‘I’m only faking when I get it right’. Damn. ❤
I was around 20 when I first heard this and I knew exactly what he meant. Felt that way my whole life.
Chris Cornell as rock royalty - best vocalist in rock history IMO. RIP!!
Well, he and Freddie Mercury are to tight to call. Freddie has a broader range, I believe.
Yes, I agree, Freddie was awesome too. Both had great range but very different styles. Might be a coin flip, just depends on your preference musically. In this case, I personally lean towards the darker, heavier tones from Chris.
@Gordy63 I lean towards Chris, too, but had to give Freddie his props.
ive heard both live.. ima have to go with Chris.. both are worthy of the GOAT title however
@user-si8pi5qu2n I got to see Chris doing a solo tour on the 25th anniversary of the first sound garden album in a 200-person venue in NJ. Friggin awesome show. Sadly, I never got to see Freddie.
When Chris passed, I feel like there were so many songs/lyrics that showed his state of mind, but we missed it 💔 R.I.P. Chris Cornell, no one sings like you anymore
I don't think anyone "missed" what Chris wrote about and how it pertained to his mental health, state of mind, hid struggles with loss, addiction, fame, love and humanity in his eyes and his heart.
People choose what they want to hear, most of the time. Also, so much music or I should say, so many lyrics written in the history of music and up to this very day are about the human struggles of those same issues I listed above that the listening audience takes it as just a story or a poem, at face value and they don't want to or aren't engaged enough and have no reason to question the singer/writer of the lyrics about his/her actual battles with depression, angst, fear, calls for help, admitting weaknesses and the spiral down a dark path.
Then when that person's life ends in tragedy, some are shocked and surprised, which is a sign of not paying attention to the actual songs written, or people have a reaction of, oh my God we should have seen the signs but we just didn't think it could be possible because they have fame and money and that brings happiness and fullfilment, when it doesn't do either. It's more weight and pressure on the person.
Everyone should know by now that pain, sadness, hardship, loneliness, etc... are the things that make great songwriting and the writer almost always pays the price at an early age and we lose them as a living person but have their music/lyrics to listen to over and over to look for the obvious signs that have always been there but no one cared enough to do something helpful for that person.
It’s heartbreaking that he helped so many of us, but in the end we couldn’t help him. There’s always going to be a part of me that will never get over this loss.
@@Grungycat67 --- I agree. The loss of Chris is a tragedy that has effected so many people and not only in the loss of his talent in music and songwriting and singing, but his voice in the fight for kids that are abused, homeless, being trafficked, and his other social endevours that were positive for humanity. That's why there are questions and facts that show some evidence, not enough solid, but real evidence that Chris's death may have been caused by foul play, not only for his money but to keep the giant, well funded, well supported by government and law enforcement of child trafficking. When you add into that possibility that Chris's widow, Vickie, or Vicky, I can't remember how she spells her name, from what has been spoken about her by people that knew she and Chris that it wasn't beyond her to be a willing participant in ending Chris's life because it would be a win win situation for her. And then add the death of Chester, being Chris's best friend also a partner in exposing the trafficking corruption among government, law enforcement, and I forgot to add the last time I listed these but the celebrity aspect of that huge problem going on in our own country that always seems to get shut down when there is a breakthrough like with Jeffrey Epstien, Gislane Maxwell, the Clintons and Clinton Foundation, Oprah and the thousand or so children still unaccounted for missing from the Maui fire, and the list goes on and on but it always ends before any real arrests are made and before any names are made public with full evidence. They off Epstein, convict and imprisoned Maxwell for being the provider of underage victims and they have her client list but not one client is arrested. The people who are the actual criminals, that if they were average Tom, Dick, and Harry would have been rounded up immediately and publicly convicted and thrown in prison with much fanfare and media celebration nonstop for years but none of that is happening because of who the guilty parties are. Chris and Chester got too close to the Sun with what they uncovered and both of their deaths are questionable as to what really happened and there are no coincidences in real life.
That is what is the most tragic aspect of Chris's and Chester's lives, above their personal demons and living with all that they suffered during their lives before and after fame and fortune.
This song vocals hits so hard because you know Chris felt it.
So excited to see you react to Soundgarden. They were one of the big five, and a huge part of my teens/twenties. RIP Chris, Layne, Scott, Kurt. Let’s all keep a collective eye on Eddie. ❤
yeah, eddie is all we have left. . . although, meat puppets , dont forget them.
@@kf8346Not what people consider..."the big five" but yea...I miss Shannon Hoon the most myself...so underrated and passed right when they exploded onto the scene...still my "go-to" band when I wanna wallow in a bucket of sadness...
