Even though I've recently bought a new car (a Toyota Corolla touring sport, seeing as you're asking, Nobby) I'm addicted to your reviews. They're all masterpieces of how to do car reviews that are genuinely helpful while being entertaining. And even if I won't be looking to change my car for three years or so, watching your reviews is a great way of keeping in touch with what's available. Great work. Many thanks.
Great review, thanks. Seems like a good car, although the range could be better. For some reason here in Australia it works out 20k Euro cheaper, about A$78 000, so we’re getting a red one just like the review.
you can just ask google about your current range... Also it getting fixed, and in a later OTA they will add range and percent together as people wish for it
I tested a Ioniq5 the other day , can’t see how this Volvo is better , if its the badge well then fair enough , each to there own . The Volvo is handsome especially from the side profile . Keep it up Mark your brilliant.
Great review as ever Nobby, the thing I like most about your reviews is that you are very in depth about each car you cover. As for the Volvo well even in the North here it's going to be a bit too expensive for me and whilst I am at the present time more of a diesel driver too, I am also a realist in so far as the price of diesel here in the North is going up and showing no signs of reducing so even though I would prefer in 5 years time to remain with diesel I'm starting to think that electric might be a possibility especially as I'm not considering my next move to be for another 5 years minimum so who knows where battery tech will be at that point. My only hope is that despite the cheap running costs of an electric car that the price comes down for all especially if mass adoption is the key aim of the governments and the range goes up because if it's going to take several hours to charge then I want it to be doing a similar distance in range as my diesel Kadjar which is around 600 miles (close to 1000k) and also preferably in as short a time as possible and that tech at the minute seems to be non-existent. As for the car itself it looks very well finished but even as by your own key observations there are better options for similar or less money.
@@NobbyOnCars that's still too expensive and with a smaller battery it's going to go even less distance meaning more time wasted charging. Y'see that's my main problem with electric cars, you're paying a fortune for a car that tho' cheaper to run will go less distance on its chosen method of propulsion which in this case is electric than the equivalent petrol or diesel version so apart from the environmental reasons and the cheaper fuel why would be my question. Like I said earlier tho' I will admit I am tempted, until the price comes down I'll be sticking with diesel.
Great review. Great car. Pity about that non grill nose though. Also a pity that Volvos investment in driver and pedestrian safety technology is subject to Irelands draconian and anti competitive motor tax masquerading as a registration fee.
Looks are subjective, but i personally think it looks much nicer than the Model Y. Also, it stands out more given how you see so many Tesla on the road nowadays. The only thing that's holding me back is the range. For the price, i expected a little more.
Great review Nobby. Deffo a dream option yet cheap inside finishes are shocking. Safety makes up for it. The processor on the mobile phone may be slow. A quicker phone will have google/ android auto responding like a bullet. Parking ticket holder from Škoda since Octavia Mk.1
Has to be the best designed 'compact' SUV in any 'guise'. Like comments before petrol still but it is obvious Volvo going full EV as planned. Here is the lesson that EV's can designed well. Enough of the jelly mould Tesla nonsense. Just stop it! If EV's are to become the default choice simply design as standard. As in the Corsa and 208. The silliness of the Zoes, Honda e and the like will be consigned to design folly. Back to the Volvo XC40, one of the best designed and built vehicles available. Thank you for an excellent, real world review.
Excellent video and excellent car too which unfortunately for me is let down hugely by its lack of range. It's super frustrating because this is a brilliantly designed vehicle but only 180 miles of range (if you're lucky) is simply not good enough. I recently bought a Kia Soul EV ...ok not directly comparable I know but it returns 250 real world miles after a full charge and it's about half the price of this XC40...!!. Why Volvo can't provided a kind of ''super ECO mode'' which extents the range when desired I just don't know. Or is that because they want to leave the door open for the larger, longer range, even more powerful (and expensive) models to come...!!..?.
I don’t think so, they’ve focused on going fully electric relatively soon but I’m sure lightning fast cars are not their priority. They’ve announced a single motored version of this now too which is a lot cheaper but still does a similar range.
@@NobbyOnCars I see...so even with less power and a single motor the range is about the same...!! I'm afraid the cynic in me still thinks the larger EV models to come will have more power and crucially have the desperately needed extra range too...expect very high price tags. Would anyone want to pay maybe £80k for something slower than this X40 ?...I think not.
Great review Nobby just watched the Q4 E-ton one you did also as they are the two cars I am stuck on to buy next. What one out of the two would you buy?
Yes definitely agree with you both if Eamonn Ryan is serious about reaching targets then 0 VRT is required, why did he scrap the 5,000 grant for cars over 60k, madness!!!!
Good video, but that is an outrageous price, was expecting you to say the range was up around 500km for that. If I want to have an argument with an annoying robot I have my phone. I don't think I could handle just having a % indicator, need to know how many kms are left on the battery.
What people still haven't understood is that you should compare the specs of a Volvo XC 40 R. to a Tesla Model X. The Volvo easily takes the price, except for the price. This Volvo is very moderately priced.
@@NobbyOnCars yeah it is smaller than a model y. I really like this car. But in the US (where i live) i would like to see the price 6k cheaper at least.

