just think if all the actors/athletes that complain about the poverty of where they came from, and then demand the government do something about it. imagine if they actually did the same as Dolly and poured their millions into improving those areas to give people jobs. instead, they move far away and just complain publicly about it without putting any of their own money into the problem.

I'm a 70's rock guy too, but Dolly is one of the most talented entertainers ever. Singer, songwriter, musician, actress, she can do it all. And I've never heard anyone say a bad word about her. And her voice is something special, just gives me a good feeling hearing her sing or speak.

Growing up in Los Angeles, California, thankfully I had a dad who appreciated all genres of music. We heard EVERYTHING in our house. Dolly Parton was one of those wonderful forces of nature that welcomed in happily, and even helped to form my musical self. She has always been one to bring a smile to your face and peace into your heart. With or without music, Dolly is the perfect ambassador of humanity. Love her always.

In 1966 or 67 there was a musical show featuring Porter Wagner in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot Norton, Virginia. A lovely lady with a golden voice was introduced and this 10 year old boy was mesmerized. In 1968 I performed my first paid show and began a career that spanned five decades. Thank you Dolly Parton for the gentle touch and beaming smile you gave a young boy in a small town so long ago.
Where I grew up, we lived about 10 miles from town. We had an outside antennae my Dad mounted on a cream separator, that the controls ran inside the house. That way, you didn't have to go outside and turn the antennae by hand. We got 1 station, PBS. But on Saturday night, we could get the early Porter Wagoner Chuck Wagon show, with 15/16 yo Dolly. What a trip. I just thought of that. Lol. Many moons ago.
The lady who filmed this, Haroldine Worthington, worked in the office at Interstate Mechanical Contractors when I worked there from 1985-88. She lived on Cedar Lane in Fountain City. I never knew she did this.
Would have loved to had them edit this so there was a long section of just Dolly as part of the overall video. And just hearing her singing without all of the non stop commentary.
She has always been a all-time favorite of mine. She has apparently had that sweet voice since childhood. I hope she stays with us many more happy years yet.
talent like dolly"s only happens a few times in every generation. it is sorely missing today. i grew up listening to rock and roll, but i too love dolly. any one who wants to be a famous country singer should learn from her. she is the best.
I have always loved Dolly as long as back as I can remember and I'm 62 years old, Dolly has a special place in my heart and have always looked up to her.
What's so compelling to me is that Dolly still has that clarity of voice 60-plus years later. She cultivated and took care of her sound, her style, her "instrument", if you will. There are too many singers out there who let life in the fast lane take a toll on their talent, to the point they couldn't even perform that well as time wore on.
I remember seeing Dolly on The Porter Wagner Show and Cas Walker when I was a small child and visiting my grandparents. She always made quite an impression.

I was in a little Bluegrass band from Asheville, back in the 70's and we played Cas Walkers early morning radio show which aired live. Dolly's picture was on the wall and I thought she couldn't have been more than sixteen. She was a Natural Beauty.
back when I lived in Wheeling Wv. I remember a 17 year old unknown kid coming to town to play in the Capitol music hall. all the greats played there. anyway this 17 year old Tonya Tucker took the stage and blew em away

I saw Roy Orbison in 1963 in Eau Claire, WI at the local high school gym and Ricky Nelson in a surprise visit to a local dance hall in 1962. My brother was a sax player who was in the local band and backed up Ricky and later played back up for one gig for Bobby V.
My dad remembered seeing her on the Cas Walker show when she was about 12 or so. He said her voice reminded him of somebody playing a saw because of the quiver in her voice, probably due to nervousness. She’s come a long way since then; we love Dolly!💕

I was a wee baby when she started. lol Yes Dolly is a treasure, and when she helped so many families during the fires, Dolly is a genuine American treasure.

I lived in E. TN, Morristown, and Dandridge. I have great friends in Kodak, Sevierville, Morristown and Pigeon Forge. Used to drive by Dolly's parents' house to go into Pigeon Forge the back way to avoid the tourists. I'm from the UK and worked for BlueGreen resorts and was never more at home in my life. The beautiful countryside and scenery are exactly like N.Ireland, where my mother's family had a farm, and I helped every summer! I love E. TN as much as Ireland. And I have to say the gentleman with the hat and red tie is very Irish looking. And at the Christmas Inn in Pigeon Forge, I met Dolly's sister, Stella and other family members. Love Dolly. She even has a literacy and book club program in the UK where she is also very popular. Everyone loves Dolly!
We took vacations every summer to Knoxville, Tennessee where we had relatives. I remember seeing. Dolly on Cas Walker's TV show before she became famous.
When I spent the summers in Tennessee with my grandmother, we went grocery shopping at Cas Walker's grocery in Knoxville. I remember his tv commercials too.