I feel like I saw Mudhoney playing the West Seattle Street Fair a few years ago. Another fave.
Mudhoney was in the eighties.. after Andy Wood passed Pearl Jam was formed. Eddie was from San Diego I think? Pearl Jam did release a new record and sounds pretty damn good. I’m going to see Jerry Cantrell again in August. Great singer!
@@anthonyfoltz2534Eddie is from Chicago.
If ya want to hear Cornell's voice open up, 'The Day I Tried to Live' is badass. They were fun to have around as a teen, and fun as shit to see. RIP Chris.
Chris Cornell also member of AudioSlave and Temple of the Dog. Both great bands and a solo career
Not my favorite song of his, but such an amazing artist. One of my favorites happens to be, *"I Am the Highway"* 🛣️... RIP Chris 😔
Hunger strike. Top 5
@seanpatton7406 my favorite too brother. That whole album is still played and top 5 for me
"I'm only faking when I get it right" Brutally honest and vulnerable.
One of the best vocalists ever. No one sings like him. I got to see him in kc 3 days before he died. I’ll be grateful for that forever.
I'm not one that's easily brought to tears. The day Chris Cornell passed, I cried. That voice will never be replicated. It's a lucky thing to live in an age we can continue to hear this amazing voice.
Soundgarden- Burden in my Hand. I was going through a dark period when this song came out and it still digs those feelings up when I hear it. It's right on par with Fell on black days- haunting, beautiful and powerful.
One of my favorite tracks
I hope that you are in a better place now.🙏🏻✝️
The one snd only Chris Cornell. Keep going with Soundgarden.
A masterpiece from a great grunge band. Cornell’s voice is legendary.
I'm glad that you noticed the time signature
One of the purest voices in music history. RIP Chris Cornell.
One of the greatest singers in music history, period. And a great lyricist too.
Still not over the sudden passing of Chris Cornell. What a great artist. That voice. His solo performances were fantastic too. Burden in my Hand is one of my favs.
The time signature is mostly 6/4 with some 4/4 parts connecting the different sections.
Soundgarden play with odd time signatures so creatively. The album this tune is from (Superunknown) is a prime example.
One of the greatest bands ever.
Chris loved playing in 7s as well.
Amazing to get a vocalist, like Chris Cornell, and Eddie Vetter at the same time. Listen to Pearl Jam : "Black " right after this for an amazing vocal knockout combo.
Miss his voice! It helped me through some dark times as a teen and beyond. Chris is one of my favorite vocalists and a special soul we lost too soon! R.I.P. Chris❤️🔥
RIP Chris Cornell. He and Chester Bennington were very close. Chester took his life on Chris’ birthday. 💔
One of my favorite singers ever. Chris Cornell was absolutely 🔥I got to meet him 2x’s and he was completely humble, polite and engaging. Rest easy my friend.
Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. The holy trinity of grunge.
#LegitTho
My three favorite bands from this era.
Bro missed out Nirvana
As much as we loved Kurt, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden really was the stand out voice of the 90s and early 2000s. All of the groups he was in were soectacular and his voice was richer with age. We lost a legend and im still not over his death.
Chris Cornell, next level vocalist.
I LOVE Soundgarden and Chris Cornell is fantastic, one of the best!! 💜✌️RIP Chris💜
Chris Cornell, gorgeous voice, gorgeous man. May he rest in peace. 💙
My favorite thing about Soundgarden is the odd time signatures, like that you got that right away
This is a pretty straightforward 6/4 though... transitioning into a 10/8 which is definitely interesting. But most of the song is pretty standard.
I remember reading an interview where they realized people were having a hard time grooving because of the weird time signatures, so they eased up on all that..
I grew up in Seattle we used to see these guys and A Chains STP all over the place
You should do Slaves and BullDozers by them
Best rock vocal ever
The flow of Slaves and Bulldozers into Jesus Christ Pose on Badmotorfinger is so good.
…New Damage as the LP closer!
Im liking before I even watch because I know this will be good..
also of course, RIP Chris
My favorite song from Soundgarden. I never get tired of this one.
Both bands were shot out of the same cannon. Seattle had a distinct sound at the time -- grunge was a subset of that. Nirvana was playing the Crocodile Cafe my second year of college -- I remember a guy coming home one night saying, "I just heard this fucking amazing band. They're called Nirvana." Around the same time I stumbled into a free Soundgarden concert at the Seattle Center. A year later, the scene blew up.
Love, love Soundgarden!!!!
Just thought I would give a shout out to the Dave Matthews Band for making into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, finally!!!!!
Saw Chri and Soundgarden in Charlotte two weeks before he died, thank you for that! He feels all his music and lyrics! 🥲
Such a great and influential band. Never saw Chris in concert, which I regret.
