Episode 4: Manakin Market (Sept 2023)
Recipe: Challah French Toast with Berry Compote
    Ingredients:
    Challah bread
3 Small Eggs or 2 large eggs
1 tablespoon cinnamon (or more if preferred)
1/4 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
    1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp clove and/or nutmeg (optional)
    2 cups assorted berries
    1/2 cup granulated sugar
    Squeeze of lemon (optional)
    Powdered sugar (optional)
    1. Slice Challah in 1/4 inch slices
    2. Make your egg wash using eggs, cinnamon, milk, vanilla extract and optional additional spices: clove and/or nutmeg
    3. Dip your challah in the egg wash, allowing time for each side to soak. Flip and repeat with each slice until all are coated in egg wash
    4. Rinse your berries and place in a small sauce pot. Add sugar and an optional squeeze of lemon juice.
    5. Place the small sauce pot on the stove over low heat and allow the sugar and berries to cook together, stirring occasionally. Once the berries are broken down and the mixture is bubbling, you can turn off the heat.
    6. Simultaneously, heat up a large pan - cast iron or nonstick. Add a neutral cooking oil.
    7. Cook the challah bread on each side until it is golden brown, then remove from the heat.
    8. Plate your challah, and pour over a scoopful of the berry compote. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
Thanks again for your understanding! It’s been a frustrating journey with Susie but I have loved every second of working with you ladies!!
