I'm French, I'm 30 years old and that's exactly what I did, I can live peacefully for less than €1k per month and only have to work 100 hours max per month to be able to save money.
I paid €6k for my car and a new motorcycle for €13k in cash, my insurance costs cost nothing and I can spend time riding or seeing my family.
I was just tired of having to work to pay for things that were of no use to me, I had a big apartment a sports car a new R1 that I didn't even use, Now that I don't have all that anymore I just feel happier and I have money saved. ✌️

He's not lying about people that drive expensive cars being broke. I'm a firefighter in a big city, and there are so many guys that make the same as me driving around in a brand new $90k+ truck paying $800+ a month payments thinking they're hot shit. Its a joke. I still drive my 03 dodge 1500 with rusted wheel wells, been paid off for years, fuck a car payment man, I'm driving it till it blows up. Also he's right about taking advantage of cash back credit cards. I have used the Amazon 5% card, and citi 2% card on EVERYTHING and pay them off monthly (practically replaced my debit card). I use the cash back and just put the rewards on the next months statement. Be a responsible adult and let these credit card companies pay for some bills. Be smart guys, take care of your family, and stay safe out there. Btw bro, hurry up and test ride that FTR 1200 lol.

You nailed it. Live within your means and minimize your debt. I paid off all my credit card debt, paid cash for my bike (2023 CB650R), bought my fixer upper house back in 2010 during the housing market crash from a bank owned foreclosure (now tripled in value giving me over 250k equity), and paid off my car early. All I have is a small mortgage payment and enough cash in the bank to live for a year or two if I lost my job. The secure feeling I have now was worth the few years of living frugally.

Great advice CC. I *started* my adult single Life like this. Paid off and living below my means. Then I blew it and married young, had 2 kids, and lived owing everyone and owning nothing. Thank God I snapped out of that at age 45 and went self employed, paid off, and debt free. As you say, it took years to get there, but worth it.

One thing I never did was spend any pay raises or overtime on new cars. One year we got a 10% pay raise. One woman went right out and bought a new car. I asked her what was wrong with her old car? She said, “ I’m not like you, I don’t take care of my cars”. Housing upgrades and new cars keep people in debt.I would LOVE a new Suzuki DR650, but I refuse to get rid of my paid off Triumph.

Been married 20 years. When we got together I said, “Cash is king.”, and, “Beans and rice…” But my wife didn’t want to wait that long to save, and wanted a more varied menu. Now 21 years later she’s finally on board. We both have well paying jobs and don’t live above our means. We will have our newly built home paid off in 5 years. Our only (and final) debt. We’ll be 45. We used the profit from our last home to build this one. After it’s paid off I’m starting my own small lawn care business for supplemental income. I’m tired of working for “the man”. It’ll feel good when I walk into my boss’s office, strip down to my boxers and undershirt and leave the company uniform on his desk. There may also be a “bird” or two flying about…

The next generation of folks is never going to own anything. Young people these days have no financial discipline whatsoever. Living "frugal" is looked down upon unfortunately because the goal these days seems to be to "live life" by taking frequent expensive vacations, going out and spending tons of money at restaurants/bars.
These people are never gonna own property, but it seems like they're okay with it. They haven't built new houses in my neighborhood years but they have built 5 new overpriced apartment complexes which seem to find tenants pretty easily.
The government is to blame for this because they want us to never own anything and they want "consumers".
    Anyways happy holidays CC 🎉!

No such thing as $50k homes in Australia. Median house price in Melb and Sydney are well above $1m. Regional cities are $500k. Anywhere coastal is +$1m. Cheapest would be in the desert somewhere, and they are still +250k

Good advice, motivation speech. Ive always said/believe that more you make more you spend. I probably have a few years at least. Always just got by not ahead. Took out personal loan many years ago paid debts at time. Got behind again, always needed a car. Tried something else didnt pan out, but dont think need to worry about now. Intentionally generic there. Much less debts, but still nowhere. Always had lower paying jobs. Huge debts now and holding back Mobility Van costs a ton traded in my Ridgeline for, probably was only couple years left on that loan before 6.5 year van. Small bike loan, misc phone, accident insurance, car insurance. Utilities and mortgage dont apply taking care of mom her house. My Future after here is what has me confused, scared where to go and what to do.

Best bit is being the only one in your neighborhood that's debt free and owns their house outright. While all my neighbors are buried in a high interest mortgage for over 30 years. Legit parking your money in a savings account is the way to go, it's completely safe with no threat of the stocks your in dropping because of other people's actions affecting the stock price.

I'm debt free and it feels great. And I'm also planning on buying two rental properties in full. I also invest in the S&P 500 and other index funds. I get back an 8-10% return on profit and other safe index funds investments combined. Some savings bank yield a high interest rate, but not many. Avoid crypto currency. Too volatile.