No one sings like you anymore 😢 Rest easy Chris
I absolutely LOVE Soundgarden! And I'm lucky enough to have seen them twice in concert!! Chris Cornell had one of the greatest Rock & Roll voices of all time!!!!
Their songs that are in my Rock & Roll Favorites Playlist are:
1. Jesus Christ Pose
2. Outshined
3. Burden In My Hand
4. Room A Thousand Years Wide
5. Black Hole Sun
6. Blow Up the Outside World
7. Searching With My Good Eye Closed
8. Spoonman
9. Pretty Noose
10. The Day I Tried to Live
11. Rusty Cage
12. Mind Riot
13. My Wave
14. Slaves & Bulldozers
"Slaves and Bulldozers" is by far the best showcase of Chris Cornells' vocal range. So much so, that it was dropped from live performances years ago, because it was so difficult to sing live. Absolutely killer track. Give it a listen, if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed.
The last song I heard them do live - they were using it as a closer on that last tour.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Nonsense, they played Slaves and Bulldozers up until 2017 right from 2010.
For some amazing vocals and a killer rhythm, check out The Day I tried to Live. Also Blow up the outside, Burden in my hand and Outshined are all great to check out too
Soundgarden and Chris Cornell are essential rock
Love Soundgarden, love Chris, one of greatest rock voices ever!!💜RIP Chris!!
Chris had the voice of an angel and was the voice of a generation. I hope you cover more of his music. Also PLEASE more Puscifer 💚
Chris Cornell is one all time greatest voices. Listen to hi in AUDIOSLAVE
Incredible album
I love how 2 seconds after he compared them to Nibbana, Chris flips up to a falsetto like only HE can do
faxx
Chris Cornell is a poet and melody master with the most amazing vocals ever! Every band he's been in and his solo career. So many incredible songs out there. I only find people listening to "Billie Jean" and "Nothing Compares To You". His catelog is mindblowing.
“I wasn’t ready!” This is why I come to your channel again and again, your reaction are the purest !!!❤❤❤
You just witnessed the best voice in Rock ever.
Soundgarden - Burden in my Hand
Such a damn shame to lose an incredible artist, beautiful soul, to the demon of addiction and depression.
Congrats!! You've just discovered Chris Cornell!
Would love to see you react to Outshined! Completely different vibe. It was earlier in their catalogue and it’s hard! The vocals are always on point, and the opening riff is so good it’s filthy!! ❤
So many songs you absolutely have to hear from Soundgarden & Audioslave!! A very deep dive into an amazing rabbit hole 🫶🏻🔥♥️🎸🎤
My kids were teens during this time of the greatest music ever created. Chris Cornell was tremendously gifted. This was the grunge decade of music . We were graced with great lyrics and talented musicians during this time. One doesn’t ever get used to listening. Rest in peace .
You're such a 90's kid. Doesn't matter when you were born. You're one of us.
Ironically, after the recent Eclipse this Song rapidly rose to #1 on the Billboard Charts,
becoming Soundgarden’s first #1 Hit, 30yrs after it was released.
Interesting Read recently with Soundgarden lead guitarist Kim Thayil disclosed how the arpeggios penned by frontman Chris Cornell for this song posed a unique challenge, so he told Chris to play it. Which he did. Flawlessly. RIP Chris Cornell.
Chris was as real as they come.
There's your life before you heard Chris Cornell sing, and there's your life after. He was a one of one. Such a great band.
Best Singer/Songwriter of the 90s/00s/10s.
Soundgarden has ALWAYS been one of my favs!! RIP CHRIS CORNELL. so many bro, so many great underrated songs you will love.
What an amazing song. I've loved this song since it came out.
I've listened to Soundgarden my whole life, Chris Cornell is one of the greatest voices in the history of rock. I recommend everything they've produced, they do not miss. Blow Up the Outside World, Burden in My Hand, Black Rain, Kickstand, Pretty Noose, The Day I Tried to Live, Spoonman, My Wave, Outshined, Like Suicide, Superunknown, 4th of July, Limo Wreck, Head Down, Fresh Tendrils, I could go on. I wish I could be hearing all of this for the first time, so enjoy it!
Chris was such a beautiful soul, and, of course, amazing singer. The day he died I lost something, seriously. He spoke to a lot of us who don't feel like they belong. I really miss him
Great reaction Polo!! Soundgarden is a VERY worthy deep-dive! RIP Chris Cornell - one of the finest vocalists ever, not just in the 'grunge' genre! This is such a wonderful song.
