In this particular case, Scott, I think you are probably okay. There isn't a question around whether or not she fed them poisonous mushrooms. She admitted she did. So technically she did kill them, but the question here is over the intent. Did she intend to kill them or was it an accident? That's the question in this particular case. I think you're fine with what you said.
I’m Australian and this mushroom mystery has gripped the nation. I’m a complete fan of your channel and when I saw the footage of her speaking to reporters, my first thought was ‘Wow, she is shady AF. I hope The Behaviour Panel cover this one’ and you did not disappoint! Lots of red flags with this case and the guy who died (her father-in-law) apparently said something to the paramedic that was accompanying him in the ambulance. Whatever this poor man said was so disturbing that the paramedic felt compelled to contact the police. Still under investigation … stay tuned. Keep up the great work guys! 👏🇦🇺🇦🇺
If I had bought mushrooms from an Asian store and accidentally killed 3 people, I would be hysterical and on the floor needing psychiatric treatment immediately. Furthermore, I would be racking my brains, trying to remember where I'd bought them to prevent a possible massive catastrophe instead of saying I couldn't remember and not assisting the police in their investigation.
Mushroom person here - there’s no way she didn’t know it would kill them. Death caps don’t just make you sick, a quarter cap is a lethal dose for an adult. Every mushroom hunter can identify death caps, they’re easy.
If the mushroom lady didn’t intentionally hurt those people, she would be telling EVERYONE where she got the mushrooms from so that other people don’t get hurt too
Yes! I think the Asian grocery was a complete fabrication, I think she threw out her food dehydrator because she dehydrated the poisonous mushrooms herself. (She used 2 types of mushrooms, the poisonous powdered ones and the store bought normal ones). By using powdered poisonous mushrooms, she’d be able to only put it on certain servings to affect certain people, rather than the entire dish. And using a recipe that includes obvious mushrooms is just a cover, rather than sprinkling the poisonous powder on a dish that did not include obvious mushrooms. By using a dish that had obvious mushrooms in it, she thought she’d be able to hide the powdered ones. But, she did not think it through much.
@@SydMountaineer exactly. She did NOT put the deadly mushrooms in the dish it’s self. Feeding the dish to her kids only makes sense if she contained the poison. It’s all apart of her attempt to look like it was an accidental poisoning. But no one would feed food that made people sick to their kids afterwards.
Very good point! And one that I didn't think of, despite being hospitalized twice for food poisoning. The more serious one was E. Coli which I got from eating a contaminated cheese steak at the Cafe in my office building. I had a 105 F fever, and was in there for 2 weeks. Because of the inflammation of the kidney pelvis, called pyelonephritis, my kidneys backed up and I was so swollen I spent 2 weeks in a bathrobe because of the swelling. The infectious disease doctors were super vigilant about tracking what I had eaten, and there were other victims. To this day, I have reactive arthritis from it. I didn't realize E Coli can stay dormant on your body and come out later somewhere else, like TB. But the point is, that they tracked who served the infected meat, the supply chain of where the restaurant purchased it etc And I took every chance I got to warn people about not eating meat in that Cafe. The fact that she isn't worried about other people buying them and getting sick is a huge red flag, because that's all I did! Was make sure my students, fellow teachers and everyone knew not to eat the beef
I don't think there is many here in Australia who believes this is an innocent accidental poisoning. All her interviews are chilling, and very informative.
I'm an Aussie and I saw another video where a lot of Aussies were chatting and every single one of them believe she's guilty. She just SCREAMS liar. Not to mention, that in 2022 her ex husband was in a coma for 16 days when he became violently ill from some unspecified abdominal illness. Guilty as sin. Also she threw her kitchen dehydrator into the dump. The husband was also supposed to be at this mushroom dinner but cancelled.
We have an expression here in Australia - 'an absolute shocker' - this doesn't mean that an event is 'shocking', but does mean that someone's performance is shockingly bad. 'An absolute shocker' describes each of Erin's interactions with the media perfectly. Blind Freddy could see the insincerity of her performances.
Adding another comment here on the (potentially) murderous mushroom woman, just with some fun facts. 1. The kids were at the movies during the lunch, but ate the food the following day after she scraped the mushrooms off. 2. In 2022 her ex husband was admitted to hospital with a "mysterious illness" after eating a meal she had made for him; they didn't think he would survive. He collapsed at home and was rushed to the hospital where he was put in an induced coma for 16 days, his loved ones were called in to say goodbye twice and he also went through three emergency surgeries, mainly on his small intestine. He was meant to attend the fatal lunch but cancelled last minute. 3. She says she is devastated to think the mushrooms may be related to the "illness" her loved ones suffered. Yes, just the illness, not the deaths. 4. She originally told police she discarded the dehydrator well before the lunch... turns out she actually threw it away afterwards because she "panicked". 5. When discussing the food dehydrator in the hospital, her ex-husband allegedly asked "Is that what you used to poison them" 6. In 2020 the state she lives in had numerous poisonings by death cap mushrooms, resulting in at least one fatality that I know of. There were news reports about the poisonings at the time, so IF she did it intentionally, I think that might be where the idea came from. 7. She bought the mushrooms from an Asian grocer, but she can't remember which one 8. The dish was basically covered in mushrooms, she used the death caps and button mushrooms she bought recently
I already thought she did it on purpose when I watched Under Investigation with Liz Hayes. Then when they got to the ex-husband’s “mystery illness,” I was at 100% certainty. What a friggin’ psychopath. They hinted on that show that she may have gotten rid of the kitchen gadget she rehydrated the mushrooms with right after the lunch, well before anyone got sick!! I can’t wait until all the results are in. I worry for the kids though. They need to be removed from her reach!!
I didn't know about the other cases.. interesting ! I don't know what the hobby is called, did the ex foraged his own mushrooms ? Think I heard that on "reporting live from my sofa" 's channel they were questioning the relationship to some illness he had prior?
The 2 things about the mushroom case that speaks volumes for me : #1. the fake crying -lack of tears and #2. She says she doesnt remember the little Asian market she got part of the mushrooms from. If I made a meal and killed off my guests, you better believe I'd remember the store. Id be beating down their door .
