Could you provide some info and links for the different masking tapes you use? I tried a painter's tape from Frog Tape, and it had a heavy wax coating on it which flaked off during removal and transfers to the polishing pad if it makes contact.
This playlist will be a goto place for info. We are beeing spoiled with fantastic and useful information! Bring on the C3 aswell! :) Thank you for all your work.
Returning 1 year later after watching this video because I am polishing a GMC like this in a few weeks.. I wanted to do some homework and find out what clear i was dealing with and found the answer..medium hard .. Thank you for all the great videos Brian there always a great sauce of information ..take care..
Have done my fair share of GM black trucks (actually just wrapped one up today) ranging from completely ruined to just driven off the lot and I really do not like working on this clear. Super tough to finish down without marring at times, but responds so well to compounding. Looks amazing once corrected and coated though. Keep up the fantastic content!
Also, a tip to anyone who is going to be working on this paint; when doing a final polish, use as many different temperature single LED bulbs in as many different lighting situations as possible and use an ipa to strip any residue to completely see your results. It will look good in certain lighting, but hazy from another.
@@Big_Old_Dog Sometimes the sun can blind and hide light hazing on this paint in my experience. Shop lights off, singular LEDs at different temperatures from different angles tells the truth on this paint. Others, the sun is the tell all.
If you are going to try with a rotary as a beginner. I recommend a 6 inch backing pad , as the 8 inch will be a hand full moving around with less experience.
Awesome, I did that to my vehicle did some combo with 3D one step and also hybrid ceramic wax and Slick by chemical guys of course I prep it! And let me tell you I follow your steps! And you’re right it works marvelous!! Considering the right pads! You’re as Brian Thanx!
Really interesting video Brian I have a Rotary and Rupes the combos you adopted seem to work brilliantly tonnes of information I like the fact you are trying to preserve the clearcoat 👌🏻🎥🎥
Hi Brian. As always great video and material to nourish or desire for more and more understanding and knowledge of the art /methodology involved in automotive detailing and how its correctly done. That Uro 50/50 pad is my next purchase to add to my pads. They seem to provide excellent results and are a must for my detailing arsenal. I have some of the Meguiars microfiber pads and look forward to trying the Uro 50/50 pad Thanks Brian for your hard working and sharing your knowledge and experience. You truly set a proper standard to define the word “quality” in every aspect of proper automotive detailing. Hands down, you are the best!!!!
Great transformation as always Brian! Ceramic coating my '12 Silverado upon delivery saved me from that nightmare...In 7 years, despite harsh New England winters and using a car wash during the cold months, it never came close to looking like that.
Very informative video ✊I always appreciate your dedication and effort you put into the channel. I learned a lot from your videos 👍🏻I can’t thank you enough. I will have to one day I’m in your area call before I stop in to say hello and show you my immaculate 2018 Camaro SS.💎
Nice video Brian. Getting ready to do my fall polish of my RAM. I'm using 3D One and white Lake Country CCS pads but I think I want to switch to the uro fiber 50/50. I've seen you use those in so many of your vids and dying to try them out. Thanx again.
I use extreme daily. I saw you didnt use perfection. it's really a nice finishing polish. really I just love the smell of it lol. I use ice pretty much daily that's my baby. ray and the guys over at extreme are very helpful.
Thanks Brian. I have a 2018 GMC Sierra and agree with you that the paint job on them is lousy. My truck is black and the amount of swirls and scratches it shows is unbelievable. I've gone through dozens of your vids and am very impressed. I've tried my hand at polishing and have seen some improvement but am still nervous about going to town. Have you ever tested consumer brand polishes like Simonize or others. Is there a consumer brand polish you would recommend?
Turned out amazing, I saw it on Instagram earlier. If you take care of your car the paint will last. I have a 1989 mustang with OE paint and people can’t believe it’s the original paint. It’s a lot easier to take care of nowadays. Back then I had some humongous orbital polisher with a 10” pad.
Another fascinating and informative video. Question for you or any subscriber: Do you address how to determine the level of hardness or softness of a clear coat in other videos? Is there a tool to assess this? I know it’s a consideration in determining the appropriate corrective method and resources to use. I have no idea if looking at a vehicle how to assess the “hardness” level. Thank you for sharing your corrections with in depth commentary. Pumping these out while doing the actual work must be challenging.
