Is sugar sand the white sand they use to make glass out of? We call it glass sand, we used to be able to go get some in certain places along the railroad track that got spilled from the train cars that were carrying it. I would like to grow mangoes but I live in Oklahoma in zone 7b and nowhere close to a tropical area so I will have to grow them in containers so I can move them inside in the winter. Thanks man
Amazing healthy mangos growth. I jealous your mangos yard. live in AZ state hot heat at 120 degree climate zone 9 -11 heavy clay soil with no humidity. Very hard to grow mango here. The heat will kill tropical trees, birds and bees. I give up buying expensive mangos trees. Now I try to grow them from seeds in a green house. It going to take 20 years to reach your 15 gal height. My mango is growing so slow. 3 year it reach 24 inches. I did everything right but they still end up dying.

What’s your recommendation, Carrie vs Mallika in a pot? Also, do you recommend using a drip tray under the pot? And why?

What kind of soil do you use and what do you mix into the soil besides wood ash, native sand, mulching and using fish emulsion? I’m a new person to gardening and I want to grow mango like you in a pot. I was told that it’s not possible to fruit mango in a pot where I live unless I can pot in a large ground which I don’t have the space to do so in a subtropical area. I’m stubborn so instead I bought 3 different kind of mango tree to try for my experiments to try and grow my own mango in a pot. Orlando Gardener what kind of soil would you recommend for someone that can’t get the native soil?...i am in tampa area but in a condo, so i can have the container mango tree just no access to soil from ground. also, what do you treat with if you have any pests? i had a baby mango before with tiny black bugs under the leaves, eventually all leaves turned spotty brown and tree died. i sprayed with a neem oil mix, but it didn’t help. also have had a problem with whiteflies with another container tree i had (avocado). not sure if the soil was the issue or what. all your trees are beautiful, i feel like i don’t have a green thumb, i have killed all the container trees i ever had :(
