I've had the Bosch gdx 18 V li for about 2 years, used every day and it has never let me down, stood up to being dropped from 6ft steps a few times to. Brilliant impact driver.
What is the largest battery you can use with it
Sir,I run a small cleaning and repair company here in London, covering Chelsea and South Kensington,my colleagues are usually asking me for equipment I know next to nothing about so a little bit of information, for an ignoramus like me,is invaluable particularly why a piece of kit is needed. Thanks again.
The GDX 18V EC isn't an impact wrench but an impact driver with a "special bit holder" that accept 1/2" sockets as well as 1/4 hex bits. This is how Bosch themselves describe it. Their actual wrenches have way more torque.
I have the 18v gdx ec wrench, absolutly love it. Undo plant trailer bolts. Absolutly brilliant tool cant fault it
The GDX 18 V-EC has three speed settings, low, medium and high. Well placed and easy to discover if you read the short manual that comes with the tool. The GDR 18 V-EC (same tool except hex only and not reviewed here) is the same.
Ice been using the Bosch impact driver /wrench for over a year and its brilliant, it does have speed control on the base along with a button to turn off the led light. And the bosch Warrenty is second to none. With a courier being sent out to pick up the tool and drop it off when it's done. I've changed all my tools to Bosch.
Been using my GDX 18v EC for about a year and a half now. It's pretty powerful but won't win any speed tests on long coach bolts and such - I've not had it fail to sink a bolt or screw or loosen a nut yet though and if you use an Eneracer or new ProCore battery I think you get an easy 10% increase in performance. It still intrigues people on site when you pop on a 21mm socket to move a scaffold putlog out the way or some such. They sort of double take when they notice you aren't using an adapter. I'm on the Bosch platform which is why I have it. It's been dropped (by others!!) from roofs a few times and is unscathed so a tough ol boot. Did think it'd feel more progressive in use so a bit disappointed but it does the job - continuously. Does have the odd dead trigger moment. It's been rare for me but others on the forum have noted it too. Colleagues have noticed it now and again with their Makitas too which makes me think it's an issue with current brushless technology. Talking of Makita, I still think that in use, day to day, their impact feels the more progressive. Love the lights on the GDX, the hex + 1/2" chuck combo and the Bosch batteries. Plenty of room for improvement from Bosch mind you.
thanks Zed Man and to you.
Late to the party but my two cents.
I've worked in Carpentry/trades for about 8 years now, my father did it for 25+ years. Growing up he quite the arrangement of tools over the years, jumping from brand to brand.
Every brand has its ups and downs, I have every brand on the van but I'm slowly switching anything battery to Bosch and even corded tools. I have just had really good luck with Bosch, none of my Bosch tools have broken. The other brands I have 2-3 tools each that are still going strong but a few that have died. I got some of the old gen ridgid which was amazing, milwakuee and dewalt. Hitachi as well. I got the Bosch impact wrench 4.0ah when it first came out and still use it at work everyday, I just bought the newest one with the Core18 batteries.
Where I am its cheaper to buy Bosch than the others. Since they also seem to last much longer it just makes sense. The only thing that might sway me is how fast other brands drive screws as that's a production +. The price and longevity just can't be beat for me.
What is the largest battery that can be used with the Bosch gdx 180 li?
Recently purchased the 12v Bosch. Works well for me but don't need anything bigger for the work I do. (Handyman)
I have stuck with Makita for years now for one simple reason, the cheap as chips ebay batteries that are as good as the genuine ones, all my corded stuff is Hilti, plumber by trade.
Good channel this, like your videos very much.
Thanks Dave
I am also a plumber/ We are thinking about doing something on after market batteries. Any information you have on them will be very helpful.
I use various Bosch 18v tools and half of my batteries are also the cheaper replicas off eBay. They work just fine. You can get replicas for all brands!
GREAT ...WE CANT WAIT FOR THE TEST...ESPECIALLY NOW THAT I SAW YOU HAVE THE HILTI ONE...!!!MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
You have different models than I have or see on the website? The lights are down by the battery attachment it seems inconvenient
Thank you can not wait to see what one could do better any how merry Christmas have a great one from pure diy maintenance
My issues are that I’ve been buying Bosch tools for about 25 years. Seems they have to change design every few years and change battery format then us old timers are screwed with tools and worn out battery’s. Now we buy everything all over again. Does DEWALT and Milwaukee do that?
Now on this impact driver, I have the latest version. Love it except I’ve sent it back for warranty repairs 2 times in 6 months. The 1/4” bits get hung up in the collet. You can’t pull the slip ring far enough to get it to release. They replace the gearbox. Ok for now but when it does it for the 3rd time I’m done. Sorry Bosch. Btw, I don’t use my driver much.
Was fabulous
Absolutely smashing video as always, Rodger. Very professional and well done. Looking forward to your final comprehensive analysis next video.
Thank you.
There is nothing professional to look at. I can do this kind of video all night long while I'm sleeping 😴
Great reviews on these impactors Roger. Merry xmas to you and your family
Germany tools the best quality , thanks good vídeo.
another great video keep it up
Another great video
Bosch GDX 18 V-EC impact wrench
I had this tool for 1 year at my work.
Very powerfull tool, very good light, the hex dosent usable for everyone (electricians).
the only disadvantage thet was on the tool its not abaling the bit holder go right in the chuck, unless you pull it.
ohhh and the round red rubber does peel of after a while.
Waiting for the final results for all of the tools.
what about the normal milwaukee impact it has way more guts then the surge, i have em both. they both have there uses but the surge will not do well in the full test
What is the largest battery that can be used with the Bosch gdx 180 li?
