    You should put the oil filter into the cap and push down until it clicks and has a little play. Not put the filter in the housing first. Other than that great video. I enjoy your vids.

    @Justine Buice... I just bought a certified pre-owned 535i GT. I'm gonna try this myself. I've changed oil in my Sonata and Azera. For some reason I have felt incapable of even looking under the hood of the BMW. It's setup like they don't want you to touch it. Thanks for this empowering video!

    love your videos, if you cant tell from the mass commenting I've done today.
    I had a similar jack but when I bought this car it was lowered and I couldn't get under it with it. I upgraded to a much larger, low-pro jack. It was about $200 CAD. And well worth it. It's easier to operate due to a larger pad and better leverage from a longer handle. I feel safer working around my car.
    FWIW oil changes are the one thing I don't mind paying for. It's messy and tedious. And historically I don't feel like I saved all that much money versus the effort (getting parts, disposing of oil, etc). And it only has to be done once a year based on how little distance I drive.

    I had a 3 year leased BMW and spent $1.27 on that car. Now I have a used M535i gonna do oil change this weekend. Looks like the oil/filter is gonna be $40-45 roughly. Great videos. Port Huron, MI is where I grew up. Now in Florida.

    Great Video! Like you, I always take pride in servicing my own cars, which includes brakes, oil, cv joints, tran fluid, etc. For Safety and body mechanics, purchase a better jack and a oil drain pain (most separate the plug from the oil). You should also install the filter on the base once you install the gaskets, then install it. Purchase the oil filter tool to remove and install the oil filter. Oil Filter housing screw and oil pan plug should also be torqued to required specs with a torque wrench. My 2017 M3 is still under included Ultimate Service Warranty, but I will service it once it expires.

    Great video! Make sure that when you put the oil cap on you don't over torque it because it could cause the cartridge in the center to snap off! If you have an N54 or N52 don't worry about it and stick it back on, but a few models it can not reattach. I made a video about this issue because a lot of people don't know the problems it can cause.

    quality 👌 i use mobil 1 0w-40 fully synthetic euro formula, thats the only euro formula we have in stock that is affordable here in oregon, castrol is also good, i trust them both

  • @raybutts9133
    @raybutts9133 3 роки тому +4

    you should always use a torque wrench to tighten oil filter housing cap and drain plug. also make sure whatever oil you are using matches BMW REQUIREMENT SPECS. Like LONG LIFE 1 (LLO1) make sure that you are safe and the way you have raised your car is safe.

      No he's right, petroleum isn't good and absorbs into your skin. Any issues wouldn't arise until you're much older. Brake dust is the worst though and I would wear a mask or resp while doing brakes. Now I've done thousands of changes without gloves as a mechanic but honestly it's much better to use nitritle gloves mostly to keep your hands clean for when you need to touch things you don't want to dirty. The protection is just a bonus.