I enjoy how quietly amused Chase gets when Mark goes on tangents of little known facts. Mark, keep up the arcane knowledge and skills. I enjoy them too.
The mushroom woman cooked that lunch to discuss a reconciliation with her ex-husband, who was also supposed to be there. The pastor and others were there to ensure her 'mental health' was okay. The ex-husband pulled out of the lunch at the last minute. She took herself to hospital after the lunch too but was released because the doctors found nothing wrong. In May 2022 the ex-husband collapsed at home and was put into an induced coma after suffering a mystery stomach illness that left him in intensive care for 21 days. The mushroom woman formerly edited the local newspaper in which one article discussed growing your own mushrooms. She had a mushroom dehydrator at home which she dumped at the local tip after the lunch. She says she dumped it after someone scared her about losing her children, and she thought having a mushroom dehydrator didn't look good so she though she better get rid of it, but she says, she bought the mushrooms from the local supermarket and an Asian food shop. Despite Greg blushing about saying she did it when she hasn't yet been convicted, I think his comments about the possibility of her having previously tested out the poisoning might be spot on.
I hope women respond to this comment. I rarely cry, but I always carry a glass of water when I know I'll have to answer unfair accusations. I get so overwhelmed! I'd always thought that the UNFAIRNESS made me cry. However, I personally can't think on my feet to represent myself. Maybe I'm crying out of frustration at both the unfair situation and my inability to construct a step-by-step argument. Thanks for noting this; it's worth thinking about!
@@just.julie.axon.advocate I'm a guy, but I know this very well too, crying when I'm agitated but trying to keep it inside. I believe it's exactly this "catch-22" contradiction that causes the tears. In more personal situations, when I don't feel the pressure to keep my anger bottled up, I just start yelling (aka male crying).
Her ex husband was meant to come, but cancelled at the last minute. The other couple was her mother in laws sister and priest husband. They were all invited to do counselling as Erin wanted to get back with her husband. Last may, the ex was in a coma for 5 weeks with a mysterious illness that they didn’t think he would survive. Greetings from Australia
Mushroom lady killed both her ex in-laws and the Pastor's wife. They were having a lunch to discuss the children spending time with their dad. The Dad has been in hospital once before. He was very sick and he said that his ex wife tried to kill him.
@@zacciahwilliams5076eyes are on her all the time. Gotta get all your ducks in a row before laying charges. Forensic experts from outside sources working on 💯 identification of mushrooms (there are plenty of different kinds lurking about) and how they were procured.
If my guests died from eating the mushrooms I served in my beef wellington, you can be damn sure I'd be shouting from the rooftops that the shop I bought those from needs investigating, and that if anyone bought them there to throw them out. I mean, at the very least, you would be absolutely alarmed you purchased a deadly ingrediant on/by accident or accidently.
I immediately became suspicious of Erin the moment she said "I'm so devastated by the loss of Don and... Don's still in hospital.." It's like she is so removed from their deaths and so clearly expected all of them to die that she was reciting a statement she practiced in her head beforehand. And she didn't know that Don wasn't going to die immediately so she had to stop herself and remind herself that Don hadn't actually died yet. If it was an accident, you would think she would know exactly who was still alive because you would be clinging to hope that at least one of them would survive. You would feel so bad that you caused all this that the one bright spot would be the fact that one of them hadn't died yet. And that lone survivor would not be in your list of people who already passed away.
I thought her statements about Don were strange. But it makes sense if she were starting a rehearsed statement and then got herself into a muddle. And you are right about absolutely no indication that she is hoping that Ian gets better.
I live a few towns over from mushroom lady…apparently her husband was quite sick when he was with his wife, so much so that at one point he was in the ICU. They couldn’t figure out what was causing his symptoms, but he recovered in hospital. He left his wife, and his parents disliked his ex…apparently she had them over to visit to try and ‘reconcile’ their differences, and get them to convince their son to come back. He was supposed to be at the dinner also, but pulled out last minute. It’s all very suspicious….in my opinion. I’ve also heard locals talk about looking into the death of her parents, because allegedly she received quite the inheritance. FYI, she knows her mushrooms, and often went foraging for them. That’s all alleged, in my opinion, and all the other legal terms I need to use. Don’t come for me.
Well she’s been arrested and charged with murder now. They’re also investigating her ex husbands illness when he was living with her, so attempted murder might be added. It’ll be interesting to watch her try and squirm out of this …but I doubt she’ll take the stand.
@@Chumpess_X I know right. I was surprised to learn that she had been an air traffic controller at Tullamarine in her pre marriage days. Air traffic controller - very intelligent and able to make quick and accurate decisions under pressure versus the befuddled mummsy act. Blows my mind that she was having a party with her mates on the night prior to arrest. Almost Ivan Milat like in that she didn't see it coming. Interesting how these types of people always think that they are the smartest ones in the room. Mind you that level of arrogance actually works against them in my view and pretty much ends up getting them caught.
Wellington lady threw her dehydrater and microwave trays away at the tip the next day and lied about it. The toxic mushrooms grow near her house, she says she bought them at an Asian supermarket. Imported mushrooms are strictly controlled in Australia.
And the ex husband Simon Patterson spent 21 days in intensive care after collapsing at his home in May 2022 underwent 3 operations on the small intestine.
Also. Mushroom lady allegedly planned on poisoning her husband (who was in the process of divorcing her)but he didn’t show up for the deadly dinner. Smart guy! Smart guy!
@jujubean54ify Her husband was also very ill in Hospital with a stomach problem previous to the mushroom 🍄 poisoning… Could have been the first attempt 🤷♀️
In Australia our steering wheel is on the right side of the car, she was walking around to the passenger side, so she couldn’t have driven off, forward or backwards lol
For me the saddest most tragic part is the deaths of 3 lovely, good , kind ordinary older Australians. Then the kids of Erin...who are caught in this maelstrom . Pastor Ian Wilkinson who survived....who had to face the loss of his wife and relatives. The poor man. Then theres the ex husband who's both parents ,aunt died. Plus the awful incident in 2022 that left him in a coma for 6 weeks and now has a 'bag'. .
