Nice yeah I decided it was too much for front and center. But I prefer it as the back piece because you can see a bit of it in the open bottom shelf and it makes you want to open the door to see if it continues and see more. It was a design choice. I think putting the craziest piece of wood up front is a natural response for sure
Fun fact: It’s not using “vacuum force” to press, it’s letting all the air from where you are on up to space to push down on it - the vacuum just gets the other air in the bag out of the way. Beautiful piece!!
@@CoffeyCustomBuilds yea! It totally blew my mind when I learned about how it works (and that our skin is constantly being pressed on with the same force..) not that it really matters unless you are thinking about using a vacuum press in a low atmosphere environment like mars 😅😇
Great build, great video. I need to make something like this for my bathroom - wife doesn’t leave me much space on the vanity 😂 Out of curiosity, what properties does the Unibond have vs. something like Titebond that made it better for this application? Thanks
It actually sprung inward. I'm not 100% but I believe it's because I made the form so tight. I resawed the wood to give me exactly .625" and the added glue thickness made it extra tight. I think that tightness made it spring in.
I could do that too if I had a pocket hole jig! But for real great video and the cabinet looks amazing, it is awesome to see the whole process together after seeing it in pieces on stories.
Just as a tip for future. I did a bent lam glue up with /8 laminations myself recently, but I first steamed them and put them in the form, let them dry then did the glue up later. Worked fine, that was 100 yo oak too, really dry stuff. What a spectacular build too. Loved how you saved that awesome Burr veneer for whoever opens the door :)
Fantastic cabinet and video Mike! I haven’t enjoyed a video this much in quite a while. I love every part of this design along with the thoughtful approach and custom pull! 🙌
Fantastic. Loved the progression going through step-by-step. Doing this and filming it while working on business is amazing to me. Jumping back in and being excited to get back to a project. My projects are done one process step at a time. Little by little and sometimes shop time is just setting up to do the step so it’s ready for the next time I have shop time. Getting a router out and putting the right bit in or finding the parts and pieces.
Thank you but I don't do it alone. i couldn't do this channel without my channel partner and cinematographer Peter. And my business has amazing team members.
A lovely piece of furniture choice of materials and very well crafted! Can I just ask you on such fine cabinetry why not set the centre of the hinge knuckle to line in with the face of the door?
Absolutely crushed this one buddy. Nice forms, nice results. Straight fire 🔥
Thank you brother!
Look great! The only thing I would do different is use the veneer for the door and what you've got for the door for the back.

Weird they call it a vacu press machine 🤔

Beautiful cabinet!
Thank you sir!
Cool vid, and you always have the best music on your vids.
That's all Pete. He makes a mean video!

Unibond has a longer open time but also dries hard. TB is elastic but UB can actually make a thin ply made with shop sawn veneers Ridgid.
This is really great stuff mike, excellent work !
Thanks so much dude!
Oh, man!
Looks like you didn’t get ANY spring back when you took the bend out of the form. Any tips on how you managed that?

how did you steam them and for how long?
Thanks for watching!
Wouldn't the shaper origin have worked better for the door and the inset for the back?
The size isn't consistent because it's a bent lam carcass so making the vectors for the reveals would be tough
Beautiful project, and great video as well. 👏👏👏
Thank you!!
Such a fun watch and a beautiful cabinet
I'm really glad you liked it!
I like it when you started doing "real woodworking" at 11:45 into the video.
That's my favorite part.
Very cool. Liked the explanations.
Awesome! I try to explain as much as possible without going into the weeds.
What a awesome project and video Mike!
Thanks so much, Dan!
ill say it again, that veneer on the inside is straight up magic
Yeah it is wild!
Thats a handsome piece man, well done!
Thank you so much!
Love how this turned out, Mike! Trying new things and nailing it has to be a great feeling.
This has been the most challenging piece I've built for sure. It was a blast.
The cabinet turned out absolutely amazing great video showing how you made this cabinet each step even the pull. It’s beautiful great work Mike

Phenomenal project and another amazing video Mike. This is the type of video that inspires me to be in the workshop.
You're very kind! Thank you for dropping a line. 🙏🏼
Great work Mike! That spoke shave on the door shot was incredibly satisfying!
Yeah I loved that one!
Bad a$$ piece right there! 🔥 👏
Thank you I'm very proud of it!
This is amazing!! Great work! Love the way the brass pairs with the piece!
Thanks so much man! I'm really proud of this

I was hoping you'd chime in so I could know how to properly make this video.
