The first movie is pretty much hanging with the boys there was a lot more of it but those scenes were deleted, the one where they get drunk and eat ice cream off Mike's pass-out-drunk body is a highlight
10:42 "I want new, creative schlock!" You say that now, but after you see Ravager... Personally, I think Oblivion is a great movie in the sense that showing it to someone as their first introduction to the Phantasm series and watching their reaction as they hopelessly try to make sense of this total nonsense is hilarious. Plus as a prank you can then claim that if they go back and watch all the previous films, it'll all make way more sense.
I've been quarantined since March with my alcoholic mother who borderlines on being abusive, definitely verbally denigrating, and your videos on this channel have really been a blessing. Please make more content, never think your work here is any less valuable than whats done on Thought Slime.
Reggie putting on the ice cream man uniform is *designed* to make you pump your fist. It's him saying, "I'm done fucking around," and returning to his original character. I'm not a fan of capeshit, but this is akin to Captain America returning to his original suit half way through "Winter Soldier".
Oh man, I can't even the tell you the number of times I learned telekinesis as an act of revenge. This film is real and relatable, 11/10, perfect movie
"Hey wow, what a shiny set of orbs you got there, toots!" Interjects Reggie's substitute for a mind. "The better to gorgle up your brain goo, my dear." Replied Jessica 7of9 Femmebot, sheepishly. "Got any other surprises in there for my face?" Retorts Reggie, whom few might be aware is d2f anytime, anywhere, spheres be damned. Even if it's the Tallman in "hot babe" form, looking for carnal cemetery fun. I forget, did Reggie get hoodwinked (like Jodie (sp?)) in the first movie with *that* routine from the Tallman? You know, that one switcheroo which he _always_ uses, in every summertime blockbuster Phantasm movie.
I can only hope next week's episode will include a rundown comparing the relative merits of the Phantasm series as compared to the Wishmaster series, alongside Matt's spec script for Tall Man vs. Wishmaster.
@@bingbabooie3697 you know how stars don't exist in TES and they're just holes in the sky (god I love video game lore)? Going through the gateways just drops you out of one of those holes
I'm in southeast Michigan and god DAMN is it too hot out. 85 to 95 and disgustingly humid everyday. I love summertime for watching Phantasm, of course, but I can't take this heat.
it's REAL hot in Toronto y'all i feel like i too, am filled with boiling mustard, a thought i just had, that made me no longer want the hot dog i am cooking
I've been watching your stuff a while now, both thoughtslime and here, and nothing has made me laugh as hard as "you've got to squeeze the lemons" idk why xD
As a huge new fan of the Phantasm Series, I just watched Phantasm IV, and I absolutely love how nuts it is. The First film is a classic, and 2 and 3 are awesome sequels. This one is so out there that I can't help but love it.
So... they’re in the desert, THAT desert, they’ve got a big styrofoam rock, and yet they *don’t* arrange to have one of the characters in a life-or-death struggle with a Gorn (or an acceptably off-copyright lizard dude we’d know was meant to be a Gorn)? Well, nuts to this movie. I’m going to watch Reptilicus again.
And Yet... I am 100% convinced that you would be the most fun person, with whom to watch these movies. :) Thank you again for this fantastic series review, and just a fantastic channel in general.
Some friends and I have been doing group-watches of the Phantasm series (over the 'net, social distance yo) and one of them directed me to this series. Over the last week I have now binge-watched basically the entire channel. Help.
It's gonna be sad when Summer of Phantasm is over not just because summer isn't complete without Phantasm but also because there can never be another summer again until Phantasm movies start being made again, as I'm sure you all know.
I had to convert to Fahrenheit... it's like 83 degrees... it is annoying to be that warm in your own home but also like... *drum corps memories of sites with no air conditioning and days of 100+ degrees every day, like 80s at night* I have stood still in heat and had so much sweat pouring down me it literally felt like I was peeing down my leg.... that is when you know the Real Sweaty
Quick note without seeing the video first. I was disappointed when I finally discovered that this had come into existence without utilizing a script by Roger Avary. Not saying that he's a fantastic filmmaker, but given his profile, love for the material, and capacity for understanding the impact of imagery along a liminal space as seen in Silent Hill, it would have been fascinating and probably opened up the franchise to a lot more viewers.
Have I missed it, or has no one praised thobt slobt for the new adverbial descriptor "hornfully?" Because we should be praising thime slime for trying to popularize "hornfully." Its good.
Dear Matt, when you move onto V Ravanger please remember it was made as a labor of love. It was filmed with a shoestring budget, filmed over many years during everyones free time. Almost a indie/fan film in that regard. Judge it on its intentions rather than presentation. It was made strictly as a loveletter to fans.
In another parallel to Dune, just as Duncan Idaho becomes the true protagonist of the series over several books, so too does Reggie become the main character of the entire series
I like the intro music, and the channel! I can't remember if I saw a Scaredy Cats vids first or one of your Thought Slime vids. But then I saw your cameo on BlackGoat 666 was like "who is this person??" and now I'm subbed to both of your channels.
Now i get how a Canadian would feel when an Australian complains about it being cold. 28 degrees is a nice day here. 40+ degrees is when it gets terrible.
Without spoiling, Ravager is a mess (like always) with some good stuff inside it (like always) and some stuff that probably isn't great but sure as hell makes me happy (like always). So it's, you know, a Phantasm.
[Me, paused as you're saying I won't guess what happens under the buzzing shirt] WELL MATT, MAYBE I WOULD HAVE MORE TROUBLE GUESSING THIS, IF YOU HADN'T HAVE PUT IT IN THE DANG THUMBNAIL MATT. MAYBE THEN WE COULD HAVE A BIG OLE SURPRISE ABOUT WHAT WAS UNDER THE BUZZING SHIRT (cus I probably would've guessed orbs in her womb because that seems suitably on the nose BUT NOT THIS) BUT WE CAN'T HAVE THAT BECAUSE OF THE THUMBNAIL, MATT Also nice video and stuff, enjoying it.
The movie has spheres, the sun is a sphere, the sun is associated with summer flawless logic
The fact Tall Man is named "Morningside" also plays into it. He's the hot side of morning.
Matheus Arruda also: beach balls are spheres.
@@RememberTheDead tall man is also just plain hot
Oh My Gawd... Eyeballs are spherical!!! The Eyeball Zone is the Sphere Zone!!! Lord Oculon is Tall Man!!!
It's a summer movie cause it's a Phantasummer movie.
"learned telekinesis as an act of revenge" should be a plot beat in more things tbh. "i gave myself superpowers through sheer spite" *chef's kiss*
Matilda...
I'm very annoyed that something as stupid as "boob-spheres" genuinely made me grab my chest in horror
thank fuck i wasn't the only one
I feel less embarrassed with my own reaction now.
Deserts are hot! See, it IS a Summer movie!
Its pretty much a beach
there;s sand
If Die Hard is a christmas movie I can accept phantasm being a summer series

