@@GamingHarryYT Oh yeah, loudermilch was terrifying. What scared me most was the heretics and their animal like behavior. I guess living in the mines for that long will turn you into that. Anyways, good work on this video!

@@bluewolf7111 I would agree with your points about the plot and how outlast 2 provides ZERO time for hope. I guess that’s what made it scarier to me, being hopeless and always on edge. Outlast 1 was definitely the better game, but 2 scared me more.
I choose outlast1 because it had something that always made me think about government and why cia and these things do this and how secret they were, that elevator and that long time it got to get the first floor, its in my heart but outlast2 was way scarier it was the first time i had to stop the game for jump scares and these thing for the first time...
Not having a weapon on you makes it more fun knowing you are the vulnerable one. Thus making the game seem more scary and enjoyable as it would be to easy if you could actually fight the enemies and progress without constant fear of being seen by the enemies.
I'm glad someone finally picked back up on this game and really tied things together well! I have something I found while playing the game that I wanted to mention. As far as I can tell no one has really talked about this and maybe you could shed some light on it. You mentioned the walrider's existence in Temple Gate and the ants. Here is the possible easter egg: Just before Blake enters the Scalled area, he attempts to cross a bridge and for some reason that is never explained a cloud of locust appears and pushes him off. This could be a hallucination but right after the event, another person claims to see the locust and others through out the village talk about it later. I have always wondered after seeing the comics if this cloud of Locust may in fact be the walrider? Maybe they aren't even Locust, Ants can grow wings in some cases and this could be a joined swarm of them. I wanted to throw this out there. It's eating away at me that nobody even talks about this moment like it's important. (A fucking swarm of bugs randomly lifts a dude and shoves him off a bridge.) Let me know if you have any idea about this or corrections. Thanks
Interesting thought! Well, Arizona has lots of locusts (being that it's dry and hot), so it could be that the Locust swarm was just Blake's bad luck. I think it's more that Blake is walking across a narrow beam at that point, and loses balance rather than being thrown off the bridge. That being said, the Locust seemed pretty aggressive, so you may be right in saying that the locust could be being controlled by the Walrider.
@@GamingHarryYT What made me think it might be something else is how Blake explained it. "They were trying to lift me" Could be crazy talk but still food for thought.
@@GamingHarryYT The locusts flash and glow like they're electric, and tbh that's the most explicit 'swarm' imagery we get in the game so I would definitely see that as a Walrider cameo. My question is whether it's Miles, and what his intent was - did he deliberately knock Blake down, or did he try to help but lost control?
In my mind, the locusts were also a hallucination since one of the gospel of Knoth notes mentions them as a sign of the antichrist or the end of the world (I cant remember which)
You know, all this horrible stuff might sound like fiction, but it has happened somewhere at some point in history. If a human could imagine the most detestable thing, a human could carry such a thing out. Mankind needs fixing, and not the Outlast kind! Lol
I didn't manage to finish the 2nd game cause it's too much for me. So this video really helped a lot with understanding the story! Thank you! I hope you'll continue on doing this kind of series in the future
Just finished it today, had to play without my headphones due to the intense and scary sounds lol 😂 but I do have to say that even after finishing the game for the first time I didn’t understand the story at all and it’s crazy how huge the lore is and the detail put into it by the devs
I always felt like The priest in Blake’s flashback previously did some Awful things to Jessica and well I had an gut feeling that he molested her once and I think he killed her to keep her quiet if she were to sntich on him
What I love about Outlast is that you're not really supposed to understand anything gameplay-wise only. Red Barrels wants us to think deep and search for answers which is why I absolutely love the outlast games!
its been 3 days since I finished outlast 2 and I'm still thinking about it and looking for answers. One thing that I still don't understand, is why and how the Walrider possessed... Ants?!
I started this game in the middle of 2020, made it to Josiah on the wheel and then forgot I owned it. Just finished tonight and had to hear a breakdown of the story. I prefer games with more obscure stories like this. It doesn’t feel like the developers are holding your hand and you have to figure out why things are happening on your own.
Outlast 1 and Whistleblower have great stories. They've unnecessarily overcomplicated it with Outlast 2 in my opinion. Next Outlast will probably connect the whole thing to aliens or something.
