Great comparison👍👍👍💪 After having owned a Tesla model 3 for 11 month I sold the car, simply to poor build quality, I simply got absolutely no quality feeling…important to me when paying 55.000 euro for a car. And I spent far to much time booking service appointments and talking to Tesla personal that new less about ev’s and there own product than I do. I have now ordered a Polestar 2 after having taken the car on two test drives at my local dealer - it’s such great fun 👍. And unlike the Tesla Model 3 I got a really good ‘quality feeling’ being inside the polestar 2 and driving it - and just as important, with the polestar 2 I get the customer service from Volvo, meaning I can call them via phone(which hopefully will be much less relevant with the polestar 2 compared to the TM3)👍.
Very helpful review. I’m in the market for an EV and find the Volvo selections are most appealing. Although last week I visited a Polestar showroom, impressed! Even my friend who owns the Tesla 3 was too, his car feels like cheaply made shoes to me. The fit and finish of both Polestar and Volvo are far superior for the price point. Very cool German accent😉
Great review, Bernd! Touches on key important points, giving good detail, without getting lost in the weeds. I will be sure to follow your videos. My wife bought the XC40 Recharge about 7 months ago and still loves it. Quality vehicle; puts the Tesla build quality to shame. I was also able to test drive the Polestar 2 while my wife’s car was in for service. Feels a lot like the XC40, but just a little sportier. Being tall (about the same height as Bernd) I felt a little cramped in the P2, especially in the back seat. The P3 sounds like it will be roomier, so I may pick up one of those when they’re released. I’ll be sure to check out your hopefully upcoming P3 review! Thanks!
Polestar 2 is just so easy on the eye. Test drove both, and my Polestar is delivered next week. I had a home charger installed which makes it a no-brainer, especially when having considered the Tesla Model 3.
Excellent review. Answers a lot of questions in my mind and offers two non- Tesla alternatives. The Polestar for me I think because it looks more appealing and has the x factor that paying for an electric needs. Good that you barely mentioned the Tesla 3 as well. I have subscribed to your channel for more content. Thanks
Thank you for such a great review of both cars side by side. I originally was sold on the Polestar 2 as my next car and first EV, but as a current Volvo owner, I also love the XC40 Recharge. Now I am not sure what to do. However, I do see myself purchasing either of these two cars in the near future. I just need to decide if I want a sedan (like my S60) or a small SUV. Decisions, decisions. But then again, the Volvo C40 Recharge will be here soon, so may need to see that in person before I make my final decision.
Bjorn Nyland has tested the XC40 intensively and also the C40, he mentioned that he didnt like the high right/feel and suspension on the XC but loved the suspension setting on the C40 and (!) that the reason for that probably being the +- 4 cm lower suspension on the C40. I have the same decision to make, and I am currently 'have' to choose between the C40 and the polestar 2 (as second car and renewal on the e-golf).
In the U.S., the Volvo is a little less expensive, though I like the looks of the Polestar a bit more. They're very close, so I'd have to see which one I bonded with on a test drive.
Excellent comparative review. Thanks. Comparing EVs, the elephant in the room is always Tesla's supercharger network; if it weren't for that, I don't think any of their models would make my shortlist. Regarding the two cars in the review - Polestar every time; looks great and is an EV designed from the ground up, as opposed to retro-fitted into an existing ICE car. My short list is currently the Polestar and the Jaguar iPace, plus one of the Tesla SUVs(that supercharger network again).
There are few reasons I'd buy this Volvo over other EV offerings. 1)Availability - No website clicking ordering short supply nonsense like Kia Hyundai 2) Quality - It seems to be well put together compared to a model 3/Y or any Tesla. 3) Performance - It is great better than other offerings for the price. 4) Practicality - That xc40 is much more practical than the EQA.
Danke für ein gutes Programm. Mich würde interessieren wo die Fahrzeuge hergestellt werden und insbesondere die Batterie des CO2 Ausstosses wegen. Gregor
How would you compare the real world range of the two? Is there a material difference in the real world range due to somewhat better aerodinamics of the Polestar 2?
Looking at both cars in Australia. A great review except we cant drive at 210kph (legally) in Australia, plus the roads won't handle that speed.Have driven both Volvo & Polestar, plus a Tesla 2 & Hyundai Ioniq. Really hard to differentiate between the two in our case as size doesn't matter as much. Tesla was discounted because of the poor finish, Hyundai was good, but performance wasn't comparable and the only fault with the Polestar is the higher than usual console, but certainly not a deal breaker. Ultimately, a great review, not biased, but it still made the choice between the Volvo & Polestar a difficult one to make. Two great cars.
Thanks. I would choose the Polestar. I like a sedan better than the higher up SUV/crossover vehicle. I also think the interior is more modern and sleek in the Polestar although you say the Volvo feels more premium (probably due to the leather in the Volvo?). I look forward to the Polestar introducing the Precept as a production car as it is also a sedan. And I look forward to the next-gen Volvos as the current ones, while elegant, are now a very familiar design. Still, if you need the space and want a more room back seat, the xc40 is then more practical.
No true that C40/XC40 only sells online, at least not in Sweden. You can still buy it from dealers and negotiate prices. It is also a lot of companies that have discounts with car brands so as an employee of such companies you can get the discount from the car dealership. It seems to be a gimmick spread by Volvo that they only sell it online. Not true! You can also get real winter tires instead of the terrible all-round tires that comes with the Volvo models by going to the dealer. Overall, really liked the review. Good job!
Polestar for me. Prefer the design and would probably never need the space of the XC. Also like the idea of a new brand/design and wonder whether polestar will be more proactive about over the air updates because leading the way above Volvo on EV’s.
Ever noticed that every test drive and image of the Polestar 2 shows the nice big wheels and gold callipers and the dual motor version. This is a £5000 option for the wheels (performance pack) and another £6000 for the dual motor version which most people aint going to pay for. How about some real test of the car most people will buy!
Love it! ❤️ In this year the 100th anniversary of Chinese Communist Party #CCP, thrilled to know Volvo is now owned by Geely of China #MadeInChina2025 #BeltAndRoad #BeijingOlympics2022 #OccupyMars2024 #中國最強大 🇨🇳 🇨🇳 🇨🇳