Greg is not in his office but still is dressed like he's a professional, Chase looks like he just came back from a vacation in the mountains, Mark declares that English created the English language, and Scott objects to botoxing the wazoo. An episode full of laughs and giggles.🤣🤣🤣
I love the stuff Scott leaves in and doesn't cut out, that might be the core reason why I watch TBP. It feels like a social event and I'm sure those are the regions of the brain that light up. Scott, love, if you ever debate on cutting or not, please lean towards leaving it 😊
OMG! Thank you so much for covering the mushroom case. I live in Victoria and it’s been so weird here on the news. Everything started out as more of a warning for when you’re out collecting mushrooms, there were segments on the news identifying the most dangerous types and experts talking about the dangers of collecting your own mushrooms. We were then told that the police were told that the police were told that the mushrooms were bought at two local shops, however no warnings were went out to locals to not eat any mushrooms and no products were recalled making us all very suspicious. It was only then that we started seeing the interviews, first with the ex-husband who previously spent time in hospital with similar symptoms, and then with her. From her first interview everyone has been asking why she hasn’t been arrested. She has also said in later interviews that she regrets giving a no comment interview to the police as she thinks that this is what put her in the spotlight - but its like just go talk to the police! I’m sure they will still talk to you, go answer what ever questions you want.
It was also interesting to note the the Mushroom Lady refused to be interviewed by the police and instead hired a lawyer, gave her statement to the lawyer and the lawyer passed it on to the police.
Just an FYI, the First Lady was arrested last week. The have arrested her boyfriend and the hired killer. Apparently there’s overwhelming evidence through texts, bank transactions, and a confession by the shooter.
“You’re writing looks like a font” HAS to be one of the best compliments on the 🌎! And speaking of body language- I love Chase’s expression as he looks at his writing after Scott says that 😂 🥰 🥰🥰 Love these guys
Im sure I heard a report on the Australian news that he ex husband had a mysterious illness a couple of months prior to the beef Wellington incident. They were speculating that she had tried poisoning him then too
Scott has a great point about her (1st woman) not showing grief & sadness for her ex-husband, the father of her kids - if a person has any empathy at all, they have strong feelings about the other parent of their kids, regardless of what happened in their previous marriage, regardless of that person’s personality, it’s their children’s other PARENT. PLUS, the way her ex died should cause a TON of grief, his 2 year old daughter seen and heard everything, she heard the gunshot, and even voiced that her Daddy was on the ground.
An important point with Erin Patterson is that her ex husband was invited but did not attend. He has since stated that he had eaten her cooking before and had felt unwell afterwards.
Scott was confident that the mushroom poisoner had "done something like this before." He even speculated "she's either done it on the dog..." He's right. It was on her ex-husband. He spent weeks in hospital - in a coma - last year with a "mystery illness." And he was scheduled to be at this lunch too but had to cancel at the last minute. After dodging two bullets like that, he really should buy himself a lottery ticket!
Ah, yes, I'm glad someone brought that up. It's difficult keeping track of the whole story because information is just scattered around everywhere, but you're absolutely right.
Good on you team! I noted the same in another comment. That was so incisive by Chase and Scott - they should be detectives themselves! @@TheBehaviorPanel
Greg is spot on when he talks about emotional crying vs manipulative crying. Most parents can differentiate the two and know when we need to act on it or not.
Being in Australia I have seen a few interviews on the fly with the 'chef'. Fortunately one of her victims, Ian, was critically ill but may have received an liver transplant. But what is creepier is he ex husband about 18 months ago, also ended up in hospital, seriously ill, with an unknown illness, but with similar symptoms, The very first interaction I saw with media told me what I needed to know.
I think the Australian mushroom lady are guilty as hell. The fact that she used a dehydrator which would concentrate the poison in the mushrooms so they would take up less space since you need two full mushrooms to kill one person. This people ate AT LEAST two mushrooms each since they reacted so violently. Mushroom poison gets resolved in water so the beef meat would also contain poison so no way she gave this to her children or ate it herself. That's why she made two! And the one she gave to the police for testing will not contain any poison. She's stupid but not that stupid.
Death cap mushrooms STINK. Two mushrooms each would be detected. It only takes a piece the size of an Australian 20c coin (3cm diameter) to kill an adult.
Yep ever since the day I watched the tiger Lady episode, I think that’s the episode that started Help help! And when Mark first talked about the claw car and Penelope pitstop, it was like memories came back to me that I have not thought about in 55 years!! I was like yes I remember that!!
“ She wishes things be different “ What she’s really saying is “ I wish it didn’t have to come to this” Her point of view is he made it so difficult and look what he made her do to him!
"Gail was like the mum I didn't have because my mum passed away four years ago" This sentence is just weird. The mum I didn't have...for the past 4 years. That's not how that phrase is used, generally speaking. My guess is she pivoted from using that expression to "prove" how much she "loved" Gail, to using her own Mother's death as a ploy for pity. Just speculating.
Aside from all the LOUD FLAGS in her words, she tried to dump the dehydrator AND her husband has ended up in hospital from a weird poisoning once before...🚩🚩
I suspect you're right, and that she at least semi-designed it in advance. Like while brainstorming, she thought a "She's like the mum I don't have (anymore)" type soundbyte was a good idea to get in her love/innocence AND poor life circumstances, but trying to get that into a sentence & making the tense account for MIL having passed just makes it sound more awkward & strange - in a way I wouldn't expect from sentences that flow off the cuff.
HaHa, I am from the same state as our mushroom lady and when I saw this clip with the reporters my first thought was “TBP will have a field day” 🤦♀️ I’m glad you are covering this, the fact that she was confused about Don and Ian, kept referring to Don being in hospital when Don had unfortunately died !! How the hell do you get that wrong ?? Not once … multiple times. She is a shocker. Love your work guys 😊
When my husband of 30 years announced that he'd filed for divorce a month before he told me and I got a letter in the mail telling me I'd been returned to single status, I cried off and on for weeks. We married at 19. Doubled over, racking cries, screaming, gasping for air. That's grief. I'd get hit with it at weird times. I gave myself permission to go through it as it came, then I sucked it up and kept going. If he died today, 10 years later, I would still grieve. Not like that, but it would be grief for the years that were good. These ladies are not grieving.
