How will you use Action Blocks?
I failed to mention these to not transfer between your Google Account, they will be unique to the device they are setup on.
i cant use this app in indonesia? why?
What is action block?
would have been better if Goggle Home allows us to create widgets for routines instead of a separate app.
I like how you spoke to your mom, God bless you both
Hello Brett I wish I want to do that as well
Great video Brett. Always learning by your videos. Thank you!
I can see this being very useful. No need to go into the home app, scrolling down to the light, then switch on or off.
For calling on Samsung, you can just choose a widget called "contacts" and then "direct call". It's way easier and faster since it directly calls the person you want instead of waiting for the assistant to calculate what to do.
Still a nice feature to have for other things, and a nice video overall :)
Yeah that definitely would be the preferred way to use contacts widgets. Thanks!
Thank you Brett, Google should have released this day one of google home being introduced
Thanks alot. Informative
Great video! I'm still not entirely comfortable talking to a smart speaker.. This is why rely so heavily on automations. Great to see this integration from Google.
Another reason why these are going to be so useful.
so useful!! thank you so much!
thanks. great info!
I am starting to use can somehow blocks to be smaller and its a great for creating long commands expecialy if you using often and I apologise for language my english is terrible
Great video! Thanks! Is there a way to get the widget icon any smaller? I'd like it to be the same size as the regular app icons on the home screen. I've tried resizing, but can only get it down to 1x2, as shown in the video...
Have you tried adding blocks to nest hub max? I'd definitely buy one if it worked on a google hub.
Thx for the vid
Informative video as always, but with these widgets it bothers me that it still says the command by voice and not just executes it.
You could also add the option that you can also use the created widget in Android auto.
Brilliant Brett I was looking for something like this to make it easier for non Tech, anti Google assistant types in my house to just press a button and get a result (ie watch Netflix). I've set up about 6 common tasks, that gets them to what they want to do easily on an old docked Nexus 6, dedicated to my media centre and logitech hub. Are there any tips around on the image sizing, I am a bit anal and want to use good icons, don't like the google library stuff. I set everything up in an hour and have been obsessing over graphics/icons for 2 days Help!!!
Nice info. 👍
Hey Brett, do i still need to be in the same wifi to use action blocks or can i use this feature remote from any outside place? Ty :)
I love this idea. Unfortunately my phone only allows me to make and place one widget. Hopefully an update will fix this 🤞
This is a great video I have been waiting for something to be able to not actavatie the assistant I will use these to toggle lights and actavatie routines.
There is always one or 2 lights left on so these will be super useful to have blocks for without jumping into the Google Home app and scrolling through the list.
@@TechWithBrett ALWAYS, my brother's light is always on.
nice can you do a whats app or a messenger call with this and use google read aloud ?
Neat. Gives me a viable alternative given I need to disable the Ok Google command on my phone to keep it from conflicting with my girlfriend's Nest Mini. It's just stupidly poor UX that there isn't a quick toggle setting to turn off OK Google from the notification area or even a command to dismiss Google Assistant and return to the home screen once an automated task is completed.
Is there a way to group action blocks on the home screen?
I tried a multiple-command action block, and it really only handles the first request. I wanted it to turn off lights, a fan and a charging station, but it only does the lights. Still, I was able to make countdown timer for lunch breaks, and turn off some lights my "Good Morning" routine turns on.
As an ex-iPhone user, this seems a bit limited compared to Siri Shortcuts. That was one of the things that kind of disappointed me when I switched to Android. Hopefully it will grow and become awesome!
This will be great when I need something to happen but I don’t want to wake my sleeping 2 year old grandson! Or have him learn what to say to play with the lights. LOL
Is there a way to automate these blocks?
Your mom didn't believe you. I don't either. 😏
Brett do you have the Harmony Hub? If you do, and you're having any problems with any activities, let me know, I mastered the Harmony Hub. I don't have any problems.
Haha! I do have one have spent much time fixing activities as well. Tell me all you know.
@@TechWithBrett What problem do you have?
I will play with it to see if it can be somewhat useful to me. I will try and link it to Alexa. That maybe a useful hack, we'll see?
I can sort of use it in place of something I've been begging Google for which is a way to choose which google assistant responds. If I say "message Patti", my phone says "answering on another device" and my Google home says "I can't send text messages yet". 🤬 Its not perfect because most of the time, I WANT to use my voice (which is why I try) so I wish I could just have different activation keywords but this will address a few of those issues. At least I don't have to try to whisper so that only one device hears me...
