ape society as was originally intended.
@@slang1517 As a kid I always envisioned that it was the Ape-onauts who had inadvertantly brought back the virus that decimated the domesticated animals, and also on some level had a mutagenic effect on the other apes of the time period ( speculation ). I really do NOT want a remake, but I'm sure it WILL happen...I just don't want them to get there too soon. I'd like to see the rise of the Mutants ( the bunker dwelling humans from 'Beneath', whose precursors were the Alpha-Omega battalions in WAR. I'd love it if this new trilogy goes there, rather than giving a hopeful chance to humanity as seen in the latest film.
@@liokaizer1662 I'm waiting for the mutants. The virus could explain their enhanced mental abilities. I'd be happy to scrub Escape, as it has a plothole where Cornelius already knew humans were dominant. Kingdom didn't really set up much and I thought it was disappointing.
Well you know that the spaceship with the astronauts (Taylor) was launched in the first movie of the new franchise rise of the planet of the apes so kingdom is set three hundred years after that and the spaceship returns two thousand years later, so there's still a long way to go. 😂
Kingdom is a good film, I actually prefer the first half to the last half. It gradually builds the lore and story. I think if the trailer got you pumped and you're looking for Proximus to be a big part then you will be disappointed. Where it falls down, I think, is the final act where everything is set up for Noah to be like Caesar in Rise and become a leader of the ape kingdom but instead they go down the typical action film "squad of pals go into mysterious place to find a mcguffin" plot.
Wow, so you've missed the entirety of the new series. 'Rise of the planet of the apes' with Andy Serkis and James Franco was the first in a new series, unrelated to all the previous movies. It was followed by 'Dawn of the planet of the apes' and 'War of the Planet of the apes.' These three movies collectively form the Caesar trilogy, which I highly recommend. The new one is supposed to be the first of a new trilogy, set 300 years after the Caesar trilogy.
Never have considered myself a PotA fan, though I’ve seen all of the films. I was dragged to a showing of Kingdom with the absolute intention of disliking it (I pretty much watch all current films defensively), and came away surprised by how much I enjoyed it., all in all. While it could move slowly at certain points (dozed off briefly towards the end), it was refreshing to watch a film that wasn’t trying its hardest to sUbVeRt my ExPeCtAtIoNs. It’s not an adrenaline blockbuster, nor is it a philosophical tour de force-but it was earnest in its own way.
The first reboot set up a callback to the Heston movie by featuring a blurb about a mission to Space. Maybe wanted to avoid the Marky Mark association.
The reboot trilogy was just SO good that Kingdom really has big shoes to fill. Youre doing yourself a real disservice by not watching the reboot trilogy. Caesar and Koba are two of the best characters we've seen in this century. Rise is a decent movie but Dawn and War are truly GOOD films.
So the big question is does this series tie into the tim Burton reboot, and if so at which point do they replace the Lincoln monument with a giant monkey?
the new ape movie is mid , rush the story a bit even when it is a 2hr long movie, dont really get enough time to explore the characters, there are interesting idea in this movie, like the apes wanting to build a kingdom like the human did ,the possible rise and return of humanity , and can the human and apes coexit or even can they trust each other...but the execution is not done well it feel like a chunk of the movie got cut, it is doing the mystery box to set up plots for the next movie. amother flaw of this movie is that now most of the apes can just talk, so it cant really do the first movie moment when caeser say NO, in the trilogy it is hard for the apes to talk, so in the new moive when the ape speak are less impactfully
Watched it last night. Good movie. His direction was different than Matt Reeves, obviously, but it’s a new tone that is welcome for the new era it takes place in.
9:05 In Serkis' campaign to get nominated for the Oscars as an actor for the CGI roles he was involved in, he proceeded to trash and completely ignore all the VFX people who worked on it. Most of the animation in the characters Serkis has worked with had to be done from scratch by animators. It isn't true and has never been true that the motion capture process just grabs whatever Serkis is doing in set and translates it to the CGI character. Animators at a minimum had to retouch it and more often than not had to do the animation from scratch just using what Serkis did in set as reference. It's so disappointing to see how effective Serkis' propaganda campaign has been that to this day people are still repeating this nonsense that he should have gotten an Oscar. No he shouldn't have, unless he has to share it with everyone who made the performance possible. And the argument I always hear from people who won't know anything about animation is comparing it to editing, makeup, lighting, etc. when those departments/people do not actually create performances, whereas animators literally do.
Rod Serling made the Twilight zone. Arguably the best sci-fi series to appear up until that point. Maybe the best series of all time. And he took everything he learned from it and he rolled it into Planet of the Apes. The best Sci-fi writer director of all time at the peak of his game. And the result was Planet of the Apes. And then he left. And everything has been an echo of an echo of an echo since. I mean I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the people trying to make the movie now. But Rod Serling was like Shakespeare and these guys are like me. It's just never even going to be close.
If you want Shakespeare and apes, the Caesar Trilogy of PotA movies is right up your alley, especially _Dawn._ Beautiful, character-based movies with plenty of pathos.

