That one black girl wearing straight af hair while telling a white girl she can't wear braids. 💀💀💀😭😭😭
Exactly what I was thinking 😭
You can’t point that out to hypocrites.
and, at least the white girl has real hair
Those are the hypocritical kweens
They'll call it oppression that white people push them to straighten their hair
Her Biggest Mistake was asking permission for anything. NEVER placate the mob.
Especially on tiktok. Of ALL the platforms, it's the one I'd most expect to see this amount of outrage in the responses. 🙄🙃
Word
She asked for the content and attention & everyone gave it to her
Yeh it's like a big sign saying "Here is someone you can manipulate and feel accomplished doing it!"
fr she did that to herself. looking like a fool asking permission to do wtf she wants to do with HER hair. crazy.
LOL, this madness is only a USA thing. Here, in Europe black girls from Africa voluntarily do braids on white women. I have long red hair and they ask me every time to braid it, even a male collegue of mine asked me to let my hair to be braided by his mom, who is a pro. Here black women are happy to share their talents and culture and white women are happy to share theirs and to celebrate together.
I was thinking the same thing cause in South Africa, a white woman was filming herself being braided and a lot of South African women complimented her.😕
That's bc our government constantly tries to promote violence and racism so they can control. People are ignorant sheep and fall forit all.
Same in Brasil
It never used to be an issue in america. The whole hair thing is a new modern day thing. Is that started in the 2020s. I come from a mixed race family and hair was never a race issue when I was growing up. It just wasn't. Wasn't even thought of.
The problem, as it _always_ does in situations like this, lies with the enablers. Why would you ask such a ridiculous question. As if you need the internet’s approval to do what you want with your own hair, and as if you don’t know that. America has more than its fair share of white saviorists, and it’s revolting.
The only mistake this girl made was asking people that are terminally online if a hairstyle is acceptable.
Why on earth did she have to ask permission? Screw that!
I have to question her motivation in asking on tiktok. Does she just want to kick off some controversy for views? Hope I'm not being too cynical, don't really know much about tiktok.
Black women put a lot of different products in their hair to make it manageable for box braids. Most of these women start their box braids from the roots to their ears. Then they add extensions to exaggerate the extend the length of hair.
American Privilege: Gate-keeping braids. Nobody owns braids OR dreadlocks.
Did you know hair discrimination act was recently just passed?
Imagine certain groups just recently being able to be free from being punished for their natural hair.
When you belong to such a group, it's understandable why certain people react emotionally when you see members of those same oppressive group now being celebrated as 'edgy and radical' when they wear your traditional hair.
I have no skin in this game, I'm purely looking at it from a psychological perspective.
@@FAVanguardit's already been illegal to discriminate based on race for a while. If a hair thing was specifically only a thing for that race, that would mean they're already being discriminated against, and a new law restricting discrimination based on "hair" would be for optics only. Almost like it was never about hairstyle.... 🤔
Rest assured: ancient chinese dreadlocks and viking braids can be wore by anyone.
I was just going to write that!

@@tammy6610 Ikr, the double standards for a fricking braided hair style are crazy. I am black myself and I always thought the argument about braids having a lot of history was dumb because saying it shouldn't be worn by white people and people of other races is just dumb. Most of us black girls wear braid because they are cute not because of its history at all. So silly people have to explain themselves for this. The double standard is crazy, just my only complain about white people when they wear braids is to make sure it won't yank out, your hair, and to be very careful like the lady said in the video as it can lead to bald spots.
Romans and Egyptians, Celtic and Aztec - it’s always been black and white using braids lol

The blacks who are saying only blacks own the hairstyle aka braids = IGNORANT
Go study world culture and pick up some general knowledge.
Braids aren’t just part of your culture. The first time I saw braids? Mongolian ladies in period dramas and documentaries. Yea. Not black.
I'm french, Irish, German, American (basically a bunch of different races mixed into 1) and native American, to be specific I'm from the Iowa tribe and I don't even know what my grandpa is because he was adopted. A lot of those backgrounds had braids, so some people need to understand a SINGLE race DOES NOT own any hair style or trend or any of that. Egyptions actually started doing braids first which puts black and white people in the wrong with this. Doing braids has been adopted into many cultures which gives everyone a right to do what they please with their hair and body, it doesn't matter what anyone says or thinks about how you dress or look