I have the gdr 12-110 and is everything i need for my job, also just bought the new gsr 12-15 fc 4 in 1 so I don’t need to carry the 18v wich is really heavy with me all the time (electrician)
put a dab of silicone sealant on the end of the screw to lubricate it, makes the batteries last longer, a trick from back in the day when we were all on Makita 9.6v long handle cordless, i still use one still a good drill.
This is a test to find the limitations. Adding lubricant to the screws is useful but it doesn't help the test.
Hi, thanks for that.
I own one of these, and I was wondering if there is a chuck attachment to enable it to do some simple drilling.
Cheers!
Yes- you just use a standard hex-bit. Then you can use any hexagonal-based bits- drill bits, screw bits etc
Anybody else had one of these that the bit holder stops holding bits in I’ve had 2 about 2 years each and they start to fall out and also they switch off for no reason for around 30 seconds
I've returned mine to Bosch, under warranty, about 4 times in 6 month till they got things figured out. Mine was holding bits and not releasing, then the last time I sent it in they were literally falling out and I was loosing them. It's been fixed for about a year now, no problem, I have no idea what was causing that problem
The IDH182 Impact Wrench/Driver hybrid has 3 speeds.
Liking the videos and information but could do without that god awful noise that is supposed to be music as a backing track.
Gave me a headache. Would like to see the new Milwaukee when it reaches our shores.
The impact driver/wrench hybrid sounds great but it must be slow, heavy or expensive or all three???
There must be a catch.
They don't have the torque of the dedicated wrenches that are more expensive. Its a do it all tool at good cost.
Unfortunately Bosch does not have time delays on their LED's
Fein Power Tools from Germany would beat all those drills. You add it in!
thanks for info mate : )
EC probably stands for electronic controlled, which is true for all brushless
Proper name is electronically commutated motors
Dave
Yes but what is that in German? Some bloody great long word that you have to take a run at.
its the exact same word
Electronisch Commutiert
Skill Builder brushless Motor in german would be Bürstenloser Motor. Not much difference. Greetings from a german follower :)
EC motors (Electronically Communicated) are brushless DC motors controlled by external electronics, either an electronic circuit board or variable-frequency drive. This provides greater control and higher efficiency.
Hey, are you going to include Ryobi in the test?
what happened to the 12 v ?
We will review it on its own. It got confusing. Sorry for that
@@SkillBuilder no you won't, it's been 3 years!
That Bosch Impact wrench with built in 1/4 drive would be THE tool...if it had at least 300Nm.
PERHAPS... NO FRIEND...BOSCH IDEA IS VERY CLEVER AS ALMOST ALL BOSCH IDEAS...BUT WHEN YOU HAVE VAST AMOUNT OF TORQUE WITH THE 1/2'' DRIVE ...HAVING A WHOLE IN THE MIDDLE PERHAPS WOULD LEAD TO RIGDIDITY PROBLEMS...!!!
AND THE ABSENCE OF SPEEDS IS NOT A MAJOR PROBLEM...ESPECIALLY WITH BOSCH...THEY HAVE PROBABLY THE MOST WELL CALIBRATED ADJUSTED AND SENSITIVE TRIGGERS ON THE MARKET..!!!!
That's a good point about the hole being the reason for the lower torque. The problem is it leaves Bosch without a compact torque wrench in their lineup powerful enough for automotive work.
The GDX 18V EC isn't sold as an impact wrench by Bosch. It's sold as an impact driver with a "special bit holder" (that allows you to fit 1/2" sockets). They do do dedicated impact wrenches and they have way more torque - as you'd expect.
@@shugthehornyhaggis Not a Bosch employee just a long time user pointing out the obvious: if the op wants 300nm of torque and a 1/2 fitting, get a dedicated impact wrench
@@shugthehornyhaggis just looked on you "Bosch make shit tools" vids. Couldn't find any comment by me. What's your agenda? Don't like their tools, don't buy em. I like em. The only brand I've never had a failure with - and I'm a full time chippy that also uses Festool, Mafell and Hilti tools. I know my onions. Tool's are my lively hood. I ain't no weekend warrior.
Less talking more testing please and describe while ur testing the tools that will be better
I was expecting actual benefits of the Drills but instead videos of screws being drilled, a little disappointing.
Your site should be telling us things we don’t know or could not easily find out, sorry, learnt nothing I did not already know.
They aren't drills. If you want videos on drills type drills into the search bar.
Urm where is the test and comparison. Very poor video
Actually you are totally wrong about being able to turn power up and down on the bosch impacts. Total fail but its hidden look at your lght switch a bit more closely lol
Will do. It is funny that they hide the features where everyone else makes them obvious.
Yep I'm still looking for it, no button or switch. I have two neither of which have a speed switch. The old impactor 25618 and the newer gdx18v 1800
your not a lover of bosch than ?
I think all power tool manufacturers excel in certain areas. Bosch hammers are great, some of their combi drills not so good. We had a track saw with a twisted base plate and heard about several more. I think maybe the quality control in China could be better
Not enough tool testing you put music over the testing don't like that and talk to much don't see the tests much don't like it
Gay music
Bosch is very stupid tool
Hi Rodger as a kitchen fitter I was wondering if the smaller 10.8 gun would be any use as I'm always trying to get into small awkward cabinets.love watching your videos as I can tell uv been in the "game" a long time 👍
Are you saying I am old? Yes you are right. I love those little 10.8 and 12 volt tools. As you can get 100Nm out of them there are not many screws a kitchen fitter needs to drive in that are more than that. Quite honestly a little scrape of a soap bar on the screw thread does more to reduct the required torque than anything so even if you are going into wall plugs you will find it is good. And if you have a decent combi drill you can use that for the big stuff.