@@KawaiiFemBoi What a weird, gatekeepy attitude for something that literally requires you to read outside sources from the game to understand whats going on.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if the next game tackles some kind of "manufactured rapture/alien invasion" - key word being manufactured. I found the religious elements in OL1 to be hackneyed, but it clicked in the second game: the series is about how trauma and technology are weaponized to control minds, and it is no accident that religion itself is treated like a mind control technique.
@@hydrophilicchristopher9874Exactly, nothing says bad writing like having to read cryptic notes written in religious mumbo-jumbo in order to get a clue to what is even going on. Outlast 1 and Whistleblower were much better games anyway
Such a well made video. Love the detailing from you and also the fact that you included the plot, not leaving out anything important. Feels like scientific work to me😂
Glad you took the time to explain the comic book too. I planned to read it years ago cuz i knew it explained more of the story, but never got around to it, then forgot it existed.
Never really been scared of ANY game , I just started playing this round 3:00 in the morning. The fact that we can't even defend ourselves is what scares me we can only RUN AND HIDE!.
Great job, I remember looking for an in-depth explanation on everything years ago but this one truly clears things up. Considering what can be seen in the trailer for Outlast 3 and them saying they need to "dig in his head" it doesn't sound too unlikely that Blake makes a return in Outlast 3. Maybe as the protagonist, maybe as an enemy if not the "final boss".
Finally someone who explained my favorite 2 horror games thanks a lot man cuz I've been waiting for someone to do an explained video of outlast and outlast 2 forever instant subscription
I am still wondering why Blake has those flashbacks to Jessica when nothing in the current situation that he was in points back to that period. I felt that it was just a way to make the gameplay varied and longer. It kinda took the flow of the main story away.
im pretty sure its the guilt of jessicas death. it was mentioned at the start he hadnt been sleeping properly because of it so it was going on for quite some time. it was there to provide a backstory. every time the bright light occurred from the murkoff tower it drove him to these hallucinations of jessica and what happened in the school that nobody knew about but him. combined with the fact he could’ve potentially saved her, they just happened while his mind was at its weakest
Yeah, also, Blake probably had negative viewpoints around religion as he was raised Catholic and saw how evil Loutermilch was. The thought of religion probably freaked him out and scarred him after Jessica died. Being thrust into that environment with crazy religious nut jobs like Knoth's cult members likely amplified his PTSD. So I think that us seeing what Blake endured as a kid at school is relevant to the story.
@@GamingHarryYT thanks guys. these are actually reasonable assumptions that I can apply. I guess it's not all fluff to make the game longer. I did enjoy the first one better though cause I seem to just run by all the enemies in this one in my first playthrough :p
I remembered playing this game many years ago and being enthralled by the graphics and atmosphere. And this was before everything was about fancy visual tech like Ray tracing, upscaling, blah blah. It ran great, looked great, played great, and while the story was a bit hit and miss for me, the experience definitely was a winner, and I don't generally like games where all I can do is run and hide, so it's a testament to what this game was able to offer me in terms of entertainment.
Thanks for posting this! The story of Outlast 2 can be confusing as hell if you're not paying attention to the notes and such around you [including Val's journals. @@GamingHarryYT Well that Will be Outlast Trials, the next outlast game. But maybe Outlast 3, which they wanna release after could continue the story of Waylon Park, Simon Peacock, Paul Marion and Walrider (Miles Upshur). Also Outlast Trials might take place in Mount Massive Asylum during the MKULTRA program, on which Murkoff and CIA worked together.
There honestly isn’t really much left to save from Blake at this point when you think about it sadly. He’s gone completely catatonic and has essentially become lost in the past in his mind with “Jessica” after his wife dies from fake child birth.
Just finished the game last night. I actually thought everything was of paranormal event - especially of Revelations. The story perfectly fits the Antichrist lore especially the red star... But wow, this explanation is A WAY BETTER STORY from what I interpreted. Subscribing to you mate!
Been watching your videos for some time and just assumed you had 500k+ subs from the quality of your content. Keep going man, you've got talent and work ethic. You're absolutely gonna make it!