How the hell did they find a way to get mad at the girl for literally saying “it’s so beautiful I want to wear it and I’m asking permission” SHE LITERALLY APPRECIATED IT AND EVERYTHING 💀
Braids are not even unique to black culture… the big scary Norse wore them routinely

Very true! I’m in my early 30’s and I can’t believe how racially divided everything is currently. Hard to believe that this is the current state of the country.
Why would she ask permission. I had braids on vacation in the Caribbean and didn't ask anyone because I do what I want and no one owns a hairstyle.
It's legit something the ladies in the Caribbean do for people coming off cruise ships. People are wild!
Same! I was 12 and my family went on a vacation to celebrate my great grandmother’s birthday and my sister and I got braids by some local ladies. Nothing bad happened to our hair though. Maybe it’s because we just got our hair braided (no extensions or anything just our own hair braided very tightly). Maybe it’s because we actually have pretty curly hair. 🤷🏻♀️😊

Not just braids, but specifically "corn rows". To denote power and status.
See y’all are talking only about braids with no added hair. When we talk about braids we mean box braids, knotless braids, Senegalese twist, rope twist, cornrows, Marley twist, boho braids etc. That would mean if I want hip length knotless it is my hair with 26 inch 1b expression kanekolon hair or if I want Marley twist I would by kinky hair or Marley twist hair. Y’all don’t do that only black folks so this argument of yours is not even on the same page as to what we mean.
@@Bibitiebabitiebooactually I have been told a lot that braids as a whole are “black culture” despite other cultures having them as well so while that may be what you’re referring to, that’s not always the argument that gets thrown at us.

I am from Romania, an eastern Europe country. Until 1989 we were under communism and we had no TVs and no news from outside the country. My grandmother and grand-grandmother had braids all the time and were part of our culture and our family as well... so I am having a hard time understanding how these hairstyles are attributed to only one race/culture.

@Anna-fw7lm Hindus too, the God Shiva has dreads. The celts too, the Roman's when describing them said they had hair like snakes. A lot of Native American tribes also traditionally wore braids. Ancient Roam and Greek also worse braided styles Etc. Etc.
Haven't you heard? They say black ppl can wear blonde wigs because "some blacks have naturally blonde hair." They are being facetious with that bit of data. Black ppl with blonde hair are part of aboriginal tribes and that blonde hair is usually very brassy color (nearly orange) and very kinky/tight curled. So, no, straight platinum blonde wigs is NOT based in reality.
As a white girl who loves to try new hairstyles, including box braids, cornrows, feed in braids etc, i have never had trouble in person wearing braids out in public, least not to my face. And never damaged my hair because i purposely dont leave them in for as long or overly tighten my grip. I even had many girls of all colors ask me to braid there hair cause they see me wear them. I do what i want end of story.
The vikings also had braids, they were white. People need to stop asking and just do their hair how they want.
Viking braids are thousands of years old. Funny they look just like box braids. I don’t care that other cultures steal blonde and red hair or wear blue contacts but if you scream at this white woman then don’t do the same thing to other races. How is admiring something a micro aggression? Braids are universal and have been from the dawn of time. Nobody owns styles.
Also, ancient chinese are famous for their dreadlocks (I'm commenting this everywhere 'cause a lot of people here don't seem to know)
Blonde hair is not exclusive to Whites. So Pacific Black pacific islanders, without ever being mixed with Europeans have blonde hair. Same for red hair, although pretty rare. But who cares, it's one's head and hair and they get to decide themselves.

"nara braids" or correctly, box braids are culture. please find me a caucasian in history wearing anything close to the style she was referring to. you can't because as some point our history our hair was considered unruly and we were forced to straighten it. us wearing straight now is completely a choice and a sign of freedom. nothing something i expect you to ever understand.

