My son may have this sort of issue when given choices. For example, after asking him what he wants for breakfast he answers “pancakes”. Then I ask if he’d like water or milk to drink with his pancakes, but he will only answer “I need pancakes”. He completely focuses on pancakes and can’t seem to get the idea that the drink goes with the pancakes and he gets to choose one. Is this a discrimination error or something different?
This could be a discrimination issue. He may need to practice making choices more. Intermediate learner language is very complex. If you haven't, make sure to watch my free workshops ; marybarbera.com/workshops
Do you have any articles that research the intervention discussed in this video? Both the intervention you learned from Carbone as well as the one you talked about implementing. Thanks!
I'm not sure off the top of my head of any research articles, however, i have had great success with it! always worth a shot and take some data to see if there are changes.
My daughter jsut turned 5. When I ask her questions she literally just repeats the question I just asked. When I say no, say yes or no. She says "say yes or no". So she's literally just copying everything rather than forming sentences from her own mind. I've tried teaching her her name and still when I said what's your name? She says "what's your name" 😩😩😩
This is very common. Google mary barbera intraverbals for a video on this. It also sounds like you'd greatly benefit from my courses. Here is a free workshop here www.marybarbera.com/workshops
My son has difficulty answering question that are yes or no questions and other questions, I have to go over multiple times, and it is hard to get him to understand that a question requires an answer from him, granted he is 5, he knows how to read, shapes numbers alphabet, colors days of the week, etc, and he is learning 4 languages, partly because I spoke to him in Spanish, when he was a baby and taught him it, and my husband would speak to him in Arabic, and then he learned English, through learning videos, and then he loves the sound of the Russian language, and loves to listen to it through videos online and can now say his numbers in Russian as well, problem is he doesn't speak to much he tells you what he needs but will not answer questions unless reminded to, please help, what is the best therapy to get him to interact more in english?
how can the child be taught to differentiate similar colors or that can be confused for example the color purple from blue? show variations of blue and purple. teach you with a different color? blue is taught and purple is used as a distractor.
My child can’t understand the word “how” he can’t actually answer it properly. Is it sign of autism? He is very sensitive to a very loud sound. But when I asked a Doctor, they examined my child they don’t see any wrong or sign of autism. What should I do?
He is 4 yr old now. That’s the only thing that I really concern about. He is a very smart kid and I want to enlighten my mind so that I can’t think of there’s something wrong with him.
Some kids are more sensitive than others yes. How is pretty complex and it doesn't seem out of the ordinary to not know how questions, but , I don't know him. A full evaluation is always best if you are concerned.
These are good questions. I talk about this more in my courses. Check out my free workshops marybarbera.com/workshops . I also have this video on answering questions ua-cam.com/video/OlufIVItOTk/v-deo.html

Usually a type of sorting procedure may help.
Thank you
Thanks! Really helpful!!!

How old? How is quite a complex question and it may be typical if they don't understand it yet.
