John Deere 6600 Combining Oats/Raking Straw With Draft Horses/Square Baling with JD 336 Square Baler

- Once every couple of years, the dusty old John Deere 6600 Combine gets awoken. This year, Alan's parents and Alan have oats to combine. Alan's Dad starts the process by swathing the oats with a New Holland Swather. After a couple of days of drying, it's time to start combining. It was a race against the rain that suddenly appeared on the radar. Alan was running the combine, and soon there was a hopper full. Leonard then grabs the International 706 and Minnesota Gravity Box to unload the oats. After that, Alan takes off combining again, and Leonard pulls up to the Owatonna Grain Elevator and begins to unload the oats into the grain bin. Just as Alan was finishing up, the raindrops started to fall. He finished just in time and pulled the combine into the shed as the rain really let loose. After a few days, the straw was nice and dry. The Draft Horses get to work pulling the rake. Then, it's time to start square baling. The Allis Chalmers 200 is pulling Leonard's new to him John Deere 336 Square Baler. It didn't take long to fill the kicker wagon. The next load of straw showed off Alan's brother, Paul, and his ability to make catching a square bale really easy. Lastly, the straw gets put up in the hay mow. It was a busy few days, but the oats and straw all got put up dry and will be appreciated this winter!

Love your family, I loved running combine, always gave the neighbors kids a ride
The sound of a JD 336 baler takes me back to the 1990s...
Hi I'm Farmer Canada, Ontario really seeing horses raking nice job and I always love watching yr videos gob bless you guys ox
Wow great video your got some real special kids, love seeing a family that works together. That meal looks delicious ,made me hungry for sure. God bless you
It makes me laugh watching Paul catch those bales, just as if they were made of cotton candy 😂😂
You must have the only 336 on the planet with both safety cages still intact 😁 love the robotic bale diverted too!
I just automatically hit the thumbs up 👍 button ❤❤😊
Before the video even started !!❤️
It's WELL DESERVED ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😁👍
The horses make the video just a little more better 😁.God Bless
All of years we baled hay, I never seen anyone catch the bales! Good to see your family participating in the chores as well. Take care and God Bless!
First year we got a thrower we only had one flatrack converted to thrower racks, so we ended up throwing the bales onto the flatracks and someone had to build the load. My dad got hit with a bale and knocked down, dislocated his hip and years later ended up getting it replaced. It always hurt him after he got hit. It was a Massey #9 baler with a #22 thrower pulled by a Massey Super 90. It really fired them back.
@@gentlegiants1974 Wow! Sorry to hear about that.
What a great video! A little bit of everything. We really enjoyed watching the family working together and the horses were a bonus!
I used to run a 6600 back in the day!! Good machines in there time.
So great to see each part of the harvest. So many memories were awakened. Thank-you!
Great video.. thank you for sharing. It's so nice to see a tight family all working together. Getting the job done. All great values.. those Bales didn't stand a chance with Paul on the wagon! Lol... thats showing them Paul....😂
Love hearing those young voices!!❤❤❤
True family farming at its best. God bless
Never thought we would ever wish for square bales again when we started round baling, but sure do miss a mow full of squares in the middle of a snowy wet winter. Hopefully the kids/and help don’t find an easier paying job to soon.
AND the very patient video camera girl needs to get a nice Christmas bonus…great work 👍.
I have the exact same new idea hay rake/Tedder. I always enjoy watching your guys videos.
Great job raking the oats straw with horses
Great bale kicker in the mow. Go professional!!
Nice old school farming video very cool!!!
Always something different ..excellent video as always..Love seeing the old equipment still doing there job they were ment to do ..
Great Video! Thanks for share it! 👍👍👍👍... Greetings from Brazil!🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Sure there’s videos showing farmers using the new monstrous machinery,, but watching this video reminds us there is farming still😊
Thanx for responce,,, I’m one of those old time farmers with old school equipment, love everyday that I use them,, have a great day
This year is bad for anything to get dry! Nice Video! That is what thrashing is all about, you get a good meal from whoever you're thrashing for!
I think it's very cool to watch work horses working.😊
Young lad wanted to help by getting the bales to the big guy. Will make a good farmer soon
So cool to see the horses out there working, I bet they love it too. Wow, that bale thrower is amazing!
I always liked the look, and the weight of oat straw. Was never fond of an oat shaft sliver getting jammed under a fingernail. I love seeing you guys run the equipment we used to run on our dairy!
No God bless you guys and ladies, the American farmer unsung hero's working for this Great Nation of Ours🌽 We could not live with out you..............