7:51 The irony of saying this while imitating straight (white/asian) hair is funny to me. 😂😂
Just like braids don't belong to a specific race or culture, neither does straight hair. That's the point here. That NO hairstyle, type, or texture belongs to a specific race or culture of people. There are African people with naturally straight hair. There are Islanders with naturally straight hair. There are Europeans with naturally curly, coily, kinky hair. It's hair. It's not a racial/cultural identifier.
@@thickerthanyourmomschesthair I understand that. I am saying her logic is not internally consistent.

If thats the case then no more Dutch braids and blonde hair for black people then! Honestly, thinking hair is racist is pathetic.
Blonde hair doesn't belong to white people, though. There are dark skinned people with naturally blonde hair in the world. I think it's the indigenous people of the Solomon Islands. They have naturally blonde hair and no European DNA.
I agree with you about the Dutch braids, however. I just think your reasoning about blonde hair is flawed. The point being, I guess, that no hair type, texture, or style belongs to a specific race or culture, and it's racist to think so.

i’m wondering if black people even know what they mean when they say racist stuff. they always toss around the term /phrases like it means nothing but in reality it does. i was 15 when all this race stuff started a couple years back and it did affect me. now it’s just pissing me off lol
Amala you don't worry what others think of yourself. I've been getting my cornrows since I was 16. And it has damaged my hair. But I love them.
I have a news flash for anyone who thinks braids are a culturally black hair style, not only is that not true, but it's also not even just a human thing either, there is some evidence that Neanderthals, as well as other human cousins and possibly even our own ancestral species braided their hair, so "hair braiding" is just part of who we are as humans! There is archeological evidence that every culture and ethnicity on earth has or had braiding present in it, so if you have hair don't ask permission to braid it, just do it, it's your right as a human to do so!
If this is the standard then I better not see another black with stark blonde colored hair............ever.
I had a black college roommate in 2003 who did my hip-length white girl hair in box braids and no one even blinked. It was a fun thing to do and it was fun to wear for awhile and not one single person on campus ever said a thing about it being racist. But... 2003 was a different time I guess.
Late 90s-mid 00s are the era of nu metal, everyone has deadlock or braids, guys from Korn,Incubus singer,Slipknot,P.o.d
Back in the 80's and 90's most white girls I know and seen did the Braids as well and no one said anything
These young people have been brainwashed to complain about everything and make everything racial. It’s sickening.
I cannot imagine a woman of any other generation asking permission to style her hair however she wants. This culture is weird.
3:39 I just love you girl how supportive you are and how you see the real things in life
The way she said she wanted the braids for a long time and how she adored them and thought they were beautiful and people still got mad 😭
Ppl even will claim fetishization.
@@desiree5895 hm? Wdym by that
I'm fkn ASIAN and wore locs a few times! I never got anything but compliments especially from Black people! This was also 10 years ago when people weren't so woke.
Same happened with me. Black guys didn’t care when I did it or when other girls did it. Only the black girls. Some. Not all.
Or stupid😂
Yeah Asian not white
@@kaizatengoku3893 are you saying Asians can wear braids but white people cant? Why is that?
@@kaizatengoku3893but I thought they were meant for black people, asian isn’t black, so what now, exactly you just hold a prejudice towards white people and let anyone else have braids but white people
I wore braids in high school just to try it out. No one cared. This was back in 80s when people were normal
I could listen to Amala talk all day her voice is very soothing
Don't female MMA/UFC fighters have their hair braided just not have their hair in their eyes? 🤨🤨🤔
Still racist
@@gtjtr0how? They aren’t wearing them out of disrespect they are wearing them because they see the value in that style of braiding.
@@meganjaime7728while I agree with you, there's no such thing as hair being disrespectful lmao.
@@frankcaggiano8282 What I meant was that they aren’t choosing the hairstyle to be disrespectful to the culture that the style came from. Does that make more sense? 😄😊I realize I wasn’t super clear in my previous turn of phrase oops!😬
