Everyone needs a Nate. Energy in abundance.
Heck yeah! I'm PUMPED for this!
When I see videos with dream workshops i feel so happy like this is my dream workshops. Wish the best 👍
From the Tiny House to the Shop. Wow, you are doin’ it.
Lots of work to do, but I'm excited to get things finished up on the tiny house fairly soon!
Always always always start with a drainage plan. When the grading and exterior is complete, then you go inside with the sealing and painting. You're chasing your tail if you don't.
I agree !
If you are waterproofing inside your house your are to late and doing it wrong. You will have problems down the road.
You need to stop water from entering your wall not trapping it in there.
@@davesch1512 THIS!
Yeah I'm surprised he didn't excavate around the exterior and waterproof the outside of the block and add in a weeper.
I've been watching Gate City Foundation Drainage on UA-cam for a while. He recommends PVC pipe and not that black corrugated pipe that gets clogged over time.
As I said in the video, I have plans to address the exterior but needed to get this interior work done first as I had a tight timeline to get the framing work done.
So glad to see you doing something with this building. As a native of Candler and driving by there every day for most of my life it does my heart good to see this.
love the mix of creative people living in the region and helping each other out!
Wow, this thumbnail popped up in my suggestions and I thought, that looks like the shop behind the carwash and bakery. I clicked on it and it was! Good to know a local is doing well on YT.
Hah, small world! I found the shop was for sale while getting cinnamon rolls across the street!
excited to kick off this series!
Fantastic, Educational and Entertaining! Your enthusiasm comes over in bucket fulls. Can’t wait for the next video. Keep it up.
Wow - that was some messy, backbreaking work! You're making really nice progress - so proud of you😊
Thanks mama!
I'm dead, Alex is staying in the shop??? 😂 He cracks me up! Good to see him still around!
The dream shop looks awesome! I'm looking forward to the build of it. I might steal some ideas :)
Just out of curiosity can you make a video on the business aspect.
What did you need to accomplish in order to obtain your building.
What are the steps scouting, real estate, insurance, loop holes, tax loop holes.
What are some obstacles you ran into and what to look out for during this process that you wish you would have done.
Hot much it cost, building materials, where and how you got all material. I only ask cause I’m a car Audio shop but I’m looking to get a similar shop as well.
I kind of got lucky with this building and happened to see a "For Sale By Owner" sign in the window while I was getting cinnamon rolls at a bakery across the street. 😂 There weren't really any loop holes to speak of, I did buy the properly under a separate LLC, which my accountant recommended.
I got fairly standard commercial insurance, although I had a little trouble finding someone to insure the property without a fire suppression system. The building cost $372k and any of the building materials I haven't salvaged from the property were just purchased from my local Lowe's. Hope that helps!
Can't wait to see more of these episodes.. Kinda wishing I wasn't watching "live" and could binge!
Hah, I know the feeling! I should be putting them out weekly for awhile as I’m getting them edited as fast as I can!
@@craftedworkshop Awesome! Can't wait!
What a great shop. Every man's dream.
I love that you put 24" of masking on the floor when painting the wall and then you peel up the masking and it was obvious where it was on the floor haha. I love these sprayers but they require SO MUCH prep compared to paint rollers to not get paint everywhere.
I love that I just watched the first video last night and was wondering when the next one would come out
Perfect timing!
I am so happy to hear you say that the water proofing paint wasn't going to be the only "water proofing" you were working on, because I was like, if you have loads of water coming from outside, that water proofing paint ain't gonna do shit :D some propper drainage outside will help immensely, if getting the water away from the building is a problem because of the layout of the ground around the shop, some kind of french drain should also be able to take care of a lot of the water :)
but cant wait too see how the shop is gonna turn out :)
Looking great! Glad to see you tackling the water leakage issue and being pro-active. Also glad to see you let someone else tackle the insulation removal. That was some serious nasty stuff! I know there's a lot more work to do, but its going to be an awesome workshop when its done! Also, regardless of what Dave P says, NO CARPETING! 😁
Hah, definitely no way I was doing that insulation removal, would have paid double to avoid it! And yes, no carpet 😂
Wow lots of changes…..you have come a long way from your old garage shop. Very excited for you!
Nate is the real MVP in this one
Ayyyee! Thanks 🙏
@@reddigreels it’s the truth lol. Nice work!
@@neonllamasftw Much love, hammer drilling all that paint off was… quite the task 😂
@@reddigreels Yeah my back hurt just watching!
I’ve been waiting for this build series to start and you did not disappoint!! Looking forward to seeing your dream shop be completed.
About time! Been waiting for this series!
I would also recommend burying some PVC pipe instead of the flexible drain tile. The water exits was faster and can leak along the way and gets it clear of the build too.
Love that Graco sprayer you have. Bought one 2 yrs ago and love it.
Yea it works great!
