Balls as big as the Beatles themselves at times! So sad he is falling out with people along the way as he writes these books, like Julia and George, hopefully they will accept his explanation that he is just seeking truth and is no way looking to hurt or offend people-Mark seems like a humane, compassionate guy who is sensitive to the feelings and image of others in the Beatles story

No R&R scene on the planet apart from Liverpool? That's a stretch, there was one in London, hence Joe Meek. There was one in Paris, hence Vince Taylor. I imagine there was one in Hamburg. LOL.

Oh man..just re-read the Dykins drink drive story...it does infer that had Dykins not lost his licence he would have been there to pick up Julia...but why mention that? It does point a finger at Dykins (Julia Baird's dad)...but it's so wooly..unless I've missed something...(I do only have the little edition)...that's not just re-telling a story...I can dig why Julia Baird is a bit pissed off....furthermore (and yeah I do need to re-read the pete Best section) but there is scanty talk of Mona being up the duff with Neil's baby...and for this not to a have bearing on Pete's sacking is just daft.

What does Mark think of The Memoirs of Billy Shears?
Does Mark have any evidence that Paul McCartney was killed in a car crash in 1966?

the biggest problem is as each day goes by More People who have relations to teh Beatles are dying off with George Martin & Geoff Emerick now being gone & with Ringo & Paul having differing recall of events with Maureen Starkey, Linda McCartney & Cyn Lennon being gone & also not to mention John & george it is only going to get harder & harder for this to come to fruition and this is only volume 2 if he drags his ass any Longer Vol 3 has no hopes of seeing Light of day
also whatever happened to Mal Evans Auto Biography he was writing at the time of his death no one has ever accounted for those manuscripts ????

Volume 2 should end just before the vile meddling of Yoko begins so as not to poison the mood of that triumphant middle period.

"You can't cut Yoko out of Beatle history and she was the muse behind Johns later Beatle songs and his best solo work."
Definitely true. I'm just saying it would be a good cutoff point between v2 and v3 so that all the depressing stuff is in v3.

do as much research as you want but you will never know the truth if you wasn't there

    • @leecoulson4224

To a point I agree with you, but truth is always a subjective concept-no one can know what it was like to experience being a Beatle or to be involved with them at that time or at any point in their lives but the same can be said for any situation really- no one can know what it feels like to be US President unless you are the President, or what it was like to land on the moon or climb Everest or lead an army into battle, but it doesn't stop people who haven't done it writing about it and when they do it adds to our understanding and knowledge of the events. Mark isn't claiming to understand or have insights into what it was like to go through that time and experiences as an individual or as a Beatle but present a factual, evidence based timeline and narrative of events as they happened and a dispassionate analysis of the ramifications of these. There is only one eye of a hurricane but the hurricane sweeps many people up in its wake and it's valid and interesting to hear their stories too. Peace and love to you too.

Absolutely! I bought "Tune In" because I was told that it's an academic, scholastic, work. I was disappointed. It's far from academic or scholastic. Mr Lewisohn seems to labour under the delusion that inundating his reader with irrelevant detail constitutes a scholastic project. There are too many trivial (and embarrassing) details especially about John which this writer should have spared the reader from. I daresay John would not have been impressed. Quite truthfully, I am not looking forward to his second or third volume. I will not buy them. I would prefer spending the time listening to and delighting in the albums instead.
