Here's Yenne Lee playing Fernando Sor's "Introduction and Variations on a Theme by Mozart, Op. 9" on a beautiful 2004 Pepe Romero cedar and maple classical guitar. Recorded at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.

With courage and confidence, she addresses the difficult extensions of the left hand, in the exposition; then, proceeds to deliver a series of variations, each with its own challenges. What I admire about the guitar is how the intonation is consistent throughout; admirably supporting the performer's need for delicacy of nuance and dynamic response. This performance is truly a gift.

I have tried to play this piece when I was young, but never got success. I have this song on CD many years ago and know it was beautiful. Now I see this on a UA-cam screen, now I know the difficultly level. This song resonate in my mind for many years, now I have the courage to retry it again, but I think I can never play at such a level.
I thought the same, but now look at me go! I practised for a while now and still fixing some parts here and there, but everyday I'm closer to make it sound at least similar to Yenne's interpretation. And I think that just trying to play (which I thought impossible for me) is already a success!
I think understanding the task at hand is half the battle... go for it!

this interpretation is so far the cleanest and the most versatile i have ever heard, it deserves most views than 141,360.

I don't like the way this has been transcribed. It's a bit far from Sor's recommendations for my liking.

Fantastic piece, fantastic interpretation, and - as a side note - fantastic audio quality! The audio engineers of this recording have done a much better job than those of many other videos of this famous piece here on UA-cam.

Once I listen to someone's playing this piece, I always come back to here. Yenne's interpretation stays my favorite. It is particularly amazing to see how easy it looks for her to play this. I hope to see her performance more on youtube.

Nigel Foley,I agree,but just for the point of sharing our admiration of both the music and the player,I was first introduced to Fernando Sor's 20 studies for guitar,in the 1960's,as a really young Hank Marvin/Shadows electric guitarist.
I bought a record,[33rpm Vinyl..!!],in the mid 1960's,by a truly well-respected classical guitarist called Alirio Diaz.[who,at,that time,I hadn't heard of...!]
I was a bit disappointed to hear the first track,as I expected to hear the sound of only one guitar,and this track sounded as if two guitars were being played.
I fell in love immediately with the track,still thinking ....two guitars!!
The track was "Recuerdo De La Alhambra"...![Aaaahhh..ignorance is bliss!]
Alirio Diaz also played this track,[by Yenne]
on the album,and since those days in the mid-1960's ,my musical interests were shared between pioneering rock and roll..and classical music of all genres..biased towards guitar,and solo Cathedral pipe organ works.
The beauty of Sor's music,was it's clarity,which made things a little easier for a self-taught electric guitarist to learn by ear,solely by listening constantly to the tracks,and slowing the record player down where necessary on faster passages,to learn them,[on classical guitar of course!!]
I only learned bits and peices of the different studies for guitar,but nevertheless,I always found immense joy and satisfaction at trying to play this music...now,as an arthritic 75 yr old,I still love to plonk on as I always have done!
Try and find this piece by either Alirio Diaz,or Oscar Ghilgia..I am sure you will find them a joy to hear also!

Excellent interpreted !!! this piece is very nice and a lot of changements in all the positions of the classical guitar to make the variations of the music; for this reason, that is the piece to pass the last exam to get the title of the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona.