I'm so sorry my dear. Hope you're doing OK? I've never married (late 40s) but I take the oath 'till death do us part' very seriously. If I did marry, I would do everything in my power to keep us together. I sympathise because my sister was in a cruel and abusive marriage and she died this year of cancer, which I believe, her husband helped induce. Hang in there - I hope you find love again :)
Mmm..hmm. The only tears appear when she talked about wishing it could be different. Talk about vague. A normal person would say, I wish the father of my children had not been murdered.
Although these women are quite suss, saying, I would do this, so others should to. Well... that's not really how things work. There are people I would not grieve. Even though they are family. Wouldn't kill them either 😂 but just to say, just because I wouldn't grieve a family member I fell out with, doesn't mean others won't. Same with what you are saying. Just because you would do that, that's not now the benchmark
Mushroom lady is obviously guilty. There’s a risk she might lose custody of her children so she eliminated her inlaws and almost succeeded in eliminating her ex husband.
Any time I've cried in front of people, I've never pushed down from above my eyes to below. I've wiped from bottom up and outward, and turned my eyes upwards to try to keep from tearing up. Her shoving her eyes down, then looking at her fingers for tears. Yeah, no. Just no.
Ian Wilkinson, the surviving victim of the alleged mushroom poisoning, was released from hospital today. I would assume he's already spoken to police so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks. The police here won't make an arrest until they're certain they have all of their ducks in a row.
I just watched a video of him (pastor that survived) and its not helping the womans case, I will just say that. When people attempt to murder baptist pastors, they face an uphill battle with the general public. Its clear he is not disclosing anything about culpability which makes me think the investigation is actively considering her the main suspect. I don't know because I am new to the story, but I am a mycologist, and an intuitive and immediately called bs on the matter. There's no way severely overweight people go in the woods and 'accidently' pick up enough wild mushrooms to kill people. I am 5'5 and 100 lbs athletic build, and it takes a lot to hike out, identify the fungi, (very difficult) then to consistently bend over harvest, stand up, etc. If I was her defense attorney, I would argue she didn't have mens rea which means guilty mind. I would argue she meant to make them sick, but not kill them. I doubt prosecution could elucidate the difference comprehensively enough to convince a jury with proper witness prep. My question is who harvested these mushrooms, because this woman looks like a weeble wobble (if anyone remembers) them. I can't imagine her setting down the fritos and walking out in the woods to harvest the destroying angels. They are not often in multiples in one area. That said, anyone with any concern or caution, natural bars in foraging, would collect these white amanita sp. without sophisticated analysis. So anyone who claims it was an 'accidental' identification, is lying. There are very few definitely deadly mushrooms, I am not sure if the public understands that. As foragers, we teach people to avoid this distinct species altogether, as well a white mushrooms in general in the wild. In sum, no person makes this mistake without intentionally seeking deadly wild mushrooms. She also allegedly claims they came from an asian market, but I guess that is because someone else used that excuse to successfully avoid culpability in a nearly identical situation at the beginning of the summer. From what I remember hearing, an polynasian woman killed her in laws and she survived, she claimed to have bought them at an asian market. I'm interested in hearing from fellow mycologists. Also, whether any aus foragers can comment on the availability of Destroying angels, and Amanita Sp. specifically in the area where this woman was. Let's get some expert mycologists to help prosecution bring the killer to justice. I'm personally offended on behalf of the entire kingdom of fungi to be used for nefarious means. One thing is for sure, the woman doesn't often eat mushrooms because they are very high in fiber, and this woman looks backed up over an extended period. I apologize for specifically discussing her body type and fat shaming, but it is quite relevant I believe, because she didn't forage those fungi. We need to find the true forager, or the online purchase of these killers. Just speculation, I am not an expert, nor would I claim to be. Just a different perspective after a 10 year immersive in fungal biology, ecology, identification and processing. I do hope the guilty are brought to swift justice if the rule of law is still in place in this crazy world. Final note, I would never mix 🍄 with 🐄. disgusting. cheers. )
If you were going to spend all day in the kitchen making Beef Wellington surely you would have eaten it yourself, she obviously didn't eat any. It's a real treat why wouldn't she have given it to her kids ? Previously her ex suffered similar symptoms to mushroom poisoning and was in a coma but pulled through. She's as guilty as sin.
@janpascoe7924 If she ate it she would be a lot sicker. I heard she didn’t eat it because she doesn’t like mushrooms. What Asian market sells poisonous mushrooms?
@@Lololeelee no it was the kids who had the mushrooms scraped off because they don't like them. She, apparently, did eat it and she did go to hospital with suspected food poisoning, but was discharged rather quickly.
The fact that she made Beef Wellington, of all things, makes me think this was an especially grand plan on her part. Perhaps she wanted to make sure they ate it. And that they were very much obliged to eat it. If someone offers you food, you can't exactly say "Oh no thanks... we're not here to eat" if they've gone to the trouble of making Beef Wellington for you.
The first time I watched Erin Patterson's video with the media, I noticed that she stated a couple of times "I loved them", referring to the victims of the poisonings. Just because someone has died, you don't suddenly stop loving them. I would have expected her to say "I love them", especially as one member of the lunch party was and still is, alive. So that was an immediate red flag to me. The other thing I noticed was she shook her head ("no") when she said "who were some of the best people I ever met". She actually repeated that statement, also shaking her head "no" the second time. She also shook her head "no" when she stated "I hope with every fibre of my being that Don pulls through". More red flags.
