Yeah not a fan of Salem
this singularity was the most unique. It lacked many stereotypes we see in anime, or FGO. If we took away all servants, Mashu and Ritsuka. It could easily be regular Lovecraft novel, where monsters appear, but for the most of story we witness people paranoia and superstitions.
Hokusai is a chad, when he saw the eldritch abomination, he didn't go insane and was like "whatever, you're not that interesting" because he was excited and was expecting it's looks to be impressive haha and his dedication to portray the thing allowed him to keep his sanity or something
Or he already had madness enhancement, he was just really good at staying stable
Basically, Lovecraftian stories and Fate crossover fanfiction
Is it even a fanfic?
Considering that the first Lovecraft mythos first seen offhand was Caster Gilles de Rais with his tome that contained as a gateway to the universe where the Outer Gods lies.
You know those tentacles that he summoned in the Fuyuki river.
It's not even a fictional crossover but a fact nonetheless with the Nasuverse that could possibly made contact to realities that where consider fictional.
There's was that old saying in Fate, "just because it's fiction, doesn't mean it didn't exist in other worlds."
Or something like that.
@@rogueascendant6611 i do not think you need to take his comment seriously
it obvious Lovecraft god exist in Fate
@@hikarihakai1285 And Outer Gods are treated as the same caliber as Daemons - imaginary beings that interfaced humanity like making contracts, dreams and wishes.
Of course they do exist, but the Lovecraft eldritches in Nasuverse are not entirely the same from Lovecraft mythos.
The whole picture of the Outer Gods from that fictional universe could rendered and change entire reality at whims. Here in Nasuverse, they're being contested and often restrained by universal laws and entities like Gaia and Alaya are keeping them at bay. Thus the Fate version of Lovecraft eldritches are not in their full power or even the same league from HP Lovecraft books.
Rogue Ascendant
I mean, Fate itself is already a fanfic with historical figures fighting for the grail. Adding in that Lovecraftian outer gods are based of H.P Lovecraft's horror stories which are a work of fictions.
@@emikolina5439 There's a difference being called as fanfic and characterized story.
Fanfic or fanfiction is fictional writing written by fans, commonly of an existing work of fiction.
Fate itself written by Kinoko Nasu is an entire characterized storyline that have no bases from other works that would issued to him by others as copyrighted. He created an entire universe from scratch and put things like historical and legendary figures, vampires, magic and aliens. A visual novel he brought forth and the ever expanding franchise.
I'm a bit irritated when someone thought out that Fate is a fanfic when it's literally a story of stories that dated back in 1998 which Kara no Kyokai being the first works of his.
You'd think with the state of the internet, we're still in Salem even now.
Replace actual killing with lob loss and in some cases unemployment, and yeah spot on (minus a few actual deaths at this point).
more like the state of twitter lol
I feel so bad for Lev.
He didn't deserve to be forced into being a vessel for a Demon God Pillar.
Shame for him. In every other universe, he committed suicide in order to prevent Flauros from body-jacking him. The closest he could get to a happy ending was to become an unsung hero…
@@Nameless-ln5mr yup.
this singularity felt like adding anime skin mods to "Sinking City" or "Call of Cthulhu". Seeing anime looking characters next to realistic live action human npcs, all in lovecraftian horror.
Seeing all these anime characters next to realistic almost live action humans... It truly felt like seeing anime skin mods in GTA V xD
It looked a bit out of place, but created interesting experience :)
Best singularity, yes
This singularity was by far one of my favorites, although I’d say I really enjoyed all of the pseudo singularities- mainly Salam- quite a bit for the same reason I liked Babylonia. I loved that for this one in particular, there was a place we got to go and live at for a while rather than constantly moving around. We got to be a part of something. That’s probably just me being sentimental, although another reason was I loved the art and the story of the play like scenes.
I get you, I love when we get to interact in a much personal level with the singularity people, it gives a bitter sweet taste through the rest of the story. It makes the bonds stronger to then either break or make them stronger.
