  • Inside a Two-Rock Bloomfield Drive to observe the component selection and build quality. I really appreciate the work that went into this amp. The video is for educational purposes only.

    Some corrections: plate load positions they are RN65 metal films not koa/speer. koas are in some of the cathode bypass positions (reverb) and in the series connections of the signal path. Also those are not 715 series caps throughout, but rather 6ps series, easy mistake they both look very similar. 6ps is polyester 715 is polypropylene. They likely used both but only used the 715 in strategic positions.

    I’ve a 2018 Bloomfield - one of the first 50 made & mine has pretty much exactly the same components & layout… nice to hear an expert explaining the various parts of the amp… it’s an amazing beast for sure…

    TONE GEEK, It would be nice if you listed all the resistor, capacitors, transformer brand/manufacture names on what this amplifier is using or has used in the past. For the capacitors outer foil where to you always connect the outer foil for coupling caps and bypass caps?

    I have 50 , 60-year old amps with solid core wire. I dont think there's anything to worry about... also, it's nice to see some high-end amps using alpha pots. Great price , great quality imo.
    And i know they chose arborite because dumble used it. But it's a nice reminder that there are some cheap turret board material choices!!

    What was the deep switch doing? Was it cutting the signal in and out when flipped on..? Like it was getting a bad connection?

    Really insightful. Any idea what transformers TR is using now that Classictone is closed?

    Not a fan of solid core wire, but then again Two Rock is selling a lot of amps. That said, I’m quite comfortable asserting that Aerospace grade (Tefzel) wire will undoubtedly outperform solid core wire over time.

    How do we get a two-rock sound?

      If I had to wager a guess, I’d say it probably involves buying a Two-Rock.

    Does that Bloomfield drive has a different presence setup compared to the usual ODS?

    • @guitaart
      @guitaart 2 роки тому

      iow; the cap is directly on the NFB resistor, instead of the presence pot directly to the NFB resistor.

    Is the main board a piece of floor laminate??

      As far as I can tell, yes

      Duble used similar boards, so they chose that to look 'correct'

      @soapboxearth2 (edit - replied to the wrong person) In a few pictures I’ve seen Dumble boards looked like stained plywood.. but I may be wrong..

      @soapboxearth2 5 місяців тому

      @therealjustincase that could be! I'm always interested in finding cheaper ways to build a quality amp. Fr4 is pricey AF. I've used bakelite and fiberglass board but I'm still looking for something more economical.. plywood is flammable so ive shyed away from it. So is arborite for that matter lol.ive Even used a construction sign that was made of fiberglass. I'm also thinking of getting a sheet metal break and making my own chassis..

      @@soapboxearth2 Yeah, plywood is flammable and hygroscopic so most likely it was actually some kind of textured plastic.
