My Senegal is now 28 years old. He was still on formula when I adopted him. He has been a sweet little pet. He loves his Mama but does not tolerate other people.

I lived with someone who had a Senegal parrot, little bird, big personality. I was watching TV and it flew over and walked up my chest and insisted that I was going to learn how to unfurl pin feathers on it's head, lol. It started hanging out with me when I'd cook and we sort of became friends. They are amazing creatures (parrots) and need a lot of socialization (it takes a flock to make a bird happy). I have an Indian ringneck now, I'm retired and we are together almost always.

Parrots prices seem to vary on location. Parrots are more expensive in the Chicago area. I got my Senny less than a year ago, hand raised for $2,200. She's an absolute pain in the butt and I love her so much. She matches what I was looking for. Personality, strong bond and relatively quiet. She doesn't like other birds so having only one is good. She's also not a food shaker which is so fantastic!

Here is what it's like for my family, having owned a Senegal parrot for 25 years.
Our Senegal parrot, Kiwi (all day, every day):
"KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!! KIWI!!"

I absolutely adore my sennie. I've had many different birds but hands down the easiest bird and very much a one person bird when bonded to you ❤❤

Price range for birds is sliding scale based on what state people live in and supply/demand of breeders in the area. In California price has gone up much for most birds here, compared to few years ago.

I have a senegal he came from a dirty small cage along with another female senegal. I chose the male as female birds have alot of issues related to being eggbound or what not. He bit me alot before and now not ever. He ges very scared though no matter what around his head. It is trauma, first time parrot owner and cook him fresh food freeze and thaw and he eats and as we speak hes on top of the laptop lid hanging out. Loves doing circle flips on his rope. Hes 4 and got him when he was 1 :)

That is a heartening story. Got mine when he was 3, he used to live with 5 others in an outdoor cage, but the owner was getting sick and couldnt care for them.
Had him for a year now, and it has been very rough. He bites lots, i have had so many bloody gushes so far, because it was absolutely neccessary to take him out of his cage.
I cant remember hiw many timws he made me cry out of guilt and frustration.
He does call for me in the mirning and he calls his name to get me to come in the room.
Hope he will be a nicer bird to me in the future.

@@RyanMillit unfortunately itll take some time but one thing that I did to have him not bite is to put my finger near him and not flinch and actually push it towards him because at the beggining he was to my reaction. Try that and also with a glove if you have.

At 4:12 in your video, this is what happens whenever we scratch our Senegal parrot, except he bites so hard our fingers bleed. He’s made 3 fingers bleed already 👎🏻

What kind of tree can he play in. I have an artificial with leaves on it that I could pull them off if that would be bad also I was cleaning the fridge ice box and playing with him he likes playing with ice next thing I know he's flying in my hair on my back BITTING and scratched me all up. This is not the first time he bites my index out of the blue he bit me HARD painful and I have to go to the hospital and have antibiotics because they can carry something normally. So today I am planning on getting rid of him I don't know where to sell him they would be good people's advice. 23 YRS OLD and ready to mate. HELP

I would not recommend this particular bird as a parrot to live in an apartment, due to there loud voices, but they truly are amazing pets

Mine is really quiet, mornings and evening can be "loud" It helps to have schedule when this bird goes to sleep and when wakesup. And i lived in a apartment house all my adult live with my birds never got a complains.

@@vsarangan07 Mine was loud couple first weeks after separated from hes siblings. Lot of affection and activity did help with that. Thats the point when you help him to feel like home. Or the bird will most likely turn to screamer if neclected, when he needs company.

I would NOT recommend Poicephalus parrots, including senegals, for children! Some can bite HARD and hold on.
