This lovely creature is completely overtaken and spent when she sings like that. It takes her some measure of time to pull herself together. You know she never sings a song she didn't live at some point in her life. I believe anyone who left her brokenhearted must regret it deeply. No matter what she sings, her soul is in it. Given to it. This song was writen in 1973 by a well known french singer : Serge Lama, and the music was writen by Alice Dona, an other french singer.
Loved your analogy: like she gives you her shoes to try on for a few minutes. That's it exactly. Lara Fabian does this very well. Now think about this: she has let us try them on many times. And each time feels exactly like the time before it. THAT is the mark of a true artiste, IMHO.

Thanks for reacting to this one, it's a favorite. I can't listen to it often - it's gorgeous, but just so devastating. On top of the emotion of the song, there's watching Lara with her high wire act of allowing JUST ENOUGH emotion, without allowing it to swamp her and interfere with her voice. If watching it is so difficult, I can't imagine what Lara is experiencing as she performs. It takes her awhile to come back at the end. This isn't a song a performer can snap back from quickly, and go into smiles as if she hadn't allowed herself to experience this pain for us as part of her art.

Yes, impossible to remain unmoved in front of this incredible performance of Lara, but also thanks to this song which is a jewel of the French song and which was written by Serge Lama (the first also to have sing it in 1973) and composed by Alice Dona. This song was written following a terrible heartbreak of the singer who fortunately find again the woman at the origin of these words so deep a little more than ten years after she left him. They had a child and stayed together until her death at the age of 71 (Serge Lama is now 78).
