Is it worth buying this repurposed machine? Or just spend the extra on an M3 Air?
I'm a web developer and has M1 with 16GB of rams and I can tell you that this is a beast until now and I always use it in lower power mode 😂😂😂😂😂.
The only mistake I did is having it 256GB of storage, but since it's my working machine and used for work only, that's totally fine. I think if someone creates content can still use it but he/she must have super fast external SSD and you will be good for many years.
@@mohammedramadan3480 why is 256GB ssd a mistake for you?
is it because you need more storage or more transfer speed?
I'm only using 80GB of ssd on my previous 128GB SSD model and I'm really hesitating whether it's worth upgrading to 256GB or extra money for 512GB , knowing that I'll be using it for a long time.
I have an M1 base Mac mini with 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, but use an external 4TB SSD as the Home drive. Functions as the “headquarters” computer. I figure an M1 MBA with the same base specs would make sense as a work computer as all family photos, etc. are stationed at headquarters.
shameful clickbait tittle, waste of everyone time.
For routine use by the average consumer, the machine is an absolute beast - there's no other word for it. Nobody needs an M3 unless they're doing some heavy-duty video editing, and I think Apple is aware of this . . . hence the expansion into the lower-range consumer market.
Absolutely cheap clickbait strategy. Misleading title.
What do you mean? It is written 699,-
@@oliverzoelke4776
He changed it apparently
Relax dude. I think you will survive.
@@oliverzoelke4776 I meant that the tile clearly is trying to instate that Apple launched a new MacBook for 699 dollar, but it's clearly not the case.
@@douglasolson675 that's not the point dude, these kind of tactics should not be ignored. It needs to be pointed out to the creators.
It's a $700 laptop, not a $600. $699 is closer to $700 than $600.
M1 macbook air is still good laptop in that price
@@MuhammadUsman-ix6joVERY GOOD LAPTOP
Someone: Misspoke.
You: Well I must rant about it!
relax dude, its going to be okay.
Bestbuy has the M1 for $649.99 for the next couple of days.
If Apple really was listening to us, the consumers, they would increase the base RAM and lower upgrade costs on RAM and SSD. Just saying.
lol, got the first MBA and would put it the same envelope from our inter mail. Loved to carry that in my briefcase and pull it out at meetings. Loved the look on the faces of everyone. But it was a dog in performance but I loved it. Back in the day most had the super thick Dells.
Actually it's really smooth though it's not good on number, on any use cases I believe, except gaming, in which Apple don't focus on. Used it since 2022 for programming (hobby), work with cloud apps, and have never faced an issue.
If you directly compare the Apple RAM prices, you just simply doing the same like you compare the HDD price with SSD price..
Just to reach the 400GB/s transfer speed what M2/M3 Max laptops have, you need 8 channels DDR5, and PCIe 8.0 x16 slot for the GPU to plug.. just show me any laptop with this spec (so with 8 RAM slots, and also has a PCIe 8.0 x16 slot on it).
Becaude the current PCIe 4.0 x16 slot where you plug your GPU has 32GB/s limit.. compare that with the 400GB/s the diff is 13x.. so the same like you compare the HDD with 150MB/s to a SSD with 3400MB/s, the diff there are also 13x.. so guess do they have the same price in the same size..?)
amen
yes and they will give a vip seat to you in the donut as well
Be honest with your titles please. 🙏
This should be considered false advertising. I think UA-cam should take this video down for misinformation. Extremely bad job naming this video
Bought an M1 macbook air for $749 last year, this computer should last me another 3 years minimum. Does everything I need and does it pretty fast with a gorgeous screen. I highly recommend it!
I don't know your m1 MBA specs. but here in Germany you can already find the MBA M1 with 8GB and 256GB for only 400€... that's a bargain.

Then I realized that she hadn't done a software update in five years 😅 so I updated it and it works great again! Here's to another year or two hopefully before I have to buy a new one 😂
The manilla envelope was brilliant marketing.
It’s my opinion that the original M1 MacBook Air base model is more than sufficient for the vast majority of the people using Mac’s. The small percent of people that NEED higher end Macs is pretty small.