Soooooo many things make NO SENSE which to me means Erin is guilty. She went shopping even though she’s a prime suspect in deaths of 3 people and potentially a 4th one?! Shopping would be the LAST thing on my mind if this happened to me. And why wouldn’t she eat her own food that she prepared for lunch and shared with others? Why get rid of a food dehydrator if she’s innocent? Why not answer all the questions she has been asked? Why would she lie to police at all (she admitted she lied for some things)? How come she can’t remember the second shop where she apparently bought the mushrooms but can remember other details?! And the FAKE CRYING… omg that was soooo bad! So I wholeheartedly believe she is guilty!
yes, if you watch both tv news crew interviews -there was another one, or footage of her in the same clothes and with a different bag. The bag n this interview is from a supermarket, the bag from the other one is a generic white plastic bag. She went shopping on both days. Hopefully to buy a new bloody outfit ;)
interesting you say she's done this before- that turns out to be spot on- her ex husband has said she tried to poison him 4 times and she has now been arrested. he was hospitalised the last time and in a coma for 16 days- a pretty severe reaction for "food poisoning"..
It takes two days to make Beef Wellington. Searing the roast on Thursday, Covering it in a mustard mushroom paste then wrapping it in a pastry dough, then plastic, nice and tight. Next letting it rest overnight in the frige. The next day cooking it Friday dinner. It's a pain, so it's not something you make every day.
Updates from Australian news: 2022: TUESDAY, AUG 8 The Herald Sun reveals Erin Patterson’s ex-husband, Simon (picture right), suffered a mystery gut illness in May 2022, which landed him in an induced coma for 16 days. He also had to have 3 abdominal surgeries. And then: THURSDAY, AUG 10 The Herald Sun reveals Simon Patterson told friends last year that he believed his ex-wife Erin Patterson had tried to poison him
Beef Wellington is wrapped in pastry so she could have put the mushroom paste inside only part of the beef Wellington she could have marked the pastry to know which part was safe to eat for herself.
Yet no food has neen recalled and no other deaths from shop bought mushrooms. And she "cant remember" which Asian shop... Well plenty of other random people would be sick or dead by now if that were true.
I truly love how Scott just can't hold back his true opinion. Mushroom lady is just an open and shut case. She's *obviously* guilty. Yeah yeah, we'll half-heartedly add the "alleged" but it's less than a technicality. She'll go to prison for murder, end of.
Hello fellas, the "Mushroom Lady" was charged for murder last month! You HIT EVERY SINGLE POINT. It's incredible how sharp and insightful you all are. When this video was uploaded, the rumour mill was still running without any proof yet - but you still saw right through her! Hats off to you all. I love this channel.
So odd that if a shop sold poisonous mushrooms - wouldn’t you be off the charts 😡 angry at them?! But she can’t remember the shop??!! Strange that no other customers died!! Strange that she didn’t poison herself from that meal. Strange her ex husband had severe gastro after eating her cooking on a previous occasion. 🚩 🚩
I'm from country Victoria, I believe she said she was in Melbourne (capital city) when she bought the mushrooms. If I was in Melbourne and bought mushrooms I can assure you I wouldn't know the shop name. But I could probably take you there. That said, I think she's deliberately fed them that type of mushroom. But not remembering the shop isn't strange to me. It's also not strange to me that she remembered that it was hand written (I would actually expect that it would be). But where is the package?!
"What would you tell him if you could speak with him?" - "I wish it could have been different." NO-NO-NO! The most guilty response possible. I personally lost my son's father to a tragic death when our son was 5. We were separated, divorcing. What would I tell him? "We love you. We miss you. We're devastated.." etc. "Things could've been different"?? Just, nope. FAKE.
I'm Australian and when I saw this interview on the news here I thought she did it. Apparently her ex-husband was also supposed to attend the lunch but changed his mind at the last minute. No real tears from her, just seemed way too put on and over-acting her part.
@@janewaterfield648 The ex husband, Simon was admitted to hospital in 2022. With a terrible life threatening bowel illness. In ICU for 6 weeks. Ian Wilkinson the only survivor from the lunch went into liver failure and was in a coma for 5/6 weeks.
She was Charged yesterday with ALOT of charges! @TheBehaviorPanel i hope you' s do an update on this when they arrest her or during her trial! You's are awsome and called her out 100%!
2nd video. Not sure if your aware, about a year ago her husband nearly died in hospital from undiagnosed reason. She is also a local mushroom picker and certainly knows the difference between fungi. The lunch was supposed to be a meeting to get back together with her husband, he didn’t go at the last minute. His parents we’re against reconciliation.
The mushroom woman from Australia is 💯 guilty of murder. Not 1 doubt it in my mind. There's evidence to suggest that she had been poisoning her ex husband in exactly the same way, to the point that he had been hospitalized more than once as a result. Also in a perceived family violence encounter women are more likely to use poisoning than any other method. This seems very much open and closed to me.
When she says “They were the best people” she is shaking her head in the negative. She never has tears. With that amount of crying they should be streaming down her face.
If I accidentally killed 3 people and possibly 4 by a meal I cooked for them, I’d be hysterical, certainly unable to drive, just a total and complete mess, probably sedated too. And re the possible checking for mascara running…who the hell puts mascara on after an event like this? Also, has she ever cooked a beef Wellington before? Did she normally cook dishes like this?
Yeah that “I wish it could be different,I wish it didn’t have to be this way” Sent shivers down my spine. That’s something you’d say to someone before you killed them!! That was so off and weird to me. It’s like she thinks he chose his own fate by crossing her. Yuk!!
Erin said she was like the mother i never had when referring to one of the deceased, then proceeded to say her mum died 4 yrs ago. I found that rather odd
I was divorced for 2 years when my ex passed away. The most heartbreaking moment is when you have to explain to young kids that their dad is gone. I took his death hard.