Worth noting that Sut-Typhon is another name for Yog-Sothoth. Summer BB, who is heavily implied to be bonded to Nyarlathotep, even refers to Abby as "Yoggy".
34:29 don’t we summon a separate Abigail. Like the Abigail we know in Salem is still traveling with the gentleman and during abigail’s interlude it’s implied that Salem Abigail used an opportunity to link herself with the Chaldean Abigail to visit us but also loses control and wants to take us with her before we had to deal with the lostbelts.
I remember that people left & right got mad, and rage quit because Abby just wouldn't die. 🤣🤣
I only beaten her with Mashu, Eli-chan, and Merlin.
Can't wait for you to explain the lore of LB1. That is one of my favorites and should be animated.
If you knew Salem's history and a minoring of Lovecraft stuff, you can easily figure out things are wrong. Especially with Abby's "Uncle".
Villagers accuse Mata Hari for being too hot.
Me: I didn't know Twitter exist back in Salem
Sanson was magnificent here, I keep coming back to the sixth knot scene for his dialogue
I always assumed Lovecraft was someone who ended up basing the horrors off of the types, given how ORT looks
definitely my favorite and imo most interesting singularity. I love how dark it went the further you go into the story too. time to watch this
by the way, you should make a video as some sort of follow-up on salem. I am talking abigails interlude ''A Dream of a Hundred Nights and a Thousand Stars'' whcih does connect back to salem. I would love to see that happening as some sort of ''part two'' of this video, if possible ^^
Salem time!!! Circe was done soooooo much better then in her home myths lmao. This was so good at making this almost identical to Salem obviously it's not a complete identical history but the witch trials though they were so on point
_Ahem..._
*Nezha was right... That is all.*
But seriously, if we had nezha and medea together in that singularity, we could have solved the problem overnight.
I'm now an early assess member and seeing my favorite chapter being explain early is nice and these lore videos do a great job in recapping all the story bits we as masters have gone thought I cant wait to see more of these lore videos as well as other content in this channel keep up your fantastic work
Thank you so much!
I do love all the hints and references to not so famous Lovecraft's stories, like how dreams are linked to dimensional travel, the Silver Key that allows special people to travel through space and time, and how the cats know more than they let humans see and more. And, of course, the alien gods and horrors too. It is also Interesting how they changed the Creatures and characters' names to avoid potential copyright infringement. Rodolph Carter would be proud.
"Finally some good fucking news!" Otaku daikun
My favorite of the Epic of Remnant Singularities. It was nice to see Mata Hari get some development and screen time cause she's pretty underrated.
Can’t wait for the second arc, Cosmos in the Lost Belt. Finally!!!
I hope you keep entertaining us with these Lore videos. This channel is the BEST!!!
You put so much work into these lore videos, and they are so informative!
That was enjoyable. You made it seem a let less chaotic then it felt like lol
This video just reminded me how much I love this singularity.
Makes you question how Puritans got married or had children for that matter if they viewed sex is so abhorrent. What'd you do, close your eyes the whole time?🤣🤣🤣🤣
Enjoying sex is abhorrent in their worldview not the act of reproducing itself
I remember seeing someone joke “of course they like sex, why do you think they have those big Catholic families” when someone joked about Catholics not liking sex
@@Pokemaster-wg9gx Well Catholics and Puritans are pretty different after all
@@Pokemaster-wg9gx seriously, how u have 8 kids if you hate sex🤣🤣🤣🤣
@saber 1616 at the end of the day sex is sex. Putting a ring on it doesn't give or take away anything from the concept.
Like how they try to distinguish dirty money from clean money. Money spent on immoral enterprise is not any less valuable than money spent on taxes they're still equal in value because money is money
Thank you very much for this video. This singularity was definitely one of my favorite. Not only do I like lovecraftian stories, but it contains my favorite Caster, Sheba, and my favorite foreigner, and really made appreciate Samson. Plus the soundtrack was really great, so ominous and scary. No wonder they kept using it in the lostbelts. Thanks a lot. Keep up the good work.