The question is, how long will it get software support?
@@maureed159 this is a fair question. And I agree that it’s something that should be considered when purchasing a new Mac. Something to think about is that Apple is selling these M1 brand new through Walmart. Because of this, I expect that it valid lifespan may be several more years. it’s hard to know for sure, but when you’re buying a budget MacBook, I think it’s an acceptable risk.
To much click bait on this channel 😒

The 2015 base 11" MacBook Air was 4gb / 128gb SSD
@@stevesretroloftdidn’t know that ! I got my first Apple product ever in 2021 (m1 MacBook Air)
Until I think 2020 the base model was 8/128. And before that 4/128
Also software hasn’t become that much more demanding ram wise
@@chidorirasenganz yeah that’s my point
Nice. But how do i buy that outside USA?
I’m still running the M1 8/256 and it’s 3 years old from date purchased and i feel no need to upgrade. I’m a video DJ and i record my sets. I sometimes wish i had 16 gigs of Ram. But it doesn’t seem to stop me for recording. I just close down all unused apps and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and i get it done. Thanks to apples M1 chip. Love my MacBook Air M1 still have over 10 hours of battery l still have 92% in the health. Hard drive is not lowering life on my ssd is still at 98% and i don’t even turn it off ever. It was terrible ! Waited 7 minutes to hear something that contradicts video title. I live in the depths of Europe, What does this Walmart have to do with me ? Here the base model M1 is still around $1000.
the rest of the world doesn't exist to americans
Are these in stores already?
M1 MacBook Air is still king, the best laptop of the decade in all aspects
Of the decade? In ALL aspects? Ok then.
@@blinblinthing do you have another suggestion? Feel free to share it dude
@@SaiyanJin85 it's not the best for gaming, and with a 10 year range range, and that laptop being 3 years old, I can likely find someone, something cheaper, especially since it's $400 to get 512gb and 16 gb ram.
@@blinblinthing Gaming wise yes, it's not the best obviously but we already know that, but for $650 you say you can find a laptop with better battery, screen, keyboard, noise, thermals? I don't think you can find a better overall laptop in that price range...
@@SaiyanJin85 maybe not for $650, I'll give you that.
But plenty of people don't need a color accurate screen, don't use a laptop in a long enough interval to notice the batter life, or care about the noise and thermals.
They are going to notice the price and their basic needs. $400 can get people a good laptop.
We’ve got 2 m1 airs in this household. Great computer for a family doing bill pay, budgeting and stuff like that.
I still miss the 12 Inch Baby MacBook
@@cameronbosch1213 it almost works in the iPad with Magic Keyboard already
The 12 inch MacBook was junk ... failing SSD's, failing USB c port,

@Max Tech How long will Apple support these M1 Macbook Airs bought new in 2024 regarding their operating system and security updates in comparison to a M3 Macbook Air? Will the M1 Macbook Air bought new in 2024 get 4 years less updates than a new M3 Macbook Air? Thanks in advance for any replies.

How long will they support it though
Help me plz… Hey i wanted to ask you what do you think of Alogic Clarity 27” monitor. As i wanted to buy one monitor for my Mac book m3 max. And my second option is dell U2723QE. Can you help me select a monitor under a budget of 1k Australian dollars. Plz help me guys
I loved my M1 AIr until I broke it. Then I upgraded to the M1 14" Pro at a really good sale. The Air was really light, small and compact, easy to carry around, battery lasted forever, great machine. I actually miss it. I upgraded to the 14" Pro Base model mainly for the XDR screen quality. Only downfall to the M1 Air, being that it is almost 4 years old, is you may only get 3 more years of Mac OS updates. Apple tends to stop supporting OS updates after 7 years, but I still have a 2013 MBP 15" that works fine even on the older OS.
I think with the m chips that will extend to 10 years or so just because its in house.. they tend to support phone models for a long time and the architecture for m1/m2 is about the same m3 was the first leap going to 3nm ... so m1 should get updates for the next 4-6 years minimum
If they're still actively manufacturing the M1 Air-and not simply burning through remaining stock-I would think the clock for end-of-support would not start until the model is truly terminated.
