The best advice for folks struggling to keep their home clean is advice from Mack that has helped me enormously. He suggests just getting up and starting one thing or just to clean off one surface and that once the body gets into action, the mind will follow and oftentimes one thing leads to another and there begins to be a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. I have started to do that and it does actually help. So many times it's just a matter of getting up and taking those first steps. You did a great job there. 👏 ❤
I have also, it helps to think I am only cleaning this shelf or area, not the whole room, or I would pull my damn hair out. 😊

I know that feeling of not realizing how many people are worried 😔. I've also had to see a tenant where I work who'd been dead for weeks... Unfortunately she was a paranoid shut-in hoarder and not seeing her for weeks at a time was normal for many years. I regret not trying harder to connect with her 😢

The reason apartments are small is twofold: land, or building plots, are very expensive. So are the building costs. The larger the apartment, the higher the rent.

Looks very nice. I noticed you rinsed some dishes but not all. If I don't rinse my dishes they have a cloudy residue on them and they might taste like dishsoap. I know you said it is not common to rinse in the Netherlands. But great job cleaning! Congrats to your brother!!
Dutchie here that does rinse :-) But it's probably not necessary if you go easy on the bubbles. I also always use ecological and fragrance-free dish soap.
Another Dutchie here. I rinse everything and I don't think it is common here not to rinse!
I was going to ask that too. I am from America and was always taught the soap needs to be well rinsed or it will make people sick. We must use way too much soap. Too much everything.
For bugs: essential oils (etherische Oliën, bij Holland and Barrett, i.e. voormalig DeTuinen vind je wel wat, maar zoek anders online) like Neem, Lavender,Niaouli or Tea Tree.
Instead of bleach you could use concentrated hydrogen peroxide (maybe in NL available at places with hairdresser’s supplies, eventueel groothhandel) But research this REALLY thoroughly since it can cause serious injury (as does bleach). Same goes for essential oils: they’re natural but very very concentrated and potent; they can cause severe reactions so always wear protection (gloves, glasses, clothes that cover everything and heavy duty shoes. Lastly keep away from heat sources)

A contract is a good idea. It can also protect you from liability in case a client comes back on you and claims you threw something out that she or he wanted to keep. You should be covered in that scenario.

Also, Citric Acid has a much lower environmental impact than cleaning vinegar, believe it or not… Might be ordered onlineonline. Also very effective as limescale cleaner.

Just wondering what a mentor is and how people are hooked up with one? Is it like a social worker?
A mentor is someone who has been through the same situation you are in, and can offer advice and guidance about how to improve your work or life. It could also be like a college student who is in their fourth year who helps a new student who has just started. Edited to add: it could be a formal arrangement (volunteers in a company who mentor junior staff) or even informally, where you happen to chat to a colleague regularly over coffee and they listen to your problems and offer advice.