Oh shit... how did I miss this? ( Bell enabled )
Thanks buddy for the hard work!
Shimousa, seraph and Salem are one of my most favorite chapters in the game
How interesting that you uploaded this video a day after I saw hubie halloween on Netflix a few days ago.
I always look forward to when these come out :) Good work and I cant wait for the next
31:30 - sorry if this sounds inappropriate, but I laughed so much during that zombie trial. Just the idea of a court case with half of their vocabulary being zombie themed and irrelevant to the trial itself.
Who’s ready to see him tackle the immense fuckery of Lostbelts?
LB2 brings me immense pain because it just doesn’t work, Ophelia constantly changes her power description and the lore of the norse gods just doesn’t work. Also the bit of it in the opening having no snow makes me think it was rewritten at some point
The Trials of the Demon Gods are over, but another calamity is on the rise from without and to our horror within.
Next time we start the prologue to Arc 2, meet some of out opponents, and... get a new boss?
"The all in one, the one in all" when said together sounds extremely dope as a god alias like it just oozes feeling of something you should fear Lovecraft is kinda dope maybe i should look into it
I will say one thing. Mephistopheles acting like Mothman was pretty funny.
Salem, the most intense story of all epic of remnants.
i still remember how I'm glue to storyline forgot how long I've been playing.
sadly Musashi simp win the votes and got Shimosa animated instead...
Either Salem or Shinjuku should get the adaptation. Shimousa was boring af, repetitive and predictable
I am excited for this
Good work dai
Now on to the video!!!!!
Mata Hari getting hanged hit way closer than I would have liked.
She is one of my favorites when it comes to historical figures. But being put do death by hanging just like how her life ended back in France? that stings...
I liked her death scene. But only because it provided me with an emotional sting that the other 3 pseudo singularity's lacked in my case.
It's my favorite story out of the EoR chapters.
Yeaaaa finally more lore
And we're going to a big one
wait a minute...Modern Day people held hostage by a super powerful magic user in a old fashion world?! HOLY SHIT!! This is just like WandaVision, expect alot darker!!
@@jkosch the time i got reincarnated a into a demon god pillar who was hellbent on killing a man with a harem who destroyed a carefully laid 10 thousand year plan that involved burning all of mankind..
@@NicholasJScott it was at most 3000, It didn’t start until. Solomon died
@@jkosch if you think about it like that all Lostbelt servants are isekaied
Sanson: Hah, take that u stupid musician
definitely my favorite epic of remnant chapter for its story alone. Combat isn't that bad and the story made me feel so unnerved, and at points helpless.
Here we go, my favorite Epic of Remnant part (the others are for me from second best to weakest: Shinjuku, [SE.RA.PH. CCC-Event], Shimousa, Agartha). I love how it narratively fits in the Cthulhu Mythos into the Nasuverse, but it is also well paced and all those little Servant interactions (like the French and English rivalry between Sanson and Robin, Medea and Circe ["Don't call me auntie! It makes me feel old!"], Mata Hari and her environment, etc.) and how the newly introduced Servants [excluding Abby who as the "main star" of the Singularity naturally gets a lot of attention] (Nezha, Circe, Queen of Sheba) are given proper space for characterization without stealing away the spotlight from others just shows how well written it is. The idea of making some of the fights part of the plays being performed allows for battles without shoehorning them in a fetch quests or detours.
Another detail I like is how there are several other Lovecraft references. It is not just the Whatelys. (Without rewatching or replaying it I might overlook some but from memory:) There is are least one Pickman and Captain Marsh. Pickman was an artist in the Lovecraft's story "Pickman's model" who was painting highly acclaimed horrific pictures of disturbing human-like entities; at the end of the story it is revealed that he did not invent them but painted portraits of actual Ghouls. Later in the novella "The Dreamquest of Unknow Khadath" Randolph Carter (before he had to regain his ability to act consciously in the dreamlands [after loosing it "off screen"] and eventually travel the Cosmos which he did in "The Silver Key" and "Through the Gates of the Silver Key") meets Pickman, now turned into a Ghoul as the spokesman of a group of Ghouls he befriends(!). Captain Obed March appears prominently as the instigator of the events in the story "The Shadow over Innsmouth" where he is a wealthy sea captain who engaged in trade with the Pacific Caroline Island. There he made contact with the immortal race of pisciform humanoids known as the Deep Ones (through the Deep One human hybrid population). Upon returning to Innsmouth (also near Salem upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/46/Lovecraft_Country.svg), he founded the 'Esoteric Order of Dagon' and became patriarch of the elite Marsh family which turned future generations of most of Innsmouth into Deep One hybrids.
