It's not an issue to train, but thinking that you can actually prepare is a bad mindset. Being in decent physical shape and health is the only thing that you can do, but if you are in bad health and shape you wont even be allowed to attempt SEAL training. If you are in decent shape, there is nothing more you can do. I didn't attend BUDS, but I did go through Raider individual training course. @@aauwhatitdo1582 Those kinds of tests are not the kind you can prepare for. But you can prepare for a knife attack by training knife defense. I see the point, but those 2 things are are apples and oranges. Granted, taking cold showers isn't going to do it but those 👆there are Horrible references, so what does that mean, don't endurance train, weight train or perform pool or open water swims to "get used to it?" He probably should have made more of an effort to think before he spoke. You should absolutely cold water train to prepare psychologically for the AMOUNT of time your going to be in the water. The cold water is what really keeps the attrition rate high. The idea is to limit the amount of physical discomforts from stacking up on you psychologically,so you never even think about ringing the bell. Prepare, Prepare, Prepare.
This isn’t bad advice. This is exactly what you should do. In order to make it through BUDS you have to prepare mentally. The only way to do that is to accept the fact that you’re gonna be colder and more tired than you’ve ever been in your life. But it’s not forever it’s just gonna feel like forever. You have to prepare mentally because the real battle is in your mind.

Getting in ice cold showers DEFINITELY helps you to become mentally stronger and deal with being in the cold longer and everything. There's so many good things from taking ice cold showers and ice baths. Buds isn't anything compared to being fired at and freezing out but your ADRENALINE is what will keep you warm and in the zone. You just need to know how to take control of your adrenaline and breath slowly and things will look slow motion and feel like you can react way faster and can see everything visually clearer and hear any and all little sounds. Be able to scan around with your eyes and then have PERFECT visual imprint of your surroundings in your head.

You cant prepare for sleep deprivation and a constant hazy brain. Thats got to be one of the worst parts. But I imagine being able to run 10 miles a day, 500 push ups a day, 100 pulls up a day etc will help ease some stress. But sleep deprivation? Extreme hunger? Thirst? You cant really prepare for it.
So you think 10 miles is along way to run and 500 is alot of push-ups lmao you might want to think twice about BUDS or any similar training. I was a Paratrooper and served in SF which is no where close to BUDS I ran 10 miles on average with my Platoon in the morning and another 5-10 on my own after work just to keep up thats just the Infantry. My Platoon had a pull up bar in front of our office and there is alot of time when you don't have shit to do. We filled that time with standing in front of a pull up bar doing push-ups and pull ups all day long till it got stupid. We did morning PT went to breakfast and just went to the pull up bar and did that shit all day long. PT in the Infantry is constant. In BUDS it's like that times ten. None of that counts when you get smoked for screwing up.
I began my career as a Navy Rescue Swimmer which has alot of similarities to the beginnings of BUDS we ran 5 miles each way just to get to the chow hall for breakfast and lunch
@@joshualittle877 Dude...its an example. Dont talk hot shit to me about your service. I aint no fucking POG and got 3 deployments under me. 10 miles a day, 100 miles a day. I dont care. You guys are tough guys forget what these other people are saying I appreciate what you guys do. They don't realize what you guys are. I love all you guys. Y'all are all American heroes. He said all I done was my duty. All the heroes come back home in a coffin or are buried over there. Thank you for what you do.
The best benefit of cold showers is you heal faster from exercise. Also you don't get colds as often. Also helps with sleep n relaxation. It's not gonna make you too tough but it's got other benefits. I leave for work at 6 am so need to shower at 4.30am. even in days off i still stick to it.
I would say definitely start running and swimming A LOT espc if you have access to cold open water. Cold showers may be helpful but probably the best thing is endurance and strength and cardio training.
Funny bc I was training in martial arts and the instructor would always kick me in the nuts randomly daily for a week straight. After about a week I was like I must be getting stronger physically & mentally like one of those Shaolin monks. On the 8th day it hurt like hell. I realized the 6 previous days he just didn’t lace into me like my 1st day training with him. The 8th day hurt the same as the 1st lol. That’s the age bracket where many would charge a machine gun nest without being asked. God bless Americas Finest!
The best advise I got is to prepare to do something difficult and that you know is gonna suck, do a lot of things that suck. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. That is the only way to prepare for something that you know is gonna fucking suck, but if you can go through it even when you know that is gonna suck. Then you’ve become strong.
Keep in mind that people fail out of BUDS not just because it’s so tough and rigorous, but also because you ALMOST get paid as much just doing sonar on a ship, or loading artillery on a ship, and you don’t have to be shot at. People lose willpower because of financial reasons, as well as simple career navigation.
He’s got a point about that example. I’d say just prepare for BUD/S by working on swimming, running, push ups and sit ups and other exercises that are in BUD/S. Don’t prepare by cold showers bc it’s still gonna suck when you are laying in cold ocean water lol. Marine Corps basic training is kinda like special forces training, you’re supposed to find out that you’ve got what it takes to be a Marine, Green Beret, Navy SEAL or an Army Ranger. But if any of you are wanting to be in the U.S. Military, I wish you good luck and stay safe! And thank you for your service to our veterans

