- 1 of only 400 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 and 1 of only 118 with manual transmission. The car has been parked since 1973 and was parked in a back yard from 1973 until 1987. Parked in this spot since 1987.

Wow! No dents, interior not destroyed, wheels there. This car needs to be brought back to life with a full restoration. So super rare, just unbelievable!
I’m the second owner of a Saturn Yellow Stage 1 and I’ve had it since 1978. I’ve only seen one white original real one. Yes, i still have mine and show it often. I’ve only seen 1 real one about 4 years ago at a show, and it looked as bad as this one. Mine is restored and has a luscious shine to this day.. You can’t part from this car once you own one, not even for 200,000 as I’ve seen sell at Barrett Jackson auction. The Apollo white are extremely rare! You don’t even see them, but i know some are still alive. Yes they were called Hemi Killer for a reason, i destroyed a Plymouth with a hemi with the yellow beast. Now a days, i just show it in Minnesota. Hope they restore this one!
Yea that one hell of a find .never had enough to get one of these but I've loved them ever since my Dad showed me one at a car show.he said only guys who had money and smarts had one of these

i wonder if it ever got restored. in todays economy you would be way upside down in this thing. i see one for sale on Hemmings for $140k from a private seller. you'd be money ahead to buy one restored and let the other guy take the bath.
@@markthegunplumber8376 With a car as rare as this, it isn't about the money. Personally, I couldn't afford it but if I could I would restore it. What it's worth wouldn't matter because it would never be for sale until after I died.

I can't believe all these guys saying the car isn't worth saving. Lunacy. Any competent enthusiast would foam at the mouth given the opportunity to rebuild it. The fact it's a Stage 1 warrants a full resto, let alone the low production #'s. Maybe you guys can take up knitting or cooking with the wives.

Depends on how rotten it really is. It probably could be saved, but the cost of the restoration will easily surpass the eventual sale value. Hopefully, it's #'s matching. The mileage is irrelevant because everything on that car will need to be replaced. Normally, low mileage cars go for big money, but low mileage in that condition means absolutely nothing. That car might as well have 210,000 miles on it. Everything is rotten.
That car was and still is my dream car due to the local garage mechanic having one that took me for a joy ride and layed a $10.00 bill on the dash and said if you can grab it by the time he grabbed 4th it was mine. Of course I didn't achieve the task. But what a memory I have for 54 years.

The 455 Stage-1 option was named after the first stage of the Saturn-V rockets. The colors (Saturn yellow & Apollo white) were also part of the marketing strategy. Awesome cars, very rare and EXTREMELY collectible.
These cars really did accelerate like a rocket off the line.
Remember mid '70's going to the drags with my buddy Ed he had '70 W-30 442. along with Ron and his '70 G.S. Stage 1 both in the 12's the Olds was at 12:60's. And Buick was around 12:20's wish I knew where the Buick is today the Olds I missed out on but the kid that got it destroyed the whole drivetrain. Split the rear end cluster housing and put in a Chevy rear end trany split the bell housing and snapped a rod.. I heard ... But those two cars would need to be totally rebuilt for using they were both bought and used as they were ment for factory drag cars ... But those were great days with great mussel...
So glad to live in Texas where this amount of rust takes 70 years.

This reminds me when I was a kid growing up in the 80s. I remember seeing a lot of muscle cars in garages and backyards. They were the cars of the kids that never came back from Vietnam. These cars are part of American History it's sad a lot of them are going overseas.
Yes it is sad that many foreigners have more wealth than most Americans to buy up these long forgotten treasures.

im a mopar guy but i really like those buick gsx stage one cars . like all early musclecars the factory underrated the hp numbers . they are torque monsters and in my opinion much better looking than the chevelle. its definately worth saving and a very cool find .

A friend of my brother had one Exactly like that one in high school in 1978. he drove it like a idiot and pretty much trashed it into ruin

Back In 1982 in Seattle had 1600 burning hole in my pocket. Had 3 vehicles lined up 1 was 1970 GS stage 2 hugger orange 400 400 turbo slap stick white buckets. Black vinyl top. 80,000 1400.00 dude wanted. A 65 el Camino had 69 DZ 302 turbo 350 80s Camero tilt z 28 rims lowered 1600.00 and 1978 suzuki GS 550 that was a pussy getting machine.1600. I got it for 1300. Black and gold custom paint Exhaust wheels. Hot rod. What the dumb 20 year old do.? He bought the bike. Wrecked it 6 months later.
My favorite muscle car and am not a Buick fan. Saw one of these back in the day, it's way underrated and is total beast.

If im not mistaken, the automatic version of this, was listed as the fastest 1/4 mile production car of 1970. Beating out the LS6 and the Hemi.
Car and Driver called it the 'Hemi-Killer'! What a beautiful car.
LS6 Chevelle was the fastest posting numerous bottom 13-second passes at 107-108 mph in several publications.