The dude is pure entertainment on that hay wagon.
There is a picture of my Uncle Lloydy from 1930s-40s looking like a beefcake from working on the farms in Dover,
Eyota, St Charles area.
Nice to get some fresh straw in the barn
Another nice video. Paul's the man, catching those bales and tossing them around with one arm. Good job by Alan's mom for some of the videoing and as always, Jen did some great videoing too. I see a few grasshopers in the oats, is that how you add some extra protein in for the horses 😁. Always nice to see the kids helping out. God Bless.
Great family time video
Just found your channel. Love your operation and family involvement! Really impressive.
We used to do the same thing when we got the oats in. Had a celebration meal. Looked really food. We used to go out for fish when we got first crop hay done and after picking corn.
Great video, especially the machinery and the horses were a treat. We had a team when I was a boy and they would pull the hay wagon as we walked and picked up the bales .
Great vidio it brought back a lot of memories. Thanks and have a good harvest
Great Video 🏆🏆🏆🏆
Another great video an harvest. 😊
Great video. I love the way your family works together. I also love the equipment you use. Thanks for doing what you do! God bless.
Brings back memories working for my uncle on his farm. We had a 6600 and 6601 pull behind.
Have to admit I have never seen any piece of equipment like these. Glad you were able to get it done before the rain.
we have had a few pickup headers over the years but those Melroe pickups are the best for picking up swaths
i worked for a dairy farm here in Vermont that had horses, lots of fun
The guy on the wagon. Looks strong he reminds me of a Bulgarian weight lifter
Love the old kicker baler brings back lots of memories.
A lot of good camera work to catch all the action! This brought back a lot of memories. Dad used to have about 10 acres of oats for hog feed ingredient and the straw for the hogs and in the dairy/calf barn. We had a lot of very similar if a little smaller/older equipment. I could almost smell that fresh threshed oats dust!! Don't miss the itch of it for sure. Stacked small squares on the rack behind the baler too. After the field was baled off, then it was manure pile cleanup week! Come home from school the last week of august and drive the spreader tractor a couple of hours every day. One big pile down the hill from the diary barn, smaller pile behind the hog barn, and then the cattle shed.
Great job swathing and combining your oats Alan
Supper looked awesome!! 😋
Now that is kool!
Hi guys, glad to see you are getting some combining done. We use an auger to put our grain in the bin but that elevator goes really smooth. If it’s starting to rain there , it is because I cut hay here 😅 We use to leave our straw out and hope it gets a few rains, that way the straw gets softer. It was better to shake out under cows. Great video, take care ❤🇨🇦👍
I like for it to get rained on too, but it was down for 6 days and only got a shower on it so I figured it was time to bale it.
Great job baling the oats straw
What a great video I really enjoyed watching specially when he was catching the bales 😂😂
Love seeing the older Equipment still used. No computer and you can work on them with just a few tools. No special one off wrenches that cost more than the machine.
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊
Awesome video, a bit of everything so great to watch. Where to heck were those bale kickers back in the early 50's???
Two young lads with pitch forks throwing them up on the truck or wagons. I could tell you lots of stories about that.
That is if I can remember back that far LOL.
You have a good hay crew there. Hard to find now days. The John Deere baler makes a good bale. Had a 336 for 25 years. Now run a 428. God bless.
Great video Alan
Very nice enjoyed your video. Have a great day.
Hahaha Paul’s a beast 😅
He was close to just tipping them into place.
Lol nice videos always good entertainment thanks
Another great video
Oats is a great crop for cattle
They can eat the grain and the straw is also excellent. Beats a snow bank.
Hope the yield was good so the horses can eat well this winter. Great vlog everyone.
at 1:35 ....Spraying oats field under seeded with alfalfa.............
Yes, it can be done but you have to recalibrate your sprayer for using less psi from your pump so the spray isn't driven all the way down to the small alfalfa plants under neath.
In the 1980's I sprayed for 5 farmers besides my own and occasionally sprayed oats fields under seeded with alfalfa.
Cool Do you swath because of saw flies? That is the coolest baler thrower I have ever seen. Looks like they are being drop
kicked. Your brother catching them is awesome.
The swathing is to let the weeds dry down, so the seeds don't start heating in the bin.
Very nice job and God bless y'all a lot more
We had a brand new Ford 4000 selectospeed and a new IH27 baler so miss it ! Not so much at the time though
What a equipment line up, NH, JD, IH, AC, and the HORSES!
Something for everyone!
Love this video!
Awesome.