Totally agree with you Mark. Big formal dinner that's like an event.( it isn't like she invited them over for a barbecue and the hamburgers had E. Coli). She's trying to portray herself as the beloved daughter in law, showing the world just how much she still loves her former in-laws, therefore, she won't be seen as suspicious. he tears are fear, I think. She thought she had come up with something really clever by picking this death head mushroom. It's funny because as soon as I heard it was mushroom poisoning, I knew it would be death head. There was a British detective novel about 100 years ago where the victim was a child who died of food poisoning by eating death head mushrooms. The aunt and uncle were arrested and claimed that the mushrooms had been purchased from a local grocer. He actually raised a huge commotion at the coroner's inquiry stating that there is no way that even one deaths head mushroom could have been mixed in with the ones he sold because they were several days old. This is where our mushroom lady messed up. First, she picks a mushroom that while extremely poisonous (1/2 of a mushroom cap is enough to kill an adult), is not local to Australia and is rarely found there, so she had to go searching for this mushroom. Second, as mentioned in the novel, this mushroom only looks like a normal, non-poisonous button mushroom when it is very fresh.. ie. newly grown, and newly picked. Even if it is not picked, as it gets bigger the cap flattens out, the stem and gills change color and it no longer looks like a regular mushroom,. and if you pick it when it is newly grown, within a couple of days it will develop a very distinctive, extremely unpleasant odor, and can even turn black. So this is not the kind of mushroom one can buy or pick and then leave in the fridge for a few days. Once it is a few days old, there is absolutely no way it can be confused with an edible mushroom. This is how, in the book, the grocer was able to prove he couldn't have sold a poisonous deathcap, because the mushrooms he had sold were several days old; and this is where mushroom lady boxed herself in. She cannot provide a receipt or name of a store where she bought these mushrooms because unless they were picked when they had just grown, and then dried immediately, they could never have passed as normal dried mushrooms. And here enters the food dehydrator, and why she had to throw it away. Because this would be a mushroom she either came across a while ago randomly and decided to dry it and save it for a future poisoning, or she spent time hunting for it. She had to dehydrate it right away to keep the appearance and odor from changing, and this answers the really puzzling question of why you would use dried mushrooms when you have fresh ones available. She had to use the fresh non poisonous mushrooms which she either foraged or bought, and then mix in the deathcap mushrooms she had previously dried. They'll end up finding her guilty I imagine due to these factors, because she happened to pick a mushroom that she either had to find and dry herself in advance (shows premeditation), or pick the poisonous mushrooms fresh the day or day before she cooked the meal, and then there would have been no need for a food dehydrator. She should have either picked a poisonous mushroom that was common to the area (that would have made her story more convincing) or one that did not change shape and start to stink a few days after picking it. Honestly, if she wanted to poison the whole family and get away with it and make it look like natural causes, she should have gone with thallium. It can take weeks to kill you, and usually produces different symptoms in each person, so she might have gotten away with it, lol. (at least that is according to an Agatha Christie novel I read, lol. She was always accurate with her poisons, :) This was poor planning on her part. Now she is realizing her mistake and is terrified because this is not going down like she thought it would.
That was interesting about the mushrooms smelling awful as they dry/age. About the dehydrator, as I heard about it from the news, my thought was that she used the dehydrator to make the cooked mushrooms dryer before using them in the Beef Wellington. Surely mushrooms are not so expensive in Australia that they must be dehydrated for future use? Genuine question.
Here is my take on the mushroom lady: She was ditched by the people she loved and was very attached to, and felt she didn't get the love from them that she deserved (they ate the filet without her after all). She cooked them a filet wellington to show how much she loved them but out of revenge and grief over being not loved back by them and being excluded, she put the deadly mushrooms in it to maybe cause them the same hurt that she felt. She didn't expect them to die from that. She cannot comprehend that they actually died and she is truly sorry that they are gone because she loved them. (I know someone who could have pulled that of). Very narcissistic personality (it is all about her). For the first lady whose ex-husband was murdered: all she expressed is grief over how this went down in front of her daughter after a nice date night. She says she wished that it didn't have to be this way. But she isn't really sorry that he is dead. He brought it on himself and she hated him. I suspect she didn't expect this to happen then way it did.
As an Australian we KNOW not to put death cap mushies in anything, It's kinda our thing. They are called death cap for a reason. You don't even touch them if you see them and if you kick them with your shoes you run home and fling those shoes in the laundry sink and disinfect them. Or better still just f u c k i n g throw them out. The police will sort it all out.
By the way the year before her husband got very sick and was put in an induced coma and then she helped look after him until he recovered. Maybe she had a similar plan for this to be the hero of the day. Apparently she is supposed to know a lot about mushrooms. The next day she said she panicked and threw the dehydrator in the refuse centre. The police recovered this later. She also admitted she had lied to the police. I want to know where she got those deadly mushrooms? They were definitely not from the supermarket or Asian grocery shop, as she proclaims. She said she scraped the mushrooms off the dish when the children came home as they don't like mushrooms. She said she ate the beef wellington but she didn't get sick, although apparently she went to the hospital also. The story keeps changing since this happened. Her brother-in-law is still waiting for a liver transplant in hospital his wife was her sister. Her ex husband was invited to the lunch, but he declined to go.......lucky man. Love your show..... Elizabeth from Melbourne, Australia.
I saw some report a little while ago and apparently she had also thrown out her cooking utensils, strainers etc. Did you see the drawings at her old place? The painter subcontractor was freaked enough that he took photos. It was in the news and then the cops said they wanted a look at the photos he took.
@@macca777 Hi Macca, I only heard about her throwing out the dehydrator she used for the mushrooms and then admitted to the police she had lied about some details. I also have not seen the drawings at her old place. Do you know why the subcontractor was freaked out? Thank you for your message. Elizabeth
Her ex husband was supposed to be at the lunch too, but he cancelled last minute. He also become very ill suddenly last year with stomach issues and ended up in a coma and the hospital has no idea what caused it.🤦🤷🇦🇺
Scott, the mushroom lady might have tried with her husband before this. There’s an Australian show called Under Investigation with Liz Hayes. They recently did a show about the mushroom deaths. On that show, her ex-husband said he was violently ill with some similar symptoms and he was in the hospital, I think he said, for 6 weeks! After eating a meal cooked by his wife I think. Very suspicious!
Apparently she was an air traffic controller at one stage..not so dumb....and tried to poison her husband 3 times. He was hospitalised but recovered....3 times. He was invited to lunch but didn't show up. Love your show......
