Gentle Healing for Tired Eyes: Natural Acupressure Remedies

  • Are your eyes feeling tired, strained, or burnt out? Don't worry, in today's video, we have you covered. We'll be sharing some simple and highly effective self-acupressure techniques that can help ease that eye strain and promote overall well-being.
    In our modern digital age, we're often glued to screens, from smartphones and TVs to tablets and computers. Eyestrain is at an all-time high, thanks to bright lights, screens, reading, air pollution, and fatigue, which all contribute to those uncomfortable eye sensations. Moreover, eyestrain can lead to neck and shoulder tension, resulting in those nasty headaches.
    Besides using these acupressure points to help relieve your eyestrain, remember to give your eyes a break from those troublesome triggers as well.
    Setup:
    This acupressure routine can be performed sitting or lying down. Make sure your hands are clean with well-trimmed nails, so you don't inadvertently hurt yourself. Perform these acupressure techniques with your eyes closed and incorporate some deep breathing exercises while working on these points. Hold each point for 1 minute at a time.
    Bladder 2:
    Our first stop is the Bladder 2 point. To locate this spot, use your thumbs. Gently place them on the upper ridge of your eye sockets, close to where your eyebrows begin and right around the bridge of your nose. You may feel those slight hollows under your thumbs. Press your thumbs gently upwards and hold this for a full minute. This point is also excellent for increasing blood circulation to your face, relieving stress, tension, and headaches.
    Stomach 2 and Stomach 3:
    To locate the Stomach 2 and 3 acupressure points, use your index and middle fingers. Begin by positioning your index fingers at the center of your cheeks, right below the lower ridge of your eyes. Imagine drawing an imaginary line down from the center of your pupils - that's where your index fingers should be placed. This point is Stomach 2.
    Next, position your middle fingers right beneath your index fingers, just underneath the cheekbone. This will be Stomach 3. You're creating a vertical line with your fingers, where the index fingers are above and the middle fingers are below. Hold these points for 1 minute.
    Besides relieving eye strain, these points can also improve facial complexion, promote relaxation, and provide digestive support for the body.
    Governing Vessel 16 and 24.5:
    Governing Vessel 16 can be found in the midline in the large hollow under the base of the skull. You can also trace the spine of the neck upwards before you reach the base of the skull and find the hollow there as well.
    Governing Vessel 24.5 is located in the midline of the face, between the eyebrows, and you may feel a slight divot in that spot. You can gently apply pressure on these two points at the same time and hold them for 1 minute.
    When combined, these points can help promote calmness in the body and improve mental clarity.
    Liver 3:
    The last point is the Liver 3 acupressure point, found on your foot, between your big toe and the second toe. If you slide your finger down from the space between those toes, you'll feel a depression where the bones meet. Hold these acupressure points together for 1 minute using your knuckles or fingers.
    This point can also help alleviate behind-the-eye headaches, decrease overall pain in the body, and improve digestion.
