$2,000 Coffee Table From $200 Of Trash Wood

- I made a coffee table out of two salvaged english walnut slabs and used through tenons attach the slab legs. This was a bit of a race against time as I had a deadline to wrap this one up, but I am really happy with how it came out!

Nice use of imperfect pieces and love your music choices. What group(s)? You might list that in the info
Thank you! It's from a music service. I'll see if I can get that from my editor!
Can confirm, that’s a rectangle 👍🏻👍🏻
Writing this down. One moment.
Can confirm it is also a shape.
Can I get a link to the tape clamp
Ugh that bandsaw feeder is beautiful

It's dope dude!
great work on the table and video mike!
Thanks dude! Appreciate it!
Looks great. Wondering why u didn’t throw in a stretcher or angled out the “legs”. Pretty much all of the compression is picked up by the shoulders of the tenons. Would love to know what ur thoughts on that? 🙏
The stretcher would help with compression. That would help with racking or sway. But it is not an issue here as the tenon is 1" thick and 1.25" tall. That combined with the immense glue surface give an incredibly strong joint. Also, woods compression strengths are VERY high. It's one of it's most redeeming qualities from an engineering standpoint.
@@CoffeyCustomBuildsthanks yeh I see ur reasoning. Awesome build, looking forward to try to replicate it.
Great looking table, I wasn't sure on the through tennon legs but you definitely sold me on them! Quick question if you don't mind, what is the blue handle you have on the white pad for the Rubio, how does it hold onto the pad? Thanks a bunch!
Thank you! Big fan of the though tenon's! It's a handle for applying using scotch Brite pads. I put the link in the description. I also didn't use Rubio. I use Rustic Lumber Finish and have for over a year and it's great. Also put a link in the description for that.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds Thank you for both of those, I'll have to check out both of the links.
Lovely work! I’m an amateur woodworker and I love the simplicity of this piece.
Two questions:
1. What did you sand this to?
2. How did you finish it?
It's a very simple and elegant piece. I sanded everything to 180 except the top to 220. I finished with Rustic Lumber Finish. It's my preferred hard wax oil finish. There's a link to it in the description.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds Thanks for the info! I’ve subscribed. 😁
@robertbusek30 thank you!
Are the dominoes better than the usual biscuit joints?
Not in this application. They do the exact same thing here.
Beautiufl wood. Nice work dude 👏👏
Thank you sir
This is a great build and well made video. I like your clear explanation and I will definitely use some of your tips in the future. This is the first time watching any of your content. I have heard your name mentioned on podcasts so it is nice to finally put a name to the face. UA-cam was relentless in recommending this video to me. I finally clicked on it and it was worth it.
Man thank you so much! Also, super stoked UA-cam is being persistent about sharing our viddies 😂
So many good techniques used on this project! Great job Mike!
I’ve got to make one of those trim router jigs 😂
Thanks dude! I was doing to start selling them haha
nice work buddy
Thank you my friend!
Nice project, thanks.
Thank you!
Brotha. Regrets. I wish I would've done this through tenon leg situation with the table I just built... So clean.
There's always the next one!
This was a great video of a beautiful table. I feel like I can make this.
You absolutely can!
Also, English Maple always hits different... Gorgeous.
English walnut** but yes! Every time!
The grain pattern on the top makes you stare at it..very unique and appealing..your craftsmanship indicates passion and meticulous attention to detail! Very inspiring sir!
Thank you! It's a beautiful piece.
Cool table mike, the through tenons look great!
Thanks my man!
Oh I want one of those skill saw ruler guide thingys ☺️
Track saws are game changing
Love the way this table came out Mike it’s amazing dig the through tenons for sure and the patches. Keep up the great work
Thank you so much!
The patches look good on this piece because there's so much figure, beautiful work.
Exactly. It's already busy so they blend in.
You are far more talented and experienced than i am. But just curious..how come no roundover edges or bevels? How come you left them square? Very good looking table by the way!
Every single outside profile got an 1/8" chamfer. We just didn't show it in the video.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds Ah gotcha! Thank you! Makes sense now...
Great job brother!
Thanks man!!
Looks great brother!
Thank you!
Nice
Thanks man!
good build man! enjoying the channel
Awesome! So glad to hear that!
I liked those patches more than I imagined. I’m wondering.. what a completely patchwork top would be like. Im filing that idea away
I actually want to do the same. I want to do a plywood substrate and patch all over the top.
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds Look forward to seeing that build!
Bowtie bandit
Can't stop me!
Super cool!!
Thank you!
Beautiful wood. Love the through tenons and the patches
Thank you kindly!
This is my dream coffee table!
I'd love to make you one
Please do please do 🥹

Thanks dude!
Great Job as always!
Thank you!
Table came out great. Nice work
Appreciate it! Thank you
Overall I like it. The through tenon is a nice detail. Personally, I'd have preferred the tiny amount of epoxy to fill the defects over the patchwork. Only other change I'd make would be relief cuts on the bottom of the legs. As is those legs will work fine on a carpeted floor, but for any hard flooring it'll be almost impossible to get to sit flat. Foam pads would work, but I also like the look of even a small relief cut.
Good thing this was for someone else 😂 thank you
Sweet build!
Thanks man!
Beautiful Table Coffey
Thanks Kurumi
Won’t there be a problem using this method to attach the top regarding wood movement?
Wood movement happens across the grain. The grain is all running in the same direction.

Beautiful!
Thank you!
That was just fun to watch. Nice build!
Thanks brother! Fun is the goal! Trying to make it like a tv show over here.
Another great video Mike
Thank you 🙌🏻
Ah sorry but those patches are an abomination. Nice work tho!
Oh okay