My first car was a 1972 Buick Skylark that my dad bought from my friend’s grandma for 300 bucks. It had a 350 2bbl but I was 16. I loved that car. This GSX needs to be painstakingly restored to preserve its history. What an amazing find
When I was younger my dad had one just like that. We live in TN. I remember cruising and us passing a Saturn yellow one. We kept driving in circles trying to catch each other. Unfortunately my dads burned to the ground in a garage fire. The 360 HP was nice,but it was all about torque with that ride. And that M22 rock crusher.
That's definitely one of my favorite G.M. muscle cars that's is very rare with all them options one of the GSX nickname was the HEMI killer I'd love to have it

A 1969 Hurst/Olds 455 H.O. just got barn found 40 miles from my house last summer. Hasn't been on the road since 82/83 and it was not a winter driver(no salt). UNBELEIVABLE. They are still out there.

Sweet find. I always thought it was a cool "nod" to Buick's muscle car past with the '87 GNX, my personal all-time favorite.
Had an opportunity to ride in a buddy's brand new 86' Buick Grand National in 1986 while working for @AC Sparkplug GM Flint Michigan Division. I will never forget that night as a 21 year old burning rubber for like a quarter mile, hearing that turbo kick in and sing and being stuck to the back of that car seat. Absolutely, a complete headrush experience. Almost wet my pants. Lol🤣 Awesome Buick!!! Then it was all over, and I went back to building more air cleaners to finish my shift. Great memory.

Man! Loved this car as a kid. A lot of people thought this was the buick laid back version of the 442 olds. I've always thought to be one of the ultimate sleeper cars.
The meanest sleeper along with the W-30 the Stage 1 was the major Tork Monster I remember as a kid back in the mid '70's Ed with his Olds 442 W-40 and Ron with his '70 Buick Stage 1 running at Cuyuga Drag Strip ...

My buddy had a 70 stage 1 GS-X 350 with a VP Turbo 400 his brother had a 70 Olds 442 W-30 with a modified 455 and a 4-speed the GS-X would spank that Oldsmobile every time from a standing start, from a rolling start it didn't matter... that GS-X 350 was a mean mutha... shut my mouth.
@@petesmith5092In your dreams, LOL The Olds will out rev, out torque and HP it in the higher rpm ranges, and the Olds is a 5500 rpm engine. Buick made that 510 ft lbs at a very low rpm, and they weren’t under rated hp wise, that was the number. Nice cars, no doubt, but not what the hype would have you believe.

My buddy bought one in 1982 in Saturn Yellow. An absolute beast, that would actually squat and hook up when rowing through gears. He still has it and is extremely mint. A wonderful and rare car. Someone needs to bring this one back to life! Please!
@Speedy rapacki HP in eighties cars was non existent! If you didn't have a sixties or early seventies car, you were in a rowboat. A GSX was an awesome torque monster of a car. Engine was raw, and car looked the part. Is it my Z06 or Boss 302 of today? Nope. But I'd still love one. Speedy. We're you a teen in the early eighties? If so you should understand. In the description it says it's been off the road since 73 but only inside a shed since 87. Which probably means the car sat outside in a yard from 73-87.

It was parked outside from 1973 through 1987. Then it was put indoors in 1987.

@@chuckforndron3680 I had a 72 Centurion Convertible w/445 STAGE1 in it. It had 168K on the clock and it didn't burn oil or knock.It was stolen out of my garage when I went on vacation in 90. Never found it. Still have the title, keys and fender tag. Hell, my 72 LeSabre w/350 ST1 GS had over 300K on the original build. I bought that off my aunt in 82 and the rear end locked up doing 60 on the highway bending the rear frame rails and shattering the rear window.
The car sat outside from 1973 to 1987. It was driven from 70 to 73. Thats 3 winters of super corrosive salt exposure..on cars that had nearly NO rust protection....and then it was parked....outside...in an area where it rains almost DAILY, unless its snowing. All that rain means lots of trees and green plants...lots of leaves...and lots of little critters that LOVE making homes in cars. Did I mention that the temperature tends to be bipolar in nature? It could be midsummer and 85-95 degrees and BAM!! A big hailstorm goes through...and temperature drops 30 degrees in 5 minutes. Same thing in winter. It could be 5 degrees one day and it goes to 50 degrees overnight. That tends to form condensation inside quarter panels and fender bottoms. The weather here is about as hostile to cars as it gets....and then you throw in the road salt. Wait....there's MORE!!!
Patrick mentions he is close to the Delaware River. That river has notably flooded several times.....this car possibly could have been a victim of a flood (could be why it was moved in 1987).
Easily believable that the car could still be low mileage and be that rough. The fact that its this complete means someone kept after it a bit. Park a car in the woods around here for 20 years and you likely wont even be able to tell what kind of car it was.....
Buicks are the best. People often forget the cool cars they have built over the years.