Outlast 2 got a little too obsessed with the gore, like half way through you're not interested in the story anymore and more on if you'll be able to eat your dinner that night.
15:10 this single piece of paper is the bane of this games existence. I’m one had it helps explain what’s going on in the story, on the other, it’s literally almost just this single piece of paper detailing what’s happening in the story. And it’s not like it’s obvious it’s literally in the middle of nowhere in the game. in fact, people will be even more confused with the aftermath comic. We’re out of no where is the Murkoff corporation just shows up. And also the fact that you have to read specific documents from the first game to get it.
Amazing video once again! I'd be interested in a video specifically focusing on the school hallucinations and how Jessica's death was covered up as a suicide. That and how Knoth's cult directly parallels with the Catholic church.
Blake is most likely gonna die on his own either by starving, dehydration, or the illness he mostly got from the smol man Edit: the ending is just a hallucination of blake, he slowly goes insane by the murkoff lights and such
Blake can't catch a break...witnessed his friend assaulted and killed, tormented by strange eldritch cultists, lost his wife, child(?), and mind to scientific and/or demonic delusions, and is now as good as dead while being planned to be used as an unwilling test subject for Murkoff. Probably got it the worst out of the three Outlast protagonists.
People are saying this story is complicated and confusing... it really isn't. It's just very poorly executed o you have to go to the ends of the earth to figure out what is going on. If the game had a more cohesive narritive all of this could have easily made sense. While ambigous storytelling can be good if the player has no fucking clue whats going on and in order to figure it out they have to buy a comic thats not good storytelling. However, great video, you pieced it all together.
By the time I made this comment, I already finished outlast 2 and before that , outlast 1 ! The story in outlast 2 is kind of mess up and hard to understand compared to first one, where I can play through the game but still be able to catch a basic story ! But left alone story , this game has some iconic feeling that I can't find in other horror games! There's is 2 scene , 1 is when father ( can't remember his name) In outlast 1 burn him self then all creepy mudders standing around you stop chasing you and let you go in peace , they just stand there and look at you , 2 is when knoth in outlast 2 kill him self then you starting to walk away to the sun rise ! Both scene give me weird feeling of peaceful! Like.......... All these creature chasing you, try to murder you through the whole game , now they suddenly stop after you , or being dead around you ! It's look like: " you know what , we're tired of followed you , there's the door, please just get lost! We don't care about you anymore ! " . It's strange right?
ive watched all of these videos like 10 times, theyre awesome. i love the way you put the entirety of the story together so easily and i love your accent too hehe
I started playing outlast 2 and was confused by all these strange cultist ! I had never played the first game , so I was def intrigued into finding out more about this storyline ! Hence why I looked up a story video ! This video is explaining everything I was confused and curious about ! Wow what a disturbing story of cultist ! It even sounds very similar to Jonesboro with the Mass poisoning ! All that was needed was some purple kool - aid ! Well great job on a very detailed video ! 🙌
Why I like this one more than outlast 1 is the simple fact that outlast 2 focuses more psychological horror rather than gore horror which is what outlast 1 focused on, they went in a different genre of horror and it worked really well because psychological horror I feel causes more damage in the longrun.
I’d say 2 was way more terrifying. There was that one jump-scare in the school hallway that has kept me from replaying the game again. Maybe I should do another play through though cuz it’s been years. All that said, Outlast 1 is still my favorite and has infinitely better storytelling. I’ve replayed that game so many times.
Was really hoping to hear ANYTHING about the walrider because ive always wondered what happened to it after the first game. It coming back as a bunch of ants to destroy a tower so briefly was... not what i was expecting...
Does every women experience phantom pregnancy after being exposed to the beam? If so why were other women did the other woman in the town not have these symptoms like the lady that was tourchored in the church. If not what made Lynn special to get these symptoms?
It occasionally caused phantom pregnancies, not all the time. It's more of a mind control device, with odd side effects, the pregnancies being one of them.
@@GamingHarryYT hi, I love your analysis. But, I have a theory about this game that I would like to share, as it’s a little long for a comment here on UA-cam, lol. I personally think none of the kids that we saw killed in this game were real.

