  • Betterhelp turns out to be... even worse than what I thought
    7 DAYS LEFT! represent.com/pewdiepie
I wanna give credit to: Kiwifarms and Memology101 for breaking this story.
I also want to note that as some people may use betterhelp and it has helped them, do what you think is best for you. I am in no way criticizing therapy here.
After receiving many comments about Better Health ads appearing on this video: since I cant select ads I decided to just remove all ads on it.

10:59 please note that this is the same video throughout and NOT Ethans video.
I added these clips to show how youtubers promo betterhelp, I feel like it was important for the story. It makes me uncomfortable to know that they were payed per person signing up.
But also be aware that they probably didnt know what they were promoting as well.

I'm the guy at 10:13. I was one of the FIRST UA-camrs to promote Better Help last year, and I actually used it myself to make sure it was legit. With this new news and looking at the fine print, I'll have to truly rethink this sponsorship seriously. My channel is literally a MENTAL HEALTH channel, so I think it's an appropriate sponsor, up until now. The conversion sign-up money was obviously attractive since my videos are demonizited because I talk about suicide. Definitely have to think about this. Thanks Felix for bringing this to our attention.

To be fair, these informations are not linked back to your personal information. BetterHelp can be an incredible oppotunity to gather data for research which helps improve interventions and more precise diagnosis and uncovering comorbidities.
As the data is anonymized it is just the same as participating in experiments / filling out questionnaires and signing a consent form. Which you do by signing up to the website and agree to the terms & conditions.
The site should include an option to choose if you want your data to be shared anonymously to help research.
Obviously they don't collect the data to give you targeted ads because of your symptoms of PTSD, burnout or whatever.

Even in real life, I had some serious childhood issues I needed to confront that were holding me back as a husband and father and I had to visit 4 therapists before I found one who didnt just tell me what I wanted to hear and helped me get the courage to change my perspective and take responsibility for the things that I wanted to blame on others and helped me resolve the issues that weren't in my control. My heart goes out to the people who continue to see the glorified enablers masquerading as therapists twice a week for years paying tens of thousands of dollars to be told how they are simultaneously the hero and victim of their own story. I saw my therapist twice a month for 4 months, she gave me homework and excersizes that I had to complete before the next session or she wouldnt see me and it changed my life forever.

It's remarkable to witness the extensive reach of Google/UA-cam in the digital realm. Teladoc Health, the parent company of BetterHelp, seems to have a significant advertising presence on these platforms, yet the exact extent of their financial relationship remains a mystery. This partnership extends beyond mere advertising revenue; Teladoc actively collaborates with Google, leveraging data obtained through Google's Fit App & Teladoc openly acknowledges its use of Google Analytics for user insights.
Despite Teladoc and BetterHelp's admission to selling customer data, their apps continue to be readily available on Google Play. This situation raises significant ethical concerns, particularly given Google's considerable wealth and influence. It serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences when corporate interests supersede user privacy and transparency.

This is an *actual* review left by a client on their website and it was so ridiculous I didn't know whether I should laugh or be furious.
"I had my first session with BetterHelp while the counselor was grocery shopping. I heard quite a bit of background noise at first but thought it was a bad connection. It was not until she was at the cashier that I heard the beeps as each item was rung in. When the cashier asked for coupons, the call basically ended. After that, I asked for another counselor since I already paid. We scheduled an appointment for a phone session that he never bothered to call into or reply to my messages. I am trying to get a refund to no avail."
Imagine calling your "online therapist" and being ready to pour your soul out and tell them everything you're going through, expecting to feel better at the end of the call, just to hear your "therapist" *grocery shopping* and hanging up on you when the cashier asks if they want any coupons.

From a person who struggles with anxiety and depression and who actually pays to see real therapists face to face, I respect you all the more Felix for this video. It should have been common sense to see through this scam, but you're one of the few who did and who had enough integrity to not take part in it. So as they say, "common sense ain't so common." Thank you so much for not shying away from expressing your opinions to so many people, even if it means going against the grain and exposing yourself to the vitriol of some. I truly think you are inspiring a lot of young people to cling to their dignity ever stronger in the face of hardship - and you can be sure I'll remember you through this lens rather than that of some og gaming youtuber.

Unfortunately, therapy in general isn't all that great of a service. What they don't tell you is a significant percentage don't see any result, and there is a surprising amount of people who get worse. I am in that category. Had a dozen different therapists. The experiences were so harmful and traumatic that it almost resulted in me ending my life. They continue to practice like nothing happened, without a care in the world.

This was a great video, Felix. Some days, I am plain shocked at how grounded you really are. This is a good message, and matches my thoughts on all this Better Health stuff PERFECTLY. People see you as the joker, the crazy 'youtuber guy', and that's how I saw you, years back - but you have a real maturity, where I actually watch your news videos and while you often come from a place of humor, parody, satire, etc...what you say is often CORRECT. I like that you aren't just attacking people on this, but are making people aware of the issues here. Respect.