Thanks John, blown away by that! 👌🏻
I really like interiors of the current Volvos
I purchased one based on your video Thanks
Good review and one of the more concise and "to the point" reviews on UA-cam. Thanks for creating this!
Glad it was helpful!
Will get mine in august! Yeeeaah!!

Irish taxes on new cars, that’s the reason.

Great review again. It's a pity Saab did not get a similar support from the likes of Geely.
Finally a good Irish motoring channel. Well done
Cheers

They’ve just announced a smaller battery version that starts from €45k earlier today!

Very nice car, I like that vibrant red colour.
love your reviews 🐱👤
Another great review Mark....have ro say though that is a crazy price tag.
I love the styling of this car. Volvo never disappoints. I would go for the petrol model
great review, lovely car, but very expensive

You're spot on.
Great review, I’ve watched a few on this car and I just find the car blah.
Beautiful car and much better value than 68 iPhones!
That's one way of looking at it alright!
As a Porsche Boxster owner, it is a FROOT!

1....woohoo. €68k, thats electrifying. The new Astras look nice for next year.
That’s crazy expensive! 😱 Shame as Volvos do have a certain attraction

The base model is massively less expensive in Sweden ;)
Desperately needs a single motor version - hopefully they will follow the polestar model and do the same.
coming 1st quarter 2022
from 45K!
@@NobbyOnCars thanks for the info!! - I’m out of my xc40 August 22 so fingers crossed! 🤞

Lovely bus, but seriously when will the cars be reasonably priced, €60k 😳
Great review Nobby just watched the Q4 E-ton one you did also as they are the two cars I am stuck on to buy next. What one out of the two would you buy?
I think the Audi with some spec could be better value but it won’t be anywhere near as quick as this!
Not quite keen on grill-less EV cars XC40 no exception. Thanks for the video! Is this a conspiracy by all car manufacturers?
No, they just don’t need the same levels of air so no need for a grille
Thanks for the review, dont agree with you on it being expensive as any awd electric suv is in the mid 60k eg ID4 GTX is 68k and ioniq 5 awd is 67k
They’re also too expensive. There needs to be 0 VRT on EVs.
Agree with the need to put 0 VRT on EVs . We need to make them more attainable to make people switch sooner.

Why do we never see "The Tesla Y is really good but really expensive!"?
It needs to be Apple CarPlay
You could get his and hers Skoda iv,s for that money 😳
Not in Ireland you couldn’t but you could have two Golfs!
Nice review but for me it would have to be the ioniq5 every time,a better looking car and interior design is far superior.
Love it! ❤️

The EV disappoints because the range is dreadful....so petrol is certainly the best option at the moment unfortunately.
