I feel like Mike being passively ok with a lot of plot developments and inconsistencies in the film is its attempt to continue with the dreamlike feeling of the first film.
The Robocop and "Ashes" riffs were top notch. When I was younger and the top pc-based games were stuff like Space Quest, I thought this would be an excellent candidate for adaptation. As it is, this movie is pure fun and I eagerly await the memoirs from the creators of Supernatural where they admit it gave them the impetus for the continuing Adventures of Sam and Dean and a groovy car.
The Tallman's temple wound in the last scene seems to roughly match Alchemy's, implying he's been getting up to his lady-impersonating tricks this whole film as well.
"buckle up, because it only gets weirder from here" Now there's an understatement! The Phantasm series redefines "weird" from the ground up. You don't know weird until you've experienced the spiraling descent into lore insanity that is the Phantasm sequels
I've seen this movie several times and never caught that Sam Raimi joke. Thanks for giving me something else to dig about an already very dig-able flick!
I remember watching Phantasm marathons on the Sci-Fi channel in the 90s..... I've seen and love all of these....things that could possibly be described as a movie franchise. Damn I'm old. Pretty sure they'd do the marathons during summer break so the evidence is piling up! =) Another insane forgotten gem from the "beforetimes" is "Cemetery Man."
I remember watching this series and having no FUCKING clue what was going on so I'm very thankful you're making videos about them so I can finally understand what I saw
Something neat: Father Meyers is played by Kenneth Tigar. He has a Ph.D in German literature from Harvard. Remember that old guy in Avengers who defiantly tells Loki "there are always men like you"? Well that guy is used to dealing with tall aliens mucking up the place :)
So excited to see your breakdown of Phantasm III. I'm pretty sure as a kid that was the one I caught on Sci-Fi channel by chance and I recall it freaking me out quite a bit.
You know when you have a dream that's supet vivid, and you really feel it, and it kind of sticks with you the next day? Like you have a dream that your partner sleeps with someone else, and you're sort of irrationally angry at them the next morning, even though you KNOW nothing actually happened? That kind of feels like the attitude toward continuity in these movies.
When you’re done with the phantasm franchise you should do a video about horror themed music like Misfits, Gravediggaz, Harley Poe, and Kool Keith (and his various personas)
Between this series and Wishmaster it's like you're plugged into the horror movies I saw on TV as a child/adolescent that imprinted themselves on my brain. Or we're of similar age and we just had the same weird movies imprinted on our brain. Either way I'm enjoying this series enormously! 2020 is just gonna have a bad summer (and bad fall, spring, etc, basically it's going to suck until the pandemic passes) so little things like this go a long way to making me happy through it.
As many times as I've seen this movie I can't believe I never noticed Alex Murphy's grave. And i'm like super old. Plus the sam Reimi/ ashes thing? you have a good eye sir
Seriously, I found out about D&D and had to cobble reports and adventures together from no money in 79'. I didn't stop obsessing until I got my own D&D books in 81'. NO CHILL. I missed the Phantasm franchise accordingly. Real shame, I like "Warlock" and this seems pretty similar.
Is there a place to suggest movies for you to talk about next? Because I'm not a big horror fan but I'm loving this channel anyway and anyway I would love to watch your thoughts on Attack the Block because I think it would be right up your alley and no one talks about that movie enough. As a non-horror fan I love that movie it's actually maybe my favorite movie? Maybe I'm a horror fan actually I just didn't know it until now? Sorry for rambling. Love your videos thanks for all your amazing work!
Alchemy was the Tall Man the whole time. You can see the same wound on the side of his head where she pulled out her hair. Reggie.. he.. Tall Man likes his bald head I guess! 😂
@4:32 I was wondering why there was a small, circular image of the Tall Man at the bottom of the screen, then I realized why and said "OMG... I'm such a boob"
Reggie's house didn't blow up the first time around. at least, not in the world in which Michael LeGros lives in. Reggie says as much. Much like the majority of the first film, different versions of reality which the final movie more clearly makes text and all.
Tall Man Shenanigans. Tallmananigans.
*Key and Peele have entered the chat*
Oh man. Tallmananigans again!?!
Scaredy Matt's enthusiasm for these movies is so infectious that even though I don't love horror I keep watching all of these videos.
Sometimes we must taste the mustard that lives inside us all.
kinky
Reggie = Bruce Campbell of Phantasm. After Tallman, he's the most important character.
I feel like Mike being passively ok with a lot of plot developments and inconsistencies in the film is its attempt to continue with the dreamlike feeling of the first film.
Everyday life: "Ugh, I can't stand even the sight of guns."
Watching Phantasm II: "Four-barreled shotgun? Awesome!"
I'm not saying there's definitely gonna be another civil war, but now might be the time to look at joining your local Socialist NRA.
The problem with guns isn't guns, the problem is gun culture and the kind of people that usually have the guns.
Guns are for videogames, dammit. That four-barreled shotgun belongs back in the DOOM wad it came from.
@@poposterous236 That crazy pakeha dude in the movie _Utu_ was rockin' the four-barreled shotgun _before_ it was cool.
Dude: 100%.
Honestly by the time you got to the end I was like "wonder if Alchemy is just a weird zombie who's on their side for some reason"
Ok Matt do be looking good even if he got a bit of a sunburn