Basically. Main character has bad memories. The frequency messes with his brain to create hallucinations. One of his biggest regrets was not kissing Jessica and cause he was too nervous or scared she was left sigh the creep who killed her. Now in the real world everyone is experiencing delusions and Blake just sat there ready to die and revert back into his mind not caring about the world anymore
Outlast 2 feels so all over the place or so that's how I felt when I played it, the entire time some things felt repetitive, but I grasped what was happening, the ending was really sad and I felt bad for each characters. (Blake, Jessica! Lynn) Lynn and Blake didn't deserve that ending but well, despite everything, I still crave for more outlast games, we're always left on a cliff hanger.
12:30 I thought that "Penissilon" was a reference to Viagara, or something like that. If you read the rest of the letter, the publican boy made a joke when the cultist told him they were study aids, and said you would only need those pills if you were studying "gash", a joke the cultist apparently didn't get. So, it wasn't actually Penicillin. And It would make sense that an old, out of shape man like Knoth would need d*ck pills if he was trying to knock up all the females in his cult.

I choose outlast1 because it had something that always made me think about government and why cia and these things do this and how secret they were, that elevator and that long time it got to get the first floor, its in my heart but outlast2 was way scarier it was the first time i had to stop the game for jump scares and these thing for the first time...
This is the most complete explanation i have ever seen to this series. Good work man and i believe that your channel will be becoming famous soon
Hope so!
This game DEFINITELY needed an explaination; beyond confusing.
Yes thank you for agreeing.
I love how Blake went from my least favorite outlast main character to my favorite.
I felt sorry for the guy. Being forced to relive childhood trauma through a bunch of cultist nutcases
This game would be finish earlier if you have a chance to pick machete with you entire time
game would have finihsed earlier if you didnt have to reroute 50 times to get to the mines!
Not having a weapon on you makes it more fun knowing you are the vulnerable one. Thus making the game seem more scary and enjoyable as it would be to easy if you could actually fight the enemies and progress without constant fear of being seen by the enemies.
@@messy_boy0656 i know it just pretty unrealistic to can't have a weapon in that situation
@@zul6227 a cameramen should not be able to use weapon, i think that's realistic one. just telling dont mind me
@@kknkolaboratif1555 no honey the more unrealistic the game is when you thought there's a cameraman in first person game follow you entire time
I'm glad someone finally picked back up on this game and really tied things together well!
In my mind, the locusts were also a hallucination since one of the gospel of Knoth notes mentions them as a sign of the antichrist or the end of the world (I cant remember which)
I have just finished Outlast 1, Whistleblower, and Outlast 2! I was so confused about the story, this video helped a lot.
You know, all this horrible stuff might sound like fiction, but it has happened somewhere at some point in history. If a human could imagine the most detestable thing, a human could carry such a thing out. Mankind needs fixing, and not the Outlast kind! Lol

Haha yeah it is pretty intense at times!

Well yes … that’s kinda the plot

You made the story so easy to understand! Thank you so much! I was left really confused after finishing the game 😂 this cleared everything right up.
Glad it helped! Outlast 2 can be confusing!
What I love about Outlast is that you're not really supposed to understand anything gameplay-wise only.
Red Barrels wants us to think deep and search for answers which is why I absolutely love the outlast games!
its been 3 days since I finished outlast 2 and I'm still thinking about it and looking for answers.