HIGHLY recommend: Like Suicide, Searching With My Good Eye Closed, Jesus Christ Pose, Outshined, Rusty Cage, 4th Of July, Down On The Upside, By Crooked Steps, Been Away Too Long...so many amazing tracks to check! Cheers!
This is my all time favourite Soundgarden song.. So beautiful, yet powerful.. 🖤🎶
~ Rock In Peace Mr. Cornell ~
Chris Cornell I miss you terribly! Best voice EVER!
❤Chris Cornell, my favorite grunge vocalist, killer voice period. Sound Garden ROCKS, the album Bad Motor Finger got me through the dark days of highschool - Rusty Cage!
Black hole sun!! SPOONMAN ! Great stuff!!❤️💜
So great to see you get into them Polo. Their atmospheric, innovative riffage, singing and instrumentation made them standouts out of the gate.
Listen to Switch Opens, Pretty Noose, Rhinosaur, Rusty Cage, Limo Wreck…they never repeated themselves and had such a tasty vibe.
This is one of the best grunge songs ever. It is a ballad that kicks you in the face and takes you to that place you try to avoid but return to every time life reminds you are but a speck of dirt.
Also from Seattle, same time as Nirvana. Such a powerful song, always goosebumps!
Chris Cornell was a rare talent, who I think will be remembered, now that he’s being recognized by this generation.
One of my favorite Soundgarden tunes. Absolutely timeless. Such depth and feeling in this song. And it just sounds so cool. Great reaction!
My 2 personal favorite from Soundgarden are Power Trip and Mailman. Both give me chills, and draw me into his world.
Soundgarden: Loud Love - try that one. Awesome!!!!
This is such a great song. I love Soundgarden so much. I got to see them live in Atlanta 30 years ago. The best show ever.
"Burden in my hand"..... Soundgarden's best
I can’t explain how much Chris’s lyrics and in different bands affected my childhood in the 90’s and living close to Seattle. This is the favorite. I have this song tattooed on me 20 yrs later.
Everything Chris Cornell touched is gold. He will always be missed.
Chris Cornell was a vocal beast, poetic lyricist and tremendous songwriter. His work with multiple bands and on his own is loaded with strong bangers.
Soundgarden - Room a Thousand Years Wide. You won't be disappointed.
Here is me. Pink Floyd, Soundgarden, andTool came to me and rang in as my favorites in that order as they emerged. Happy to see you get to hear themfor the first time.. .wish I could again.
I never really considered myself a grunge fan, but this was a damned good tune and Chris Cornell was unquestionably in the top tier of Gen X rock vocalists.
Good band and I believe that Chris was probably the best rock singer of the 90's and there's quite a few great ones during that decade
Yes this is definitely heartfelt, absolutely about depression. It’s my favorite, but hard for me to hear knowing that my younger sister took her own life.
This has always been my favorite Soundgarden song
One of my favorite bands (with Led Zep and Tool). Still love Chris Cornell, saw him with Soundgarden, Audioslave, and his finest at a solo acoustic concert. He suffered mightily with depression. Bless his beautiful soul.
Grunge of the 90's was definitely a great change-up from the 80's... Loved growing up listening to these amazing songs/bands.. Enhanced the good Ole Days For Sure!!! My favorite band of the 90's, with Pearl Jam a very close second, especially since I got to chat it up with Eddie Vedder for about a half an hour during sound check at a concert I worked in 1992, what a cool, down to earth guy... You're going to SO ENJOY the grunge rabbit hole, AMAZING!!!
I used to listen to Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine when I started therapy - this song took me right back to those days..I'm still here - so that'ssomething..
Polo --- you should dive into early Soundgarden albums to get Chris when his voice was on fire, powerful, huge range and incredible. The band's music was raw and heavy and deep. Some of the best hard rock/ grunge/metal/even punk rock, you'll ever hear from any band.
Thanks for your sincere and obviously honest reaction videos.
Black hole Sun
Same album as Fell on Black Days. Another fire joint
I feel like you're one of the most genuine 'reactors' on UA-cam. I'm really enjoying your music journey, good stuff man
I saw Audioslave at Lollapalooza just as they were breaking out. Chris Cornell’s stage presence was electrifying. His ability to go from clean to nasty and back again with that voice was amazing and not “studio magic”.
Now you need to hear his version of "Billie Jean" ICONIC
🩷 You should definitely check out more Chris!!! His vocals are right up there with Layne & Chester's. And even Phil Anselmo back in the day.
Beyond The Wheel - Song 8 of 8 in Germany... You will be AMAZED!! Chris is amazing!!
You did a reaction with Chris Cornell
In Audio slave called " Like a Stone"
That you loved. RIP, Chris 💔
Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation.
Welcome to Chris Cornell. So much more to hear 💜