Great find. A lot of my teenage years were spent driving a White, 68 Buick GS 400 with a black vinyl top, black interior, automatic Super Turbo 400 with the optional 8 track tape player tucked under the dash. This car brings back a log of great memories. The one I drove would chirp the tires on the 1st to 2nd ship and did well as a 1/4 mile street car.
Are you sure it wasn’t pulled out of the Delaware in 1987??? & Been airing out ever since. Man somebody needs to save this rare beast ASAP.

I had one for 27 years, from 1980 to 2007, car #125, Stage 1 Saturn Yellow, automatic, no air. My mom was in a nursing home and had to sell it. Don't believe the mileage, the bezel around the tachometer face is the dead giveaway, if you look close, the bottom part of the bezel has rotted away, and that is from years of snow sitting on it. The floor console is as rare as dinosaur toenails.

Probably sat outside for an extended period before moving into that building. Amazes me how many muscle cars got parked after a few years. Some owners went off to 'Nam and some didn't come back. Some got tired of blowing engines. Some just parked them because they got married and needed a 'practical' family car. My buddy was on his 3rd engine in his 70 charger by 1975. I never blew the engine in my GS. He lunged a 440 racing me one night after insisting on multiple rematches, (he kept losing) rod right thru the block
Another great find Patrick. I don't remember any Buick muscle cars with a 4 speed, all had the turbo 400. Rare car for sure. Will take a lot of man hours to restore it but I hope it happens and it gets done right. Thanks for your video's.
Plenty of Buick muscle cars had 4-speeds, starting at least with the 1965 Skylark and GS, with a 300 engine as well as with the 401.
i'm sure there was Paul just not many among my circle of friends. I do remember one of my buddy's mom and dad had a 63 buick special convertible that had a V6 with a 4 speed. My parents had the same model but it was a V8 with an automatic. I think that engine was all aluminium. A couple other buicks that impressed me that I was around was a 69 buick wildcat it was fast for it's size. Another was a 70 grand sport with a 455 with some sort of ram air set up and I think it had plastic inner fenders. It looked like luxury until you nailed it and then it was all muscle. They were both automatics. I remember everyone that had the muncie shifters always wished they had a hurst. GM must have used both. Too long ago to remember the details. I always liked buicks, not high revers but a lot of torque.
The manual trans is very very rare. Wouldnt surprise me if there were actually less than 10 built in white, gsx stage 1, and manual trans.
By 1972, you could get a GSX in any skylark color, and even then, I believe they made THREE! 1972 GSX Stage 1 cars, with manual transmission. three! One of those 3 is a Black 1972 GSX stage one with a 4 speed, and had every option Buick listed....down to the rear window defroster. It had the highest MSRP known for any skylark trim level (1972 was the year that the GSX became a skylark option and not a separate Buick model.)

My neighbor has a 1970 Buick GS stage 1 car that has been sitting for at least 15 years. He’s had the car since high school. He’s also got a 1975 corvette that’s been sitting for 19 years in his garage.

What the hell happened to it? It couldn't have naturally turn to a bucket of shit like that, it's missing the oil cap on their valve cover to trim around the back window. 18000 miles and has been off the street since 1973 which means it was only on the road for 3 years! I don't get it. I would expect it to need cleaned up, this car needs a complete frame-off restoration

Up until the early 80's. American cars did not have a 6 digit odometer. So I would say it is 18k miles.
Dustin Nocks right, they rolled back to 0 after 99,999 miles, that car has at least 118,000 miles on it.
greg sines . depending on where it was parked and what the environment was like. I would have to agree with you. However, the interior & how UNmolested the engine compartment is. I may lean a lol more to the latter. I've seen 60 yr old cars with 10k on them, that looked like they should have had 500k. The car was moved to that out building in '87. Probably because someone had the forethought and knew the rarity, and wanted to save it. I knew of an old fisher body employee(neighbor in 70-80's). He had 70 olds 442. Only drove it 2x week to get his liquor. Stayed parked outside for 30+yrs on gravel. That 11k mile car was completely rotten.

That is because that particular grille is a 1970 only, they were changed in 71 and 72.
Plus the engines were detuned in 71 and 72, that is why the 70 is the holy grail.

I hear ya. Many of these cars back in the early 80's could have been picked up for a couple thousand dollars. It was hard for a young working man to save $2000.00 dollars in the day at $3.35 an hour wage. Remember also the country was going through an economy downturn in 1981-82 with high inflation. Tough times for alot of folks.
It's cool, she is ruff, hopefully someone with money is restoring this car by now. I bought a 71 skylark from my uncle in 86 in connecticut with 112000 on it and it looked in the same condition as this, light shining through the trunk and everything. Drove it one summer and was to far gone for me at the time so I sold. I'd definitely say that is 118000. It didn't have the cred this does but it was fun. It was a good summer

My buddy Dave had a 1970 Electra 225 convertible light metallic brown with a tan cover and interior in the 80's..the car was exquisite..it had the 455 with 390 hp and 510 fpt..we stomped so many pony cars with it..it was always the same response at the next light.."what do you have under the hood of that thing?"

