His imperfections is the main reason why he became the best frontman/showman. He is not conscious if he will have an off note or cracks, he will just go with the flow. Freddie taught us a lesson, do not pretend, let them see the flaws, the imperfections, be natural and people will love you and never forget you.
So right the true legend.
And what a lot of people don't appreciate about this 20-minute set, is the fact that this was not a Queen concert as an event in itself but Queen (collectively) did such a great set, they blew everyone else away! A truly magnificent moment in history that will never be repeated nor bettered!
It warms my heart to see young people appreciating the BEST BAND EVER!!!! There will NEVER be another FREDDIE MERCURY 😢

First song was "Bohemian Rhapsody", second was "Radio Ga Ga", then "Ay Oh", third was "Hammer to Fall", fourth "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", least but not last "We Will Rock You" and final song was "We Are the Champions".
Queen's Live Aid concert was such an epic performance!
Queen doesn't cover other bands' songs. Other bands cover Queen.
They sometimes did some old timey Rock n'Roll stuff, though, live. For example, at Wembley '86, they did "Baby I don't care" by Elvis, "Hello Mary Lou" by Gene Pitney and "Tutti Frutti" by Little Richard. In the early 70s, you could see them live doing "Big Spender" (Shirley Bassey) for example. Not unheard of, but more a thing to mix things up at a two hour show. @@fryke I was mainly referring to the songs on their albums. I could be wrong, but I don't think they ever had any cover tunes on any of their albums. I'm sure any song they DID cover was excellent also.

@@cl8onj388 It was a Christmas party concert AFAIK. They had blow-up sex dolls the audience bumped about (like balloons on other shows) ... I guess some nights with Queen were more crazy than others. ;)

Good to see you laughing throughout (as well as being in awe of the talent) - Freddie was very funny and Queen was often deliberately tongue-in-cheek, camp and gloriously over-the-top.
Freddie wrote Crazy Little Thing Called Love as a tribute to Elvis, and of course sang it in the Elvis style cause Freddie could do anything!!

He said the title Hammer to fall before he began to sing this...crazy little thing called love was written by freddie, he told that its about 5-10mins. while taking a bath he thought of it then ask for a guitar after then headed to the studio to record..brian also added that it was almost finish when he came to finalize the guitar solo..check out the recent vids at queen official they just released..
@@tomas22432 That is true, Elvis had that very baritone voice, so he does have a lot of impersonators. I would say the impressive thing is that Freddie wrote a new song, he didn't do an Elvis cover, and people immediately think it is an Elvis song. In truth Freddie's voice is not that similar to Elvis, even on this song, it is more about the style.

I adore watching Live Aid over and over again, matter of fact I caught it 85 Live Aid of Queen when it first aired! Queen is my ALL time fave group they don't make bands like this anymore (everything is perfected in the studio) At least w/Queen what you heard was always LIVE! Freddie is having so much fun on stage I love his smile & his playful side, he has the audience in the palm of his hands. BEST FRONT MAN EVER! HE WAS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS LOOKING!

Silly thing to state music these days isn't as good because they perfect it in the studio. When queen themselves did exactly that, only with the technology they had at their disposal back then.

At least 5 times a day.
I'm disabled, so I have a lot of time on my hands.
Then I listen to ALL the rest of their songs at least twice a day.

The thing about QUeen's quitars is that Brian Built that damned thing as a teenager with his dad, so he knows it inside and out (literally), then Deacy (on the base) made a thing they cally the "Deacy Amp) that ads a uniuqe sound to Brian's sound. Add to that Freddie and Brian pretty much managed to sing together with voice and Guiatar.... you get the Unique Queen sound

At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded by the full horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of many terrible memories I have from 34 years of active service, and 2 years hospitalisation. But when I remember the smiles on the children's faces, and their laughter at the terrible way we danced always reminds me that humanity will always find it's way through even the worst of times. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears. My amazing Wife took me to see Queen at Wembley, U.K., in 1986 two weeks after I got back from Ethiopia as a surprise. I saw Queen live 6 times in all, they were incredible live. And yes, I am an old fart.

That call-and-response bit he does with the crowd was a staple of Queen concerts.
It is nice that a lot of people were exposed to Queen because of the movie. But hopefully people know that there was a lot of fiction involved in the lead up to Live Aid. Queen had just finished their very successful Work's tour 5 weeks before Live Aid, were they played for over 400k people in Brazil. They were a well oiled machine, and they had more experience then most of the others when it comes to playing stadiums.
Yes a lot of fiction right through the movie and people who haven't been Queen fans for many years tend to believe the movie

The Status Quo reference was because they were the opening act and were considered 'old' by some people in the 80's as they'd been on the music scene since the 60's. Freddie's doctor told him not to perform or risk permanent damage to his singing voice. But give Freddie a challenge, and he rises to the top. I've never seen another person or band command an audience like Freddie and Queen. I'm sure every band has a couple of songs everyone knows and sings along to, but you mentioned many bands having Freddie's control over an audience. I'd love to see other ftontmen/women who do a call and response, or clap and raise arms when Freddie says,"everbody"! Please show those concerts, I'd love to see it. Oh, and this was not a Queen audience. Queen was added to the bill after all the tickets had been sold. So it's actually more impressive what Freddie could do with an audience that didn't come to see Queen! Lovely reaction, thanks!

