I like three hooks off the marina... the crabs get the bottom one, but the others hedge my bets on the other levels.

if your fishing from the marina wall for mackerel , use clear leaders ,, fluro leaders orange /yellow ,, the fish wont come near your feathers ,, it spooks them off
same for most other species too
clear main line and leader is best
I'm pretty sure fish have no conception of what a fishing line is, let alone the specific colours and consequences of being caught.
I fished along side my mate who was using Clear line and was using flouro..he caught a carrier bag full and I didn't get a single one (mackerel)
Ever been of shoreham?
I have fished the beach there a few times its a good place
What about a floating rig? Keep the crabs off
