I Made My Own Plywood!

- I designed this floating nightstand to go next to the bed in my home office. My home office is where my beautiful desk is and I wanted this to match it so I used some of the off cuts and made some shop sawn veneers and subsequent shop made plywood.

It makes so much sense to veneer your own plywood. You get to make a true 3/4 then as well. What a great night stand.
It's so nice to be able to make your own. There are SOOOOO many advantages
Wood pulp and pig hooves… would be a pretty sick band name.
🤣🤣
AWESOME video mike! really loved the detail you showed and the mdf veneer was smart idea
Thanks homie! It's a straightforward piece but the veneer elevates it for sure
Awesome video. Though please wear a mask, especially with MDF when cutting. Nasty stuff.
Great point!
Bases are over rated French cleat for the win 💁🏼♂️ fancy boy status
French cleat is where it's at
Dude, you made plywood! That is pretty cool. You have my respect. Oh and the nightstand was pretty nice too😂
Thank you so much 😀
So where would I find this Bent's woodworking stop block? It worked perfectly. lol
You'd have to ask Jason but I'm guessing from the garbage can.
Which Bandsaw blade do you use to resaw? It seemed to cut super clean and straight.
I use the Laguna Resaw King
Mdf. Please wear a mask at least when cutting. Those fibres are not good for you.
They're pig hoofs
I just scooped up the vacupress 300 3cfm unit. got a 4x4 bag with it. Can't wait to get into veneering looks so damn fun. That plywood turned out great! awesome build mike!
It will change woodworking moving forward.
Beautiful piece of furniture and very informative video. I love the video style you’ve developed and the quality of the builds you’re sharing.
Thank you sir! We are very happy with this and really appreciate your support
Who’s the music in this video?
It's from our music service. I'll ask my editor.
It's the face you make when spinning the glue roller that really makes the video. Good design and enjoyed the details shared. Great video.
I need to do a video of me just making faces.
Wow, for such a simple design, it is absolutely beautiful. Love the colour and the grain of the maple.
Thank you! It's really a fun piece
I wish you made this video about three months ago…🤣 absolute stunner Mike.
Thanks man! Also, sorry man! 😂
When I'm joining the veneer I'll usually glue the joint at the same time that I am gluing up the veneer to the substrate (taping the joint from the face side, and leaving the tape in place when in the bag). Just saves you that clean up phase between glueing the leaves together and laying it up. Also guarantees that nothing slips and causes a step in that joint that will prevent the veneer making good contact with the substrate in lay up. I also apply my solid lippings before the veneering, so the veneer covers the lipping joint, and with good colour match it's almost impossible to tell it has been lipped that way. Always enjoy your videos, really nicely made and produced 👍👍👍
Great way to do it!
Well done video! Thank you for all the hard work you put into this!
Thank you for your support
slide your banding side to side freates a vacuum doesnt slide around as much
Good tip
That's purdy. Well done!
Thank you! It's a nice little nightstand!
You are a fancy boy! Nicely done buddy!
I am! Thanks bro
Beautiful work mate :)
Thank you!
Nice result and I like the look of the wide home sawn veneers. But I don't understand why it would be called homemade plywood instead of veneered mdf? Is it the thickness of the veneers that makes it a plywood?
Well there are plus involved so it's plywood. But also, a lot of "plywood" is coming with mdf cores these days because it's more stable
Great job Mike!
Thank you
Lovely job 👏🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
Sharp
Thank you
Why would you use a track saw over a table saw for finished edge?
Which finished edge?