Before all of this, Erin’s husband was in *ICU for 25 days,* and they never figured out the cause of his illness. Elderly, the very young, or sicker folks are more likely to die from poisonous mushrooms, or people who have liver or kidney problems. *The ONE who lived is waiting on a liver transplant.*
This is so satisfying to watch about Erin Patterson. Watching this unfold in Aus, we have been able to tell from the start how much she’s concealing. She threw away a dehydrator and then lied to police about when she threw it away Meaning she’s dehydrated the mushrooms probably And then probably ground it up and put it through the gravy or sauce. That’s the conclusion a lot of us are coming to. Why throw away the dehydrator? If mushrooms are dehydrated they can become tough or crispy, so it would only make sense to grind them into a powder if they’re going back into a dish. Meaning this is calculated, to try to conceal the deadly mushrooms. Then potentially used regular mushrooms through the rest if so. 🤷🏻♀️
I watched the 20/20 Australia or 60 Minutes Australia episode on Erin. They explained that the Death Cap Mushrooms grow in the wild in the location surrounding her house. She foraged them, dehydrated them, and drove on the Friday before Saturday's lunch to dispose of the dehydrator. Then, she also bought package button mushrooms from the supermarket. She supposedly mixed the two varieties to make the "paste or sauce" for inside the Beef Wellington. Supposedly, she "scraped" the mushroom part off her and the childrens' portion, and she and the boys also ate leftovers the following day. Erin invited her ex, his parents, and his maternal aunt and uncle (the pastor) over for lunch to discuss them getting back together. Her former in-laws didn't like her. Her ex declined on the invitation. To me, could she have made two dishes, one with the mushrooms and one without, and was cold and calculating on which entrée was served to whom? If I remember correctly, it takes 12 hours for the organs to be so damaged before anyone seeks treatment. The four guests ended up at the same hospital. Only her father-in-law(?) hadn't died, although he ended up going into a coma and was horrifically ill. This is no mistake. This is cold, savage, and hateful.
@@Christine-777she only claimed that she scraped the mushroom off for her children, not herself, she claims she ate it too... She said she bought some button mushrooms from the store and apparently had bought dehydrated mushrooms from an Asian grocer "a few months ago" so she's likely foraged them and dehydrated them herself and then got rid of the dehydrator.

It is such a pleasure to see these non verbal cues every time I watch you guys. It is these lovely dynamics that brings me back, just as much as your behavior analyses of your subjects. Keep up the great work you guys! You are a winning combination of both professionals and friends and we all love that about you!
I like this too, one of the earliest videos they were all in one room and you couldn't see the non-verbal interaction as the camera focused on them one at a time. The mushroom cook has no tears. I noticed that when I first saw the video. She was rubbing her eyes checking for tears but none appeared. I used to live near Leongatha on a farm and we picked mushrooms every April. I was a kid and knew what not to pick. 🇦🇺
Beef Wellington recipes mostly say 2 hours 30 minutes for preparation, or you can prepare it ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for up to a day before the final baking step. So, not as elaborate as some are suggesting, but also not a meal you can just throw together. You would have to plan to make it and have to be an experienced cook to get it right.
You guys are spot on! Number 2 hubby had a "mystery" stomache illness that nearly killed him some time before, and had said he thought she was trying to poison him. Her story kept changing about where she got the shrooms. Not suss at all🤣 Thanks fellas!!
Any chance you guys could do something on Lucy Letby? As an ex-paeds nurse, I'm astounded that this nurse got away with killing those babies as long as she did. Would love to see what red flags she leaked from any footage that you can dig up. Admittedly it isn't easy to find any but I'm not the best sleuth!
Yes! I just watched an analysis on a British channel called crime scene 2. Not a lot of clips to share with us, but I love seeing genuine and smart ANALYSIS.
An important note here. Erin Patterson didn't cook Beef Wellington, she made Beef Wellington pie. The difference is very relevant. Beef Wellington involves making a mixture of mushrooms, wine, onions and herbs, which is pulsed in a food processor to make a paste, which is then put over the beef with prosciutto before covering in pastry. In comparison, a beef wellington pie is made using mushroom pieces, beef, herbs, onions, etc, which is then covered in pastry. A pie is a lot easier to make than a traditional beef wellington. You would simply cook the filling for the pie, then cover in supermarket bought puff pastry and stick in the oven. Not hard to do at all. In other words, she didn't spend a couple of days making a traditional beef wellington to show "love", or to impress. Erin Patterson stated that her children ate leftovers from the beef wellington pie, as they were not present at the lunch because they were at the movies. She also stated that she scrapped off the mushrooms because her children don't like mushrooms. Something else to note is that it wouldn't matter which method was used, because death cap mushrooms would taint the meal, meaning even if the children didn't eat the mushrooms, there would still be significant levels of toxins which would have leached into the rest of the dish, consequently making her children extremely ill, possibly resulting in death.
Ok so what you're saying is she didn't put death cap mushrooms in the pie, because if she did the kid's would also be sick? But she did because people ARE dead? So? Or are you saying the kid's didn't actually eat the pie?
Was it something they Ate before they came to the Dinner, have they looked in to that,? I have eaten mushrooms all my life, never been sick from them was the meal tested for poison mushrooms alone? What about the meat? And how are you supposed to react when something like that happens, I knew Lindy Chamberlain personal, and look what happened to her, please don't be Judge an Jury ...... ...... ....... ?.....

I wonder why it's a mystery! It should be fully obvious what happened!
I dunno about "gripped the nation" but it's suspect for sure.
Just what I thought too. Many people here do the foraging and they would not make that kind of serious mistake.
If the mushroom lady didn’t intentionally hurt those people, she would be telling EVERYONE where she got the mushrooms from so that other people don’t get hurt too
Bingo!
I agree! Asian grocery my derriere! Otherwise, why didn't other customers die ?@@SydMountaineer
But the point is, that they tracked who served the infected meat, the supply chain of where the restaurant purchased it etc
And I took every chance I got to warn people about not eating meat in that Cafe.

5. When discussing the food dehydrator in the hospital, her ex-husband allegedly asked "Is that what you used to poison them"
6. In 2020 the state she lives in had numerous poisonings by death cap mushrooms, resulting in at least one fatality that I know of. There were news reports about the poisonings at the time, so IF she did it intentionally, I think that might be where the idea came from.
7. She bought the mushrooms from an Asian grocer, but she can't remember which one
Don’t treat her statements as facts. She’s lied multiple times.