Much will be said of the special effects, which are astonishing-consistent, intricate, and excellent.
dude it blew
It wasn't an awful movie, but I felt a lot of my interest was only held with mild mystery aspects like "what's up with this girl who talks and has clothes" then "what is her plan". None of that really makes sense though because she's there through the movie but then has an objective to get into this bunker. The more you think about her character the more she's just there to be whatever the movie needed.

It's all of the same writers from the Caesar trilogy.
@@nicholastaylor9687 It has the same producers, but not the same writers or directors. I am aware that two of the producers, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa did the first two movies, while someone else did the 3rd film, but they're only the producers in this one.
There's some stuff to enjoy in there but I think more stuff will begin to bug you on repeat viewings.

Thank you Drinker for pointing out that the original Planet of the Apes sequels were mostly shit.
Beneath and Conquest were most definitely not shit. Conquest tackles some heavy, heavy themes.
of their time and different when watching as a kid
@@mousemetal1679 What’s absurd about the plot? Man lands in a strange environment after being in space, on a mission to find another planet. Man only knows that he is 3,000+ years into his future. Man then learns a shocking truth that upends HIS entire existence. There’s nothing absurd there, especially considering the fact that it’s science fiction. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Kingdom takes place 300 years after the last movie

It was that damned gutsy
Now, I do love the reboots (they've been the most successful reboots of this current pack of them), but Disney/Fox should've resisted the temptation to do this new one.
We enjoyed it. Not perfect but not boring for us. Some plot holes for sure. But what film doesn't.
I was very disappointed. Not a good start to a new trilogy.
Humans were not needed. Same as transformers having silly humans.
True but it's still a good movie with many interesting aspects and the cinematography is top notch.
@@asellandrofacchio7263 Agreed. Having finally seen it, I can wholeheartedly say that I enjoyed it. Was it on par with Dawn, or War? No. But it didn't have to be. It was a great adventure movie, and it stuck to the basics of the Hero's Journey.

Anyway yeah, 8/10 movie.. absolute banger

I just don't understand destroying a little village without killing all military aged men! OK Noa escaped barely with his life, but his young friends are still alive? It's not a way to control a population that you have pillaged you would just leave maybe old women and children but got rid of anyone who could gain control.
They wanted slaves. Humans were too dumb to enslave in the movies. That's why they used electric shocks. Plus it's designed for mid teenagers.
I liked Kingdom a lot and am excited to watch it again. Caesar is an all time great character, but I think Noa is a solid protagonist also
Loved all three, heard good things about Kingdom, hoping it’s good!
Watched it last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I really liked the film. Yes it has some pacing issues, but the characters, story, and villain were top notch

These are not remakes, they are PREQUELS. Everything will lead up eventually ( in 1700 years ) to the timeframe of the 1968 Classic.
Disputable. I think it's more accurate to say that these are leading up to a remake of the original. The original timeline had no virus and a terminator style causality loop.
@@slang1517 Wes Ball, Director of Kingdom - exact quote: "In my mind if we had our choice, we wouldn’t go back and remake the 1968 version, we would build all the way up to it then start over, just go back and watch [the] '68 version and the franchise through."
This was also the case when they created RISE.
To each their own, never could not be bored with it.
I felt the same about Noah n the new Ceasar there was a lot they can do with that
How many of these Fn movies do they have now?Last one i saw had Mark Walhberg
Wow, so you've missed the entirety of the new series. 'Rise of the planet of the apes' with Andy Serkis and James Franco was the first in a new series, unrelated to all the previous movies. It was followed by 'Dawn of the planet of the apes' and 'War of the Planet of the apes.' These three movies collectively form the Caesar trilogy, which I highly recommend. The new one is supposed to be the first of a new trilogy, set 300 years after the Caesar trilogy.
I feel like there will be humans coming down from space in the next one, with other humans living underground.
For a second there I thought you might be reviewing the excellent Frank Grillo series, Kingdom
Kingdom was a great film. As good as the previous ones. Cant wait for the sequels to this series.
The original Planet of the Apes was a brilliant satire.
Koba is a great villain.
"The city of the country of the people that existed in that one place"
Great movie title.
the new ape movie is mid , rush the story a bit even when it is a 2hr long movie, dont really get enough time to explore the characters, there are interesting idea in this movie, like the apes wanting to build a kingdom like the human did ,the possible rise and return of humanity , and can the human and apes coexit or even can they trust each other...but the execution is not done well
it feel like a chunk of the movie got cut, it is doing the mystery box to set up plots for the next movie. amother flaw of this movie is that now most of the apes can just talk, so it cant really do the first movie moment when caeser say NO, in the trilogy it is hard for the apes to talk, so in the new moive when the ape speak are less impactfully
Concerningly, this movie comes from the director of of the upcoming Zelda film.
Watched it last night. Good movie. His direction was different than Matt Reeves, obviously, but it’s a new tone that is welcome for the new era it takes place in.
Nice to see Fringy 🍻cheers
I’ll be seeing it later today.
I loved it! I thought, "This is what movies should be!"
TRUE
Rod's script has been adapted into a comic. 👍
If you want Shakespeare and apes, the Caesar Trilogy of PotA movies is right up your alley, especially _Dawn._ Beautiful, character-based movies with plenty of pathos.
