My brother and I were 12-13 years old and attended one of his summer hockey camps, probably 1988. While we skated, our mom made small talk with a young woman sitting in the bleachers. It was Kathy Kerr. Tim took a shine to me and my brother and allowed us to attend an additional week of camp, free of charge. We weren’t poor but certainly not rich and it was a big deal. Mom continued to chat with Kathy and was genuinely upset when she passed away a year or so later. Soft-spoken guy who only seemed to raise his arms after a goal when a teammate scored. Class act all the way. I can’t help thinking the Oilers wouldn’t have broken my heart in 87 if Kerr was in the lineup.
1985 they lost in 5. 1987 they took the oilers to 7. I also think if pelle didn't die we win in 1987. Yes hextall stood on his head but damn pelle with 2 more years under his belt definitely would have gotten us a cup.
As a Gretzky fan and Oiler fan; I have nothing but respect for Tim Kerr, you, your brother, your Mother & the late Kathy Kerr. I had no idea that he had gone through all of this physical & emotional trauma :( I feel really really bad for him. What a courageous, honest human being. I am an instant fan of his now & forever. Take care all of you & I hope you enjoy peace & happiness for the rest of your days
Fantastic job on this as always. As a lifelong Flyers fan, I appreciate you profiling Tim Kerr. His numbers speak for themselves. He was a real force on those 1980s teams and was well respected by everyone that saw him play. The adversity and hardships that he faced made him more admirable in my eyes. In addition, to his skill level, nobody wanted to drop the gloves with him. He was strong as an ox and could really handle himself if need be. Great profile on a great guy. Outstanding work.
Tim Kerr should be a Hall of Famer. Both Pavel Bure and Cam Neely are similar examples of amazing players who had shortened careers due to injuries, yet were still inducted into the Hall of Fame. Tim Kerr had 4 50 goal seasons, and still has the record for power play goals in a season.
Wow what a tough guy I never heard of him and I love hockey to get a compliment like that that he was the most courageous player he'd ever seen those injuries must have been horrible that guy had had a tolerance for pain unbelievable he needs to be in the Hall of Fame he's got my vote
I can't thank you enough for your videos. I didn't start watching hockey until 2005 and learning about so many great players/stories of the past is one of my favorite parts of being a fan. Keep up the amazing work!
I'm so glad you are back posting videos. I love the trip down memory lane of all the great hockey players. Just wondering if you ever did a video on "the french connection" in Buffalo in the 70's?
Tim Kerr was rewarded with some HUGE playoff goals & seasonal totals for the extreme punishment he received in front of the net. He should also be rewarded for his exemplary skill, courage, character, and resilience with an induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. This is an excellent video on an outstanding player and person. Thanks for posting and sharing.
Wellllll Damn Son ! Been a minute . Although a Nordiques fans through and through , there were/are many players I admire on other teams . Tim Kerr being one of them . Hope you become more active again . Love the trips down memory lane . Ty .
I fell love with hockey 79- 80 living here in Philthadelphia. I was a huge, lifer ...still am Russian Hockey fan and Devils fan since 82. Now I grew up despising the flyers and always will. Kerr was one of the few players who could play, with his strength he was ahead of his time. I was a goalie for 17 years and the kids I played against wanted to be him or Siisslo....one of the few classy flyers. A Devils medic guide surveyed every player and Kerr was ranked the toughest to defend in front. As soon as he asked for more money and wife died....he was gone
A new Pro Hockey Alumni video! Nice! And a great topic, too - Tim Kerr. In my opinion, he should be in the HHOF. Also, had he been healthy throughout the playoffs, the Flyers would have won at least one Stanley Cup in the '80s.
So happy to see this channel come back, and even more to see Tim Kerr being the comeback video, he was such a talented player. So tragic about his wife and injuries too. But I hope he’s living a great life now.
Got my vote for sure, goal scoring machine he was and a tough guy to keep going year after year with all those injuries, wow, hall of fame for sure, ironman. Thanks for the video and memories.
He'd get my vote for HOF. He was dominant when healthy. During that four year span of 83-87 he was third behind Gretzky and Kurri in goals. In the 1989 playoffs he was scoring leader when he got injured: 24 points in 12 games. From 1983-1990, he averaged 0.71 goals per game, which is nearly Lemieux/Bossy numbers. And even that period of time included some injury troubles. Without all the injuries, he'd likely have been in the conversation of greatest goal scorer of all time.
Oh boy, growing up the Flyers were my team, all these names bring back so many memories. Tim Kerr, Brian Propp, Ilka Sinasalo, Per Erik Eklund, a young Peter Zezel, a young Ron Hextall, geez I could go on and on.. Thanks for doing these...puts a smile on my face..
Great player and a rock in front of the net. One funny story I read about Kerr was, back when he was playing with Philly, he was a teammate of Mark Howe, and the illustrious Mr. Hockey showed up to watch his son and team practice one afternoon. Gordie apparently went over and gave Kerr some interesting advice: "Wait until you are playing on a nationally televised game, then pick one guy on the other team, and go medieval on him. You'll score 10 more goals per year." Tim did something right as his goal totals jumped from 11 the year before to 54 after. Nice assist, Gordie.