This is awesome! Bad-ass shop and you've got a coffee hut right next door? Hell yeah.
Thanks! And yup, there's a bakery across the street, gotta keep my will power strong to keep from eating there too much 😂
randomly ran into this channel and heard berm peak and single track sampler. i might be staying around! good people
Super excited about this series! Great job!
Super excited for this build and happy you have sooo much support too from your friends and sponsors .... Thanks for the vids and the great editing and CONGRATS! 927k subs Monday 10:36 am, March 258, 2022
You are going to have one sweet workshop. Can't wait to watch it grow 😀
Always start with the exterior. Roof, regrade and French drains.
Yep working in landscaping the amount of people that neglect their water flow makes me cringe
This.
Another series! So looking forward to this!
Love seeing the name drops and crossovers from my favorite MTB channels!
Edit: watching part 2. Perkins brothers too? Man you all live so close. Im going to have to move!!
Im so excited for this next project! Your builds are always so incredible!
Thanks man!
I have some serious shop envy right now.
Super excited! Thank you
Awesome shop excited for the process
This shop is huge. Looking very well. Looking real good so far. So happy to see a new video on your shop update. Can't wait to see more videos soon my friend. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep Making. God Bless.
Love these video series formats! It's so satisfying to watch a project/space/something that was neglected come to life and be repurposed. Awesome stuff, Jonny.
Another great series I’m looking forward too thanks Johnny.
That’s going to be a great shop.
I'd also put a membrane on the outside wall once you pull the dirt out of it cause from the video its not clear if you are planning to waterproof outside of the wall. Right now all you did is trapped incoming moisture like the previous owner did.
"I'll never go back to roller painting again"... shows using a paint roller 5 minutes later 🤣🤣
Hah!
To be fair, I don't think you can put drylock thru a sprayer. Leastwise when I used it decades ago. Maybe its improved since then.
@@modelmanjohn yea you still have to roll it and brush it to work it in.
@@modelmanjohn I know, I was just having a laugh 😎
I get where Branden is coming from. The minute we find an easier or more efficient way to do something, we claim; "I'll never do xxxxx again"! But sooner or later we discover there's some reason why we have to go back on our claim!
I thought it was funny too.
Like the man said; "Never say never!"
By the way, nice video, keep'em coming. I'm originally a Carolina boy and always love stuff about home!
The video I have been waiting for
Hello Handyman Friend,
Superb Workshop, spacious you will spend hours and hours there with pleasure even while working there, when I look at the renovation you have a lot of work, it reminds me of when I was able to acquire my Workshop, a former motor winding factory all power inside has been protected by alarms, but outside wild tagging, I have an area of 2000 M² on the ground floor, including, F & H Changing rooms, WC, Showers, Self "dining area" and Economat, on the first floor; employed offices; WC F&H, dining area and on the second floor my apartments, I am in patronaria with a school the "CEFA" they provide the tools to the students, I the locals, everyone wins.
Nowadays it's not easy to be independent, well, whoever wants it never stops.
Sincerely, Alain from Belgium.
Awesome, really looking forward to this series!
this is gonna be wicked!
So cool! Looking forward to seeing what kinds of workflows you create with that space =)
Cool shop. I love what you did with it.
wow - so very cool - amazing to see the process
Awesome shop man.. grats!!! looking good so far
Looks like a huge project! But renovating an existing building is easier and more economical than building a new building. Looks to be an exciting and information packed series ahead. Thanks for sharing.
Nice. I'm just trying to get a 12×36' shed for myself lol
Hmm, I stop at that purple and green bakery for my morning scone most mornings!
I had the same issue when I bought a house with a three car detached workshop two years ago. Digging a shallow drainage swale 3 feet away from the slab which was sloped towards some nearby drainage and laying a shallow bed of gravel in it completely transformed the building. My tools used to rust inside and the slab would sweat moisture for the entire summer… Now everything in there is completely bone dry.
Glad to hear it, as I think that's my plan pretty much exactly. Digging out the entire face of the wall to waterproof it seems like a MAJOR undertaking, so I'm hoping a swale might be a good start and we'll see how well it works.
@@craftedworkshop the gutters on my shop had been clogged for a decade and the ground was graded toward the slab on 3 sides. To add more detail, I sloped the ground away from the slab and dug a 12” or so deep trench 30-36” from the wall.
The downspouts now run into NON perforated corrugated plastic drain tile which is in the bottom of the swale, then run to a creek bed where they empty. Backfilled & sloped these ditches into a shallow swale, and lined with gravel to somewhat prevent erosion.
Both runoff and actual gutter water are taken away by separate means and the total solution keeps the shop as dry as my house (which is atop the hill.) Works great without the expense of a french drain or weeping tile, because I had enough slope to work with.
Thanks for the info!