Within Lovecraftian cannon Randolph Carter's family did live (and flee) Salem Massachusetts during the Witch Trails, so that is not an addition made for the Nasuverse.
A Detail you didn't mention is that Matthew Hopkins is out of his time. He died on August 12 1647, but the year inside Räum's simulation is 1692. There are some moments when Sanson actually wonders if Hopkins is here as a Heroic Spirit and eventually the Chaldeans figure out that he is almost 50 years to late and that he was drawn in by Räum, just like some other people.
All in all this was great video of condensed lore (although it did leave out some of the details I liked due to it's condensed nature). I am looking forward to the Lostbelt prologue lore and wonder if you will include the MOONLIGHT/LOSTROOM in that video as well.
[I am re-posting this comment because I am moving my account away from a university owned account and don't want to lose the comments when switching.]
You should be surprise that Lovecraft is really scared of everything and everyone. His worst fear of all is the fear of the sea.
yeah we do so, my alt got her with in my first 10x pull beside the tutorial, her name when you got her is caster of oceanos
Hello Dai, Thank you very much for this summary of the Salem story.
I love all the Lovecraft references in this story I think 7 or 8 I could read out like the Pickman family (Pickman's model)
I would know something else, I know you only make summaries of the main stories and I know it's a lot but have you ever thought about old events that newer players have missed, maybe also give a short summary of the stories
The main reason I haven't covered a lot of events is that they're really inconsequential and awfully silly. That said if there's a servant that was introduced via an event I'll mention any relevant details.
I still believe Medea has the second-worst backstory. Angra Mainyu is still #1
Another awesome lore video
Looking forward to the the next one
Oh lano would love this video
when looked up Abby's history, I noticed something was wrong when Abby's cousin wasn't involved in Fate/Salem, and when the name of the uncle was completely different. That sparked a *"WTF is going on!!"* moment within me as I continued to play and read.
Definitely my favorite pseudo singularity. Loved the touch of eldritch/lovecraftian horror.
You forgot that yog-sothoth also basically embodies everything.Basically everything in the Cthulhu mythos verse is nothing more than just a part of his true form.
I wanted to level Sanson until I played this singularity, now he can stay lvl 1 until the end of time.
On the other hand no regrets fully leveling Robin, he has earned all the embers he can get.
Hey where can I read the Salem Manga? It looks so clean!
Google. It's not officially localized nor is it even remotely complete.
its rather ironic that in fate/nasu demons are a thing to be concearned with
Did you know in the occult and satanism there has actually been rituals to contact these beings like chuthulu. Also love your fgo video. Your my number 1 source for info.
my favourite singularity, funny fact I was playing Bloodborne when I started this singularity
C'thulu is actually the weakest of the oldest god, his presence alone is just enough to bring the end of our world x-D
Of the 5 eor chapters(yes seraph is one) I did find Salem something that tried and almost succeeded in doing a super fresh and unique story.
Cast wise it was great since we actually were able to prepare ahead of time and I felt it would have been better to include more of the ealry chapter characters like Medea and gurannino but nasu won't out Original fsn characters in stories but Circe was amazing I love her so much in the story.
Where it falls off is basically filler of the players as they drag on and take up time that could have been used for other things since the story really starts pushing itself faster and faster as it goes.