I started watching hockey during the 1987 Stanley Cup finals, and never really got the opportunity to see Kerr play. Those of us who started watching in that season really missed out on players like Kerr and Mike Bossy who just happened to have their career-ending injuries right when we started watching. Good to see you back as well!!
I’m a Big Bruin fan though must say the Broad St. Bullies as they were nicknamed back in 70s& 80s were 1 fearsome team to play. Kerr was such a great all around player who I believe should be in the HOF. Huge fan of your videos & the trip down memory lane you bring. Most of your clips are 10-20 minutes but they are just packed with interviews, history, & especially love your news clippings which I always pause at to read. 3 👍👍👍up
What a story, great video. I'm a younger fan, so wasn’t aware of Tim. Tough as nails. And I must say, "The Sultan of The Slot" is my new favourite nickname!
Greetings from Finland. 🇫🇮 I've been looking for quality hockey-content and this channel has been the best. Thorough, original, well-narrated - just my cup of tea! Hope you keep making these!
Grew up in the Delaware Valley with those 80s Flyers teams. Big Tim Kerr was a machine. If it wasn't for his injuries, he would have easily been a 500 goal scorer. Great video!
Hockey in the 80s were like playoff hockey now - tough, hard hitting but with much more clutching, grabbing and stickwork allowed. The way Kerr played it was amazing he lasted as long as he did. I remember being amazed that he could be cross checked to the ice a couple of times and still maintain net presence.
As a steadfast Rangers fan, I despised Tim Kerr and the Flyers while simultaneously dreading his shifts on the ice. Thank you PHA for another excellent career story.
Great to see you are back. I remember that he played with the Whalers. But until you mentioned it I was doubting my self. We had Brad Mcrimmon and Brian Propp too.
Good vid, t/y for sharing. Brings back the memories of old. In many ways what he accomplished with that list of injuries showed his passion & grit for never wanting to give back. You also mentioned Propp & Poulin & gave me flashbacks. I remember well the beginnings of Mike Keenan in my old hometown of Rochester, NY. Now I'm just old but happy these days in the Philippines. Peace........
Loved Kerr. I was growing up playing in Philly during his prime and patterned my game after his. Such a shame with all the injuries. Those mid-80s Flyers teams have to be the best run of teams to never have won a cup.
I was on the fence, perhaps leaning towards him not deserving induction, but I think his personal courage and his value to the Flyers in both the regular season and playoffs would help sway my vote.

I remember too some of the injuries he had and had forgotten about the sad death of his wife. Put him in the HOF. Today he would be paid $10 million a season for scoring like that!
I know one can't extrapolate what numbers he could have put up, or how much more team success the Flyers would have had with a reasonably healthy Kerr, but I think you can get pass strictly counting his goals and saying he didn't reach 400 in a high scoring era.
Unbelievable shot. Remember he took a snapshot from the blue line that went over the goalies shoulder and shot directly back our. The goalie didn't react and no one could believe it traveled that fast.
I grew up a Rangers fan in the 70s & 80s and became a Caps fan when I moved to DC in the late 80s. So suffice it to say, I've pretty much hated the Flyers since Gerald Ford was president. Tim Kerr was a class act though and well, really hard to hate. ☝️pretty freaking easy to dislike though
Finally a PHA gift ! The surgeries WOW? Sweet Maria, the health insurance co must have been happy with the retirement. Didn't realize he packed it in @33. I don't think the HOF gives credit for injuries , just not the numbers to make it I think. Just to come out of his story still in decent shape physically and mentally is a win for him.

Great bio on a player I only knew of in passing when I started fandom in the 90's! I can only imagine the TORRENT of abuse he took in the slot in the 80's, clearly evidenced by his laundry list of injuries. Once he was hitting multiple 50+ goal seasons I'd imagine the game-plan was to stop Tim Kerr B.A.M.N. Tomahawk slashes and vicious cross-checks to the back and shoulders (probably half of them from divisional rival Chris Chelios at the time), head-buckling elbows, low-hitting on the knees and clean open-ice hits. Those shoulder separations, broken thumbs, knee injuries and back issues just don't mysteriously fall from the sky. Unfortunately most sniping, power forwards and big, skilled guys of the era and went through this kind of punishment, to the serious shortening of their career primes: Kerr, Neely, Clark, Lindros, even Mario (no policeman). All had chronic injuries. Flyers lose in 7 games to Edmonton in the '87 Stanley Cup Finals without Tim Kerr? Methinks the big man would have put them over the top. Also seems like a nice and good man.
What robbed the Flyers of the 80s of Stanley Cup wins was the death of Pelle Lindbergh. They've been cursed with goaltending issues ever since...witness them giving up so soon on Sergei Bobrovsky.