@@pnwlady yeah, that's kinda the point of this comment; in my opinion, she can't be trusted.
I didn't know about the other cases.. interesting ! I don't know what the hobby is called, did the ex foraged his own mushrooms ? Think I heard that on "reporting live from my sofa" 's channel they were questioning the relationship to some illness he had prior?
The mushrooms lady’s husband was sick last year with a “mystery illness” and was in a coma and in the ICU for weeks.

Greg is SO RIGHT when he says that women cry from frustration!
I hope women respond to this comment. I rarely cry, but I always carry a glass of water when I know I'll have to answer unfair accusations. I get so overwhelmed! I'd always thought that the UNFAIRNESS made me cry. However, I personally can't think on my feet to represent myself. Or maybe .... SHE DID IT!?!
Ian is the one in hospital
I thought her statements about Don were strange. But it makes sense if she were starting a rehearsed statement and then got herself into a muddle. And you are right about absolutely no indication that she is hoping that Ian gets better.
Don died. Ian is in hospital
This is true. My understanding is that she was a very experienced forager.
I feel like she was PRACTICING...And I am fairly psychic. (It's a blessing and a curse.)
Look at the wall of death in her house. Guilty as sin
I'm an Aussie. Her ex husband was supposed to be there for dinner too but he cancelled at the last minute.

"Like a dentist wrote it with his feet," said Greg. That made me laugh out loud.

Her ex husband was in icu last year with major gut issues, the family were called to say their goodbyes - but he survived
Thanks for the update!

Im sure I heard a report on the Australian news that he ex husband had a mysterious illness a couple of months prior to the beef Wellington incident. They were speculating that she had tried poisoning him then too
June 2022 when ex got sick and finished up in a coma.
Also the fact that he asked her if a dehydrator she had taken to the dump was used to kill them
Scott was confident that the mushroom poisoner had "done something like this before." He even speculated "she's either done it on the dog..."
He's right. It was on her ex-husband. He spent weeks in hospital - in a coma - last year with a "mystery illness." And he was scheduled to be at this lunch too but had to cancel at the last minute. After dodging two bullets like that, he really should buy himself a lottery ticket!
😮!
I agree, but I never quite get that 'lottery ticket' argument. Surely he's 'used up' all his good luck, eh?
That’s crazy. These guys are awesome. Good instincts Scott
Exactly
Death cap mushrooms STINK. Two mushrooms each would be detected. It only takes a piece the size of an Australian 20c coin (3cm diameter) to kill an adult.
I LOVE how you guys have Mark saying "HEY-ELP!" At the end.

“ She wishes things be different “
What she’s really saying is
“ I wish it didn’t have to come to this”
Her point of view is he made it so difficult and look what he made her do to him!
'They never did anything wrong to me'. When i heard this initially on Australian media, I was like what?! Why would she say that?
Exactly. That was like saying, look over there I don't have a motive

I truly love how Scott just can't hold back his true opinion. Mushroom lady is just an open and shut case. She's *obviously* guilty. Yeah yeah, we'll half-heartedly add the "alleged" but it's less than a technicality. She'll go to prison for murder, end of.
I sure hope so because just all the evidence points to her doing this. The amount of painful suffering for those victims...just awful.
I think when Mushroom Lady repeatedly says "I loved them" she means she once did. Something changed and she's now sorry this had to happen to them.

It’s crazy to me how the second woman didn’t even know which people had died…. She said twice that Ian died, when it was actually Don.
She doesn't want to answer their question on where the mushrooms came from, he asked twice and ignored them.
its come out since
By the way the year before her husband got very sick and was put in an induced coma and then she helped look after him until he recovered.
Ooo I’ll look that up
😮!
Apparently she was an air traffic controller at one stage..not so dumb....and tried to poison her husband 3 times. He was hospitalised but recovered....3 times. He was invited to lunch but didn't show up. Love your show......
……some people can pass exams’, but have the IQ of a gnat. She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed………
She threw away a dehydrator and then lied to police about when she threw it away
Meaning she’s dehydrated the mushrooms probably
And then probably ground it up and put it through the gravy or sauce.
@leeshybaby9541 Twisted woman. Her fake crying and her ability to finally muster up a single tear is mind-boggling. People she knew/know and supposedly loved have been incredibly harmed and killed. 🫣
Chase's notes are not only exquisite, but wise words as well :) BONUS; Scott's dentists handwriting joke YAY!! You all are an amazing bunch and SO enjoyable to watch. It's spending time with friends. Thanks for your time and efforts.
I love to watch your non verbal behavior as you guys watch and listen to each other’s behavior analysis of your subjects. If I had to do an analysis of your non verbal behavior, I would say, you all show respect, excitement and eagerness to hear what the other one has to say and I can see signs of love and true friendship between all of you towards each other.
Chase is as friendly as the others but seems most aware of his body language 'leakage', the trouble is we now all know what remaining too still and non-reactive compared to baseline can sometimes mean! (Thank you for listening to my Ted talk on how to make body language experts self-conscious)
Scott was hysterical in this. Watching as an Australian viewer and this case is huge here right now. Awesome as always. Thank you!
I’m From Australia 🇦🇺 and mushroom lady has had her children removed from her custody . Speaks volumes 😶.
It does speak volumes and so does her behavior. Next stop, prison.
How recently did that happen? Thanks for the info!
“They were some of the best people I ever met” while she shakes her head
The mushroom cook has no tears. I noticed that when I first saw the video. She was rubbing her eyes checking for tears but none appeared. I used to live near Leongatha on a farm and we picked mushrooms every April. I was a kid and knew what not to pick. 🇦🇺
Apparently so does she 🤦♀️. It’s so bazar isn’t it
Beef Wellington recipes mostly say 2 hours 30 minutes for preparation, or you can prepare it ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for up to a day before the final baking step.
Thanks for the info!
And how are you supposed to react when something like that happens, I knew Lindy Chamberlain personal, and look what happened to her, please don't be Judge an Jury ...... ...... ....... ?.....
So did she bake TWO pies then?