I bought my wife, the rose gold M1 MacBook Air, a few years ago for Christmas, and I have to say it’s been one of the best computers we’ve ever had. We use it to this day, and it’s performance is perfect for online schooling, teaching, making spreadsheets and lesson plans. She plays games, and the trackpad and keyboard screen speakers are perfect. I do wish there were more ports, but we have never really needed them anyway so they were just fine. And when I need to hook it up to a big monitor, that’s very easy to do
You bought your wife?
😂😂😂 @@emarskineel
Still love my rose gold M1 MacBook Air. It's a great machine even after 3.5 years. I consider buying a new one, when they bring this gorgeous color back.
It’s literally copper not rose. I have it and I never perceive it as rose gold. I’ve seen the rose gold and it’s not close ..
I watched the envelope Jobs keynote on the very first iPhone in the UA-cam app, that I just purchased in Las Vegas a week earlier - and ended up with the first gen MacBook Air and got hooked.
How long will these new old-models be supported by OS upgrades?
I read that the MacBook Air M1 will not be supported beyond 2026. Yes a great laptop, but as with all Apple products, obsolescence is built in.
@@ronduxbury7014 I would expect longer. I only replaced my 2012 iMac six months ago and my 2010 MacBook Pro is next on the list. Both still work fine even though they don't support the latest versions of some apps. If all I needed them for was word processing, I'd still be using them. I retired my 2008 MacBook about four years ago. Still, I got a good run from it until I bought the second-hand 2010 MacBook Pro in 2017.
The idea that the $699 MacBook is simply an original M1 MacBook air sold at a huge discount but only available in Walmart is very bad news for me living in the UK. M1 MacBook Airs are never available in the UK for less than £829.
m1 air with 16gigs or m3 with 8gigs?
A friend was still using an 11 year old MBP, 5 kids he didn't want to spend a ton and was still able to do what he needed on his old one is planing on getting one of these. It will be so much faster than his old one I know he will be amazed.
So now that this is available at this price, how do you think this will effect the sales of the Mac Mini? Even though the available Mac Minis have newer chips do you think this will inspire some to get this instead?
$699 is not "$600" man
This be be at $599 Fall of 2024
Even for a 4yo laptop, at $700 this is still a good laptop for a student. Best battery life you can get at that price and still plenty of power for most schoolwork.
It’s not the best deal out there compared to something like the HP Pavilion Plus or the Ryzen Zenbook 14. But still an easy recommendation for anyone that like MacOS and is just looking for basic computing.
I still have a mac mini from 2012 that works great. You can live a while whitout updates.
I bought my M1 Air in 2020. Great machine. As a teacher, I use it for grading, emails, putting together and displaying presentations, and the occasional video project using Final Cut, or audio project using logic to entertain the creative side in me 😊
I just got 5is for a work computer. I’m so excited because my company agreed to the cost and Apple is my go to and it’s so much easier to use. I got myself the updated 13 M2 air for personal use, my first M series chip for personal use.
Where can you get this for that price in europa?
When is Mac mini M3 coming out?
Not surprised. I think I suggested this on one of your vids a few months ago. Outstanding!!
I do hope one day they'll make a proper 12" ultralight MacBook. It has the potential to be substantially smaller and lighter than the M1/2/3 Air and still be usable (as long as it has Apple silicon). Until then we'll have to do with the M1 Air.
so if it's only available through wallmart, it will not be available in europe?
I'm done watching his videos , he's always click baiting
I am still using my 2020 M1 MacBook Air, that I purchased with my Covid money. It is still working great and I’ve not had any issues. I also have an M2 Mac mini, which is nice, but really, isn’t that much faster than my MacBook Air for the task that I perform on it.
Back then I simply didn't understand how they made these products, first iPhone and MacBook Air - it was all CNC'd 'unibody', but they were yet to disclose this, I was just, how did they make this, my Lenovo laptop consisted of hundreds of mechanical parts vs Apple's one
Thanks for the info. I was looking for an iPad price range MacBook for my wife and this one might fit the bill. Now I don’t have to go the used MacBook route.