I wholeheartedly disagree with this. I am certified white water rescue and I can 100% say that being used to being cold, wet, and understanding how your body reacts when it is, is crucial. Does it still suck? Yes, but you are prepared and do multiple times better than someone without preparing.

Hypothetically, I’d train for not sleeping b/c I believe sleep deprivation is the hardest to beat.
You now know every soft bag of meat out there is going to use this as their personal excuse to not train because "I'll just suck it up when I get there like a seal, man". The human body is a wonderfully adaptive thing. You can climatize to some of the harshest environments known but it won't happen overnight. Being able to tough out the suck, and actually being an asset to those around you are not the same thing.
Trust me bro, you cannot physically prepare yourself for BUDs, it gonna kick you in the balls every single day, I couldn’t make 2 weeks, it rly takes a special mf to complete BUDSS
I have a feeling that his advice got twisted by the time he finished his story. It sounded like he was starting out saying you are getting ready for the wrong stuff then ended with him just telling you not to prepare for anything.
No one quits just because the water was cold. They quit because they are drug through hell. But honestly, how do you prepare for hell?
@@abonynge his advice is extremely specific, everyone is just taking him out of context and taking it as general life advice... use his example... how do you prepare for that kick to the nuts? (you cant).

So you've never achieved anything.
@@christopherclouser2805 that’s an odd assumption. He said not to have cold showers to prepare for the cold water while comparing it to getting kicked in the nuts and preparing for that by getting kicked in the nuts to prepare. Having cold showers would prepare you for the cold water. It would prepare you to go through something shitty everyday. It would prepare your mind that sometimes things can suck but the feeling of achievement works wonders on the brain. His statement is moronic. I’ve had cold showers in and off for years. My first time in a cold bath in the mtns was no problem where other people struggled and rushed out.
@@RobVarley literally, cold water immersion makes cold water immersion easier, mentally and physically. not exactly sure what point he’s trying to make, would he also suggest not rucking or creating a habit of discipline before going for selection or even enlisting because its going to suck anyway? lol.

He’s basically saying, don’t anticipate, react, which in a lot of instances is actually the best thing to do. U do ur best in reactionary situations w no distractions, aka the zone
Shit analogy he made Ik, but still
I disagree. You should always try your best to be proactive and not reactive. Handle current problems and prepare for possible problems to avoid having more problems. Some people may be better reacting, but the vast majority of people will perform better if they anticipated their weak points and worked on them first.
Oh ok cool so I’m just gonna keep eating big Mac supersize meals with a liter of cola till I get to buds I should be able to take it like a man right lol.
Yeah. Especially if you do an ice bath once per week just to know you can do it. It sucks but anyone can do it if they make themselves. Don't go overboard but just to see what it's like.
I completely agree. If you have the mental fortitude to get through training then you will. Or you'll find out you're not the person you wanted to be. You are what you are. You can delude yourself that you could have been something you're not because you're now waking up at 4 a.m. and taking cold showers like they tell you go do on UA-cam, but it's meaningless.

