What a great documentary, I can relate in so many ways. I have HF autism and in Ireland they have a special college that takes people with autism. I’m going to start a course soon and I’m really excited.

We need more programs on autism like this! My daughter is autistic and I could see so many of her behaviours here. It helps parents like me understand the challenges we face and others acceptance

1962, me sitting in the school yard alone watching contemplating this madness called high school when a classmate sits close looks at me intensely almost affectionately saying, "You know bud, there is just something about you I don't like". I understand now, this precious, most rare, really truthful gift of directness, albeit painful ~~

I have autism and anxiety but people know me better than I am now because I am autistic sometimes I go to college when I'm 19 and study law and sociology and economics and business and technology and social media and jobs that I wanted to do and when I am 20 I'm going to work in mcdonalds and sell chips cheeseburgers and milkshakes and mcflurrys and stuff and my family and friends and teachers and assistants and helpers are very proud of me and I'm just really proud of myself

I believe that I got autism and personality disorder and I only found this out about a few years ago and my late mum know about that when I was a little boy but she didn't say anything to me mainly to protect or upset me. And also I'm a big train enthusiast like the lad in the first bit of the documentary. Andrew

andrejus rascinskis Schools don’t get autism, whatever they may claim. Not even the well funded private ones. I hope your council will let you home educate your son. My son loves home schooling! He has been home educated since year 7 & he also loves the fact that he can mix with all sorts of kids (autistics & not) socially, who have the same thrilling sporting opportunities & mad music-making interests, as he has. He’s so happy. Home schooling is uniquely child centred. www.amazon.co.uk/Home-Educating-Autistic-Spectrum-Children/dp/1843100371/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Autism+paths+are+made+by+walking&qid=1560446036&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Andrejus & Paul, my son is 16 now. He is well-adjusted & full of inner joy! He was NOT vaccinated at all because his consultants prohibit vaccination for someone with severe immunity issues who relied on daily prednisolones from infanthood & azathioprine from about 9-12. He has his first vaccine at about 12 or 13 but was already diagnosed with non-verbal classic autism aged 2-3. Thus vaccine did NOT cause his autism.
Autism has pros & cons & if you love your child wholly & unconditionally, he/she will thrive. There are excellent practical resources out there - books of wisdom from Eric Schopler to manage crises behaviour in the present & from Pat Howlin on long term management of ASD & planning for adulthood. There are reasons to hope. Paul is wrong! Autism isn’t bad as schools and people like Paul will tell you & it isn’t challenging behaviour needing a cure, not even low-functioning autism. Autism is a way of living.
For example, autism defines my boy but does not limit him at all. He is a role model wherever he goes! My teen who is joy-filled, lives a full life with no challenging behaviour & brings joy to people: ua-cam.com/video/sRrXf-hyo9Q/v-deo.html He’s also a caring community volunteer & aspires to paid work in the near future. My son’s educational psychologist told me that “his autism in a way saves him” from his learning disability because his special obsessions give him his creativity, his total transparency & honesty, his joy, hope, community & very importantly, his courage to change every day.

My child was in Wattville Primary School and he is diagnosed as Autistic. The Headteacher has excluded him just to remove me from the governor body. The video is nice but this is not the truth. The truth that the parents are suffering from rude people who treat the Autistic children less than the animals.

It is a true reflection, just not enough time to talk about all the suffering that parents go through aswell as the kids..

Great little documentary ❤ Autism truly is a gift if only there was more understanding. Our special humans don't need to adapt, it's the world that needs to adapt ❤

@Lewis C. there could be a reason as to why someone is a certain size like a medical condition etc so don't judge people and be so rude.

If people would accept that my "normal" comes in a different shape than yours does it would make my life a lot easier and happier! And it would help my family too. Autism is not a disability. The disability comes from being treated as less simply because I'm different.

I have never believed Autism to be a real thing in the sense of it being a disability. Really i'd just say it's a group of people that happen to think in the same sort of way.

They should take the boy with a swearing problem to church to learn about Jesus. Autisitc or not they can learn to accept Jesus and turn away from their sin. An intellectual disabiliity is not an excuse to swear.

Autism is not an intellectual disability. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you condemn someone. No hate like Christian love, right?