Thank You Brett 🙂
If Possible, I would like to use it to ,
Connect My Phone - (to my Home Speaker & my Minis)
Connect my Chromecast - to my TV of course, lol !)
BTW - when using my Home Speaker - Just recently, when I get a phone call it rings through my speaker. The first time it did that, it startled me No End 😯 !
I have Yet to see where Google announced they were going to implement That !!!
OR - I suppose it Could be "Just Me" - Something Not Unheard of 😏 .
Will Be Saving This Video 😊.

You must be using Google Duo now and that is great to hear.
@@TechWithBrett ;
Have Been using Google DUO for at least a Year now. Since it first came out.
As a Matter of fact I was talking to my ex-Husband on it for 8 hours just Yesterday. (He lives in FLA. - I, in PA.)
I still don't understand why calls are Ringing through my Speaker.
The call itself doesn't come through the Speaker - Just the Ringing.
I had it way before they added all the stuff it has Now.
I think it's the Best Video Chat There Is 👍🏻.
Thank You for Replying Brett 😊.

Any sense as to whether/when these are coming to smart displays?
I have not heard of any Integration but I think that would be a great feature to request. Many things can be done with a few clicks already but adding these to the display would be really nice to have.
Action blocks kind of reminds me of the Hubitat dashboard.
can tou do it without it opening a app
Do we need special bulbs, etc to be able to use these action blocks?
You will need Smart Bulbs that are compatible with the Google Assistant.
Great web show however google has a bad problem of duplicating existing programs in out her formats instead of streamlining them into 1 app. We should be able to send a SMS via Google home without IFTTT
won't place tile on home screen, first one worked but second did not work even after successfully tested.
Another great video! Honestly though this Action Block seems anti productive. There are easier ways to set of each of these tasks in to motion, and you don't need to add more windows to do it. Seems kinda like inventing a widget to open a letter. Just open it.
Understandable, this is mainly meant for those who aren't capable of following a list of commands or don't have time to get into apps and click small buttons. I am excited there are so many options available for everyone.
How do I set up to play music on my Google Nest Hub Max?
You would create a custom action that looks like this, "Play music on Nest Hub Max." You can change music to whatever song or artistic you want to listen to.
I set up a bunch of action blocks... Most of the time I get an error when I run then. Disappointing. Hopefully that gets fixed.
The did happen to me once and I am not sure why. This app is still in early stages so hopefully we will see quick updates.
Why would you want to create a widget to open an app, just move the app icon to the homescreen?
Pretty much sounds the same as IFTTT?
I can't get it to work for me. I want to send a text to a contact, but I want it to open the text app so I can dictate the message.
How I do that when I have the *82 plus the number, and I have the same number for texting, but the assignment only gives me the choice of home or cell *82 plus number. Of course that will never work.
Thanks ✌️
I have them set up to turn off my study light and another to turn my son's lamp on.
Hi how i can get free apk to block add on android 🌹
Is action blocks a third party or part of Google?
I tried this and the icons locked up and froze my Pixel 4XL. I uninstalled it right away. Google needs to fix it before I'll try again.
So basically it's like Bixby Routines.
Similar, but Bixby routines is more action based. This is more front and center to complete simple actions for those that are not able to navigation through some of the complex flows of parts of the Android device.
This seems like a dumb way to do this. Why not just port Home's Routines to Assistant and give them widgets? It would be much more useful and integrated. Is this one of those cases where the Assistant development team and the Home team don't talk to each other?
These widgets are bloody ridiculous. Hard to imagine anyone designing worse widgets than these. Absolutely unbelievable.
Does it work for iPhone Apple Store
It does not, only available for Android devices.
Tech With Brett OK thanks
OK...But why can't you just do what I do: Speak out loud, "Hey Google...call mom." Done.
That is a great option. This is mainly for when you can use your voice and don't want to type out the command.
😀
So you're telling me I can set up a way to make calls to people from my phone? Where is my automated toothbrush google?
Hi
I only need one button for the Google assistant - the one that turns it off.
Hey
Ждем когда будет русский. А пока пробуем так.
I won't I have a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G
So, basically it's Bixby routines. Well done Google. Tad late to the party but glad you made it 🙄
Wassup
Just playing with Action Blocks, you?
Actually I use Bixby routines
Direct copy of Siri shortcuts
I actually feel like this is nothing like Siri shortcuts. I would even say those are more powerful in some ways, but iPhones don't have home screen widgets so this is impossible to do on there.
@@TechWithBrett the iPad has that
Nice feature with ugly widgets.