The person/group who made this game is a genius. This is never a horror game for me, I see this as a logical masterpiece of art
Same! I love it!
The Outlast Trials is set in the cold war so I doubt Blake will be in it. Sad how their stories ended there.
The outlast 2 plot drew some inspiration from the Jonestown massacre, there are a lot of similarities even with the names of the cults.
Absolutely. As well as the Heaven’s Gate mass suicide.
I was waiting for this to come out. Love the content, quite high quality. Keep it up!
Glad you enjoyed!
I'm too scared to play the game 🤣 and kinda confused so I'll have to watch it again but it sounds interesting 👌🏾
Haha yeah it's pretty scary! But give it a go, it's excellent!
So was I until i played u get into it
Its fun to play trust me you need play it
There's a mode for the game for enemies not to attack you, so you can just explore the story instead if you want.
Its fairly Scary But most mentally draining
man poor Jessica, Blake didn't even gave her one smooch before she's gone.
Thank you! I honestly couldn't bring it all together on my own. Makes perfect sense now. Excellent series so far, probably the most disturbing too
Outlast 1 and Whistleblower have great stories.
@@KawaiiFemBoi Very fucking important gaps. Literally how are you gatekeeping a single player story game. That's so fucking cringe.
@@KawaiiFemBoi that’s a valid excuse. Nothing says “shit story” then having to read outside material
@@hydrophilicchristopher9874Exactly, nothing says bad writing like having to read cryptic notes written in religious mumbo-jumbo in order to get a clue to what is even going on. Outlast 1 and Whistleblower were much better games anyway
It was amazing how you had to reverse the audio from the School recordings to hear the hidden messages! I loved that concept!
That’s what makes it so brilliant! Pure fear
Like Dr.Wernicke said:,,Nothing is supernatural"
Great job, I remember looking for an in-depth explanation on everything years ago but this one truly clears things up.
Considering what can be seen in the trailer for Outlast 3 and them saying they need to "dig in his head" it doesn't sound too unlikely that Blake makes a return in Outlast 3. Maybe as the protagonist, maybe as an enemy if not the "final boss".
The outlast trials is not outlast 3 it's a prequel set in the cold war
@@GamingHarryYT i never thought about that but that makes perfect sense too!
@@GamingHarryYT thanks guys. these are actually reasonable assumptions that I can apply. I guess it's not all fluff to make the game longer. I did enjoy the first one better though cause I seem to just run by all the enemies in this one in my first playthrough :p
The school was honestly the best part of this game IMO
I remembered playing this game many years ago and being enthralled by the graphics and atmosphere. And this was before everything was about fancy visual tech like Ray tracing, upscaling, blah blah. It ran great, looked great, played great, and while the story was a bit hit and miss for me, the experience definitely was a winner, and I don't generally like games where all I can do is run and hide, so it's a testament to what this game was able to offer me in terms of entertainment.

That would be good. It takes place during the Cold War, which ended in 1991, so it could possibly feature. Who knows!
@@GamingHarryYT Well that Will be Outlast Trials, the next outlast game. But maybe Outlast 3, which they wanna release after could continue the story of Waylon Park, Simon Peacock, Paul Marion and Walrider (Miles Upshur).

Outlast 2 got a little too obsessed with the gore, like half way through you're not interested in the story anymore and more on if you'll be able to eat your dinner that night.
Oh my God how do you not have more subscribers? This video is awesome!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed!
The music at 0:40 and at 5:28 the beginning of the video is called "Where are the Stars" and "Residuum" by Silver Maple, respectively.
That and how Knoth's cult directly parallels with the Catholic church.
this video is perfect finally a perfect review that explains everything perfect
"Although not as terrifying"
Me: But the demon guy???
Sounds like the developers heavily sampled the Jonestown massacre...
Blake is most likely gonna die on his own either by starving, dehydration, or the illness he mostly got from the smol man
Edit: the ending is just a hallucination of blake, he slowly goes insane by the murkoff lights and such

Another excellent piece of work, thank you for clearing some issues up for me after playing it.
You're welcome!
Blake can't catch a break...witnessed his friend assaulted and killed, tormented by strange eldritch cultists, lost his wife, child(?), and mind to scientific and/or demonic delusions, and is now as good as dead while being planned to be used as an unwilling test subject for Murkoff. Probably got it the worst out of the three Outlast protagonists.
that explanation was incredibly thorough, thanks.

Why I like this one more than outlast 1 is the simple fact that outlast 2 focuses more psychological horror rather than gore horror which is what outlast 1 focused on, they went in a different genre of horror and it worked really well because psychological horror I feel causes more damage in the longrun.
Just finished the game last night and i had a lot of questions and this video helped.....the game was great just to many holes in the story.
Glad I could help!

Crazy to think that out of the three kids, Jessica was the lucky one…
I love how you explain it very well
If there is one thing outlast 1 and 2 have taught me - don’t be a journalist.
Basically. Main character has bad memories. The frequency messes with his brain to create hallucinations.
One of his biggest regrets was not kissing Jessica and cause he was too nervous or scared she was left sigh the creep who killed her.
Now in the real world everyone is experiencing delusions and Blake just sat there ready to die and revert back into his mind not caring about the world anymore
you should do more of these stuff bro. Your production value is a top notch
Outlast 2 feels so all over the place or so that's how I felt when I played it, the entire time some things felt repetitive, but I grasped what was happening, the ending was really sad and I felt bad for each characters. (Blake, Jessica! Lynn)
Lynn and Blake didn't deserve that ending but well, despite everything, I still crave for more outlast games, we're always left on a cliff hanger.
