Definitely would love to see a second part to this, the band did not die with jimmy. Nightmare went on to be huge, they did music for COD, hail to the king, the stage brought us Brooks Wackerman from bad religion, so much more history to this band to just end it with the Revs passing.
Totally agree. Felt weird ending it with Jimmy's passing but I also try to keep these episodes under 30 minutes. I think a second episode on A7X needs to be done.
I couldn't agree more. The journey from then to now is....*I have no words* It irritates me when people talk about Matt's voice. "Dudes voice is shot". It's different for sure but it's incredible. Especially in cosmic. I fucking love it.
My first ever Rock/Metal concert was A7X with Papa Roach when the Rev was still alive when I was 24 or 25 and I’m 37 now. A7X is literally the band that got me to start playing guitar 13 when I heard Unholy Confessions. So I owe a lot to this band! I may not listen to them like I used to at all but I still love this band nonetheless! And R.I.P. Rev!!!
I’ve played drums for 21 years, since I was 5, and Jimmy is arguably still my biggest influence almost 14 years after his passing. I distinctly remember the day I found out about his passing, I was 12 at the time, and to this day it’s still one of only four celebrity deaths that I’ve cried over (the others being Ronnie James Dio, just a few months later, and more recently, Neil Peart and Joey Jordison. RIP to all of those legends)
Stoked to see some clips from a video I posted. I grew up in HB from the age of 3 and still live there. I met A7X at the age of 9 (they were 17 at the time), and they didn’t do anything crazier than any kids you see in HB today. We played Guitar Hero at Nickle Nickle before it was available in your home, had typical house parties, but most importantly listened to music. Matt invited my entire family over to pick out whatever merch we wanted out of his parents garage. These guys are down to earth and true to themselves. Been my favorite band since the 4th grade when they first released the 3 song demo prior to Sounding. Excellent doc, nicely done!
Justin Meecham was the bassist on Waking the Fallen, he tried to off himself which is why I won’t see you tonight was written. He was replaced by dameon ash who was replaced halfway through their tour by Johnny Christ
I think Synyster Gates being heavily influenced by Django Reinhardt is really neat. When i went to college and studied jazz music, I remember being intrigued by Mr. Reinhardt so much that i learned some of his techniques. Very fun stuff
Love your videos my guy!!! Thanks for the work you put in!!! Thoughtful, informative, and once again. The hard woke you put into these videos, for our entertainment.
This was a really well put together video, thank you. However, while the origin story is so important, this could really do with a part two, especially as this covers 4/8 albums to date. There's still so much to talk about like how they moved on after the Rev's death, their dive into steadily more progressive albums, and how philosophy and spirituality took on a bigger and bigger role.
We're soo proud of you jimmy and all of a7x family's you'll all just inspire us and just soo unique!! This band makes my childhood grown till eand with tears.. 😢
Can’t just end it here, part 2 bro! Need the rest of the history! Brooks helped Save A7X imo. Cant forget Portnoy that helped them out, The Rev was a massive fan of his too. Amazing Live man!
I'd love to see a part two documenting the creation of nightmare, touring Portnoy, hail to the king, the stage and up to with LIBAD. Maybe some stuff about their work with Activision and the Black Reign EP!
They’re still just incredible! Saw them a few months back on their LIBAD tour, and production, performance…just fantastic! Even with M shadows being ill, it was such an incredible show.
How did the background music come about for your vids. Really suits them like a glove and it really makes your documentaries stand out from the rest which I love
Great job on this. But heres a bit of a correction. At the time of The Rev’s passing, they were already working on the album Nightmare and he had already demoed out the drums for most if not all of the album and some vocals most notably the song Fiction(check it out if yall haven’t heard it yet(bonus fact; The Rev’s solo part “i hope its worth it…..” he was recovering from a hangover). Mike portnoy came in and basically recorded and kept true to what jimmy had demoed on a electric drum kit. And mike did an excellent job with it.