I have sprayed Drylok with a drywall texture gun. Works phenomenally. Sometimes I go back and work it in with a brush but usually the air gun pushes the paint into the block just as well as a brush if not better.
Good tip!
Terrific work Johnny! That is going to be one awesome building when you get done! 👍👍
i dont care if exterior should be done first or not, great content as it is
It's great, good work... next time you have to disassemble the spread just use industrial acetone, it melts and leaves no residue...
wow, great video 👏
Glad I found the channel definitely subscribed, some awesome work...💯
Thanks Robert!
Underground coal mining we had trouble with mould on the long wall we used fertilizer spay bottles with vinegar did the trick killed mould.
When I had my house painted they used the same type of paint sprayer. After spraying they went right back over the paint with a paint roller. I asked why and they said its the only way to ensure total even coverage. Though all they did was go over the paint 1 roll and it went super fast.
One of my biggest regrets of moving into my shop is not having the time or money to make it nice like you are doing.
Got a Seth Makita roomba AND a towlie cameo! NICE
Yup!
Lookin great . Id suggest a Dehumidifier for the shope for moisture since the shop has had water issues ( just a suggestion
This looks likes it’s going to be a good one!
I also love the Lutron remotes. My house has a bunch of oddly placed switches that mean you have to cross a dark room to turn on the lights. Problem solved!
now all you need is 4 and 1/2 tractors lotta furniture, tools, tables, and a well. jokes aside thats sick and i do personally recommend lumber racks
Glad to finally see that building get used! If ya wanna get rid of that sink in the kitchen let me know, I've been lookin' for one, or need some help. I live down the street. 😆
Love it❤👍
Looks like a great project - looking forward to following your progress !
Thanks!
This is exciting! I personally would carpet the whole thing.
Of course YOU would!!! At least Bob has carpet in his CNC shop, right?
Radiant heat under the shag carpet in the bathroom is incredible
I agree with the others comments get outside drainage done right away.
Wow it's going to be amazing Congrat again
Just found your channel looking forward to seeing rhe shop build. 😀
Nice, welcome!
Hey jonny , how many litre of paint do you think it takes you to sprayed that wall ? 6:50
We have an electric pallet jack where I work. The only difference is you can ride on it. And it's pretty damn fast, too.
Kryton crystal water activated water membrane. Use it with hydro static pressure.
Very nice shop.
"I need some excavator work done"
Seth: Say no more! *shows with his excavator and his gator*
Keep this coming
As someone who owns/works in a cabinet shop, I can attest to the dust being EVERYWHERE
It’s crazy!
I think my favorite part is that you're bringing back a dropped ceiling. You used to curse it in your garage shop years ago and on the old podcast, what makes it the right answer here?
For mold killing, use RMR-141
Very excited to see how this comes together. Lots of great products shown. Might need to pick up a few of them
Third!! Love the videos man, keep up the good work
My house basically runs on Picos... Agreed, absolute game-changer.
They are the bomb. So much more stable than most other smart home products in my experience.
@@craftedworkshop - Push button, light changes. No f__king around with apps and dropped pairings. Have you seen the tabletop pedestals? Have one on my computer desk for the office, a dual in the theatre room for ambient and overhead lights, ditto in the bedroom mounted right to the bed.
Even have a remote with their visor-clip in the car, memory button turns on entry (high), main room (mid) and kitchen (low)... one button from the car. Awesome and massively under-appreciated system.
My alternative solution: Simply use plastic or metal rods to push the old isolation further back. After doing that: Use closed cell foam to spray over the old pinned in place isolation. ... Use less closed cell foam ... Profit !
If you’re getting that much water coming through your block that drylok isn’t going to do you any good. You should be addressing it from the outside. Dig a trench down to the footers. At the least put some bituthene on the walls where they will be below grade but your best bet is going to be a French drain and like you said the grading will make a huge difference. But keeping water out always starts from the outside first
Watch the whole video! I’ll be addressing the outside in phase two.
Should always start with fixing the drainage and roofing issues to control your ground water. You did the secondary and cosmetic interior work first so good luck with that.
Fantastic work, Johnny! The place is already looking amazing! 😃
There are some products you can apply to the outside wall to waterproof it, if you ever need. But I think it's going to be perfectly fine with the modifications you mentioned. 😊
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
if the outside drainage is addressed, would there be a need to add waterproofing inside and trap water in the walls?
Dude, I am totally excited to follow this series! I will be living my dream vicariously through you. Lol! Good luck!
actually, even though your sprayed the walls with the paint. You are kindof suppose to finish up with a roller after it to Smooth the paint out so there is no bumps and splatters and uneven sections.
Yea on the concrete block it definitely wasn't a problem since the surface is so uneven already.
Here in UK we build from foundation to damp proof level then floor level
Interesting!
I just smashed that like button.
Swrew the lifty bench to a plet to make it kove able with the pallet jacks
