This is an awesome car that I bought one. Thank you for a wonderful review. I bought the 2023 Kia Sportage SX Prestige AWD Hybrid. I love it. Mine is coming in another month. It has the best 1.6L Turbo engine with the Hybrid engine at 38MPG. I am very impressed with all of it. So many features. The Panoramic sunroof is simple awesome. It is built very well with great quality. The LED projector lights are very bright and go very far. The engine is very quick and quiet. No road noise at all. Thank you for your honest review.
I've had mine over a year and I love it, no issues. My daughter has an xline, not hybrid and it is a little under powered so this hybrid is bomb!! I got mine during covid, it's just an ex. I wish I had the deluxe model but I'm thankful I got one! Where I'm at they were hard to get, the hybrid model that is.
I wish you guys had arrows to follow where you’re talking about under the hood. For people who are still learning about cars (me 🙋🏼♀️) I think it would be easier to understand and learn from.
Isn't it under warranty? I'd let them do it, then if it messes up it's on them! This is my first Kia but we take it to Kia for everything, hoping that helps for warranty.
@@missyvanhorn5637the warranty only lasts so long and the belt is normal maintenance. Eventually you pay to change it. A video on UA-cam with details is a huge help for anyone interested in doing it themselves.
Not everyone wants to take their car to the dealer. Warranties don’t get invalidated by having routine service done elsewhere. I also wish there were more how to videos for this drivetrain.
I wish the mileage was that good. Testers I've watched on UA-cam consistently rate the vehicle at a maximum of 35 mpg for AWD, 38 for FWD with the average mpg slightly lower. Regardless, the EV trim of this vehicle is still my next new car goal. The video was very informative!
So, it's going to depend on the gas engine that's included with the Sportage. Each market seems to have a different engine or transmission. I have the North American Sportage HEV and am currently getting around 6L/100Km or 39MPG at 1700Km's on the dial. I have the AWD version. It's also going to really depend on your driving style as well. The harder you push on the gas, the more gas you'll use. If you drive way past the speed limit etc.
I'm getting 32 but I live in WY and mine is AWD. I drive mostly 80 on the highway so that's to be expected if you come 55 or 60 it's Much better and if you go in town (slow) it runs off electric more and your mileage increases.
My sales lady that sold me my Sportage drives a K5 and loves it. Call Nissan of Casper in Casper WY and Victoria will probably tell you all about. She doesn't work for kia anymore but she went from Subaru to Kia K5 and loves it!
Wow! That looks Exactly like my 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid!! Except I have a conventional 12Volt agm battery in my rear cargo area. Much better I think, no battery going dead pushing in some weird switch in able to start the car after a short sitting period. Jump starting is also done in the conventional way!
Great educational video. I think a great video idea would be to compare the maverick hybrid system to this hybrid system 👍 the nuts and bolts of the differences
I have a 24 Hyundai Tucson hybrid (same powertrain), and thanks for the video. I would love to see how the mechanical system in the transmission works switching from ev to ice, I simply dont understand how that works and as OCD as I am. I have to. I need to know how all my vehicles work in and out. If you get a chance Id love to hear that explained.
There is an electric motor in place of a traditional torque converter which can disconnect from the engine via an electrically actuated clutch. This allows the engine to stop and the electric motor to continue to provide power into the transmission or can provide regenerative braking / generation to the battery when conditions allow.
Hi Sam, this Smartstream engine, will this have the same range of issues that previous Hyundai Kia engines have had, i.e. oil burners, fires, etc... Is this a improved design that significantly decreases the risk of the old issues, or just something we'll have to see over time? Thanks! Jeff
By design , it is turbo and GDI, oil burner will be a risk regardless of issue patching by KIA! There is a way for you to be proactive to lessen the risk, my method is by using at least 89 (preferably 91 octane) gasoline, change your oil at 5000 miles on highway and 3500 miles when you do exclusively stop and go traffic, and never start the car only to drive a mile and turned it off, always have a habit to warm the car to optimal operating temp before you turn it off. There is not a lot of sample to compare my method but my Tucson Hybrid, which share the same tech as this KIA, is reaching 100k with no oil burners, no oil dilution!
Gas mileage, no power on fr. passenger seat, and power remains on if you have climate control on. It will not go into EV mode with any type of heat or A/C on. I have the EX hybrid w/ prem pkg. and I'm honestly agv. 27.6 mpg here in very cold Denver. No lie... the MPG sucks
People are way to paranoid about all of this 'carbon buildup". It's a non-issue for 99.9% of vehicles. We're not sure what website or news network that has everyone so worried about it but people need to relax. It's all going to be ok.

Can you open the hood and tell us if there is a serpentine belt?
How is it running after 8 months any issues? It is coming in the carnival in 2025 so I am hoping to buy it

I wish someone would post a video on how to change the HSG belt in the Sportage HEV.

Informative if you're looking for bad information

Could you please do a review for K5 hybrid engine?
My sales lady that sold me my Sportage drives a K5 and loves it. Call Nissan of Casper in Casper WY and Victoria will probably tell you all about. She doesn't work for kia anymore but she went from Subaru to Kia K5 and loves it!
It's a great car
I upgraded the turbo on mine. I'm now 400hp combined.
Question: if something is wrong with the hybrid system, will the car still start and run on the gas motor?
If something wrong means the battery hybrid is shut, then you will not be able to start the engine AT ALL.
Question: Where is the 12v battery located in this vehicle?
@@نمرهندي it is located under the back seat, it is integrated in the hybrid battery.
@@نمرهنديunder the rear passenger seat
Anyone know something about oil motor issue for 2023 phev?I see a lot of complaining about engine broke on small kilometers!

Thank you for the great information...
Great vid, love your take on the auto field.
What kind of HEV is this car? It's a parallel-series hybrid? where I can find more information?
So does it have a 12 volt battery under the rear seat like the Maverick hybrid? Love you're videos
it has 12v batt but it is sealed in the hybrid system under the back seat.
I have one, and there IS a conventional 12v battery under the floor in the rear cargo area. @@blackdan0259

Does the engine have a serpentine belt?
What type of coolant is used ?
#ownersmanual
The belt driven starter motor generator is a three phase induction motor generator.❤

That's hard to know, perhaps try Consumer Reports

64 kWh battery??? Not correct. HV battery in this Kia Sportage has a capacity of 13.8 kWh
Lol,
Yes, there is a 12v battery
Explained nothing.
Thanks for saving my time
You made a video about engine explained without showing the engine view from under??
Super Lazy!!
I really don't like turbos on hybrids. That many thermal cycles are never good for a turbo engine.
me as well, that is why I don't buy hybrid with turbo
Well good thing the powertrain comes with a 10 yr warranty.
64kw battery, wrong
Yes... Would be awesome... but it's just 1.49 kwh
its a 2023 not 2022
This car a turbo and is still so slow smh
The turbo is not meant for performance, rather for MPG in this vehicle design.
A direct injection turbo engine in a hybrid? An engine that is going to turn on and off constantly? LOL the carbon build up will be insane.
