Buying A Two Rock Amp - Classic Guitar Reverb VS Bloomfield Drive

  • Which Two Rock Amp to get? Two Rock Classic Guitar Reverb or a Two Rock Bloomfield Drive? What a lovely position to be in! :)
A student of mine has been wanting to get one for a while and asked if I would help him out and put the 2 amps through there paces. Helps even more when you're playing lovely guitars such as the PRS John Mayer Silver Sky, Gibson 1959 Les Paul Custom Shop, Xotic S type and a beautiful Gibson ES-335. Of course after choosing the amp. Pete realises he wants one of the guitars!! :)

    ....................................................................................................................
Mike has been playing the guitar since he was 12 years old, and from that first moment his love affair with music and the instrument began. Fresh out of school at the age of 16 he attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford and completed a year-long Diploma course.
After finishing the ACM his life as a full time musician began, playing in numerous bands and touring up and down the country playing iconic venues such asThe Shepherds Bush Empire, The Astoria, The Underworld and London’s Jazz Café. He’s also been fortunate enough to support industry legends Paul Weller, Blondie and Katie Melua.
Mike’s session work has led to his working on a variety of projects - from performing with stars such as Ricky Wilson and Diana Vickers, to appearing in many TV shows and adverts. Mike loves being on stage performing, but is equally at home recording in a studio - where he has worked with Alex Von Soos (All Saints, Seal, Atomic Kitten), Mike Horner (The Prodigy, Shakira, Bloc Party), and Mike Chapman (Blondie, Suzi Quatro)

I love this ritual, so to speak. We see the phases of:
    1) I can finally afford it
    2) the drive to the shop, with carefully selected tunes for the road.
    3) the anticipation mounting as you step out of the car.
    4) setting your ideas on the gear for the first time.
    5) sales guy goes above and beyond to get you anything you need. And you chat about how wonderful music is.
    6) the bastard brings out a vintage guitar which you can also afford.
    7) loading both pieces into your car while the wife looms in the back of your mind.

I just saw him two weeks ago, he played for free in Saint Louis Missouri for the Saint Louis Blues (our hockey team made it to and won the stanley cup final!) pre-game party. I guess I could afford one of the bigger amps, but probably wouldn't ever spend the money, anyway. I did get a small studio signature 35 recently, though, and it also sounds huge. there is a difference in sound quality vs. cheaper amps that as a cynic, I wouldn't have believed as being much more than hype. they sound enormous without having the kind of ugly flab at the bottom that fenders can get when pushed hard.

Is it illegal to play rock on an es-335 in the US? Back when the DJ'S and FEDs pulled the switch on rockabilly and rock'n roll in America in 1958 for 5 years, everybody but Buddy Holly had been playing Gretsch's, 335s and the like. And when the brits smuggled the music back to America in 1963, george harrision was playing a casino. But by '68 nearly everybody was playing a strat, tele or lp to this day. Illegal in America or maybe two-rock forbids music stores demoing their amps with 335s; there are (was) a half dozen hanging on the wall (and Peach Tree is in England not Atlanta GA USA).