But I did enjoy the boss battles and put it in 3rd or 2nd best structured story. While I don't care about musashi and hate what they did to inshun so soon shinousa like ubw just had a better structure in story and overall cast while Salem has a better main cast the story was meh in times
Sorry if you already said it, but the fun detail about Matthew Hopkins is Samson himself says that Matthew didn't live during the salem witch trials. Even though it's not brought up in the singularity, to me it's like he gets summoned like servants do.
Indeed. He's one of the "guests" raum lets in.
i love Fujimaru Ritsuka wearing Circus Costume.
Fanfic writers should rejoice at this Singularity because for you guys, Nasu's just effectively said "all the rules are arbitrary and meaningless if you wander out far enough"
To think that an ero-game can push so many people to do research on all these historical and mythical figures
That rope scene.......
I have nightmares just from that Q-Q
Well if solomon is actually have been erased from the history how could the people in Salem still remember him even if it is a parallel world?
Servants can because it's part of their own history. It's weird.
Cersei and Medea. Is there really a difference in skill between them? Especially considering they're both nieces of Hecate
Well…Circe is much more powerful. Like…MUCH more powerful.
love it or hate this pseudo singularity u cant denied the kickass battle theme
I personally found this singularity to be boring, but i also grew up reading books and seeing movies related to the Salem witch Trials so i was able to see most the dramatic stuff coming. But i still give props to FGO for trying something different and for people who aren't American it was likely an interesting look at one of our many darker times.
0:59 nope. That’s not where the horror comes from.
The creatures are only tools to tell the story. The horror comes from what humans are capable of. Which is why Salem captures it so well.
Ah yes... imprison a goddess of magic. TOTALLY a good idea.
Now we going to lostbelt
We need more servants with the ability to enter and leave singularities at will
29:53 anyone who watches Salem the series will recognize that guy as George sibley!! Or at least a guy who looks like him
I dont think i have been scared of a story by its music alone
When I first saw the noose I was like "holy shit... o.o"
Shit really got real with Salem
While I enjoyed this singularity, there was still a lot of the typical mistakes made by people who read only a few of HP's works. For example Cthullu is not an "outer god" the Outer gods are only the beings who reside beyond the final gate. These "outer Gods" are beings that reside beyond all things time?, space? , existence itself? none of these apply to the outer gods, for they reside in the court of Azathoth. Cthullu is simply a "great old one" basically really fuckin old beings, while he is powerful in comparison to us mortals, he is nothing but a speck not even registering in the "conciousness" of an outer god (if we can call it that.) even the weakest of the outer gods Nyalarthotep (who is seen as simply the messenger of the court of Azathoth) is infinitely powerful, in fact the only limiting factor in their power is simply the avatar they choose to create for themselves.
This arc kinda scared the crap out of me because Solomon's former wife and Sanson, who are literally imbude with superpowers was executed by hanging by a bunch of paranoid single minded religious villagers.
I mean they could've just kicked their asses but no they choose to remain clean. This arc shows that even though you are literally poweful you are still weak in some ways that can seal your fate and this is what the Demon God Raum did by placing the Chaldeans in this kind of grimdark situation.
Lastly Sanson's death kinda reminded me of Archer Shirou's life in UBW who despite being a superhuman tasked to save mankind he is hanged by the same humans that he saved by accusing him for being the reason why wars existed.
... I have a mild, simmering anger at having the Queen of Sheba becoming a slave...
It's supposed to be irritating.
@@otakudaikun I know😤...
Hit the nail on the head, they did.
I wish Murasaki was around to help Hans and Shakespeare
Surprised we didn't ask Scheherazade for help since her speciality is using stories to stop people from wanting to kill you.
@@Ozraptor4 amen to that. I was wondering why I didn't think about her the too. I think it's because I had just finished reading tale of Genji.
That would explain Lovecraft's stifling xenophobia
I mean he always had that. And was also not right in the mind
Great vid
Abby is a keyblade wielder, try and change my mind
H.P. L when DW, but in all seriousness Salem is one of my favorite chapters in all of EoR, and may the falsed accused of those witch trials may have peace.