I want a 12” macbook with an m3
older intel macbook pro (including 15, and even 16 inch) prices dropped drastically shortly after apple silicon started dominating the laptop market. i bought a buffed up late 2013 15" about 2 years ago for under $200 which would suffice for an average user for years to come, and is even still capable of pro work.
the used market has been overflowing even with m1 so much so that you can find a mac mini probably for $200 at this point. the only difference between your "new" computer and a used one is a few months of usage.
they have the same strategy with old models of iphone, is common in south america see 3 years models, brand new in the stores
The Apple Ecosystem in 2010 was superior and super strong. It is that good, that I still use most of those devices till today. I type this on a MacBook Pro 17' from 2010 with all upgrades that still runs very strong. Heavy lifting is still done on my Mac Pro 5.1 from 2012. Unbelievable great tech. I am sure the M1 Air would be a great improvement, but I am still great with what I have.
This is the best approach, it is very expensive to come out with a new design. The air 13 is marvelous. Im still blown away by its size and power. I wish in the future they improve the screen and offer higher RAM and ssd storage. But to those that have this device since 2020, get ready for one of the longest supported devices apple ever made.
Thats the beauty here. If these sell in big numbers, Apple can likely tweak the individual components without much retooling or retaining. A Higher Res Display, More efficient processor, improved batteries etc can likely be swapped-in. Everything is getting more compact. Compared to an iPhone, the MBA case is huge. Costs stay down and Apple can continue to sell these thru Walmart and show the DoJ that they are "team players" 😉 ...... BTW, Yep.....the ENTIRE Apple Silicon line will have OS Support for ages and ages.....
Sounds like a good budget deal. But the only concern is update support.
still has 4-6 years minimum left and will still get security updates for 5-8 years
I think they did the same for the 13 inch macbook pro m2 with best buy, with a 24gb ram 1tb storage configuration for $1300 when I got it. Traded my m2 air for it. The spec bump for the price after trade was a no brainer.
I still like my M1, we use it everyday. For what we use it for no need for more performance. The screen is fantastic, the feel of the keyboard, the sound is very good, it's light too. Only thing is, in Europe we don't have BestBuy.
Thanks to your channel, I purchased mine in 2021 and it is still outstanding!
For the average user it is still more than they need.
Value for money is its killer feature! And it is silent!!!
I bought a refurbished M1 from Apple for $849 three years ago.
Traded it in last month on an on-sale 15" M2 from Best Buy, and got $525 for the trade.
These are just great devices at great prices.
watching on m1 air.the speakers are the best i have heard in any other laptop other then other macs
My wife bought a base M1 MacBook when it came out, and it has suited her needs fine. I bought a base M1 MB Pro 16/512, and it suited my needs better. I needed the storage, ports and extra ram. I haven’t needed any more speed.
It will be interesting to see if/when they sell it in other markets like here in Australia what the price will be… maybe $999???
Would be great to have them sell them instores. Most Apple computers at Walmart are only online. If these were instore, it would help the college students nearby in my little town since the closest store that is tech related is over 20 miles away and Walmart is basically our only store here. Lol. (Ps. In our store the only computers we have are dell/hp chromebooks, one desktop, and some basic cheap windows laptops from acer, hp, asus, and dell. All would be fine for typing projects and researching online but would show down with editing and software programs. )
Smart way to introduce new users. I use an M1 Pro still for heavy video editing and code development. Still don’t need to upgrade
I was so confused when I saw it I just thought that they were trying to get rid of all the stock by selling it so cheap I am glad they still are selling hoping to upgrade from 2017 Air
Thanks for the great information! I didn’t realize Apple sold at Walmart! I think it’s a fantastic ingenious solution as well.
I bought a Gold M1 Air when they dropped to the incredible price of $799 but $699 is just insanely incredible. Gold, the Classic tapered design, and it smokes my 2018 quad i7 Pro.
If Apple makes Macbook 12 on m2 or on m3 keeping it same thin and compact even with the same one type c port. Imma buy it the same day
The original IPA is a still a great machine. Other than storage and memory it is more premium than any laptop available. It's a 3 lb fanless laptop that can effectively edit 4k video for the entirety of 16hr flight!