everytime I see buddy on any interview, people dont seem to dandy him
There is something to be said about nerve, but is it really a disadvantage to prepare? To train?
No he's just dumb
It's not an issue to train, but thinking that you can actually prepare is a bad mindset. Being in decent physical shape and health is the only thing that you can do, but if you are in bad health and shape you wont even be allowed to attempt SEAL training.
If you are in decent shape, there is nothing more you can do. I didn't attend BUDS, but I did go through Raider individual training course. I spent a long time physically preparing for it and I had perfect PT scores without effort, I felt unprepared 36 hours in.
@@aauwhatitdo1582 Those kinds of tests are not the kind you can prepare for. But you can prepare for a knife attack by training knife defense. You can prepare for a shooting by conceal and carrying and practicing your draw regularly. Not to mention it takes quite a long ass time to get in good physical shape, it's a constant demand not a one year thing. If you are telling me that all of these wouldn't even give me confidence and comfort in my movements then you're mistaken.
@@randallradke1279 BUDS only tests your physical ability and mental will. You don't do much shooting, fighting, or talking, you just suffer. You get a mentor going into BUDS, they make sure you are in decent shape, as long as you do the training the mentor tells you, you will be as ready as you can be.
@@aauwhatitdo1582 I still Disagree. I think with 100% certainty that randomly selected citizens would fail at a much greater rate than Recruits that choose to take buds. I don't think there is a way you can convince me otherwise
I would turn the shower cold sometimes to get ready for usmc boot camp. I don’t remember what exact event it was but we were given the chance to shower one night in the field. The hot water didn’t work at the building. Only a handful of us actually showered because the water was so cold. One of the best showers of my life.
When the only hot water you can get is coffee fill a canteen cup with coffee and shave in deuce and a half mirror at the field mess.
I literally took cold showers before every game in college;
It def prepared me to take cold

Granted, taking cold showers isn't going to do it but those 👆there are Horrible references, so what does that mean, don't endurance train, weight train or perform pool or open water swims to "get used to it?"
He probably should have made more of an effort to think before he spoke.
Oh man the amount of roast material here...this gonna age well.
"I think about the cold showers.. when um..*reminiscent stare*..I talk to young kidserrmen that wanna be seals"
Actually a really good training tip is to sleep a ton for 6 months to a year before. You can build up sleep.

TAKE THIS WITH GRAIN OF SALT

Okay then. I am actively preparing on my couch right now eating chips.
Being I'm really good shape helps with sleep deprivation
While you do have lots of sleep deprivation but you eat alot BUDS. Ranger School on the other hand they do both sleep and food depravation.
@@joshualittle877 Dude...its an example.
Dont talk hot shit to me about your service. I aint no fucking POG and got 3 deployments under me.
10 miles a day, 100 miles a day. I dont care. The point I was making is that you can be as prepared physically as you want, you cant prepare for lack of food, water and sleep.
I leave for work at 6 am so need to shower at 4.30am. even in days off i still stick to it.
that is the most realest shit i’ve ever heard

It’s cool that every covert operator has a UA-cam channel and a podcast now.
Facts, it’s not about avoiding the suck rather developing your mind to deal with it when it comes.
Truth. Get as physically and mentally prepared as possible but no matter what you will not be ready which is kind of the point

this stuff is what young boys need to listen to and learn!
“You’re gonna suffer taking that calc exam, so don’t brother suffering more by studying” headass
I think the advice is sound we currently have a soft society to many young men and woman want life as easy as possible what he is saying is u want something bad enough give it ur all no short cuts life is hard nothing worth having should b easy