@@firebird7479 The two of them won zero Stanley Cups. They both each won one Vezina Trophy. Hextall won the Conn Smythe Trophy, was the first goalie to win at least 30 games or more in each of his first three seasons. He had a better career goals against average and a better save percentage. Hot head? Absolutely. Back then the crease was open to all players and the goalie needed to make opposing players know that anytime you come into the crease you’re going to pay a price.
@@kge420 And Hextall still won ZERO Stanley Cups. Bottom line. None with two tours with the Flyers. None with Quebec. None with the Islanders. And what good is a goalie who serves suspensions? You're really going to say that Pelle was a flop because he didn't win the Cup in the one appearance he was in then died in a car accident at the age of 26? 3 full seasons in the league and part of a 4th when he died. And Pelle? The only goalie NOT to lose to the US Olympic Team at Lake Placid. Bronze Medal Winner. Nope, I'd take Pelle over Hextall any day of the week. Pelle was headed to the HOF. The only way Hextall gets in is if he pays the entry fee.
The best pure goal scorer in Flyers history! Reggie Leach had the best shot, Mark Howe the best wrist shot, Rick MacLeish a close second but Tim Kerr was the best pure goal scorer! If not for his injuries the Flyers may have beaten the Oilers at least once of the 2 Stanley Cup finals in the 80’s.
Shame he couldn't play in the Stanley Cup finals in 1987. Have to think that would have been enough to put them over the dynasty Oilers team. To go through all of those injuries and setbacks he must have really loved the game. Just about anybody else would have given up and packed it in long before.
I'm from Kingston used to see Kerr and Bernie Nicholas when they were the Canadians the team changed names to Raiders then Frontenacs miss hometown I live in Windsor now I think he should be considered for hall of fame I'm sorry if he was not considered Cam Neely is in point totals close my thoughts Love Kingston and my Jersey with Don , Gilmore and Muller signed

You’re right … great comment 💪
Finally a PHA gift ! The surgeries WOW? Sweet Maria, the health insurance co must have been happy with the retirement. Didn't realize he packed it in @33. I don't think the HOF gives credit for injuries , just not the numbers to make it I think. Just to come out of his story still in decent shape physically and mentally is a win for him.
Thanks Reg … great to be back and awesome to see your comment! 🏒🙏

High-quality substantive comment 👍 greatly appreciated!
I had no idea he had gone through so much crap! All the best Tim!
I hated those Flyers teams but that TANK parked in the slot waiting for the puck to come to him, I had to respect.
What robbed the Flyers of the 80s of Stanley Cup wins was the death of Pelle Lindbergh. They've been cursed with goaltending issues ever since...witness them giving up so soon on Sergei Bobrovsky.
🙏🏒
Hextall was no slouch.
@@kge420 How many Stanley Cups did Hextall win? He was a hot head who let his emotions get the better of him. I'll take Pelle over Hextall any time.
The only way Hextall gets in is if he pays the entry fee.
big fan
Hall or Fame Absolutely!!!
I met him at a tim Hortons. He needed help with his double double. He said he'd prefer a triple trouble but his body couldn't take it anymore.
Tim gets my HOF vote
The best pure goal scorer in Flyers history! Reggie Leach had the best shot, Mark Howe the best wrist shot, Rick MacLeish a close second but Tim Kerr was the best pure goal scorer!
If not for his injuries the Flyers may have beaten the Oilers at least once of the 2 Stanley Cup finals in the 80’s.
Great assessment! Thx!🙏 ✌️🏒
GOAT net front presence. The great one had an office...Timmy kerr had a phone booth
I remember phone booths 😀
Still remember how big he looked compared to most and although his skating was suspect, his hands were deadly
Shame he couldn't play in the Stanley Cup finals in 1987. Have to think that would have been enough to put them over the dynasty Oilers team. To go through all of those injuries and setbacks he must have really loved the game. Just about anybody else would have given up and packed it in long before.
I'm from Kingston used to see Kerr and Bernie Nicholas when they were the Canadians the team changed names to Raiders then Frontenacs miss hometown I live in Windsor now
I think he should be considered for hall of fame I'm sorry if he was not considered Cam Neely is in point totals close my thoughts
Love Kingston and my Jersey with Don , Gilmore and Muller signed
Excellent comment 👍 thanks 🙏
He gets my vote. Always was a difference maker, when he was on the ice. I point to Pavel Bure for similar numbers - even if he was more flashy.
That’s a good comp … 🙏 🏒
tim kerr should be in the hall. so should propp and hextall.
You can make a case for all three for sure 👍
Surgeon at his onset of these shoulder issues started his demise
Guess who’s back!!!
✊🏒
Real Flyers fans love Tim Kerr and Dave Poulin.
He owned the slot. Nobody could move him so that’s where he set up shop. Made it look easy.
Another great documentary well done thanks
Thank you! 🙏
Good Windsor boy. Tecumseh I believe.
Almost a point per game. Hall of fame? YES.