Wow! Amazing. You had me drooling and going back into my younger years when I had a 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1. Mine was the Saturn yellow with auto trans. To this day I miss it and regret ever getting rid of it in 75. It was killer on the streets. And a real chic magnet, LOL. Only found one guy that could be me on the street and he had a 68 Camaro with a 396 and a blower on it. Oh how I miss that Buick. Thanks for sharing this. I sure would be nice to someone get that Buick and restore it!

More than what the car is worth most likely, what amazes me is shit for brains like this car's owner just let's it sit and rot away. the fool doesn't even keep the windows rolled up. The car been exposed to some nasty ass winters, rodents, the way it's rusting it looks as if the garage has some serious leaks in the roof. He might as well park it next to the house like the joe-Bob Koots in the South do.
@@oveidasinclair982 They're not far from the Delaware river and the car sat OUTSIDE for 14 years in the east cost acid rain and sun. Now it sits in a damp shed with everything open. Why in Gods name the guy doesn't sell it and get something out of it is beyond my comprehension, seen it many times. (Too bad it wasn't always in a shed, the paint would be in 100X better shape, lots less rust too.)

People keep saying save the car! It's saved!! Looks like it was parked outside since 73 until this guy got it!! Amazing car!! I had a 71 Buick Electra with same engine in it basically, what a beast!!, that car was the tire burner!! 375 hp !! Yet when idiots was a kitten, open 4 barrels, was a lion!!
By reading this comments I see lots of non - car people , youngsters , dreamers and complainers .

Thank you Patrick for sharing this with us. I have been a 1970-1972 Buick GS Stage1 & GS455 owner and collector since I bought my first one, a 1972 Stage1 for $700.00 in 1975 if you can believe that. Sadly I sold it to my best buddy, since he found it originally at a Buick dealer where he new the Service Manager and I bought it immediately. In 1970, my neighbor around the corner had a sherwood green 1970 GS455 that he bought new and was going to sell to me, but just couldn't bare to part with it and still has it to this day. The GSX cars were so rare back in the day, that you wouldn't see more than one a year if you were lucky. Extremely rare. Thanks again for finding this rare bird and for sharing it with us fellow Buick GS lovers.

@@DStabs720 no comparison the '70 stage 1 hands down my buddy had a reagle T-type intercooled G.N. and '70 W-30. 442. And the Olds was twice the car but the '70 stage 1 is quicker than the Olds ..but remember turbocharger break down he replaced his twice lucky his buddy worked where they rebuilt them.. saving him a few bucks ..

It's hard to believe a car with only 18k miles that has been stored indoors since 73 would be that rusty. There must be more to this story.
The description says it was parked outside from 73 to 87, then put in the garage in 87. It does seem odd that it has that much rust even if it was driven on salt covered roads for 3 winters. My father had a 69 Ford LTD that went to the junkyard in 1974 completely rusted out with only 43k miles. Road salt killed a lot of great cars back then.

My Dad's '73 Satellite rusted out by 1977 the rusting doesn't sound unreasonable for the period, Dad had to replace front fenders and lots of body work/paint to fix it up in '77. Toronto Canada.
NJ and Pennsylvania ate cars alive. I hears some old timers saying these era cars needed quarter panels within 5 years. Really rust prone cars like Datsuns sometimes didnt even make it till the payments were finished before collapsing.

Even now, cars around here (particularly Chevy) need brake lines in around 10 years.
I rescued a 67 skylark little old lady car with a 421 2 barrel and a power glide. Rebuilt the carb dropped and drained the tank. Started right up after 10 years of sitting. Almost crashed driving it home when I discovered only the front passenger drum brake was working paid $200 for the car but the experience was forever priceless

My first car was my grandparents 69 Skylark with drum brakes which were not power brakes and would not stop the car effectively.

greg sines ok so it has over a million. Like that makes sense. Just cause a low mileage car looks like shit doesn't mean inside the engine is shut. Leave anything sitting for 30 years and it will rust and rot.

Camryn Robertson you didn't get my point buddy. Milage means nothing when the car has not been taken care of. The milage means nothing anyway. If it has 299k and you fully restore it but try to sell it with the 299k odometer most people wouldn't buy it cause they assume milage is accurate. I bought a 55k milage car that actually was 135k but the odometer was broken on the car for a while before I bought it. So I assumed and got screwed.

Bought a brand new buick GS 455 in 1970....best5 car ever ever.