Does this mean the m1 will have more years of software upgrades?
MacBook Air SE? lol Thinking of getting one for my other half. The old one is a 2012 MacBook Pro that was updated to max out RAM and added a 500GB SSD. The M1 MBA will have much better battery to start... ha!.... not to mention much less lag!
That 2012 MBP is still a great machine. Just bought one for $150 refurbed on eBay to watch old phonics and other educational dvd with my 3 yo son, with the intention of using it as a backup laptop for my other son to do homework on.
The screen isn’t great, and the battery life is about 4 hours, but it has MagSafe, hdmi port, SD slot, a great keyboard and it’s built like a tank. It’s everything my old 2010 MacBook wanted to be when it grew up (sold it years and years ago, but was a quality laptop for its day).
I don’t think I would love that ‘12 MBP as my main laptop, but the thing is still respectable for light use and unreal for what I paid.
Oh, as a backup or for kids, definitely. But as a daily driver for someone, not the best choice! Definitely a solid machine though.
I think people forget how powerful the M1 chip is. It can still plow through intensive tasks (like LOTS of Logic audio plugins!) WAY faster and more efficiently than its predecessors. Love this computer.
Finally. My phone can just be a entertainment device. If only I could use chat and messages better in this. And have better battery life
M3 air power saving mode vs M1 air standard power mode would be interesting video
I have a M1 Air with a 1Tb drive and I suspect it will last for many years.
I actually prefer that shape to the current one. I'm a lover of the MacBook Retina. If they came out with a new version of that with an A series processor, I'd buy it immediately. I may get an M1 for travel even.
Macbook Air 11 2015 with 8Go was the best laptop I've ever had.
I actually love this idea cause every town in America basically has a Walmart. Not every town has an Apple Store, Best Buy, etc to go to get a MBA or MBP. Grant it, in my particular case, I have a local Best Buy but not an Apple Store. But, if I can go to my local Walmart 5 miles down the road and buy it without having to fight with “mall traffic” that’s a win for me. I know right now they probably aren’t going to be available in store but, I would think eventually they will be.
The issue that I have with the M1 MacBook Air and M1 MacBook Pro is that flexgate-like problems are showing up in these models. I have a 2021 M1 Pro MacBook Pro and I expect that they fixed it with the new case design. I have not run into anyone with similar problems on those models nor on the M2 Airs. So I don't recommend the M1 13.3 models. I personally prefer larger screens but there are times when the 16 is too big and heavy.
flexgate? so ur r sitting on it?
I have M1 Air and I love it. It's 3 years old now and I could say it's pretty good value to buy it for $699 brand new. But if you buy now opt for 16GB RAM.
This is genius! This is like luxury clothing brands collaborating with Budget conscious stores to provide clothing for those with limited budgets.
We got ours in Dec. for $750 and we love it. Does everything we need and does it well. For $699 is a no brainer for any workaday user. Certainly better than any equivalent Windows laptop.
Apple's strategy here makes a ton of sense for all the reasons you describe. I'm a college professor, and lots of students have crappy Windows computers simply because that's all they can afford. Going forward, more students will be able to afford a M1 MBA, which is still a high-quality machine and a great entry-point into the world of Macs.
Personally, I would LOVE to see the 12" Macbook come back, powered by M2 or even M1, with a magic not butterfly keyboard. I would buy that in a minute.
I bought my folks an M1 Macbook Air for $800 when the M2 models first came out and they are still loving it.
If I ever get tired of lugging my 15" MBA around, maybe I'll pick up a cheap M1 MBA for travel. (It's really that hard to travel with the 15" MBA tho.)
Thanks for the video!
love thje videos with some historical context, keep em up
I definitely recommend the m1 but if you can wait till the holidays the newer design m2 MacBook Air will be on sale for 899-999 and the design alone is worth it screen and chases is more durable.