Yes ive seen that interview...please check out the interviews with his PA peter who replaced paul prenter, the traitor, his closest friends and of course queen past interviews in order to learn more..its great watching those interviews, just so you won't be mislead of saying something you dont know...
Although stadium concerts are common place now, and there have been other performers who have demonstrated a command of the audience, Queen was the first act to fill stadiums for their concerts and the first to encourage the audience to be part of the performance. NO ONE has ever come close to Freddie in his ability to engage the audience.

Like I've said to other reactor's, Queen was a late edition to the program. You are seeing 70+ thousand there, another 90+ thousand in Philadelphia PLUS over 1.2 BILLION around the world! Watched this when I was 30 and it still gives me goosebumps every time I see it! Do yourself a favour and watch the documentaries about how this event came about. The day rock 'n roll brought the world together.
Queen was a stadium band, every other group were concerned mostly with filling arenas.

For context: This concert was simulcast in the U.S., the U.K and all around the world. During Radio Gaga, 80,000-90,000 people in the U.K... and nearly the same number in the U.S. and countless more in stadiums and watching on TV around the world were ALL clapping in unison... AMAZING!

RAZ63 also during Crazy Little Thing that beautiful guitar of Freddie’s started screeching and wouldn’t stop. They’ve wiped that awful sound from the videos but I think that’s why he lifts it over his head like he wants to smash it but thinks better of it. Great control of his temper. ❤️🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Name of the song as Freddie said before it starts Hammer to Fall. One of the few songs of Queen that became dated to a certain extent. It was about the cold war going hot. Nuclear war. But it has become fairly current again in recent times. Queen never did covers. Freddie in later years would solo the best known of which is Great Pretender. If you want to hear something very different look for Barcelona, which he wrote.

that's what the band and Freddie Mercury wanted most of all is to have audience participation they loved it. Not a rumour...freddie and brian told it in a separate interview...you may check the studio verse/mtv of queen, freddie wore black jacket no mustache yet....queen sang their own songs of course, even all of performers at live aid...
As many have commented they eere asked to do Is This the World We Created at the end of the show. Its just Freddie & Brian with his 12 string. It’ a beautiful performance & they were asked to do it specifically bc it’s theme was so relevant to the concert.
You get a copyright strike it you upload Is This The World We Created, from Live Aid. You can post the one from Wembley, for example, but you cannot post the Live Aid version.

70,000 people at Wembley Stadium...and I would've loved to have been there. Lots of acts at that daylong event, but, Queen stole the show that day.
Freddie truly loved the audience and performrd with such joy that spread to everyone who is within hearing range. I don't think the film captured his charisma and that joyous love for performing, but Rami did a good job in the film

Crazy Little Thing Called Love (written in 1979) is a Queen song. According to Brian May, originally they would've recorded this in a regular Queen style, but Freddie Mercury wanted the song to be a tribute to the King (who died 2 years earlier), hence, the Elvis-Presley-Styled-Original-Queen song, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"

I have just finally watched the movie a couple of weeks ago and I can't get enough!! I have literally watched it several times since then and watched the First Reactions from numerous YT people, and have watched the side by side comparison of Freddie at Live Aid, vs. Rami in the movie countless times!!
Same here ! Well not until now saw the live aid lol but I think the movie was very well made. And I'm so glad they made it because even though not everything is down to a T its bring new audiences to Queen's music and not letting that music stay in the past .

When Freddie goes on stage he carries a mic in one hand the audience in the other.
Queen didn't mess around, they came out said "We will rock you" then proceeded to do exactly that.
This video is a masterclass in how to be a showman and Freddie was the ultimate showman, This is Music as it should be no Autotune no backing tracks just sheer talent.
Last month Australia held a Live Aid contest to help with the devastation left by the forest fires. Queen recreated this exact set for that concert. Can you imagine - 35 years after the first live aid concert, they did it again. And with exactly the same crowd reaction. They're an amazing group, aren't they.
It is somewhat ridiculous to just copy the legendary Live Aid set again.
Queen and Queen+ Adam Lambert are not the same thing. Queen ended in 1991 and they did it just once.

Important to note this was not a Queen crowd ,it was live aid with multiple bands ,but as you can see Freddy and Queen had the crowd in the palm of their hands . Amazing !!!
Realize two things: This is considered the best concert performance in rock history, and seeing Queen live was 10 times better than watching a video.
yeah I bet it was! watching a video of their performance gives you an idea of what it was like. But you will never fully understand how it really felt to be there.
@@TinyMA Thanks. As you probably guessed, I am speaking from experience. I had a royal audience with Freddie, Brian, Roger, and John in November, 1978 at the Richfield Coliseum outside Cleveland, OH.
Wow that must of been an incredible experience! I'm a bit jealous haha. I'm someone that listen to what is consider classic rock so it really suck I will never be able to attend those concerts. But I love hear stories from people that did have that chance. 😊

I was 12. I grew up listening to queen. When the news came Freddie and the band were getting back together for live aid was major news for us. 10 miles from the stadium we gathered around the tv in our front room waiting for queen. Turns out, the volume wasn’t needed! Amazing memories ❤️

Hammer To Fall is that song. It was the huge hit from their album at the time Queen Works. That beautiful guitar ,The Red Special, is still Brian’s main instrument today. He and his Dad built it when Brian was a teen. He’s been using it on their Rhapsody Tour. Amazing. Now watch the same set done by Queen and Adam Lambert done at the FireFight charity concert in Australia. Wonderful.