Have you bought any of these? I'm in the same situation. Cheers!

This is exactly the thorough and competent comparison I was looking for, thank you.
Thanks for doing this review in English, and such a great review
Hello from USA! Great and thorough interview
Thank you very much!
Tried both - the XC40 is the clear winner in our opinion. Feels more open - the polestar has a high center console that makes the space feel tight.
Great review, Bernd!

Excellent and fascinating comparative review - thank you!
Very many thanks!
"It doesn't look like a spaceship". Yes, this is exactly what I like about the look of the Polestar. The design is really great.
Great to see new reviews coming - excellent review and two great cars
Great review and comparison. I would choose the polestar 2. Love the look of it 👍
I think both cars look very appealing looks-wise, but I'm a fan of Volvo's design. From these 2, I'd definitely pick the Polestar 2.

My choice is obvious - Polestar 2
Thank you very much for watching.
Obvious? 🤔

Well, after an S60 a Polestar 2 would be logical :-) But yes, have a look to both in person. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
I used to have a 2006 S60R and it was my favorite car.
@@asiaautoambassador9810 Yes however the Polestar 2 is smaller than the s60.

@@hv7978 what did u decide between xc40 or c40. Thanks

I hope one of them brings out a station wagon on the platform in the near future, a SW like a mash up of the polestar 2 and the V60/V90
Me too, I've got a 2020V60 Cross Country can't wait for the T8 RECHARGE version.
Danke für ein gutes Programm. Mich würde interessieren wo die Fahrzeuge hergestellt werden und insbesondere die Batterie des CO2 Ausstosses wegen. Gregor

This is a really excellent video. Thank you for doing the comparison.
Very nice review
Thank you!

do u think the android infotainment system is way superior to the touch sensus on the older volvos?
Am I correct that the XC40 panoramic roof is an extra and not standard unlike the Polestar?
It’s not standard on the Polestar 2. It only comes with the Plus package.
It also opens and has power shade just like all other Volvos.
Which small SUV has the highest seating position?
There are too many... I don‘t know.
What color is the polestar in the video? Snow (white) or magnesium?
Polestar interior in an XC40. Perfect. Oh dear...
If the Polestar came in the same awesome sage green as the Volvo, it would be an easy choice!
I love the sunroof that opens with a sunshade too. And it fits in the garage easy.
That green is lovely, I agree. I ordered the Polestar in Thunder, and I think it's the nicest colour to show off the car.
Ever noticed that every test drive and image of the Polestar 2 shows the nice big wheels and gold callipers and the dual motor version. Having drive both, would take the Volvo. The polestar is great but its cramped.
Looks nice P2 but is SO cramped in the inside. It's basically UNUSEABLE for large people
Don't be silly.
The Polestar just because it's probably cheaper
Go with Volvo for safety
Polestar IS Volvo.
Love it! ❤️