i laughed way too hard at Murphy's grave.
I think ur probably right about supernatural inspiration from phantasm.
They could have gone with "You'll be paralyzed with SPHERE!" for the tagline...
There's still time for that in the next Phantasm movie.
Way to creative
Yeah but that one doesn't have the word "ball" in it though.
@@AceAttorny ill give you some balls
Ahhh gabadolahh

Lol/sadness.
Congratulations for discovering legitimist monarchism for yourself.
Guys, he's got an anarchy A in his avatar. He's not a fucking Republican
@@M-CH_ Ah yes, an anarcho-communist = lover of unjustified authority
@@reaganbartels9993 Unjustified?! Legitimism is all about justifications.
"It's sphere-o'clock" is my new favorite everything
I can buy into this series being summer. Everyone seems sweaty, there's heat lines, and the lighting has that vibe.
The tall man hypnotized people. The spheres are the most memorable part of the movie .
I've seen this movie several times and never caught that Sam Raimi joke. Thanks for giving me something else to dig about an already very dig-able flick!
I'd love to see a Robocop/Phantasm crossover.
"YOU MAKE A GOOD MOVE, CREEP"
I remember watching Phantasm marathons on the Sci-Fi channel in the 90s..... I've seen and love all of these....things that could possibly be described as a movie franchise.

I got the Blu Ray of this movie. Excellent director commentary. The gold sphere don't mess around.
"Liz is investigating her drapes"
I don't think you can say that on UA-cam...
Hey scaredy matt, its me, scaredy cat
I just really love Matt. His humor is my favorite and he has such enthusiasm!! Your channel is gonna explode because this is quality content man!
Aloha also means goodbye,
bye, I nope right out of that summer sunshine.
the sun is a deadly laser *pew pew*
stikk watching these. they make me feel good
Thanks for another Phantastic video!
I'm having a phantastic summer thanks to this series.
I remember watching this series and having no FUCKING clue what was going on so I'm very thankful you're making videos about them so I can finally understand what I saw
Thank you for introducing me to these movies! I'd never heard of them before!
"Tall Man is building a robocop. Sadly, this does not get explored."
FINE! I'll subscribe already! Jeez.
another scardy matt, another phantasm outing, life is good for the next 12 minutes.
You've totally sold me on this series.
The Tall Man knew that Sam Rami would make Spiderman 3. Cremation was the only solution.
Thanks for all you editing work on these videos. These old horror movies are WILD. ☺.
Something neat: Father Meyers is played by Kenneth Tigar. He has a Ph.D in German literature from Harvard. Remember that old guy in Avengers who defiantly tells Loki "there are always men like you"? Well that guy is used to dealing with tall aliens mucking up the place :)
Freddy vs Tall Man.
A dream fight.🤘🏻💀🤘🏻
So excited to see your breakdown of Phantasm III. I'm pretty sure as a kid that was the one I caught on Sci-Fi channel by chance and I recall it freaking me out quite a bit.
I think we should all take the time to taste the yummy mustard hiding in our fingers.
You know when you have a dream that's supet vivid, and you really feel it, and it kind of sticks with you the next day? Like you have a dream that your partner sleeps with someone else, and you're sort of irrationally angry at them the next morning, even though you KNOW nothing actually happened? Wonder when we’re going to see this “scaredy cat” everyone keeps talking about
But my child, the scaredy cat was within you all along
i am scaredy cat
he am scaredy matt
We are the scaredy cat, he is the scaredy matt, I am Dr Robotnik, goo goo g'joob.
The real Scaredy Cats was us all along