I have bought and sold many an M1 MacBook Air. Used to be able to flip them for pretty good profit. Now it’s hard to get people on Facebook marketplace to pay 500 for them. And I mean good ones with low battery cycles. People don’t know how good these Machines are. I had a heckuva time selling an upgraded 512 GB one for 650 but with perseverance I finally did after putting it on craigslist. Still would love to pounce on them if I could find them for 400 which I probably could talk some people down to that but it’s just so hard flipping them now, it probably wouldn’t be worth it. Wouldn’t be worth the time and effort.
I like to buy 2019 MacBook Pro 16 inch good use.
But lots of youtube reviewer and folks make this machine out of stock and overprice .
If any deal less than $459 for this machine available please share us.😅
I just bought yesterday, and am loving it! Walmart 699 + tax
This is a spectacular deal. I spent double that amount on a PowerBook 165 in 1994.
So its not "Now here!" ... it's still just a handful of random rumors... got it... clickbait
really annoyed with the 'well it's for people who want to browse the web and emails' type of command no the m1 is still a very powerful machine you can do quite heavy work on. For me it's a music production machine I use professionally, and it's largely enough. Besides the perf difference with the m3 is not that huge. Now there's a huge resale market as I suppose this discount will not be available outside of the US
Exactly. You can do anything on an any of the Mac’s now. The only difference is how fast do you want to render and export your work.
the people that limit the capabilities of their device to web browsing and emails should just get a cheap used ipad with a Bluetooth keyboard.
The a base m1 air still scores way more than the maxed out intel 16” MacBook Pro 2019..
Thats still a good laptop and being able to get it new for 700bucks is even better. It just should be 16GB/512GB out the box
I'm still waiting for an M1, M2 or M3 12 inch Macbook... Meanwhile, I have upgraded my 2016 model with a new battery and a 2017 motherboard (faster CPU, more RAM), and I will keep on using it for as long as possible, alongside my M1 Macbook Air, my 2015 15 inch Macbook Pro and a bunch of Linux PCs.
Both my daughter and I have the M1 air, and absolutely no complaints! Amazing value, and performance
*Costco has the Macbook Air for $649.97 For the Space Grey and We clearanced out the Rose Gold for $500 for the M1*
The battery life on the M1 Air may no longer be shockingly impressive, but it's still *good* and most likely a fair bit better than whatever else you'd get at that price.
NGL, I don't know what it was about that M1 Macbook Air, but my experience with subsequent Macbook Pro iterations (M1 Pro/ M2 Max) wasn't quite an enjoyable experience as it was with the Air.
The XElite chip must be an amazing chip. If apple a company that does not give discounts can allow the sale of one of their iconic laptops to be sold at a $300 discount in order to capture the market before the rival launches their product in laptops is kind of smart.
They have done it before. iphone 11 is still available in shops. I think it is safe to say they aren't still running down stock so they must be still making them.
what about UK & Europe , do we get a 699 MacBook ?
Probably cost +100€ extra money
Correction, Walmart stores have actually sold MacBooks in the past.
Also, fun fact, Im not sure if it was a mistake in the system, but my local store actually had the space gray version of this mac book in $200 👀
Plenty of M1 MacBook airs in the Uk Apple refurbished store for £759
It makes me happy knowing Apple will continue to make and sell the base model M1 MacBook Air. I've been using mine every day for over two years and still have no urge to upgrade. When the 16 GB/500GB M3 Air is available new for under $1000 then maybe I'll start thinking about it.
Problem is the inability to option is with 16GB from Walmart. A $900 16GB MacBook would be very nice.
Got 2 years from a G5 tower, got 14 years from a 13 inch Macbook pro, got 14 years from a 27 inch iMac and a Mac mini used for home theatre. Around 4 years from several iPhones, when the battery dies I just buy a new one. The SE gen 2 died 3 yrs from a hardware fault, probably dropped too many times. Now on a Studio and a 2018 mini used for the home theatre. All in all I thought they were good buys. G5 was rubbish but as usual its luck of the draw. If I bought the extended warranty all would have been fine.
Also a ton of people in small town USA buy their iPad and Apple Watches at Wal-mart so it makes sense for Wal-Mart to have at least 1 Mac on Display as well. I know my cousin has bought herself and her husband every iPad they have owned from Wal-Mart simply because its on display there.