That farmall on the wagon and elevator needs a looking at with that knock. I wouldn't be working her too hard sounding like that. Maybe just an exhaust leak but sounds worse. Nice to see I'm not the only one fighting weather this year! Good luck folks.
It sounds like an engine knock, but it in the drivetrain. Been going for years.
8:08-9:08 was riveting content.
I'm sensing some sarcasm there. I missed editing that part down.
Good job guys
Great video
Ah farming life... maybe next year
We got 3.5's of rain this afternoon. Everything is a bit water logged.
Poor old 6600 could use a bath, turn those kids loose on it. Where's Kevin? All that nice green equipment give him a rash? Just kiddin'..
Best regards from Indiana.
If you parked the wagon closer to the barn Paul could just toss the bales into the loft.
Man that’s a great little old new Hollander . Love it
Great video, nice camera angles. That 6600 is in great shape....how old/year made. Dad's machine was really kool, old but doing the job...what year on it? never seen anything like it. Supper looked delicious, grandpa told me that they always had a nice meal at end of harvesting day. In Italy, smaller farmer then you, milked by hand 10 cows, 12 sheeps and 6 goats. Then migrated to the US.
They started making them in 1969. I'm not sure how long they made them, or what year this one is.
Loved it. Brings back memories. At home my dad swathed with a 18 foot versatile swather pulled by a 830 case. We combined with a 95 john deere. My dads cousin and neighbor had a 7700. It was the early nineties but we were behind on the times. I planted some oats underseeded with sweetclover but had to cut it for green feed. It really didn't come up nice with how dry it was. Did your dad get a good catch on the alfalfa?
It looked good early but now you can't see it.
Ahhh, this brings back lots of memories for me.
I just found your channel,,, it's Great!
Question...
What was that machine that looked like a Zero turn mower mixed with a combine?
Never in my life have I seen anything like that?
Looks very efficient.
A NewHolland Swather
Combining oats will make the horses very happy. Is much oats lost by swathing? I see a few farmers now that harvest small grains this way.
If the grain gets over ripe, then swathing with knock some grain off, otherwise it doesn't lose much.
In our area of Ohio we direct cut small grain. Looks like a good way to deal with green undergrowth...just have to pray for a few dry days to get the grain out of the windrow. Some years ago they were experimenting with swathing wheat in southern OH to speed planting of double-crop soybeans.
In that area it tends to not get dry enough standing to be able to straight cut if you had aerated bins probably be fine but a few people around the area have tried straight cutting and they usually have trouble with it heating and molding
some really nice equipment there esp the one that kicks the bales off the elevater love to see older stuff being used what is the straw used for?
Most is for sale.
Some say the John Deere baler lasts a longer life
Hey hey hey its hay 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅.
Haven't seen any new videos lately. Pray that all are OK and everyone is well.
Just busy getting ready for the county fair.
Good luck at the Fair! Thanks!@@woodsgremlin9995
Are the oats like, oatmeal to market as a grain commodity or is that a horse feed as in "strap on the old feedbag"? Or maybe it's the same product with different names based on who/what is eating it. Those bales look nice and tight
This is for the animals.
I assume those oats are for personal use only. I say that because here that would be considered a dirty field and it would really kill the price you get paid for your oats at the mill.
Yeah, this is just for my dad.
We had the fan speed turned down because we knew it was going to be light. I screen it before I feed it. I thought it yielded very well for as dry as it was.
That's my old on for the Cedars she tell you you swat flies you swath grain
Running older equipment has its benefits over newer right?
God bless the farmer , for the way he or she wants to farm
Are those grass hoppers in the oats?
Yeah
Is that a New Holland swather?
Don't see many of them
And I see there are grasshoppers in the oats
Yeah,it's a New Holland, yep always a few grasshoppers in the oats.
@@trinitydairy very well put together video, thanks
What is the advantage of swathing over direct cut?
If the grain has a lot of weeds in it, they need to dry in the windrow for a few days. Otherwise, they will cause the grain to spoil in the bin.
How many bushels does your combine hold?
I think it holds 150
Does the 706 have an exhaust leak ? Do you have catydids at your farm ?
No it's a noise in the transmission, I think a chipped gear. I don't think we have katydids here.
👀🙄🐾👍Great video A&J and Family what's the difference between Swedish meat balls and ordinary meatballs? Is Alan ok after driving a Deere header?
I honestly have no idea what the difference is, lol!
Because it was made by a little Swede. Actually it is meatballs made in a cream gravy.
@@woodsgremlin9995 Norwegian meatballs don't have the cream gravy,