@@meganjaime7728 fair enough! I definitely agree with that haha
My boyfriend and I were both fired from a job because he complimented a black women’s hair. He has super curly hair and hers was similar. I wasn’t even in the room when it happened and I was fired because I was with him. He was truly being genuine and nice even other customers were shocked by her being offended and sided with him. Three days later he’s fired and told to tell me I’m also fired.
Literally sue those people please.
Seriously?!! 🤬How is this not wrongful termination? That's BS!!
You should be getting yourself, and himm, a lawyer. I'm sure someone would take iton for free.
Just reading this pisses me off. Makes me think of that cow that was asking if her getting a compliment from her co-worker was her being nice or if it was a micro aggression 💀
Lmaooo, you’re lying. You’re definitely lying. There’s no way it happened exactly like that and then he just got fired and then you did too
Girl shouldn't "ask permission". She opened herself up to the woke bullshit on that one. Just do it.
I'm glad to live in Europe. I have used a similar hairstyle before as a child for practicality, especially during the summer, and to courl my hair and no one told me one I was being racist. I still put my hair in two braids many times because I like it and no one saw it as appropriation. We have even black people here who encourage us to braid their hair in vacation spots as a part of the experience and they do it themselves. I think all those people yelling racism or appropriation in cases like this are totally divisive. Should I say the same when a black people straighten their hair? Because it's a "white" hairstyle, because it's ridiculous.
As a Brazilian, “cultural appropriation” also exists in Brazil, but it's worse, because it doesn't make any sense here, all people in Brazil are extremely diverse in our ethnicity. It's even normal for a Brazilian to have blood from 2 or 3 nations such as: Portuguese, Italians, Africans, Spanish, Japanese and etc
But you all Brazilians... it's the same culture now 😅
My white looking butt did braids with beads everytime I went to Latin Countries. I loved it. This conversation is so ridiculous. America is supposed to be a melting pot of all the best things but instead of taking that as a compliment we take it as an insult. It's annoying.
No one owns anything. We are all just surviving on a little planet floating in space. 😉
8:52 Love the mocking synopsis. Excellently put.
liked within the first 30 seconds bc of that intro 😂😂 love this.
"Bone straight sew in!" Yes!! Exactly! Hypocrisy at its finest!
So years ago one of my black male coworkers braided a black female coworkers hair and he did an amazing job! As I was gushing to him about how great it looked I said, "I wish I could get my hair done like that, its so beautiful I really like the box braids. " and he looked so confused at me and said, "well why can't you?" I looked back at him equalu confused and said, "cause I'm white?" He laughed and said thats the silliest thing hes ever heard of and whenever I wanted to get my hair done let him know and he'd do it for me. I haven't been brave enought to do it yet cause of the backlash but anytime we see eachother he offeres his services.
How sweet!
I find that black men are often way more polite and accepting than black women are.
As a 67 year old white woman I think black braids are beautiful. Do I want them or would I have wanted them when I was younger? No, because I would have thought they looked weird on me. I'm comfortable with my hair. But no one owns a hairstyle. That is just crazy. Do what you want with your hair and don't ask permission. It's no one's business but your own.
I can't believe that of everything that happens in the black community we choose this to be outraged about 😔.
🤣 The beginning made me high key worried LMFAO you’re literally the best Amala ❤😂
Right? Haha, thought we lost her for a second.
The only mistake the white girl made was asking for permission. You don't need permission. It's your F'n hair!!
God forbid anyone take interest in cultures other than their own.
The only thing this girl did wrong was going on the Internets to ask _permission_ to do what she wants with HER OWN HAIR!!!! 🤯😑🤦🏻♀️
I relate to her 😭 when I was in elementary school I begged my mom(who said no) to get box braids because my friend had them and thought they were so pretty
I feel bad for younger you. I always thought box braids were so pretty too, especially goddess locks😭
Why can’t we just be a “ you do you boo” culture 🤦♀️ 🫰
That's us sane ppl but we don't yell and fuss about it like the other crowd 🙄
Funny how when a non muslim woman visits a militant muslim country, she's forced to cover her head. Why isn't that appropriation? 🤔