He wrote most of that album and the band had finished writing it before he passed but he didn't record the album with the band, although as you say there are some of his vocals present. I'm not sure what you're actually correcting? Demoing drums and writing are not the same as recording an album with the actual band.
fuckin love em forever.... I was such a huge fan... at least up til city of evil and graduating high school before the "scene" or whatever died. I mean I still am, but clearly times were just different in early-mid 2000's This band bridged sooooo many fuckin gaps in high school diplomacy. Jocks, Skaters, and Emos all joined forces so often due to this band lol. Such fuckin good times. Jocks going to emo/scene kids band shows.... Emo/scenesters going to football, baseball, basketball games for the school. Skaters bridging the gaps and still chillin with the nerds. Yes a7x somehow was directly loved by all and helped us ALL have something we all enjoyed together That and the girls, man!!!
The band and their story did not end there at all need to do a continuation since they are still going strong and still a successful and totally relevant band and not over by any stretch of the imagination
This should be the story of the Rev. even that is incomplete in this video because he did write the drums for the album “nightmare.” He didn’t get to record the record. He’s also singing on that album. Anyways, the story of avenged sevenfold does not end with the revs death. Nightmare of 2010 and the stage 2016 or a couple of their best albums. We’ll see how life is but a dream holds up.
If I remember correctly, Jimmy took his own life? It was not accidental. Brompton Cocktail was his message to the band, how he was going to do it. Fiction was Jimmy’s suicide letter to the band they found he had written after he passed away. Check me on this, but I swear I remember watching videos of the band talking about this stuff after it happened
No, it was definitely accidental. I refuse to believe anything else. The time of his death seems to suggest that it wasn’t necessarily on purpose. It was a random time, sometime in the middle of the day. There’s more sources saying that his death was an accidental prescription drug overdose and alcohol. The combination was lethal.
Excellent video, but the band didn’t end with jimmy passing, you left so much on the table to discuss, I mean there’s 4 more albums since the self title, most importantly of which was nightmare that jimmy helped write most of but past before any studio recordings were done, and the legend Mike Portnoy himself stepped up to studio record the album with avenged in honor of jimmy
I didn't say they stopped after that, we all know the band carried on after Jimmy. I try and keep the episodes to around 30 minutes so there just wasn't time to go into anything else. I might release a part two in the future to cover more of their career!
@@RAWMUSICTV I was just left wanting more, avenged is one of my favorite bands, one of the few that I’ve religiously kept up on, there’s just so much to go into with them, I would love to see a part 2 soon
This one felt a bit short but I try to keep these episodes under 30 minutes as that seems to be a good length for most people. Let me know if you want them longer! Join the #backstage area discord.gg/Nv5mayZnZR
He helped to write all of it, around 60% was purely written by him though. "I mean, Jimmy's had a part in every song and a lot of the songs are 100 percent his. He probably wrote about 60 percent of this record, himself." - Johnny Christ
There first video was great when I seen it I thought why havnt I heard of these guys they must be huge and got the album turns out they weren't even close to be a big band but the video made them look like they were was a great idea and awesome way to kick start the band I probably wasn't the only person to think that that video still awesome makes them look as big as they are these days because I know for fact they were barely anything when that video was aired was smart
Hey honestly, knowing about the “death contracts” and givin the fact that they were so good, they could just go independent. Was their any foul play? The rev was a smart guy who understood business and … I just wonder

@@RAWMUSICTV I'm looking forward to it and yes, it did feel like such a downer at the end there.
Speaking of nightmare, Jimmy recorded the entirety of Fiction without the rest of the band knowing and 3 days before his death.
And of course their recent album "Life Is But A Dream"
A7x was one of the greatest bands to emerge from the 2000s era. Still going strong and pushing limits!

Justin Meecham was the bassist on Waking the Fallen, he tried to off himself which is why I won’t see you tonight was written. He was replaced by dameon ash who was replaced halfway through their tour by Johnny Christ
This feels more like a story about Jimmy Sullivan rather than the whole Avenged Sevenfold story. Especially in how it started & ended.
Well he was a big part of the band so it kinda makes sense. But at the same time, I understand what you’re saying
I was a punk fan in the early 2ks and fell in love with them when i heard waking the fallen
