Trek canon doesn't have much nice to say about 21st century humans. Q points it out in so many words during the trial in "Encounter at Farpoint" but the canon is littered with past-Earth dystopia, especially DS9: "Past Tense" parts 1 and 2. The Trek canon Bell Riots took place in 2024...and it wouldn't shock me if something similar happens in the real world if current economic conditions turn into a full-blown recession and make even more people in cities homeless and desperate. I see it every day on my way to work; Third Avenue in Seattle is a de facto "Sanctuary District". And World War III? We may be seeing the first rumblings of it in Ukraine and possibly before too long in Taiwan. April 5, 2063 is coming. Let's just hope Trek canon has it right because another notable futuristic series has a thing or three to say about October 23, 2077...