it's 40 in Sydney, Canadians are lightweights

"A fight with a demon cop" and "too boring to talk about" are rarely used to describe the same thing.
Pity. I loved the series. Tall Dude was my favorite interdimensional baddie. RIP Angus.
what a great summer franchise
The number 4 follows around the concept of Oblivion consistently
is Phantasm IV: Oblivion related to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
both use the same engine
the tall man is actually from the deadlands
The leveling system in Elder Scrolls IV was meant to evoke on The same sense of dread and helplessness as Phantasm IV
@@bingbabooie3697 you know how stars don't exist in TES and they're just holes in the sky (god I love video game lore)? Going through the gateways just drops you out of one of those holes
STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL BALL!
The "thanks for watching this Video on The elder scrolls 4: Oblivion" at the end got me so much harder than it should have XD
Allegedly, in the script for Oblivion, Tim was torn apart and devoured by dwarves.
These Phantasm reviews have been pure gold, Matt.

on a hot summer day there's nothing like cracking open a cold one with the cloaked zombie dwarfs
The more phantasm videos Matt makes the less I know what the fuck phantasm is about. Big summer vibes tho 😎😎😎
Between the third, fourth, and fifth movies, there might be enough interesting ideas for a proper sequel to the first two.

Well originally they intended to shoot a scene at the beginning of this film where he would be ravaged by dwarves but couldn't because of budget
As much as I love your videos, I feel obligated to tell you that the bank simply isn't going to fund your new theme park, "Phantasm in July".

Matt, IDK id ppl thank you for this enough, but thanks for letting me know when an animal is gonna die in the movie!
Phantasm 5 was so bad that I had an existential crisis followed by multiple meltdowns I cannot wait to see what you have to say about it!
Scaredy cats, the one channel that can make me pause my Discworld audiobook binge. I'm on book 19.
I want to petition Kenneth Anger to write and direct a Phantasm movie. I think that would be genuinely fantastic.
Has anyone ever told you that you look like a cuter version of the UA-camr Thought Slime?
Dear Matt, when you move onto V Ravanger please remember it was made as a labor of love. It was filmed with a shoestring budget, filmed over many years during everyones free time. Almost a indie/fan film in that regard. Judge it on its intentions rather than presentation. It was made strictly as a loveletter to fans.
What do you mean that _Oblivion_ brought nothing new, it gave the back-story; it was the _Hellraiser 4: Bloodlines_ of _Phantasm._
I feel like you meant that as a good thing, the only problem is that you compared it to Hellraiser 4.
What’s the deal with Fours?
Turtles are the flip flips, tortoise are the clomp clomp
10:43 “I want new, creative schlock!” Ditto!
Having the actors fuck around in the desert for most of the movie.. also known as the Neil Breen approach to filmmaking
Whenever Matt talks about the temperature I have no idea what he's talking about cause I have no frame of reference for celsius
The action hero reminds me of Bill Bailey, a comedian who once described himself as a bald man with long hair. And it works so well it's hilarious.
