I WAS WATCHING THE FINAL GAME OF THE 1980 WORLD SERIES WHEN TUG MCGRAW, CAME IN TO NAIL IT DOWN AND, WHEN HE STRUCK OUT WILLIE WILSON, I JUMPED RIGHT OUT OF MY CHAIR AND, HIT THE CEILING OF MY LIVING ROOM. MY MOM GOT OUT OF BED AND ASKED WHAT ALL THE RACKET WAS AND I SAID MOM, THE PHILLIES ARE THE WORLD CHAMPS. STEVE CARLTON AND, TUG MCGRAW WERE THE PERFECT PITCHING COMBINATION ON TUESDAY OCTOBER 21, 1980.
I HAVE BEEN A PHILLIES FAN FOR 56 YEARS AND WHEN THEY WON THE 1980 PENNANT ON SUNDAY,OCTOBER 12TH IT WAS THE GREATEST GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!

@@JJacob72 Not sure what this one is called but I believe it's a song from NFL films. NFL films did most of the songs on the 1980 Phillies season video. NFL films headquarters is literally 10 miles away from Philadelphia in New Jersey and so they got involved with MLB and the Phillies to help create the World Series and season film for their first ever championship.
@@JJacob72 Found it!.....It was used in NFL highlight films in the 1970's and 1980's. It's called STRINGS IN BONDAGE ua-cam.com/video/TpbCgnArYCQ/v-deo.html The attachment is probably the entire song. The portion you like begins at around 1 minute into it.
Good info. I do not understand why MLB does not make the team highlight stuff available for all to enjoy. If you don't release it, don't block people sharing. I also hope MLB keeps officially releasing their "This Week in Baseball" seasons. We only have 1977 so far.
A shame Harry Kalas wasn't allowed to call the World Series games live due to network rules at the time. He did the best he could with the re-created calls, but you can tell they lack the emotion they would've had if they'd been done in the moment
Two things about that NLCS: 1. Outside of Luzinski's game 1 bomb, there were no HR's the rest of the NLCS. You don't see too many if any series with 1 homer, even in the best-of-fives of that era. 2. I'm sure Philly was ecstatic to face Houston instead of a 3rd meeting in 4 years with Los Angeles
The 1980 national league championship series had so much more drama than a written Stephen King novel with 4 extra innings games included were twist and turns
Jack Clark game 6 homer in the 1985 national league championship series plus the dodgers left fielder throwing his glove down in disappointment & sending the cardinals to the world series
Do the Phillies ever plan to release the 1977 Phillies Full Season Highlights (yearbook) on dvd or blu ray? As a Phillies fan, I understand why it may not have been released. It was a heart breaking season for Philly. But I remember watching it as a kid and it was amazing!
Would be cool to see all of those old highlight films get released. Even though the '80 and '83 teams went farther, the '77 squad was probably the best Phillies team of that era
Especially when the Dodgers took away all the momentum that the Phillies had when they played in the NLCS - but after that the Yankees stood up and defeated the Dodgers in the World Series behind Mr. October Reggie's three homers ...
Great footage. I wish more footage of season highlight films would surface. MLB did not develop a institution a la NFL Films. ( Who appear to be involved in this Phillies project..note signature go-to camera shots).
On paper, the Phils were nowhere near the best team in the league. They won because they WERE a team, and played the best TEAM baseball. Love these Phils! Manny Trillo had the strongest arm in MLB history, I think. Teams never ran on him, and the Royals did.
Not sure what you are talking about....on paper? On paper, they look like a boat load of stars. Maybe not all in the 1980 season, but during their Phillies careers. All Stars during their career with the Phillies - Mike Schmidt, Larry Bowa, Manny Trillo, Pete Rose, Bob Boone, Greg Luzinski, Steve Carlton, Dick Ruthven, Tug McGraw Gold Gloves during their career with the Phillies - Mike Schmidt, Larry Bowa, Manny Trillo, Gary Maddox, Bob Boone, Steve Carlton Hall of Famers - Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Pete Rose (should be) 1980 MVP - Mike Schmidt, 1980 Cy Young - Steve Carlton 2 rookie players in 1980 received votes for the NL rookie of the year - Lonnie Smith, Bob Walk 4 players in 1980 received votes for the NL MVP - Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Bake McBride, Tug McGraw
Phillies lifer here, I've watched this video countless times, I will never get tired of watching my childhood heroes. this and the 2008 highlights

What is the name of the music cue at 3:33?
@@nicholasbruno9497 Don't know but it sounds good!
Fans with pipes and cigars in the stands. Classic
At 3:32, the awesome tune by Craig Palmer called "Energy" starts!!
Thanks for giving the name of the song. I didn't see it in the track list and it's the one song I wanted to know the name of.
@@90clemson You should be able to pull it up somewhere on UA-cam.
That is a great tune! Do you happen to know the name of the one at 53:21?

Great point. NFL film did an amazing job. MLB had ''This Week in Baseball'' with Mel Allen that was pretty awesome also.