No tool ....test in an inconspicuous area with non aggressive pad and polish. Soft paint will clear up quickly....hard clear will seem stubborn and need more aggressive pads and liquids to clear up..
"The newer stuff is junk, is crap, to me." Yep. Brian, on my new channel I talk about why older cars are better than newer cars... maybe I should add this to my list! Thanks man.
Hi Brian Unfortunately I’m one of those guys who seems to be buying everything you suggest. I saw your video stating that’s not your intention so I decided to pick a product I have or I’ll never get to the correction on my truck. I have a 2015 Dodge Ram which you answered in an e-mail to me has a medium clear. I have Lake Country micro fiber pads in heavy and light cut. I also have Uro Fiber 50/50 pads. I’ve decided to use Angle Wax, and have on hand Angle Wax Regenerate, Redemption and Perfect Polish. Using a Torq 22D polisher what pad and Angle wax product would you suggest I start with on my truck with heavy to medium swirling. Thanks again for your videos and your response. Ed
Hi there, so did this truck have the orange peel look finish by the lower rocker panel ? I believe it gm way to protect from ? Do u just stay off that or? I’ve a 2017 Silverado and wish it was smooth there ..... thx for the vids
How do you manage dust in your studio when you use compressed air to blow out the pads? I always end up with a fine layer of dust on all surfaces after a couple of days of cutting/polishing.
He has a cabinet attached to a vacuum. Like ones used to sandblast small objects. Forced air + vacuum in a closed box = clean garage. I saw that exact red cabinet at harbor freight.
I'd guess automatic brush car washes probably a hand in it as well.. at least the touchless systems are quickly making their way in.. such a better option. With good coatings, a touchless wash can usually get the job done wonderfully without leaving a single mark.. 👍👌✌
@@lancet2639 Funny you should say that. I forgot to tell them not to wash my truck after service recently. I came out to see a young lady heading to my wet truck with a water blade. I stopped her just in time! I had to explain to her how it causes scratches and told the service manager to start using clean microfibers is he wanted to continue to wash after service,

Did you measure the thickness of the clear coat and/or the paint to start with? How do you know how much of a base you are working with before you start to take away layers of clear??
Thanks for this Brian. Very helpful for me a weekend detailer. Is there a list or site you can post that has which clear coats are thin and which are thick?
Brain, do you change to a fresh pad when you move to next panel or you would clean and use the same pad to continue the job ? Some people said we should have a few pads to do the paint correction for the whole car and switch the pad to next panel. Thanks
Hey Brian. Always a great and informative video. Thank you. I been watching Darren Priest and am curious to hear your thoughts on the CSI Ceramex polish? I know you're a big fan of the rotary, seems to be promising. I just recently purchased the Dewalt rotary to start practicing on old panels. Can you do a video on tbis CSI. Thank you
Brian, I was under the impression that the “top 20%” idea for UV protection wasn’t all accurate with modern clears and is now understood to be evenly distributed. So you have any new data/info on this?
Apex Detail yeh you’re right. I just thought the jury was still out on whether the UV inhibitors are affected by the rising gasses or if it’s more to do with measuring the effects of UV on old/worn clear coats. Where the clear has only a small percentage left, ergo a lower concentration of UV inhibitors. Rather than only in the top 20%. That would mean that after a 20% degradation of your clear, you’d have no UV protection left. Semantics either way.
I agree with your comment that the new cars are crap. I prefer older cars in good mechanical condition that need some TLC. I have 4 vehicles that are at least 10 years old. The 01 Cavalier and 03 Toyota Prerunner, are daily drivers. The 92 Corvette and 06 Corvette are garage queens. They all run and drive awesome!
@ AD - sure options are good, to much options or useless unnesesary ones are not. It sounds like they have a overactive marketing dep. to me, and there are some obsolete ones in there that they could have combined with other ones and bring just like 5 good, usefull products to the market. @ Luke - I dont see how thats relevant?? How is the 1500 less aggressive than the 1000?
The higher the number the finer the grit. 3000 grit is finer than 1000 grit.
So your doing compound 1st step. Then Polish 2nd step wouldn't thear be a 3rd step waxing or protectint??
2 steps in the correction phase. Protection is the next phase.👍