Good god! You have the best eyebrows EVER!!!!
Reggie looks like Michael Keaton in a lot of shots and I find this hilarious.
Thanks for making the work day a little brighter :)
that's at least 3 times I've seen a horror villain corroded from the inside with acid in an embalming hose
I watched Phantasm today and now I HAVE TO see Phantasm 2. Then, obviously, the rest of the franchise will follow. Productivity be damned.
Oh man, I almost wouldn't have liked this video, but then the pleading at the end made me do it after all :D
Damn, I'm getting some Vacation Dadcore-y vibes from this video
The Aliens of Phantasm
Great video, my summer will be amazing!
This video really makes me taste the mustard within myself
rewtching. I remember the pre bobby times. Ah to be young 😂
Great video. Listen to the song Left Hand Path by Entombed and you might recognize something about halfway through.
Turns out the mustard was the friends we made along the way?

Well now I have to binge all of them when am I gonna find the free time for that oh wait
sunscreen is a good idea

I'm super excited for the next one!

Spheres for Fears
i watch pbs eons, you got about 6 more weeks of baking before you aren't just the cutest lil' pink puff pastry
Phantasm vs. Robocop.
A-sploded 👍👍
Would you consider the first Riddick movie horror? I would cause it scared me but that's not a high bar.
The phantasm franchise is on amazon prime video
Can anyone explain why Phantasm 2 is not on Shudder? I just watched the first one because of this video series.
It's SPHERICAL
This one always felt like one of the weaker ones but I really appreciate your perspective on it
So Phantasm 2 is like Aliens
blessed
The balls are back in town.
4:43 ah, that actually got me, oof (no idea wtf that thing said tho)
ITS SPHERE O CLOCK ! ! !
Summer of Funtasm
Can we get a scary eyeball zone? Spookball zone? Eyeball zone just scary this time
Summer Funtasm
Cant wait till next week ^.^
I mean i will but still
which one has the black lady with the nunchucks?
@4:32 I was wondering why there was a small, circular image of the Tall Man at the bottom of the screen, then I realized why and said "OMG... I'm such a boob"
This franchise was doomed the second nobody decided to make Robocop v Phantasm: Dawn of Justice.
Does anyone else find the audio a little busy because of the beach music?
Great video anyway started to really look forward to new scaredy cats.
I forget, which home alone was it where Kevin booby traps the house with a grenade and a shotgun?
He shoots Marv in the face with Buzz's BB gun-does that count?
Please make a video on the body horror genre such as in Videodrome or Get Out
You look alot like Thought Slime smhw.
ouch
Please do the 1987 Horror Movie _"Eat the Rich"_ next! It got absolutly *No* political overtones so it's perfect for you ;)
Keep up the great work!
Tall man shenanigans. Tallman shenanigans. Tallmanshenanigans. Tallmananigans. Tallmananigansanigansanigans.
CAT SLIME!!!!
What the actual fuck. I don't remember them making the tall man into an alien in this movie.
your mind is gonna be blown when you find out he was an alien in the first movie too
Wait.... There's sun in Canada?
Phantasm 2? More like phantastic 2! That acting… Muah!