Somehow, someway, your comment will also be inappropriate to them. That's the culture they want.
So sick of the “cultural/race” baiting that is going on. Can’t we appreciate everything we give to one another and see it as it is a form of flattery.
Honestly if this controversy happened over at Instagram reels these women who think they own that hairstyle would get cooked and roasted
That intro was epic 🤣😂🤣
It’s a 55 year old white female and I had dreadlocks to my waist for two years. Cut them off , got a weave , wear wigs etc. I absolutely love to experiment with my hair. I never had one person approach/ confront me about cultural appropriation. I figured if I was going to be confronted, judged, frowned upon, I’m going to wear my hair the way I want!!!! It’s a hairstyle people! Currently wearing a short blonde buzz cut.
And as a black person I love to see that. How is someone doing the same hairstyle as you hateful? If anything it’s admiration, I would love it if someone looked at my hair and said “I want mine like that, it’s so beautiful” . In a way, the way that us black people reacted to the girls video shows just how far we have came in terms of overcoming racism, when our communities biggest problem is a white girl saying she likes our hair and wants to do it the same 😂
Braided hair is SO Scandinavian. They need to get over themselves.
I’m definitely getting box braids just because now!
This is exactly why i watch you!
I saw that post and responded. Most people said it would break her hair because of the weight and many white girls lost their hair from braids. I told her braid it with no fake hair. And add something for frizz and get something for the ends so they don’t get undone. But I think think she took it down.
Sharing why it is not beneficial for very to do this is real respect displayed among women. As someone with LONG, stick straight fine hair I know this style long term is damaging.
This is an old story. She did suffer hair breakage and had to cut her hair. She did a follow-up TikTok, as I recall, and took her mistake in stride. There is a YT channel where a hairstylist does B women's hair. I was very surprised at how many of her customers have damaged hair and are bald to the top of their heads. Many look like a darker version of Benjamin Franklin as far as their natural hairline goes. Whether it is from genetics or braid fatigue, I don't know, but I feel for the women if its genetics.
I seen black folks complain about braids breaking their hair off as well. It’s not a race things some people have weak hair and fragile sensitive scalp. My hair loves braids fortunately. It makes my hair grow quick.
They were probably talking about that white girl that chopped her hair after taking braids out because she thought it caused hair loss but in reality it was actually just a bunch of hair that fell out naturally while she had the braids in but were still in the braids. We lose about 100 hairs a day, so I imagine she was shocked when she saw 100x how ever many days she had them in, worth of hair coming out. It doesn't actually matter if your white or black, if you do it too tight or have heavy weave in, it's gonna damage the hair.
@@katyasehryn8810 It is damaging for any one to wear tight styles long term, regardless of skin colour.
Well, Vikings wore braids more like cornrows and not box braids so people should be careful about throwing out the phrase “ cultural appropriation “. A friend of mine went to the Caribbean for her honeymoon and there were ladies at the beach asking to braid hair for like $15…
Yup. American problems. I had friends that went to the Caribbean as well and they wanted to braid their hair. People elsewhere don’t get bothered over mundane things. Americans have nothing better to do and some just want to stay mad and have control over others.
Cornrows originated in Africa.
I also think it’s ridiculous to claim a non black women shouldn’t wear braids tho.
I'm white, the black girls in my school always loved to braid my hair. Box braids, micro braids, all of it. I have EXTREMELY thick, curly, and coarse hair, I just happen to be white. There was never any hate or appropriation crap, this is ridiculous
Black people just like to complain, no pleasing them
Ámala is the only one who’s keeping it a 💯 huge respect for her
Who told people they get to control how other people wear their hair? Like who do you think you are??? The Queen of hair???
So the slavic people, thr mexican/latino people cannot use their own hairstyles??
Lmao ikr
Her only mistake was asking for permission
Funny enough, Africans that coined the hairstyle itself, don’t even gatekeep the hairstyle at all.
Lizzo needs to use that energy at the gym!!!!
