I think me not reading any books makes it more enjoyable than me. Don't have any preloaded expectations. I don't suffer from "if it doesn't go exactly how i imagine in my head its terrible lol" mindset.
@@HaiAnthony Great perspective mate and in the other comment on this video it seems like that could be the best option to fully enjoy this series! I'm thinking I mighttttt delve into the series before Dune Messiah, I'm just so keen to learn more about the universe, but I think it might be best to wait until the end of this series
@hessflix yeah i know lil bits and pieces of things in the whole universe so i know random spoilers. But from now in i am a firm believer in "reading is detrimental" instead of "reading is fundamental" when it comes to adaptations of fiction. The dune universe is too good to not know
I'll keep that advice in mind for future!! Will be super interesting to come back to this comment thread after the Dune Prophecy series is over and I read the books!
Another interesting and entertaining reaction/review. Since you haven't read the books, I imagine your perception of the Dune Universe is different from those of us who grew up with those stories. I'm an old guy, and read the original Dune book about 1970, and I've re-read it many times since. I'm not normally a fan boy type who complains about every aspect of a production of a film/series, but the Dune stories are so in-depth that I feel like changing certain things, can change the overall tone of the film and for some, lessen the appeal of the movie/series. And for me, there are a couple of those type changes in the Villeneuve movies. Even from your discussion here, there are a couple of things that make me think I might skip this series. I don't currently have HBO, and I may not bother to renew a subscription, or to buy the series later. Thanks for your video.
Hey mate thank you so much for your insightful comment and watching the video, I really appreciate it and love this kind of discussion! I've lived it on the other side with smaller intellectual properties like The Hunger Games where I read the books first, but it's been so long since I've had that experience of reading a book or series before a movie. It's a great point about the small details - I do wonder whether reading the books will make me enjoy the movies or TV show less - but I absolutely loved them so much and I'm craving more Dune, so maybe I'll take the risk? That's really interesting that it seems like reading the books may make you enjoy the series less - I'm thinking because of that I might wait to finish the show and enjoy it without knowing, and then get through the books before Dune Messiah releases in 2026! Love hearing your perspective as someone who read the Dune books as an original fan!
@@hessflix - I do recommend the books. For depth of detail and world building, Dune can't be beat. I really only like the first 3 books. There is so much more to the Dune novel than has ever been brought to the screen, even including the Villeneuve films. If you haven't seen them, I highly recommend the 2000 Sci Fi Channel Dune 3-part mini series and also the 2003 Children of Dune mini series. The 2003 has much higher production values, and better actors. If I remember right, each episode is an hour and a half long. The 2000 Dune series has good acting and you'll recognize many of the scenes from the Villeneuve films, but the effects are ... well, they're 2000 made for tv effects. But it's quite faithful to the original material. The 2003 Children of Dune mini series includes material from the 2nd Dune Book (Dune Messiah), and the 3rd Book (Children of Dune), and holds up very well for its age. And as I mentioned, the acting is very good. Sorry that this is so long.
I've heard that after the third one the books go downhill! So keen to jump into all of them though! I watched a really interesting video essay on here about those miniseries, I think I'll definetly check them both out after reading the books, thanks for the reminder! :) Will try and remember this comment and come back to you when I finally get to watching them!
Yessss mate I'm glad to hear you liked it!! I think they might have as well, I had really low expectations, and I agree it's early days, but I'm hyped too! Lesgoooooo, can't wait for next week!
What did you guys think of the first episode of Dune Prophecy?

Less of your cartoonish hand waving.
