  • Trinity Dairy's official 100th video. People have been asking for a video with an equipment tour. We go over our machinery museum with the Case 660 combine, the Farmalls, the International tractors, the Case tractors, choppers, silo blowers, new idea corn picker, round balers, and much more. It might not be shiny, but it all works! We also answer viewers most frequently asked questions about the farm. Thank you to our viewers for helping our channel grow!

Excellent video - glad you are able to keep the old iron running and making a go of things. I especially like seeing the kids helping with chores and also I understand that your wife is definitely a big part of your dairy's success. God bless you and have a wonderful Christmas.

Buying new farm equipment can be very costly and get you in debt trouble quickly, old iron that does the job is a blessing. So hang on to the old tractors :)

I've recently followed a variety of You Tube diaries. Yours is pretty much a spitting image to what my family does in North central Wisconsin. (Except we have no manure lagoon so in the winter we spread it every day) but feeding that silage still get a kick that we do that almost exactly the same way. One difference is we do milk our 45 cows with 4 surge buckets and carry milk in pails and use a strainer. That works ok for us. We talked about putting a pipeline in but the stall part of the barn is only 7ft. high. According to the fieldman, by the time the pipe gets to the milk house it would be like 5ft off the floor. As long as the creamery is still ok with the way we do it we will continue. I am kind of familiar with your area in that I went to college in River Falls WI. My youngest brother lives in Frederic, just straight across the border a stone's throw from you. It seems we have much in common, perhaps most small dairy farmers do. In honor of your 100th video I subscribed too. (I thought I did already and saw I didn't.... My bad) Best wishes on the next 100. Happy Holidays.

If people don't walk in your shoes and see through your eyes how can they be right and you be wrong? There's always another way to do something but you make a call as you see it.
Quick question on high moisture corn. What is it and why don't you do it anymore? See a few Dairy Farmers on UA-cam using it.
Really enjoy watching you all and have a safe Merry Christmas 🎄

    • @trinitydairy
      @trinitydairy  3 роки тому +2

High moisture corn , is shelled or cob corn, harvested at a higher moisture, we did it with cob corn, which is also called snaplage or earlage, I tried to harvest it at around 50 percent moisture. We quit doing it because if the weather gets to warm, it's hard to keep it from molding, and if I don't have enough for a full year, and have to switch feed the cows drop in milk until they adjust. It does make nice feed, and the cows like it but it didn't work as well for us. Thanks for watching!

have to have as farmers, all the machinery that's involved, and that your family seems like the "traditional all-American family". The content has been interesting to me, like the manure pipe saga, I loved Jordan and Justin's mini equipment tour, and the Carlton County Fair - Treasured Memories video was fantastic. Having dairy does restrict your time. Morning and evening 7 days a week for milking along with keeping up with the requirements for milk quality. I love fresh milk. It is an acquired taste. Nothing like that stuff in the grocery stores. If it came down to the bulk trucks stopping picking up the milk I wonder if it is worth it to separate the cream and sell that? Maybe even make butter? It is a niche market for sure. Nothing like fresh cream and butter for cooking/baking . The last tractor my dad bought was a 1066 Turbo. He loved it. Upgrade from a 4020. You have different conditions to farm in than we did in Lac qui Parle county. Farm life in Minnesota is tough. But, it is a great way to grow up. Builds "character". Haaa But, seriously it is a healthy way to live.

at 25:02..............you touched on a problem many areas that are not heavily into dairying are experiencing.
Having farmed in the #1 dairy county in Minnesota ( Stearns) we have lost a lot of small dairy farms .
However, whether one is opposed to larger dairy farms or not, having them in your area keeps milk trucks in your area, feed trucks, and veterinarians.

My Grandfather hauled milk from the can days until his death in 2001. At one point he ran 6 trucks picking up 401 grade C dairies and 179 grade A dairies around 99 the government cut out grade C milk. Most quit some decided to go grade and one of those was 78 miles out of route My papaw kept on hauling for the same rate 50 cents a hundred pounds of milk. He said the dairy farmers always got a raw deal, the man had to borrow money to keep his job. So he wouldn't rasie the haul bill because it was the right thing to do.
When DFA took over they made the haulers rasie the rate. So my Papaw would just send them a rebate check every month.
    Sorry for the long comment.

A nice pole shed would be nice. Little bedding pack like you said for the cows when weather isn’t so great and if big enough maybe sneak in some equipment in there also lol. A farmer wish list is always growing but you are correct you need to think about the future and if the infrastructure will remain there to keep the dairy going. I do enjoy the videos I too had cows till 2016 but still farm a little and mess with a few beef. Just the days of the small family farms seem to be going away.

Haha. I have an old wood stove in my shop, but the junk keeps crowding it and I end up working outside again.

What a great video. I love seeing other farms. We bought our farm that hadn't seen cows since the late 70's. It took a lot of work to bring it back enough to just milk and we're far from where we need to be. I love your channel. I've certainly got some catching up to do on your videos. Keep up the good honest work. You should be proud.

You seem like genuine folks and that’s refreshing. Your struggle is real, many small producers in my area were squeezed out due to increased hauling fees even though there are somewhere around 15k head milked in a 4 country radius. We were fortunate over the generations that my grandfathers starting with my 4th great all had the intestinal fortitude to spend and expand even when it seemed like a bad idea. Today we milk right around 2600, the next step is 3000 and who knows how many after that. My grandpa always told me a man can make a good living and a happy life as a dairy farmer he just can’t be afraid to look over the edge of the cliff. Embrace modernization but don’t go in so deep there’s no turning back.

I agree there. We're always looking at improvements, and we're less than 10 years away from paying the farm off, so that's our goal now. After that? Oh I've definitely got some ideas.

@@trinitydairy that’s a smart plan and an incredibly practical goal. It’s all about weathering the storm and I think the next 4 years will be incredibly traumatic. Who knows, we all might be done farming lol. Keep up your wholesome down to earth content and know that we’re mostly all in this together.

wow, yea struggle and squeezed out you're too small for the board to yea 50 cows we had with the new barn 1800 head now we milk did change for us hurts when milk flood our market for the states we not able to fill out our own quotes we sign for would like to have that milk from the states stop or allow Canadian milk to flood our markets to what free trade means no stopping what we can ship? across the borders
Americans need to squeeze out the larger companies flood the market in the states

I wonder if you could the head off of the combine engine and take a little oil or lubricant put it around the piston walls and tap around each piston with a peice of a cut 2x4 if that makes sense. Merry Chirstmas and God bless

I have had luck in the past, pulling the spark plugs and filling the cylinders with diesel fuel, and let it soak, depends on how bad it is, but pulling the head and tapping the pistons is a good idea also. Thanks for watching!
